[Q]sirius/xm - G Tablet Themes and Apps

Hello all
Anyone having problems loading the sirius/xm app from sirius?
Just sits and updates, wondering if the app is trying to connect to sirius/xm through a 3G or 4G network.. and on the G Tablet running vegantab 7.1.0 do not have 3G/4G network.
Any ideas?
Jim

I've never gotten Sirius/XM to work on the gTab. There was a bug on one of their recent releases where it would show as constantly "checking for updates" on all devices. Whatever it was, it's probably similar to what's happening on the gTab (but I'm no developer). I don't think it's trying to access via cellular because I use Sirius/XM on my phone on wifi all the time. Interestingly, sometimes after I put my phone in airplane mode, Sirius/XM won't work right and just sits there "checking for updates" unless I clear the cache or reboot the phone. Could be related.

"Checking for Updates" is all I get.. so it something related to the tablets .. and not android itself

There is a fix available. Pretty much, the Sirius app looks for the device IMEI number. Since the gTablet doesn't have phone capabilities, it doesn't have an IMEI. There is a patch available that will assign a seudo-IMEI to the ROM (based on serial number). You have to flash the patched ROM, but once that is done, the Sirius app works. HBO-Go also works after applying the patch. I have both working on my gTablet running Vegan-Tab 7.1.
I'm on Tapatalk right now, so I can't search for the thread, but it is on here (XDA) - I believe it is in the Nook forums.

Wifi tether help w/ 2.1

Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to the forums so please bear with me if I'm posting in the wrong spot or totally missed a similar thread.
I just recently decided to go ahead and root my phone after the 2.1 update and before that "security patch" closed the hole. So I successfully rooted my HTC (sprint) hero w/ regaw_leinad's post (awesome help thanks btw).
Everything seems to be running great, but one of the main reasons I attempted to go ahead and root my phone was to use some 3rd party apps, most notably the WIFI Tether app.
It installed correctly and everything looks like great except for it doesn't actually seem to connect to anything. I can see the connection just fine on several laptops and even my ipad sees it. I can connect to it, and I can ping the gateway just fine, but when attempting to actually surf the web, grab email, etc it just doesn't work (shows page cannot be displayed).
I've been following a couple of threads that indicate that the something is just simply wrong with the stock 2.1 HTC ROM that prevents it, and you need to change to a custom ROM to get it to work (I think some people are using the MoDaCo (sp??)).
So I'm definitely not opposed to flashing the ROM. Would you agree that is the issue and if so, what ROM should I flash to?
Thanks in advance!
i have the same problem with the stock rom, rooted
i use wifi tether 1.6
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...il?name=wireless_tether_1_60_htc.apk&can=2&q=
works fine for me on 2.1
Mine connects but without net. I just start up the tether then disable mobile net on the phone then enable it back then works like a charm

Basically, this is a long ass list of different things, but take a look at the bottom post:
Start Wireless Tether
Hold down the red Hang Up button
Tap the last option "Mobile Network to disable my network
Again hold down the red Hang Up button and re-enable my "Mobile Network"
Just confirmed it works - can connect my ipad, mac, pc laptop to it. I'm using a stock 2.1 android that's just been freshly rooted. Spread the word if anyone is having the same trouble.
ah Sim beat me to it
are you using an app off the market or the one on http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether, if so, which version worked for you?
Lol yeah i figured it out yesterday by accident trying to get my laptop going

lol thats slow as he11, must have poor reception usually i can get 1.5 up and .5 down with a 150-300ms ping with good reception.
I had the same problem with the version from the market. I went to the developer's website and there were some newer alternate versions of that app. I installed the one from May 25th (I think) and it works like a charm.
I used the one click root on unrevoked.com to root my Hero
The market version has never worked for me. It actually even says in the notes for the market version there's a new version for the Hero and Legend on the site. That being said, the only one that works for me without disconnecting/reconnecting over and over is 1.60.
"Unable to star tethering. Please try again!"
my hero is definitely rooted i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 awhile ago. I downloaded tether app from google code as posted earlier, but every time i click the green tether it stays start tethering then goes to "Unable to star tethering. Please try again!"
I also tried the hang up button trick as mentioned.
Thanks for your help.
ps. I haven't changed any settings am i supposed to in the Wireless Tether for Root Users? Also is there a specific way to install? I just downloaded by emailing my self url and installing from the device.

