I had used the all in one tool with CWM 4 in the package to root and install Gingervolt. I then installed Gingervolt 1.3, v6 supercharger u9 rc4, and blitzkreig 2.0. I had created backups before flashing each of these. I then flashed only the cwm 5.0.2 a few days ago to update from cwm4 to cwm5. After that, I was using some of the ics tweaks spc_hicks had listed (3g) and made a theme on UOT just to see what it was like. After flashing the theme, I decided to go back to right before. When went into recovery, none of my backups would restore, they all come up with MD5 mismatch error and then kick me back to the cwm screen. Any thoughts? Should I just wipe data/factory reset?
My phone isn't acting funny, I just don't like that I don't have backups that work.
Not sure why you're getting the md5 mismatch but just to get back to where you were I would just flash Hicks theme again or re flash gingervolt.

I have reflashed Gingervolt. I then made a backup before doing anything else (blitz 2.0, v6 supercharger). Just for fun, I went into recovery to restore from that backup and get the md5 mismatch error. If I do wipe data/factory reset, will that take me back to a rooted stock rom?
i downloaded the stock rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348637 ), unrooted, then re ran the one click set up and now all is good.

I've made a nandroid backup of my rooted stock Rom with cyanogen recovery and flashed Modacos FR15 wich worked retty good for me. But after some testing i wanted to change back to my stock Rom. After doing backup of the Modaco I wiped and restored the stock rom backup which refused to boot. I restored the modaco Rom which worked perfect. Any ideas what the reason could be? BTW md5 check before restore was all fine and no errors on restore.

Did you wipe everything? Also Dalvik cache? It worked for me tho, what kind of version are you using for CWM?
CWM is 3.0.2.8 (latest version which i installed via ROM Manager) - as I said - other backups of CM Nightly and Modaco FR15 worked without probs. But I made 2 Backups of my rooted Stock ROM v10c which refuse to boot after restore :/
Wiped all except Dalvik - I thought Dalvik gets wiped when doing Wipe Data / Factory Reset ... but I will try again with wiping Dalvik too.
I tried again to restore this time with dalvik wipe - but no change - boot hangs at the LG logo with the grey/blue loading-bar, the bar is moving some seconds and then stops and nothing happens. :/
try to press power+vol down to reset the phone to factory default. see if it can help...
I've had similar problem.
phone wont boot.
Only way I found out, you can see here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15-03-2011/
but you will loose everything what is on your phone
The reason it won't work, is because MCR converts the file system to ext4 (which CM7 can cope with). To revert to stock, you need ext3 - either
1. Use this to convert back to ext3 and immediately restore the backup (don't reboot or it will go fubar) http://android.modaco.com/content/l...3-for-converting-your-device-er-back-to-ext3/
2. Use nvflash to restore the stock 10b, then flash Clockwork, and then restore your backup.
The choice is yours .
Ok..... I just rooted my replacement LG Revo then installed the RevoToolKit by theCubed. I did "3" back-ups of the stock ROM before I flashed to Revoltrom1.2. Now when I try to restore to the stock factory rom I get a "md5 mismatch" while in recovery boot thru RevoToolKit and cannot restore the factory rom. Any ideas????

which method are you restoring using?
I go into Revotoolkit, boot into recovery mode, select backup/restore, advanced restore, then pick one of the three stock back ups i did before I flashed to Revolt, restore system and it keeps giving me the md5 mismatch.
I should add that I did the back ups thru the RevoToolKit, menu, boot recovery, back-up/restore, back-up.I even get the same md5 mismatch when I try to flash revo de-crap no matter which method I use and no matter how many times I redownload it. Thanks for all of your input and hardwork. Noobs like myself GREATLY, GREATLY appreciate it!!!!

