===================================================
8125Omnimax HTC Vivid CIQ Neuter Tool Version 1.1
===================================================
Ok, so I made it easy for everyone now, its just down to click and neuter
My batch file takes care of everything now, no need for deletion of IQRD.apk and HtcIQAgent.apk using market apps, everything is now automated and executed in this bat file to remove CIQ.
Linux Kernel Drivers are low level and still remain, Only sure way to get rid of those two low level drivers is to flash a modified kernel or install any of the great optimized roms available on the HTC Vivid forum.
The batch file contained with in along with its components are designed to make the removal of the Carrier IQ Process easy enough for the XDA beginner. Before you begin please make sure of the following:
Requirements:
-HTC Sync Should Be Disabled (This will eliminate those server out of date messages)
-Your HTC Vivid must be Bootloader Unlocked and Rooted!
-Your phone must be set in Developers Mode!
Execute the run.bat file and follow directions
Failure to adhere to any of these requirements will result in the batch file not being able to neuter the CIQ Process!
If you have any questions feel free to PM me @ XDA
-8125Omnimax
*Ver 1.0 Changelog (Yes there was actually a 0.5 Closed Non-Web Beta)*
-Added adb kill-server commands in the batch file to stop pre-running adb processes so the app could run without a hitch
-Added commands to delete odex files which are generated when the HtcIQAgent.apk & IQRD.apk were not deleted correctly from my post on how to manually delete CIQ
-No need to use Titanium Backup or Root capable file explorers to delete HtcIQAgent.apk & IQRD.apk, proper commands are addressed to delete said files streamlined within this batch file
-Neatened up the bat file commands
*Ver 1.1 Changelog
-Kernel and Logcat messages are cleared prior to reboot at end of the tools process
Upcoming features:
-The ability to flash a non CIQ infected kernel
-Windows 7 and Mac OSX Lion GUI stand alone apps
-An all in one root/ciq neuter/bloat remover package

sweet...makes going back to the stock rom a lil easier for me that is until cm9 comes around

If I already used your other method to neuter CIQ , do you advise to run this again ? My score currently is 150 on voodoo app.
Thanks
-Dash

This bat script basically does the same process, hence you don't need to manually delete the two ciq apk's using market file explorer root apps anymore. Running this after following my manual post does no harm, but can make sure the process is eradicated

Only recommended using this app with the stock gingerbread release and hooked up to a pc or mac with adb running. I stopped working on this app due to the removal of ciq on ICS for the vivid, about all roms on the site are ICS, and once you go ICS, you won't want to go back imo.

It flashes, boots and works fine (I've flashed multiple times).
Did you follow the instructions?
This is made for the galaxy tab IO version (altho it would probably boot on the 'v' also, provided you have a recovery which can flash test key signed images).
sweet thanks a lot been wanting sqlite3! Do you know is it possible to add python to the mix? I've been able to get the python binary working on the tab but don't know how to link up the libraries.
Ill look in to it.

Try to delete the app completly(with data for it), and reflash.
Works fine over here (ex: su state is saved and always launches and going to app shows su as saved).

Post logs if you can't get it to go after full deletion and reflash.
Just tested with autostarts.
Works fine (tested twice, each time closing the app and relaunching).

this does not put an su file/binary in bin.
you must have had other things in prior to flashing this.
remove the su file from bin, and reflash the .zip for good measure (in case you have broken links elsewhere, etc.).
That fixed it thanks. Not sure how the other su got there just followed root instructions from other thread

when you flash this you will be rooted/have root capabilities when you return to the OS, so there is no need to do another method on top of this.

This manual was written in order to develop more easy deodexed rom..
if you want to getting the pure deodexed ROM, You need to have a separate build process..
So i would need to re build my entire rom?

I tried pushing the files back to the phone and it caused alot of problems so im guessing that i would have to learn how to build roms then. lol

USB OTG support for HTC salsa
Hi ,
My device is HTC salsa (rooted), running by stock rom(Android version 2.3.3, kernel version 2.6.35.10), will my device support USB OTG ?, so that i can connect Flash drives(Pen drive/hard disk/mouse/keyboard) to my device, if not , is there any way to make my device to support USB OTG. I don't have interest in custom ROM.

hi there, although you can use the search function for this, i may aswell allow this question for others that wish to follow this.
I typed in USB OTG and got this as top search >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820375
please beware this isn't designed to run on our phones, this may or may not work. i would suggest using the search functions and look into HTC variants of this and not other brands. Good Luck in your quest chap :good:

that's not recommended, why would you want to? all you would do is cause force closures and possibly crash the system.apk which renders the phone pretty useless. the system.apk is meant for each phone so for use in another htc model it probably wouldn't work correctly or functions would be missing, and to use in another brand android you will find it won't work at all.
rule of thumb, never move a system app to the sd card. unless you want to reflash your rom again or know how to replace it back again.this goes for google play, and other main system files just to save space.
Since Internal memory is low and I don't want to loose system app , I just wanted to convert system app to user app, install as user app and create a link through link2sd. So that it my internal memory increases.

there's no other way other than rooting and using data2sd to increase memory. its been tried and tested and all you end up with is failure and some serious complications

Use Root Browser from Play Store. But do you want to copy the whole folder? You atleast cant save the folder an an .apk. But you can copy all .apk contents for sure.
Please don't encourage users to do the wrong thing. Never move or mess with system apps when they don't know what there Doing. All you said here has contradicted what I said of don't do it.