[q] pptp vpn

I have a PPTP account with HideIPVPN which works perfectly on my iPod Touch and on my XP computers. It does not work on my Motorola Milestone - the connection is "successful" but no data gets through. At some point on some build of Froyo (I can't remember which), I was quite successfully able to use this VPN on my Nexus One for long extended periods to listen to Pandora Radio.
Recently I tried CyanogenMod 6 RC3, and to my disappointment, I could connect to the VPN but not get any data to go through. So I restored to my nandroid backup on FRF91 (which I'd originally applied via the pre-rooted update.zip). I retried the VPN and it works but after 30-90 seconds the data cuts out and won't work anymore.
Has anyone here had consistent success with a PPTP VPN on FRF91 or CM6 RC3? If so, did you have to do anything special to make it work?
Thanks
Charles
The "cut out" might be related to WiFi keepalive bug. Keep the phone awake and see if the connection still cuts out.

The phone remains awake the whole time. I connect to the VPN and then immediately jump to browser. I load one page and it pulls down successfully. Then I keep clicking links; after the second or third one nothing works anymore, and no apps are able to see data until I disconnect the VPN. This is reproducible.
On my iPod Touch, the same procedure does not have any trouble - I can connect to the VPN and browse for hours.
I located the post on HowardForums where I reported my success with VPN + Pandora on Froyo. It was June 6th, and at that time the latest Froyo build was FRF50.
So I've taken a nandroid backup and I'm going to try a little experiment... roll back to FRF50 via pre-rooted update.zip and see if PPTP works on that build. Don't know if my phone will have a problem with rolling backwards but worst case I can just restore.
Rollback test #1: Didn't clear data/cache first time round. Same results as before, ability to browse cuts out within about 30 seconds of the VPN connection.
Test #2: Wiped cache/data to get a blank (but still rooted) FRF50. Same results again... first page or two I browse to will load but then nothing else will.
Could rooting the phone somehow have destroyed the ability to use a PPTP VPN? So strange, I just can't figure out why it worked in June and not anymore today.
Ah well, since I can't get it working on *any* build right now, might as well go back to CM6 and try out the new stable mod. And I'll keep hoping/wishing/etc for a solution to this problem. Any ideas are welcome.
Well this is interesting. I can't get the VPN to work from my home or office wifi (and it works on both with iPod Touch) - but - when I brought my N1 into a WIND Mobile store and tried their test SIM, I was able to connect to the VPN over 3G just perfectly. The connection didn't stall out and I was able to listen to Pandora through the tunnel. This was using CyanogenMod 6.
I wonder why it's not working on wifi?
Am I the only one who cares about this, or is nobody else experiencing the same bug?
Same problem on the Galaxy S. I think its an Android issue, rather than phone. I understand, though never tested, that it works when doing VPN to a linux box, but never to windows or something like a cisco appliance.
OpenVPN works, but takes a fair amount of messing about to get it working.
On CyanogenMod 6.1 / 6.1.1, I can sometimes stay connected now to a PPTP VPN for 5-15 minutes at a time over Wifi. Not sure when it changed.