When you restore a stock back up, just use restore, not advanced.
I'm Revolting and Home-Less, how about you?
I did that and still get the same thing
Alright, if you are on Revolt, just hold the power button and recovery should be an option. I don't see why that would make a difference, but one less step lol. For DeCrap, Revolt, or Home-Less once in recovery go to backup/restore, advanced, system restore, and pick which rom you want (DeCrap, Revolt, or Home-Less). If flashing a stock back up once in recovery go to backup/restore, restore, and choose from factory one. If still having problems, you may try reinstalling stock recovery with revotoolkit, then reinstalling cwm. Good luck!!!
Tbanks!!!! I am a noob so how would I reinstall cwm ? Reroot??
How did you install it the first time? Did you use revotoolkit?
Yes. I rooted using one click and got recovery using revotool
ok you can install stock recovery with revotoolkit, then use it again to reinstall cwm
Should I reboot afterwards and/or clear the caches??
As you can tell, I am a noob to all things root and rom and have very, very, very little to no experiance with programming. This phone is a replacement to one that was new and rooted with revolt and somehow it lost all recoveries and would not leave the boot recovery screen. The insurance sent me a BRAND NEW one which I have now. I rooted with one click, then installed RevoToolKit, booted into recovery, backup/restore, then backup. Did this three times before loading any new roms. i then tried to install revo decrap and got the md5 mismatch, so I installed Revolt1.2 and all worked fine. Basically, I want to have the option to go back to the stock shipping rom(LG and VZW apps just like the phone was never touched).
When I try to restore the shipping rom I get the md5 mismatch. No matter if I go thru boot recovery, backup/restore, backup and pick one of the three, and I have tried doing it through the advanced and get the same thing. I rooted to have the ability to freeze/remove bloat then decided to change roms. Everything works great except some features like the voicemail button or voice search buttons give me errors that state: process was stopped unexpectedly. I went into revotoolkit and changed the recovery from cwm to stock revo and back and still no luck. What are my options? If I take it to Verizon will they reinstall the stock shipping rom, and if so, since the warranty is void since rooted, any idea on what they charge to do that? Thanks so much for the help, knowledge and patience that ALL of you have had.
So today my phone was on and everything was fine, then while I was charging it, went away from it a few minutes then came back it was on the boot menu. It now can not get past the boot menu ever.
I have ClockWork Mod recovery installed, and CM7.1 stable.
I did a "backup" via the ClockWork Mod Recovery of the system.
I am also quite tempted to get the CM9 RC2 installed. But screw it if it any kind of unstable. CM7.1 stable is unstable enough.
What should I do? I would prefer it if I did not lose all my stuff (like app notes etc).
Can I like just put my phone into Download Mode, place the CM9 RC2 on the root folder, then do the good old
cyanogenmodWiki Full Update Guide method via recovery
without losing anything?

If you have done a "backup" from CWM before the failure just restore that.
From CWM menu try to do a dalvic and cache clean up. also clear init.d and nstool settings and try to reboot
If you want to be more adventurus and loose your contacts, sms, settings...and other stuff from CWM do full wipe and cache and dalvic and then install your favorite rom.
I tried to installthe Gnexus port rom jr03l 4.1.1 rc 10. I was on TAJB'S Jellybean rom with devil kernel. I tried to install the rom as per the instructions given. I did a nandroid backup of the current rom before attempting to do so. The flash failed as the phone rebooted into recovery after a few minutes. I tried to restore from my nandroid backup. That failed too and it came up with a message of "no free space". I rebooted the phone and the phone automatically tried to flash the gnexus port rom again. It failed rebooted and got stuck on the devil kernel screen.
After about 20 mins, i took the battery out and rebooted into recovery. I really dont know where to go from here. I need to backup my efs folder too somehow.
I have a flash zip of the gnexus port rom, the tajb rom and a cm9 nightly in my internal sd card. I also have a nandroid backup of my cm9 rom.
Any help will be greatlyy appreciated!!!
Please help me.

Was running the note on ParanoidAndroid v 0.5. Everything was fine. I had gotten PA v0.5 by flashing stock GB, used CF-Root with CWM to root the phone and get custom recovery. After this flashed PA 0.5 onto the Note. No kernels etc have been changed. Before flashing PA 0.5 i had taken a nandroid backup of the stock rooted GB with CWM recovery.
Fast forward to today..
I wanted to take something off my old nandroid backup so i rebooted into recovery took a backup of the current setup.. Backup successful.. After this i rebooted into recovery and restored the old nandroid backup.. This was also successful.. I booted into the phone, exported the data that i wanted and used the restore option available in the CWM recovery application that comes as part of the CF-Root package.. The phone rebooted into recovery.. Was at verfiying MD5 stage.. And then suddenly everything goes blank and the phone went into a boot loop.. It just stays at the screen where It says Galaxy Note GT-N7000.. Tried rebooting into download/recovery etc.. Nothing works.. Just coming back to the same splash screen..
I have not wiped the note on any unsafe kernel.. I'm sure about that.. Please help!:crying:
Try to boot into stock recovery and use pc-odin to flash a stock GB
Try to get in download mode....and please flash gb rom.
I would suggest pre-rooted gb rom.
And if you cant get in download mode or in recovery mode....then it is soft brick.....