Apparently you can do this from the SDK emulator if you have the ROM in system.img format (which I believe dsixda's kitchen can do, don't remember off the top of my head). Probably won't work with an extracted system image though, but I've never tried so can't confirm.. anyway
Windows PC
1. Download the Android SDK (which includes the emulator) from here.
2. Extract the downloaded zip.
3. Run a command prompt, and change to the 'tools' directory of the SDK (or add the tools directory to your path).
4. Type 'android list target'
5. Note the 'id' number of the '1.5' target (in my case it's '2')
6. Type 'android create avd -n enhanced -t 2' (substitute 2 with the target number determined above if required)
7. You will be prompted to create a hardware profile. This is optional, but I selected 'yes' and accepted the defaults for everything except RAM, where I gave it 256MB.
8. Download your system.img
9. Copy the above file to the location of the enhanced.avd directory ('C:\Documents and Settings\\.android\enhanced.avd' on Windows XP, and 'C:\Users\\.android\enhanced.avd' on Windows Vista).
10. You're ready! Type 'emulator -avd enhanced' to run! Note: inital boot may take a few minutes!
If you get Java errors, you need to download the JDK for your system
Mac OSX
1. Download the Android SDK (which includes the emulator)
2. Extract the downloaded zip.
3. Run Terminal, and change to the 'tools' directory of the SDK (or add the tools directory to the path settings in ~/.profile).
4. Type './android list target'
5. Note the 'id' number of the '1.5' target (in my case it's '2')
6. Type './android create avd -n enhanced -t 2' (substitute 2 with the target number determined above if required)
7. You will be prompted to create a hardware profile. This is optional, but I selected 'yes' and accepted the defaults for everything except RAM, where I gave it 256MB.
8. Download your system.img
9. Copy the above file to ~/.android/avd/enhanced.avd/system.img (e.g. if you saved it to and unzipped it to downloads enter 'cp ~/Downloads/system.img ~/.android/avd/enhanced.avd/system.img')
10. You're ready! Type './emulator -avd enhanced' to run! Note: inital boot may take a few minutes!

Ad Away not blocking ads on HTC One

Obviously most are aware Google Play have blocked any ad blocking apps but i had an apk. of AdAway from my Galaxy S3 so i installed it on my One but it does not appear to block all ads like it used to even when i manually update it and reboot there's always ads in certain apps, am i using an older version of this apk. or does anyone else have an alternative apk'. of any ad blocking app i could use, or is it something to do with the phone itself?
Cheers
unless you're running a modified kernel with the protection of /system partitions disabled, your host file gets replaced by default every time you reboot.
I've adblock 2.3 and it works fine, i don't have ads in apps
Which version do you have?
And see if you aren't running a custom kernel with /system partition protection disabled.
Have Trickdroid on my phone so I choose stock kernel as it's the most stable i believe, not ready to flash custom kernel yet as development is still in the early stages, running same version as above stated and not sure it blocks any ads, any other way around this without flashing a custom kernel?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
There's a mod that removes the protection from the stock kernel. It's in the development section.

Ok enabling fastboot hasn't made any difference, rebooted and ads are still showing in apps.
@ gunnyman what's the name of this thing I need to look out for in development section, I'll give this a go.

Adaway working fine here on ARHD8.0. Get f-droid apk, install, search for adaway, install, profit.

Is your phone rooted??

Had better luck with adblock plus than adaway, might want to try that instead.
This was one of the first things I installed (all of yesterday, when I got it).
First thing to note is that you don't have to reboot the phone, despite what the app says. Just activate it and go back to Home screen. In fact, a reboot, as noted above, will undo the effects of Ad-away.
I did notice that it seemed to disable itself at one point today, unless my phone rebooted at some point in my pocket without my knowledge, which would be disconcerting.

I just checked the "help" information in my AdAway app, it sets out instructions for a workaround for HTC S-on devices i.e. how to move the hosts file to data and put a symlink in system...
Think this answers the question in the OP
Per post 12 you can currently get AdAway here either directly or by installing F-Droid market (alternative to Play store)

Aye you can grab it here:
https://adblockplus.org/downloads/adblockplusandroid-1.1.2.apk
If you're on stock ROM and don't want to use any kernel patch to make your /system partition writable, you can flash this little zip through recovery (e.g. CWM) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327934. Does exactly the same as the app (blocking hosts through system's hosts file) but applied via recovery
