So I've been scouring the forums trying to find an easy way to get the SD card CID to create a goldcard but most failed for me or I'm not doing it right. Anyway, I remembered downloading a program called "wp2USB" that allows Windows to see your phone as a USB storage device, though the implementation ain't perfect. But one thing I noticed is that by right clicking the device and going to properties it shows a serial number which seems to match up to a proper SD card CID!
So, what I need a few other HD7 owners to confirm is whether the displayed SD card CID belongs to their phone or just some precise/random number generated by the program itself. I mean, if the number is real then it could simplify the goldcard creating process for HD7 owners, and even other WP7 owners as well!! No more need for Nokia phones or earlier WM phones or Android phones
My SD card CID: c479...4491
BTW, like I said, the program isn't perfect. After running the program, clicking "Display phones" or "Restore default" will be followed by 2 confirmation messages followed by an instance error. It's ok, just ignore it. Then you may have to refresh your Windows Explorer window for the phone to show up in My Computer. And yes, I don't know why 2 instances of the same device show up, but I only care about the SD card CID.
So please confirm for me if the serial number shown is real or some random number, thanks.
Ignore post
Ok, I figured out that I'm supposed to make a goldcard out of another memory card and NOT the one inside the WP7 phone. So all the above is irrelevant and unnecessary.

I searched the forums and, while seeing several messages about fixing USB ports, I never saw a question like this. If this is a repeat and I missed it, I'll happily go my merry way if someone would kindly point me to the link.
The USB port on my Tilt gave up the ghost after becoming increasingly more finicky about charging and syncing over the last few months. I'm out of warranty and got AT&T to upgrade me to the Fuze since they no longer sell/replace the Tilt.
Now, my issue is...how do I move my contacts, etc. over to the new phone? I immediately ran Sprite Backup and turned my phone off as soon as I discovered I could no longer charge it (to preserve what little battery life, ~40%, I may have left). I know, or strongly suspect, the backup file is useless on the Fuze; so now I have to figure out how to get my data to the new phone given I have a limited window to install and/or do anything with this phone before it dies.
I know I could spend money and fix the port ($80) or buy a cradle with a battery charger ($40). Is there any other option that doesn't involve spending money on my old phone, i.e. software that can be used on the new one or...even better, something free I can do?
For starters, I'd buzz the contacts over the the sim card

As for the backup, could you possibly put in a flash card and load the backup or whatever else you wanted to save to the card ?
what about using the SD card as a "shuttle"?

