Hi, since the only way to get gingerbread rooted is from reddy's repack, I noticed that me may have all the same MAC address 70:05:14:66:xx:xx.
My "genuine" mac was 74:xxxwhatever".
On v10C (I think) I was able to change it on file /system/etc/wifi/nvram.txt
But no longer works.
Any other way to rewrite it?
thanks
do you have any backup of your previous FW??
its unusual that a Rom changes your MAC Adress, cuz Mac is a unique number!! :S
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA" WIFI mac address may be unset on the device. At least with the original LG ROM, the static, hardcoded MAC from nvram.txt that comes with the firmware is used in case the mac is unset. To fix this:
1. Connect USB cable. 2. Enter hidden menu in phone app (see below).
3. Select: AP CP USB Switching/CP USB.
4. Open a serial com prog on that device (hyperterminal on xp or hyperterminal private on others from the net)
1. at%mac: shows wifi mac;if this shows no value, it's unset
2. at%mac=c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c: Setwifi mac.
3. [ at%btad: show bluetooth mac. ]
4. [ at%btad=c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c: Set bt mac ]
Instead of "c" write values

Mac address is a permanent address hard coded into the phone's hardware, or any wireless device's hardware for that matter.. Each wireless device in the world has its own unique mac address, just as each computer's bios has its own unique code..
You cannot change your device's mac address..

I started to grant SuperUser rights to my terminal app . After this, i started with the command "busybox iplink show eth0" and received the following error message:
iplink: can't find device "eth0"
Additionally tried the other command (with eth0) and there is the following error message:
ifconfig: SIOCSIFHWADD: No such device
Im using a Samsung I9000 with root access and all root-related apps already have root access all in all.
Even when Im typing ":su" or ":busybox ~", the device means:
sh: :busybox: not found
I don't get it, the terminal can work without these colons but the "eth0" could not be found, too
Any hints/tipps? Would be great, thank you

At first, thanks for the fast reply and I think your right..
..but at least, I already tried "Wlan0"
It seems, that the command (including wlan0) could be executed and I'm also able to display the wlan0 settings by typing: busybox iplink show
All related content is displayed including the "wlan0". The recently added mac-adress is successfully taken at this point (xx:xx:xx~ instead of the original one) and could be displayed there but even when im checking for the MAC adress in my android wlan settings, there is still the old one and my smartphone still connects with the old MAC to my gateway
I'm not sure then sorry will have to see if anyone else knows how

I have an original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and am having trouble connecting to my wireless network, as my router is set (on purpose) to channel 13. Due to congestion, I am unable to select a different channel (1-11).
Is there anything I can do to enable my GT-P9000 to support Channel 13? It's rooted & running CyanogenMod + cdesai's Jelly-Bean ROM (cm-10-20120730-EXPERIMENTAL-p1-cdesai). All my other devices (iPad/iPhone) appear to support Channel 13, so I just need to get this working now.
I'm sure it's probably just a matter of setting the device to support EU WiFi standards, but am unsure how to do this....
Any ideas?

Success!!
I solved my own question, for those stumbling across this thread, simply do the following :-
1. Install SSHDroid on the device
2. Install PuTTy on your computer (SSH terminal emulator)
3. Connect to your device by entering the HOSTNAME or IP address into PuTTy
4. Login using user=root password=admin
5. Paste the following command into the terminal :-
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name, value) VALUES ('wifi_country_code', 'EU');"
6. Restart wifi or Reboot device
I am now able to see my WiFi network on Channel 13 using WiFi Analyzer (a very useful app by the way).
Can't you just run terminal app rather than SSH from PC?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
''Wifix manager'' can set this without using the scripts, just type in the advanced ''EU'' or whatever country code you want.

Hi everyone,
I appreciate any help you can give "the newbie" here.
I swear I'm not a total moron, but I can't get this to work. I've tried searching the forums and google, and I've found posts with similar problems, but no solutions. Until I can get another computer to test this on, I don't know if the problem is with my Droid Bionic (unrooted, running JB stock 4.1.2), or my computer (Mac OSX 10.8.3) or my modem.
I would LOVE to root my phone, but I can't even get the darned thing to connect to my computer through the file app!
The phone is on the same wifi network as my computer. Both have no trouble accessing the internet. Both can ping each other (packets sent and received fine). But I can't connect one to the other.
I turn on file sharing on my computer with SMB only
select a folder on my computer to share
Assign a user and password permission to access that folder
make sure permissions for that folder are set to read and write
then go to my phone, open the stock file app
Select "Remote Storages" and "add storage"
Then I enter the IP address for the computer
WORKGROUP for the domain name
The name of the shared folder
The user name and password
then I try to connect.
And I get an alert box on the phone that says
"Network Error
There is a problem in your network connection with remote host. Please repair your network connection and try again."
I'm doing everything that's obvious to do, so I'm guessing there's something "not obvious" that I'm missing. - Anyone here had a similar problem and solved it?
Some things I've tried:
Moving the shared folder to different directories including root, desktop, and "public folder" (each time I moved it, I removed it from the shared list and re-added it)
Creating a guest account and allowing it access to the shared folder - no password needed
Creating a 2nd admin account and allowing it access to shared folders (password)
Turning off computer's firewall
Seeing if I could connect through the computer and phone's browsers (no go!)
Lots of turning things on and off (sharing, users, permissions, wireless...etc.)
Gone into recovery mode on the phone and done a factory reset and wiped the cache partition.
When I check my modem's admin page, I can see both the computer and phone listed there as connected devices. The modem sees them both, and they can ping each other. Why the heck can't I connect them to each other?
Oh, and though I don't think this is relevant, when I connect via cable in USB Storage mode, I can see the internal and external cards on my Mac just fine. They both mount as drives and I can drag stuff back and forth. - Wish I could find instructions to root THAT way!
I finally get the nerve to try to root this and get it on TMobile, and I can't get past the part that should be a no-brainer!
Any help would be appreciated.

