Dude. Seriously, if you have nothing better to do than to critique people's posts on an online forum, you need to get out more. I suggest www.citysearch.com or something to find things to do. Just a suggestion.
Vjay has a good point, you'll have a better chance of getting a response simply by taking the time to write a meaningful topic title.
A good example would be, oh I don't know "How do I tell if my wizard is still CID unlocked?"
You this way if I know how to answer your question then I would know that I can provide the answer from the forum index.
On the other hand I really don't know the answer to "I have a stupid question" and just might figure that the poster must not really want an answer since they could not be considerate enough as to provide a meaningful subject.
BTW, I do know how to find-out if a device is CID unlocked (and it is quite simple)..
sk7575: as a moderator, I'm expected to expound the philosophy and morality of the forum as well as I can, and to keep the forum in check as far as possible.
I use the “View Posts Since Last Visit” button to review all posts, very often, through the day. I try to answer every post I feel competent to impart useful information on. Your post title is unhelpful to me and every other member who might otherwise be able to help you. It doesn’t particularly bother me that you don’t wish to provide an unhelpful topic title, but if you take the address off your house, how do you expect people to find you?

I do have better things to do then delve into every unhelpful post. I do wish to get out more, but I'm stuck here responding to your "stuipid question".
Anyway, unfortunately I don't have a Wizard, so can't help you with CID locking etc, but I'm sure others could help you. Once again, I advise you to change the title of this thread.
I can do it for you if you're on citysearch.com.

Dude. You do not like vijay when he is angry And of all the members here, vijay is not the one you want to mess with You ought to be new here.
Anyway, if you want to make sure your phone is CID unlocked, just unlock it again. No harm done unlocking it twice.
If you want to CID-lock your phone (e.g. you should have stated this clearly on your question, so I do not have to list out 2 different scenario), the software you used to unlock your phone will have instruction how to lock it back using the CID-lock backup file it generates.
If you wanted to CID-lock your phone because.. ..
Anyway, I can list out many scenario, better if you just let us know what and why you want it.

PS thanks for updating the topic title sk7575. See, it got an answer in the end!

Thank you for your response, but I do believe I was pretty clear with my question. I simply want to know if there is any setting that can be checked to determine if it is unlocked or not, without having to unlock it again. If I wanted to know how to lock I would have asked "how do I CID lock it" .
To my knowlwdge you can't tell. Myself, I'd just unlock the phone, but that's me.
I have to agree with the Doctor, after posting your "stupid Question", you could have unlocked your phone at least 20 times with all programs available on this forum.
Then your "stupid question" would have been answered.
But here you are 24 hours later....................
still would be nice to see CID-lock-status without being forced to do an unlock..
Speaking only for myself, I've never cared whether I could tell if my device was locked or not. After making the decision that I was solely responsible for anything that I did to my PDA, most certainly voiding my warranty, and most likely not caused by nor endorsed by any present administration, I unlocked my CID and my SIM.
Now I am truly free indeed!
Any custom ROM updates published here i.e.: not official vendor updates, require that your phone is unlocked, period.
As I said, I speak only for myself, but after being here for a while I think I have the pulse of the contributors here regarding this. Unlock your phone. If you can't remember if you did, then unlock again. It's really no big deal.
thank you fellas, for the lesson on how to alienate people
I won't express any self-doubt or in this forum.
Janis, remember that most people are on the board because they need help, or want to help. sk7575 didn't do himself many favours by originally using an unhelpful post title. Fortunately he's corrected that - unfortunately, he hasn't quite found the answer he was looking for.
The guys and gals on the board can be *****y and obtuse, but at the same time, they can make exceptionally generous contributions of their time. I get a surprising number of posts from people saying that they are too frightened to post questions on the forum. This surprises me - everyone should read the forum rules (try clicking on my flaming V to find them), try searching the forum and wiki, but after that, any question goes as far as I'm concerned.
I hope that we don't alienate, and frankly, being geeks, we're probably all racked with self doubt and bad body odour. C'est la vie - it's the human condition.
Apologies to all offended!