[Q] Market killing 3G connection

I have a weird problem with my AT&T galaxy tab. For the past couple of days, each time I launch the Market, my 3G connection is killed and I can no longer access the network, and of course I cannot access the market. As soon as I kill the market app, my 3G connection comes back.
I cleared the data and cache of the market app, did not solve the issue. When I uninstall the updates of the market app (reverting to the original ugly market app), everything works fine, but it then automatically updates itself and the problem comes back. I assume this is a problem with the market app itself and not my device (hopefully).
Has anybody else experienced this issue and found a fix?
I am running stock ROM with third party apps installed enables (done it with superoneclick: root, enable third party apps, unroot).
I have the amazon app store installed, so I can still buy new apps, but I would like to be able to get updates for the apps I have purchased from the market.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What modem are you using? Does the problem happen when you are using wifi? I think the JMF modem that is available for overcome rom is weak and I get many dropped connections and slow data speeds.
I am using the stock ROM and stock modem, I have never flashed a ROM. It only happens with the Market App.
Same issue for me. I have a rooted stock rom.
I have the same issue. Also stock rom and rooted. When WIFI is on (and connected) the market works fine.
I have been beating my head against this since I bought one. I am rooted using....I think I used Super One Click......stock everything else with non-market apps enabled. I originally thought that Root had broken it; however, if I unrooted, reset to factory, I still had the issue.
After many hours at the ATT store and on the phone (and swapping the device once and SIM card twice) I had an epiphany. a Factory Reset does NOT wipe the Internal SD like I thought it did. It leaves /mnt/sdcard/ intact. So, just for kicks, I began looking at my folders here. I MAY have discovered something. Market started working after I restored this folder to it's factory content (deleted any folders having to do with Apps in general).
I can typically hold power, deactivate Data connection, wait a few seconds, re-enable, and I get 3g back (at least for browser and other apps, Market still fails).
I have PSX4Droid installed (PSX Emulator if you don't know). There is a folder here named /.psx4droid, so I renamed it to /psx4droid (If I remember correctly, doesn't the "." hide the folder......too long since Linux class). I then deactivated/reactivated my data, and the Market started working properly.
I am not sure if it has to do SPECIFICALLY with psx4droid or just the "Hidden" folder in general, but now my Market works. I have 2 more folders in this location (/.downloadTemp and /.FileExpert) that may/may not cause any problems. I will post my findings.
.....Okay, so I'm going to type what I write now....Market just failed. Now I'm renaming /.FileExpert....Let's see what happens......
Damn. Still fails. But I'm tellin' ya. There is something in this folder causing it.
Or maybe some app is causing it to break......I have Amazon App store installed, what about you guys?
I do have Amazon App installed.
Anybody with an AT&T Tab not having the issue?
Same issue here. I had the Amazon Appstore installed but uninstalled it probably a week afterwards. Rooted running stock, everytime I go into the market it crashes the 3g. I found a folder in sdcard/android/data that had a bunch of appstore files in it. I deleted that and still having the same issue. I have removed all 3rd party apps so I have no idea what is triggering this. Please help.
P.S. I can access the market on WiFi
This also happens to be sometimes, if you tap wifi on then off again your 3g should come back and work fine.
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
Unfortunately what you proposed did not work. The market is killing the network connection each and every time. The network connection only comes back when the market app is not active anymore.
Since everything works fine when the market upgrades are uninstalled, I really think it is a bug in the newer version of market. Hopefully, the next update will fix this.
Maybe when Gingerbread is out!
I'm thinking this has more to do with us having installed amazon appstore before it was supposed to be. Somebody is mad at us
Has anyone made any progress on this situation?

I really wish I would have made more progress. After all the trouble I had with the device with this issue, I was seriously monitoring the apps I installed and then testing the Market. I gave up after a while since I am on Wifi 90% of the time and hardly ever do I access the Market while driving. I still have a feeling that something in /mnt/sdcard is causing it. Like I had mentioned, I could wipe back to factory and the problem was still there. I seem to remember that it only started working proper after I had cleared this location of crap. I would think that a Market update would see a larger group of affected tabs than just a handful of us. This doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
That being said......I have decided to move on to Gingerbread. Maybe that'll fix it
Hey guys, try this. Worked for me and my Data problems with Gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13751694&postcount=6
Basically create a new APN inside Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Only set the APN to "Broadband," save it (Menu button) and select the radio button for it. Instantly fixed my data issues.
Thank for the tip. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I am running stock 2.2 and waiting for the official 2.3 update from AT&T.
Good Luck. I thought about waiting for the official.....but I also have a Captivate. We didn't get 2.2 until MONTHS after the rest of the world (I think it was like 5 or 6 months later). I didn't want to wait that long again.