actually try wipingcache and dalvik first from safe kernel recovery.
after that if the nandroid you restore is ics and kernel is cm or aokp you need to flash an ics kernel inbetween.
Make sure to fkash when restoring pa you have same kernel you made nandroid with.
First things first, thanks to all of you for your replies.. I backtracked on my steps and i had done *some* mistake with the steps that i followed..
People who want to know the result: Problem solved! Yay!
Here's what i had done..
I went back to GB nandroid backup from a 5.5.x.x CWM based recovery (worked fine - as expected)
The GB nandroid backup had a 5.3.x.x CWM based recovery. So my mistake was trying to restore a backup, which was taken with a newer CWM based recovery, using the older 5.3.x.x recovery.. This is where it failed..
Luckily i somehow got into download mode, flashed stock GB and rooted it using the zergrush exploit, flashed CF-Root kernel with a CWM based recovery, booted into it, flashed PA v0.5.
Then after this, rebooted into recovery of PA v0.5 and restored the nandroid backup of PA v0.5..
Voila! It worked :victory:
I was using Ultimate ROM XXLSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 without any problems apart from poor battery performance.
However, I attempted to install Rocket ROM-V1-XXLSZ and have now got myself into trouble.
I followed the instructions to flash the latest XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel and then flashed the Rocket ROM. It worked ok but I would like to return to the Ultimate ROM and kernel I had before.
I have a pevious full Nandroid backup of the phone (made with ROM Manager Premium) of the Ultimate ROM and the PhilZ kernel it came with but cannot restore it. I get the error "MD5 Mismatch" and the restore aborts.
Even if I reflash the original Ultimate ROM with all the usual wipes, the XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel is still there and I still can't restore from the Nandroid backup. I tried re-flashing PhilZ 3.1 kernel separately and then the Ultimate ROM file but this didn't work either. The kernel is still the same.
Can anyone tell me how to either
1. completely wipe the phone so I can install Ultimate ROM AND the built-in PhilZ 3.1 kernel.
OR
2. get the phone to the point where I can restore from my Nandroid backup which I assume will restore the earlier version of the ROM at the same time.
I hope I've explained the situation clearly enough.
Thanks in advance.
Trevor
Install a cm kernel then wipe your phone then install a fresh ultimate rom and later on advance restore the data

Go to cwm/backup and restore/misc nandroid setting/ untick md5 check. And try to restore again

You don't want to restore your nandroid. It is a bad backup.
In philz recovery go to mounts and storage. Format system data preload cache. Them go to advanced from main page and wipe dalvik
Flash ROM. Guaranteed to work.

Thanks. I know I can flash the ROM again but I was hoping to learn why the Nandroid backup no longer works.
Since posting, I gave up trying to restore the Nandroid backup, did all the usual wipes, re-flashed the Ultimate ROM and re-installed all my apps from scratch so my phone is more or less back to normal (Incidentally, I notice that no matter how many times I do this, all my music and photos are still there even though they're stored on the internal sd card. Dunno why).
Most of the ROMs I've tried have the kernel built in so all I needed to do was do the usual wipes and then flash. If I didn't like the ROM, I just wiped again and restored the Nandroid backup using CWM (Vol Up + Menu + Power) and the phone was back to its previous state.
The only thing I did different this time, as per the Rocket ROM instructions, was flash a kernel first. I may have done something wrong with that step or messed it up somehow. Even when I flashed an earlier version of the PhilZ kernel, the restore still didn't work. I've still a lot to learn about ROMs and Kernels, I guess.
As I said, I have successfully restored from Nandroid backups many times before this without any problem after experimenting with different custom ROMs. Can I ask you why Nandroid is a bad backup? Is it a problem with ROM Manager?
(One problem I've always had with ROM Manager is that if I choose to write the backup to the external sd card, it falls over with error messages. If I choose the option to backup to the internal card, it works but writes the BACKUP TO THE EXT CARD ANYWAY! I cannot get a reply from the dev about this).
Is there a better, more reliable backup method you'd recommend that does the same thing as the Nandroid?
I notice that different ROM managers use different CWM Recovery versions ie ROM Manager Reboot Recovery = 6.0.1.2, ROM Toolbox Rebooter = CWM 6.0.2.8 (same as Vol Up + Menu + Power). Could that be part of the problem?
Sorry for the long winded post.