Thanks for your assistance Vijay. I got better responses once I fixed my topic.
Regarding people being afraid to post. I'm not surprised. This forum, like any other tech forum, is full of 75% type A personality people that are intolerant and *****y when they think people ask questions that are beneath them. Not everyone is great at troubleshooting, and not everyone wants to spend the time that some of us do researching problems. Sometimes, non-tech people may come here, and all they want is an answer, and a quick answer. there is nothing wrong with that. They probably see the bigger picture better than some of us.
It always baffled me why people post *****y responses in forums. take for example the people that responded to my posts saying "just unlock again". Yeah, thats an answer, but is it too much to ask for some utility that checks if you are unlocked? My question was asked like that for a reason -- i was trying to flash some ROMs, was having some issues, and when I went to CID unlock it was giving me some errors. I came to find out later that it had nothing to do with CID unlocking, it was in fact unlocked, but it would've been nice to see an indicator of such.
My point?? If people dont like the question, just ignore it and move on. Even had I asked my original question in the new more detailed fashion I ended up asking it a day later, I still would've gotten the "just unlock it again" responses from people. To those people I again say, just ignore it if you are going to respond with a silly answer.

I understand that completely but from the description you posted the problem wasn't even related to CID unlock status. Had you posted the actual issue chances are very good that within the first few responses someone would have pointed you in the right direction because they had experienced the same thing.
You see the problem you were trying to solve wasn't CID unlock but rather the errors you received while flashing the ROM. You thought it was related to CID unlock but in the end you were wrong. Had you stated the actual problem you were experiencing then you probably would have gotten to the solution a lot quicker.
That is the point I'm trying to make.
i just dont get this. i have been a member for 2 months and im just as lost as i was when i started. if i ask 1 of the people who know what to do they say search or gtfo. i search and end up more confused. the threads arent very friendly to a person just starting out like me. all of the language is written for people who already no what their doing. its not dumbed down at all. i think i will just use this site to download roms and themes since thats all i can seem to do
I am not trying to attack you or anything, but what is the purpose of this thread?
There are a lot of helpful people around here, maybe you aren't putting your questions in the Q&A thread? Or they aren't worded properly so people know how to assist you.... IDK.
Seeing as this is the only thread you have ever started here, I can't really say that it looks like you have posted much requesting help. I see one post where you were having problems flashing a new recovery image, but it looks like you probably just entered either the file name or path wrong. Or you didn't save the file in the root of your sdcard.
But, also, seeing as this is the XDA-Developers forum.... a certain level of knowledge seems to be expected by a lot of the members. I really don't see where anyone has told you to search or GTFO, in fact, I didn't really notice any responses to your posts.
If you want people to help you, post in the proper section and form coherent, explanatory questions.

See, another helpful person offering assistance..
This place isn't all that bad, now is it?
The issue is this I think...
Generally, you need to know something of what you are doing. The reasons are simple;
1) If things start to go wrong, you need to understand enough about the process to at least be able to follow instructions without them having to be written in a specific button-by-button manner,
2) People who blindly follow instructions are bound to miss a step or screw one up simply because they don't understand the instructions (this goes back to #1).
If you are a regular user of an android device, I suggest sticking with a stock build -- they are meant for people who know nothing about the platform. If you are an advanced user, you should be able to get the "gist" of things and fill in the blanks where necessary.
I'm not telling you to gtfo, what I'm telling you is that you really need to think about YOUR level of understanding of how things happen. If you aren't advanced enough to be able to fill in a few blanks here and there, then you might want to think about what you are doing, which is essentially putting a fairly expensive piece of technology into the hands of people you don't know and have no reason to trust. You also have to realize that the instructions that you get from here don't go through months of QA to verify that they are perfectly correct with no chance of, for example, bricking your phone. It is very possible that you could see a bunch of instructions that tell you what to do, but that the author maybe accidentally forgot to include a critical step, and it is absolutely UP TO YOU to be able to see that there is a missing step.
I concur. I have had numerous people ask me for help rooting their g1's. Some I help because they are computer literate and have hacked or altered software on other platforms and hardware. Those that have asked that still need help when basic things go wrong in a windows platform, I say no and tell them to enjoy their Android phone. If they are willing to dive in and learn, my offer may change down the road
What do you need help with?
I have the cognition beta5 installed right now and I would like to go back to 2.1 becouse my market downloads are slow very slow and my battery drains too. Is there a super noob way to down grade and if u could please tell me exactly step by step thx

You got cognition on your phone, so you must have visited the developer forum...
Have you even tried to find the answer on your own? I know you are asking for help, but didn't you look up "how to restore to stock" before you started? What if there is no way - like on some other phones? Why would you do a major mod, without looking up how to go back before you even started?
Try the first post in the developer section - the stickied one - the captivate bible.
Look for odin one click to down grade. I believe there is a thread dedicated to it. I've noticed some off things in the market but nothing worth downgrading for.