Could you please report if the problem fixed with Gingerbread ?
At first I didn't have ANY cellular data until I created a new APN mentioned in the tagged thread (APN Broadband). Now I have no issues with Market. I wish I could trust AT&T to release Gingerbread in a timely fashion, but I know better. So instead, I flashed Overcome.
P.S. I really can't enough of the CRT lock animation......damn I'm such a geek....

Netflix and (Original) Droid w only WIFI - error?

Hi,
I just got an old (original) Motorola Droid from my son. It was was taken out of service, so it's got no phone service, just WIFI. He flashed it to 2.2 before he gave it to me.
Almost everything seems to work ok on it: I can connect to my WIFI network, browse, etc. Market works, Flash works after I installed from Market.
I installed Netflix from the Market, and it starts up ok, but then I get a popup error that says:
"Please make sure that your device has network connectivity and the Date and Time settings are accurate."
and it kind of just hangs the Netflix app at that point.
Does anyone know what the problem might be, and how to get Netflix working in this case?
I'm guessing that it might be looking for a phone network connection or something?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi,
My son has a friend with a same (original) Droid, with the same firmware, but his phone is still active on Verizon, and he's able to get Netflix app to work on it.
He (my son) said that he thinks that he has another friend that also has a Droid that's deactivated, and he's going to ask him to try to see if Netflix will work on that.
If that latter doesn't work and get that same error message, I'm guessing that it's, as I mentioned above, trying to connect to Netflix via the 3G, rather than over the WIFI.
Anyone know if it's possible to get the Netflix app to use only WIFI?
I had a similar problem with Sipdroid this weekend when I tried to get that to work. It actually, at one point, connected me to a Verizon operator, presumably over the Verizon wireless network. Sipdroid has a configuration setting that allows you to tell it to use only WIFI, and once I set that, Sipdroid worked ok over WIFI. I think that I need to find some kind of setting in the Netflix app to do something similar.
Jim
Hi,
I just got off the phone with Netflix support. I don't know if the person that I spoke to actually knew what he was saying, but he said that the Droid is not "on their list of supported phones", so according to him, it would then try to "connect to their website".
I didn't think that I needed the build.prop changes, because I'm not getting an "unsupported device" message, plus, like I said, my son's friend has it working on his identical (except it's still on Verizon) phone, but I'm going to try some of those build.prop hacks, to see if that makes a difference.
Jim
Hi,
For the record, no joy with changing the build.prop. That seems to be ineffective.
So, I'm still stuck on this...
Anyone?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi,
I had left the phone on the Netflix error screen and it went to sleep last night, and when I woke up this a.m., and woke it, there was a different msg saying that it couldn't access some web site.
So, I started thinking that it was a firewall problem, and I put the phone's IP address in my router's DMZ, and VOILA!!
Got Netflix !!

[Q] WiFi Tether Won't Work (even with correct settings)?

