[Q] Dell Streak 7 OTG USB Cable - Dell Streak 7

I picked up a few of this Streak OTG Cables and am trying to sort out what is needed to make them work on the dell streak 7.
Im currently running root 514 but the cable doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone have any info on how to enable OTG on the Streak? They got it working on streak 5... figured should be supported by 7 as well.

There's only so many contacts on a USB port, so use a meter to compare to a Dell OEM cable. Unless there is something else in the connector?

This isn't a standard usb plug.. its for OTG USB Host... For Thumbdrives and USB Keyboards etc.
IT shorts out pins 2 and 4 to get the streak into USB Host mode. It was shown working for the Streak 5. Got some to try on 7. Donno if its not in the Kernel or what needs to be enabled.
TheManii you have any insight?

It needs kernel support, some custom kernels on the s5 have otg support and the s7 might.
Stock kernels do not though, even 5xx kerns.
Where did you buy it? When I last checked the guy that makes them only sold them in bulk, either that's changed or someone else is making/selling them now.

Hes still selling them in Bulk. I was able to get a few for testing as I plan to resell them if they are worthy. Not having kernel support in Stock build kinda puts a kink in my plans if thats true. But either way personally would like to have it working for my streak.
Any rom build suggestions I should try?

Hi mobilemedic... You managed to get to work OTG cable on Dell Streak 7? You bought it from HXCOMCHINA? Would it work on Android 3.2? And is it possible to connect multiple devices through a USB hub?

I got one, to not work.
Where did you see that they got it to work because i have a host OTG cable i bought that i cannot get to work even with a dell streak 5, I've tried all the USB mice and keyboards in the house and ive tried my USB thumbdrive, but i cant get them to work.
Have you or anyone gotten one of these cables that look like that,.. with the triangle (not a USB sign)? (except the triangle on mine is not white,.. just black)
Are they're extra drivers required that are not included in the latest dell streak update?

For the last time (and please someone close these threads) THERE IS NO OTG drivers from DELL.

Follow steps and it should work

You need a Y cable to power the USB device as the Streak 7 does not supply power through USB. Plug one male USB into OTG USB port, the other male into a USB charger, and your USB device into the female. Works on stock 3.2 rooted Streak 7. Mouse, keyboard, and Logitech gamepad all tested and working.

Charging
OTGing,not charging
Apparently the kernel [or maybe the charging hardware] disables charging when OTG host mode is enabled. I asked about simultaneous OTG & charging over on Rootzwiki, read this post:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30615-can-you-charge-usb-host-mode-simultaneously/#entry868406
Wow, first of all, nice job. I like what you did with the case mounted extra USB charging port lol.
And second.. damnit thats really dissapointing...
I was hoping to buy the official dock + a USB hub so I could dock the tablet to charge, access external storage, and run on an ethernet connection. Sigh.
I dont see much point in getting the official dock now :|
Why did you ever get your hopes up in the first place? The tablet was never marketed or even designed for that.
The pogo pins are not useless. When pogo pin docks are available they will prevent excessive wear and tear on the charging port.

What do you mean "not the same way"?
However, another user on a different device says he got OTG + charging to work, and that "it should work with any OTG device." Not sure if it will work with the N7, but he hasn't posted the details yet, he says he will soon.
It's probably worth a read, highlight is post #2

Sorry,my English is poor.I'm from China.
The two VCCs is not connected. There are two ways to drive the PMIC to charge the battery. When use the dock points, the battery icon is not displayed 'charging'.

What's wrong with being creative with my nexus?
And I only had those ideas after seeing the threads confirming that Ethernet adapters are compatible.
And I don't know about you but I've never had a usb port wear out on me.
Might still get the dock just cause it looks cleaner though

OTG test,if you can read chinese:http://bbs.gfan.com/android-4836095-1-1.html
@OP
N7 can't provide power to USB peripheral while it's charging. Re-route USB connection through dock, and have dock power both peripheral and N7. See schematic for above-referenced homemade dock for Xperia S (no need for switches to disconnect ground or OTG).
Edit: Add switch to short D+ and D- for faster charging when OTG isn't in use.

OTG Cables "What Works, What Doesn't"

As the thread title states, this thread is about OTG Cables. I made this thread to help save people from spending a couple dollars on OTG Cables that don't work.
If you have tested an OTG Cable that doesn't work, or does work, please post a comment and I'll put it on this thread. Thanks!
Below is a list of OTG Cables on Amazon. These should work, but haven't been tested.

Will it work on the GNote 2 is the question though.
I have one from the 5 pack and it works perfectly fine on my Galaxy Note 2. That being said, they should all work fine.