I must agree with what Alphadog said. You did not even bother to search. If you did there's absolutely no reason why this thread would be here. It's on the first page of the Android Development Section of these forums. You can't fricking miss it. But because you did, here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989

You can't be banned from a site like this, if so you just open up another user name and email....come on guys you must be new, but just for you i will delete it, i just hate when a new person gets on here and is treated like dirt. The guy asked a simple question...just answer "yes or no" thats it no need for the "extra advise" especially if you can't be nice about it. Besides how do you know the guy never bothered to search...thats an assumption on your part and when you assume you just...well you know. Don't assume just answer the question without being a jerk about it. A smart comment can be hidden behind what was suppose to be "friendly advise" and it's plain to see that this alpha dog was being smart assuming that the guy had not done his homework before making changes to his phone. At the end of the day...this release was not a good release, as we can see a lot of members on this site are having problems with their phones now. This is phone hacking using an leaked aka stolen version of froyo 2.2 that was patched together. We all took a chance and downloaded it at our own risk and now some members are paying for it because that's what happens when you accept stolen merchandise sometimes there are consequenses. Once you download this version of froyo the android market does not recognize the new version of the firmware and so a lot of apps are no longer available for you on the market unless you uninstall it put your phone back to eclair 2.1 and then try to access the market to find you missing apps. Now there is an Official version of froyo that is going to be released and anyone who downloaded the leaked aka stolen version will not and i repeat will not get the ota update from att this has been stated because the att server no longer recognizes your phones firmware version. Once again you will have to use your USB cable and pray that the "iffy" samsung keis application will see your phones stolen firmware and allow you to update to the leagle version of froyo 2.2 that should be a lot more stable then the the leaked...aka stolen version that everyone fell for.
These things are always "install at your own risk". If you screw it up, be prepared to figure out how to fix it. What Alphadog was trying to get at, is that if you just search, heck you don't even need to do that as all the answers are on the first page of the Dev subforum, you can figure out how to do it. He's also right in saying people need to do their homework before they mod their phone. You NEED a plan. You need to know how to be able to start anew should something get borked or you need to return it or something else.
It is irritating lately that these forums have been getting filled with really nooby questions like how to assign a picture to a contact. If everyone would spend some time using the phone or using google or searching the forums, the answer would be blatantly obvious. I think for the most part we're all just fed up with these questions, but instead of "being smart assed" about it and flaming, we just need to ignore the thread and let someone else deal with it.

That is true...or people who tend to be arogant in their thinking and looking down on folks who are not able to figure it out should use another forum. Thats all im trying to say. Heck what is the forum here for if not to help people. Check this out...I work in the mortgage forclosure industry..thats what i do im the guy that will put your home on the auction block if you can't pay for it for any reason. Poeple call me all the time all day long because they didn't read through their loan note before settlement or they were not informed during the settlement process as to what would happen if they didn't pay their mortgage. I don't get rude with them, i try to assist them because i have knowlege that could help them, imformation that they don't have. I don't want to see them get put out so i try to assist them by pointing them in the right direction over and over again no matter how often they call asking the same question.
My point? This is unchartered territory for some people, some of them don't even know how to use a forum...i wasn't born knowing how to write blog or use a forum. I had to ask questions sometimes over and over again. I had to research as well. But come on man these are 200.00 phones and for some folks thats a lot of money. If they mess up their phone ATT won't help them at all. Not to mention, unless you can get that samsung kies working on your computer your "might" be stuck with the stolen version of froyo 2.2 which as you can see is very very glitchy for some people.
Yes the sight says to mod at your own risk...but how can you dangle candy in someone face like that and expect them not to take the risk. Besides can you imagine what this country would be like if we had informed shoppers who did their homework before the shopped...this economy would be worse off then what it is, because people would think before they shopped or played around with their 200.00 smart phone taking a risk on damaging it for good.

If you want to spoon feed the entire world, that is your choice.
But defending people for their lack of judgment and research makes you look equally ignorant.
The point, at the beginning of this thread, is that if people just bothered TO TRY, they would find answers. Or just read the first post of a mod thread. I would think the words "this could brick your phone" would mean something. But no, most people are so used to bailouts and handouts that they don't stop to learn. I pointed the OP in the right direction - the information is there if he/she looked.
Oh, and if we had informed shoppers - we wouldn't have the mortgage mess we have now. People blame the banks, but it is idiot consumers that buy more then they can afford, get zero down loans, balloon loans, and hope their house goes up in value so they can refinance later.
The idea that more informed shoppers would make the economy worse is comical.