-------------
Editing on 1/8/14 to add that the problem may be related to a Samba issue in OSX Mountain Lion. I'm also wondering if it could be an issue with my modem, which is several years old. I'm going away for about a week so I may try this on a friend's computer. I'll report back WHEN I am successful with this (because I will be!)
Can't root through Mac Mountain Lion. Use Easy Root in VB
Replying to my own post, to follow up. I was unable to connect through samba on my mac running Mountain Lion, while at a friend's house. So the problem was not the modem, but my OS itself.
I'd read that Easy Root ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256439 ) using Virtual Box hadn't worked on a Mac, but I decided to try it anyway. I had to change one setting in Virtual Box from NVidia to "en1: Wi-Fi (AirPort)", and then the Easy Root worked flawlessly. When it got to the part about connecting the Bionic to the Remote Storage folder, I thought "Here we go... this is the part that won't work!" but with Easy Root running in Virtual Box, the bionic connected to the shared folder perfectly.
Mac users with Mountain Lion or above, use Easy Root in Virtual Box to root your Droid Bionic running Jellybean 4.1.2 (here's the link again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256439 ). I know there are posts by people who were able to root their droids through the Mac terminal, but I'm guessing they were on an older OS where smb still worked correctly.

Can you please elaborate this line which mentioned ! .. its bit confusing to me
"When the notification COM port searching and preloader handshake... appears,Unplug the the devices and turn it off, don’t press the power button, connect your phone and PC with USB wire. "
Thank you for this tutorial, just what I need. Step 1 is to see what your current MAC address is and write it down. However my MAC adress changes with every factory reset I make. How do I know for sure what my hardware MAC address is?

You don't need to know what is your "exact" mac address (it should be writed in factory....but they don't).
You can simply use one of the random ones generated from your phone(best way) or go to THIS SITE and get one..

Hi Arcatarc,
I've the same problem, writing to nvram is ok, deleting folder is ok but still have random mac address whenever I on/off wifi.
Could you give offset in file where MAC is stored, I'll try to place correct address by hexedit.
Is it storred in wifi or wifi_custom?
Guys,
After two days I think, that I've found the solution - permanent
What is important:
- files: wifi & wifi_custom must have rights: r-- r-- r-- (see photo)
- owner & guid must be empty (see photo)
- need 2 apps: hex editor & es file explorer installed
- the most important thing is correct MAC ADDRESS, it must start with 000820XXXXXX use online generators like:
http://www.miniwebtool.com/mac-address-generator/
So, what we need to do:
1. Important - (Turn ON WIFI), delete files "WIFI" & "WIFI_custom" from folder "data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB/" to have them recreated with correct owner & guid rights after restart.
2. Restart phone.
3. Turn off wifi.
4. Use hex editor to edit file or better mobileuncle tools (engineer mode ->(MTK)-> connectivity menu-> wifi ->nvram). Look at attached photos, You will need to insert own MAC address to file. You have two ways:
- by Mobileuncle under "Byte String Access" set
addr value "4"
length value 6
Press "Read", should show you some random generated mac address, delete it and place your new valid MAC Address & press "Write".
That should save your new mac, you can check if that was saved by pressing "Read", should show you your new mac address.
- by Hex editor (give it root rights in options) and open "WIFI" file, go to offset $4 and insert your new mac address & save file. (see photo)
5. We need to set correct rights on both files "WIFI" & "WIFI_custom". I've used "es files explorer" and set all only as Readable. Remember do this on both files. Don't change owner & guid rights, must be blank.
PS.
I've messing around quite long, so I hope that I wrote the steps in correct order. If that doesn't work, try to turn on wifi after saving new mac address, or restarting between some steps etc.
I've used mobileuncle but I know that some of you had problem, so I've wrote the hex editor way.

I installed BusyBox and Terminal Emulator, but i am unable to change the Wi-Fi MAC. Somehow i managed to change the ethernet MAC, however it is still being listed as the fake MAC in wifi mac changer application. The wifi mac is listed as the real MAC in the app, which i want to change. Any help is appreciated....

Not sure which methods you've tried so far, but I found this method, I haven't tested it, so try at your own risk:
1. As you already have busybox and terminal installed, open a root shell in terminal (run "su" and grant access) note that all the following commands MUST be run as root
2. Run "busybox iplink show eth0" which will show your current Mac address, write it down in case you want/need to revert back
3. Run "busybox ifconfig eth0 hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX" where XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX is replaced with your desired mac address
4. Run "busybox iplink show eth0" again to check if it did update
tried that...it doesn't work....moreover eth0 shows only the ethernet mac and not the wifi mac....i even verified this with device id app....wifi and ethernet MACs are different where ethernet mac is listed as fake mac and wifi mac is listed as the real mac in the wifi mac changer app.....
Anyone found solution to change wi-fi mac on rooted bluestacks?
I've already tried everything. It's impossible.
with root and expose - or with bstweak and a lot of installs you can make fake wifi to work; and type there your mac and other wifi name and fake bcid etc;
and looks like is possible to simulate all real device ids or most of them
play whole day and changes most of things; deviceid; fingerprint details;
now stack tofind free app for gsf id and hardware serial;