Why wouldn't it? Micro-usb is micro-usb.
I brought the official samsung HDMI adaptar for my s3, can anyone confirm if it works with note2? I know there were pin differences with s2 and s3 adaptors.
I have the new adaptor here. Will check shortly and let you know.
I'm pretty sure it uses the same one as the galaxy s3 as I saw a video.of.someone using.it.

as these USB-OTG cables allow you to connect USB devices to you're phone. the standard things will be a flash drive, keyboard, mouse. now about drivers in android. what else can you do with this? connect an USB-IR receiver? USB IO box?(serial) USB to RJ45? DVB-T receiver?
This would make a nice addition to the list of working cables, the functions of USB-OTG on the NOTE II!
Samsung USB-OTG cables for Galaxy Note works on Galaxy Note2 too. It doesn't seem to do the same the Samsung MHL/HDMI cable for Galaxy Note. Can someone confirm it?
I heard that Samsung MHL/HDMI cable for SGS3 works with Note2, don´t know about the one with original Note.
Dirt-cheap ebay usb-microusb cables never worked for me on SGS1, only good for charging.
Good idea this thread
so I got a otg usb cable for an external hdd. and obviously it doesn't work because the hdd format is ntfs. anyone know how to make your note 2 device read ntfs external hdds?
kernel support is needed to read NTFS partitions natively. if you have root you could try the NTFS mounters for OTG available in the play store.
What HD formats does it actually read natively? Just FAT32?

not to sure about this, but i believe exfat, fat32, and it would seem likely to support ext3/ext4.

MHL adapter in back of dock

SImple question,
if you buy a charging dock can you simply put the MHL adapter in the back into the micro usb port and have it charge/video out at the same time?
clearly the new 11 pin dock for an s3 or n2.
i couldnt see why this wouldnt work but just want to make sure. im planning on a nice little setup via HDMI and bluetooth keyboard/mouse.
The setup you describe worked with my galaxy tab 7" plus but not with my galaxy s3, so I'd be interested in the answer to this aswell
For me, i search the Saint Graal, a charging dock and transfer data with :
- Audio line-out
- HDMI
- USB
- Port SD ...
It's only a dream ???
it will work with Phones that doesn't have the extra pins that Samsung put in the micro USB port in the Note 2/S3 unless that dock has these pins unfortunately it wont work.

^^would the samsung adapter 5-11pin adapter work that you can buy for a few bucks?
i feel this is reasonable since a dock is simply an extension in some plastic.
The official smart dock has:
HDMI
3USB ports (you could plug in an sd card adapter)
3.5mm out
micro usb sync/charge in
cost 64.95 euros i think

Kidigi also do one: http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1418 but it apparently won't sync with a PC, so it's just an MHL dock. Doesn't look like it'll charge the phone well either as it outputs 500mA

OTG cable what works and doesn't work

I purchased some cheap OTG cables a while back off Amazon and don't remember them ever working on my Bionic, Thunderbolt, DroidX, LG Revo, Sero 7 Pro, or Nook Color. I plugged a USB stick into it and it worked great on my G2. Even found a way to record the HD 1080 60fps video directly to USB stick via OTG. Also mouse via hub and memory stick all worked together. No go for USB LAN.

Rohde and Schwarz NRP-Z21 and Z24 power sensors work (when used with an NRP-Z4 USB adaptor cable). Not a very common thing but it sure is convenient if you do need it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think OTG works without USB host mode on the device. Special kernels were always required on the earlier devices to get anything connected via USB and not to a computer to transfer data. From what I've read, the G2 has USB host mode enabled, so all sorts of stuff should plug right in and work. USB LAN might work with kernel tweaks, but that is beyond my somewhat basic knowledge.
There is a great mini micro SD card reader on another thread that would skip the use of OTG cables for simple storage expansion, and has a USB pass-through for plugging in a stick rather than a card. I believe the cost was around $12. That is a fancy set-up you have there, but seems spendy in comparison.

you can try customize USB-On-The-Go (OTG) with charger enable...
a normal USB OTG connected Sense/ID together Ground to work USB OTG only
to enable charger you need 100k ohm resistor connect it between Sense/ID and Ground
.....it should be work....but it's quite mesh up

Option is to use Sony Ericsson dk10 live dock station, like me, which has no problem charging the phone, and attach a flash drive to dock and thus be used as a network drive even or as you decide. But the price of this dock at the moment is about 25$.
This is just my opinion and my practice.

Have you thried such a cable yourself? I saw some cables with additional power connector on eBay, but the descriptions told nothing about charging the phone. Does a DIY cable really allow the charging of the phone?