PLEASE HELP ME! my phone is "rooted" with 3 third-party apps my BF installed!
I noticed that my nexus 6 was acting funny, and since my boyfriend purchased this phone for me- he set the entire thing up. The day it arrived, he plugged my phone into his laptop and started typing away at what looked like a black screen and a boxy white font with a bunch of rom codes etc(at this point, i was totally clueless and oblivious to what he was doing)...
Then, he would sporadically bring up specific texts that i had sent, and at times would randomly pinpoint specific addresses and times and asked me about them(mind you, they were my friends homes) which left me to wonder "how the hell did he even know about that text or specific location unless my phone is hacked??"
so, i took my phone to a specialist who confirmed that my phone was rooted with a custom ROM along with 3 third-party apps "kernel adiutor", "pure nexus", and "xda labs".
Once i called tech support for my phone, they said they couldn't help me because they're third party apps that are not legal to use in the first place.
long story short, his mom confirmed recently that he in fact has my phone hacked. can somebody please give me insight on the apps he installed and the purpose they serve?? what kind of access/capabilities does he have now that my phone is rooted even if i restore my phone???
Kernel Auditor Xda labs and pure nexus are not phone hacking apps Xda lab is app by xda community and Kernel Auditor is for tweaking the kernel and i think Pure Nexus is a Custom Rom for the Nexus
If you want to get rid of this you can ask service centre to flash Stock Rom of Nexus phone

You have a very *very* serious problem.
As khanboyz007 says, the apps you mention are entirely pukka, totally normal, nothing suspicious.
But...
If you can't trust your boyfriend so much that you have to post for help from anonymous strangers, then your problem is far deeper than your Nexus 6. From the technical side of your description, he's done nothing at all wrong, but from reading between the lines you don't trust him, and *that's* a dealbreaker.
Why are you asking us instead of him? Give him a chance to explain. Maybe there's nothing more sinister than you (clearly without any technical knowledge... sorry...) don't have your phone password-protected and he's just looked at your texts - in itself a breach of trust, but still not justifying posting in a public forum to strangers.

I wouldnt say that at all. If he can tell where she has been and what text she is sending then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone which is illegal.
My advise would be to completely wipe your device. Flash a stock rom and dont let him touch your device.
As for your personal life no one can or has any right to say anything about that. Do what you think is best.
If he knows the locations you've been at its possible he has your google+ share location set where it's shared with him. Or possibly he had set up an email for you on it and is signing into it to track your location. As far as the apps you mentioned they are %100 percent legal, most carrier don't know anything about rooting or custom Roms and will not give you adequate advice. But as they said, you can just flash the stock image, make your own Gmail to sign in or make sure to change your Gmail password. After you do make sure that that you put a password on your device that he doesn't know.
"then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone"
Isn't that what I said...? No trust. This isn't in any way a technical question - it's about their relationship.
And since I've seen your many posts here over the years I know you've got a fair amount of life experience, in which case I can assume that you know of Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is likely to be the correct one, and the simplest explanation here is not that he's installed a monitoring app but is simply looking at the phone. I stand by my comments.
"no one can or has any right to say anything about that"
Yes, I agree, it would be none of my business - *if* she hadn't asked for my advice (as well as yours).
If she has so little trust in her partner, and has asked for advice (technical or otherwise), then the answer has to be "Look very carefully at your relationship".
(P.S. To avoid the inevitable "sexist" comments, yes, I've assumed it's a female poster, but I'm aware that there are alternatives).
To be honest I think it might be a moot point as he is most likely part of this forum and has seen this post.
Then he's got the message...
Or this is just a prank. Like I'm getting private messages from people who haven't even posted yet to fix their phones.

Yes, that same thought had occurred to me. I give the benefit of the doubt unless there's a clear sign that it's a joke, and this one does come close to the edge...
A lot of effort for a not-funny joke though. It would be good if the OP provides some feedback - I do get very fed up with people asking for advice, which is given maybe by half a dozen people who have taken the time and trouble to provide it, only for the OP to vanish into the ether without so much as a "thank you" button press.
Step one, flash the phone back to stock using the links provided eariler posts.
Step two, dump the loser - he is too controlling, and this will never change...
Now that the personal advice has been given, let's bring this thread back to troubleshooting device issues, not relationship issues . Thanks for your cooperation.