I'm running OMJ's ROM and using WiFi Tether TrevE Mod "Version 3.2-beta-modv5-***Synergized***"
Okay so even with the settings that everyone recommends for the HTCone, and a few modifications, I still cannot get the blasted thing to work.
Settings I've tried:
Profile: Generic ICS/JB(wlan0)
Setup-Method: Auto
Encryption ON (p/w is the correct format AFAIK, about 12 lowercase letters no numbers, similar to the default)
Changed SSID to "HTCone" no spaces
Wifi Driver Reload (1) checked
MSS Clamping checked
Routing Fix checked
With those settings, I can't even get it to broadcast. It says it's running but no devices can find it. It simply isn't there.
If I disable Wifi Driver Reload (1) it begins broadcasting. However, when I attempt to connect, the second device just sits there at "Obtaining IP Address..." for about 90 seconds then retries and gets stuck at "Authenticating" then back. An endless loop never resulting in a connection.
The most frustrating thing about this is that it was JUST working the day before. I didn't touch ANYTHING and it just decided to take a dump.
Addendum: I was looking at the notes in the bottom of the ABOUT screen and I noticed the updates are quite old. Is it possible I have an old version that doesn't work with the HTC One? I got it from QBKING77's website.
Happened to me and don't have an answer. I wiped and didn't restore anything to resolve it. Restoring data broke it again.

I had no luck wiping the phone and re-installing the ROM. It was still FUBAR after the fresh flash of OMJ. What drives me NUTS about that is the fact that it was JUST working not 12hrs before it stopped working.
To give some more information as to the issue, it appears that checking either one (or both) of the Force Driver options causes it to not broadcast at all. If either of those two are checked, the hotspot isn't even visible to any device. If left unchecked, the hotspot becomes visible. However, upon trying to connect to the hotspot, it gets stuck in a loop of "Authenticating..." then "Obtaining IP address" which never results in a connection.
I've tried the options listed in that guide you posted, but to no avail.
So, at this point, I'm wondering if it's just because I'm using an outdated WiFi hotspot app. If anyone has one that's been updated since a little under a year ago, I'd appreciate a link. Thanks!

Not sure which one you are using but I'm using the one right from the Play Store v3.3 beta 2. You can also get it from here. I just went back to SWG 1.18 from a 4.2.2 ROM and reinstalled and all is good. Everything connects just fine using those settings from the link I posted earlier.

In the first post I listed which version I was using. Unfortunately, even the newest version fails to work. I don't get this. Maybe it has something to do with the OMJ ROM and how close to stock it is. Perhaps I should try a different ROM.
This is a far cry from the CM7 ROM I had on my EVO which allowed me to tether perfectly all the time without the hassle. Maybe I'll try CM again on my One.
I'm gonna download & flash OMJ's ROM & see if I can recreate it. You running the latest version right?

Sorry. I downloaded the latest yesterday but was playing around with flex's & hawk's 4.2.2 ports. I'm about to flash in a couple mins and will post my results.
Similar issue here
I'm having issues with wifi tether on my HTC One, as well. I can tell you that if you set the Device-Profile to "Auto," it will create an ad-hoc connection that my Windows 7/Ubuntu Studio desktop will recognize. Ubuntu recognizes it as a regular wifi hotspot, and connects automatically. Windows recognizes it as an ad-hoc connection, and I have to connect manually. My Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 does not see the connection at all, and neither does my LG Blu-Ray player. If I change the profile to Generic ICS/JB (wlan 1), then other devices see the connection, and will even attempt to connect to it, but there is never a successful connection with internet access. If I choose Generic ICS/JB (wlan 0), then nothing sees it as a viable connection. I am running the stock sense ROM, and have done no updates (so I'm still at JB 4.1). I can tell you that wifi tether errors frequently for me, and I have to reboot quite a lot. If I leave my phone broadcasting overnight, then in the morning wifi tether thinks that I don't have root, and gives me the "your phone is in an unknown state" error message; at that point, the only way to stop the wifi is to reboot.
So, I can make it work, for a limited number of devices. I would like to use it as a wifi connection for my tablet and my Blu-Ray player, however. I have searched quite a bit to try to figure this out, and I haven't been able to find a reliable answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I got mine to work. Can surf the web, check email, etc. now the damn thing will not stream video. I am connected to 4g and speed test on my ipad verify it but won't stream. Pisses me off.

Try to go to advanced settings at the upper right portion of the settings. Then click LAN Settings > Reset to default settings. I have the same problem with you. I've tried it and it worked.