Your friend has set up your phone the same way as he should do for himself.
There nothing wrong with rooting and the apps you mentioned.
My idea is that ask him very friendly to flash the latest official stock Rom.
Tell him that you prefer the official rom of Google.
Because you want official support when there is something wrong. And you don't need root acces because you only use 'normal' apps.
As everything there are disadvantages.
A rooted phone allows you to install layers. That makes it possible to choose dark themes. And that's important when you need a better battery life.
I Bet he's using Cerberus. Go into your settings>apps, select to include system apps. You'll be looking for a app name: system framework. If you see this He is tracking you using Ceberus, . This app/service is pretty awesome. I was able to track my phone down, see the texts sent, turn the mic on and listen to where my phone was at. .
Like everyone said flash a new rom. clean slate. Then dump dude, there should be no need for that crap.
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en

Once i called tech support for my phone, they said they couldn't help me because they're third party apps that are not legal to use in the first place.
long story short, his mom confirmed recently that he in fact has my phone hacked. can somebody please give me insight on the apps he installed and the purpose they serve?? what kind of access/capabilities does he have now that my phone is rooted even if i restore my phone???

to me, a "specialist", it sounds like he did you a favor, by rooting your device, and adding apps that you will need to control your own phone. your "own" i say because otherwise you are just using someone elses device, that you happened to pay for with your money. so, instead of posting a pissy thread, id do a little more research on how to control your own phone, and then tell him thank you.
oh, btw, just because the apps arent from the play store, it does not make them illegal to use, at all. you can use whatever app you want, from wherever you want, LEGALLY.
I'm coming round to istperson's point of view - this thread is beginning to look more and more like an elaborate pointless hoax, and not a very funny one.
There are far too many of these threads where people ask a question and then disappear without the courtesy of a sign-off or even a "thank you". Very discouraging, and makes me less keen on spending my time here trying to help timewasting ingrates...
I'm gonna close this thread for now. If the OP has anything else to add they can contact me again to reopen it.
Not all apps are legal. It really depends on where you are living. As an example. Things like keyloggers, call recorders (depending on local laws) screen recorders and things of this nature are completely legal in some countries like China, while being completely illegal in other places in the world.
Also installing tracking software of any kind on someone's device is also illegal.
We have to remember that many people search for help on something, reg to the forum to get the answer and dont come back until they have another issue. This is becoming far more common as of late.
hey guys, I was a windows phone lover, but as we know, i got forced out... so as I'm nkt a snob, I won't own a iPhone, so im trying my best with Android, but am not happy how intrusive Google is, I don't really care for Google either, and I feel they're watching my every move, and id like to ride dirty if I want to without someone watching me.. if... I felt like it.. sorta creepy if you ask me, plus Google ruined my buddies phone for downloading a video game they say was pireted, so im not ok with that, as the phone was my buddies property.. so.. yeah, that's my feelings on all this, miss windows, don't own a computer, just a boy and his stalker android phone, that always seems to have issues with software, afraid to turn my phone off, because for whatever reason, android phones don't like to turn back on.. for me anyway, hello everyone
Hi, Jeremy619
Welcome to XDA Developer forum.
If you dislike Google, I would recommend installing a custom ROM whiteout Gapps.
I hope you enjoy your stay. If you need any help or guidance in using the site, make sure to send me a DM.
Btw, you may check out the forum rules.

thank you, I don't know how to do that sort of thing, and ware I live, we don't have phone lines, so no computer access, so I would need a way to do stuff either buy using phones own storage, or SD card, or to another phone, and a male to male cable linking the two phones together,, but as it seems, I'm guessing my Stylo 5 isn't root friendly, so idk, thanks for any help info you can provide, also, I'm having major problems with senior members, I posted a help question, and no one has responded to it, but if I comment on others posts, asking if they fixed the problem, or what I should try, it gets removed, then I suggested someone with a broken phone, hook a Sim card up to another broken phone, after getting the one networked unlocked, if it still didn't work, and putting in the other phone... and got message not to post illegal stuff on here.. it wasn't illegal, seems everyone wants to keep removing my posts, and talking crap to me, but no one wants to help me with my phone problem, I don't understand, I need help, not policing, thanks, if there's anything you can do to guide me or help me, it'd be appreciated