assumptions:
1. you have a microSD card
2. it is a reasonably sized microSD card with enough free space
3. you have a pc/laptop with a card reader as well as an internet connection
pop in the microSD card into your desktop/laptop...download PIMBackup (search for it on xda) and put the installable on the microSD card. download any other cabs of backup programs you might need and put them on the microSD card
Step A:
pop in the microSD card into your tilt...install and run PIMBackup to take care of items like contacts, messages, etc. make sure you save the output archive file on the microSD card. now using the Windows Mobile File Explorer, copy the contents of "\My Documents" (and any other data on your device file system) to "\Storage Card".
Step B:
remove the microSD card from the tilt and pop it into your fuze...install and run PIMBackup on the fuze and restore the archive you created on the tilt to the fuze. if there are some files that were originally on your tilt's file system that you want to keep on the fuze's file system, copy them back from "\Storage Card" to "\My Documents" (or relevant location) on your fuze (assuming you copied these said files from the tilt in Step A above).
thats it!!!
My SD card has started acting up on me. Recently, a ton of folders with gibberish symbol names showed up. I can't delete these folders in either my phone or my PC. These folders have nothing in them. I can't transfer files to or from it. While in my computer, the card window will occasionally freeze and tell me the thing has stopped responding. I have made sure the lock switch is open on the adapter. I'd like to flash a new ROM but the card won't even open in my PC. Says I need to format it before I can use it, but no method (freeware, Explorer, CMD) will work. I get thrown messages about how it won't work or whatever. In fact, I was trying diskmgmt.msc while typing this earlier but I got a BSOD memory dump. First time I've had one on this PC. Anyway, anyone know what I can do? I just want it to work, I paid a lot for this card. I have a feeling it's because I let the device format it, but I dunno. IF it helps, I'm running Win7 x64. Thanks.
Like you said, your MicroSD is probably done for. You might try to format it using your PC. But it probably won't work.
Some manufacturers offer lifetime warranty on flash memory so you might be able to swap it for a new one since this obviously isn't your fault. I've done so with at least two memory cards before (but then again I'm from Europe so it might be different for me).
I'm on my second MicroSD card, after I started getting warnings that certain files couldn't be accessed.
Actually, the second one (both are 8gb: first was a SanDisk, 2nd is a Kingston) gave me a warning yesterday.
Never has this problem with other phones... I don't know if the MicroSD format is prone to this sort of thing, or it is an interaction with the X1 - but it doesn't inspire confidence.
I think I will do a weekly copy of all files from the card onto my PC.
ok well im trying to clean off my 8 gb micro sd card so im copying all the files to my desktop, well every so often i get the error "cannot convert file(random file) reached the end of the file" iv tried changing the name, file type, the only thing i can do is delete it or leave it, now i can run the cab file and it works fine from my phone. Iv tried to use my usb card reader and tower card reader but niether will even read my card, anyone have any ideas on why this is happening &/ or have to fix this, iv had the card for a couple years and never any problems and this tilt almost a year any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated , thanks
btw i just noticed something new why is this [OP] next to some names and icons now, didnt notice it before
the "[OP]" next to a person's name within a thread being viewed indicates that this person started the thread you are viewing, i.e. he/she is the "original poster" or some such.
regarding your problem, i assume you are stuck with using activesync to access your microsd card (because you say no card reader will read the card)? when microsd cards start acting up, most people will suggest sticking it into your pc via a card reader to copy files and run data recovery software and to eventually reformat the card. once again, i am assuming this is out of the question because your card readers will not see the data on the card.
activesync's file system access is sufficient but not very flexible and fairly poor. i have noticed that the remote desktop client on windows mobile is able to make your device's microsd card available to the pc you are connected to via remote desktop during the entire session. you might want to attempt a copy via this kind of a connection.
another alternate is to try "schap's network plugin". this will allow you to map a folder shared on your pc (remember to give this folder full write access) onto your device's \Network folder. then you can freely copy/paste stuff to/from your pc using the device's file explorer.
final option is to copy problematic files on to your device's memory and see if activesync is able to read from the device's memory. this is really only feasible if the largest problematic file can fit into the limited free space available on the device's memory.
when you are completely done and satisfied with the files you have recovered, stick the card back into the card readers connected to your pc and see if you can get the card reformatted while its in there even though the current file system/data on the card is not being detected.
finally, remember that most microsd cards (like nearly all other things) have a limited life...so maybe the card just needs to be replaced with a spanking new one now.
My unbranded htc hd7 has been working perfectly for a couple of weeks now, but recently started to have problems. I switched it on after changing sim cards (which i believe i did perfectly, didnt drop or do anything wrong) and it then says..."storage card cannot be read", not allowing me to go any further. I then try to hard reset the phone, which gets the phone to start up with no problem, but now says it only has 12.5mb of storage available (my sd is 16GB, and is the same one issued with the phone).
I've already counted my losses with the stuff i had on it and i'm willing to format the SD card if it means fixing this issue. But Is there a way to fix this via bootloader or something else that will not void my warranty by me having to physically dissasemble it. Your input is very very much appreciated...
There is an option in Zune which lets you wipe all your data on the sd card:
Settings\Phone\Synchronization Options
Nah that didnt seem to work. When i click on erase, it erases the 12.5mb doesnt seem to find the sd card
Sounds like the SD card has become unseated or corrupt somehow
Let me know if you find a way of formatting the SD card without removing it.

Thanks for your input.
I suspected the same thing, so i removed the back cover and the battery, then used a "caveman fixing tactic" of banging the bottom part of my phone with my hand (didnt want to damage it by hitting it with something harder and again didnt want to open it), and its working. Tried banging it again after that to see if it will stop working again but seems to be fine now.
I know this is just a minor (silly) fix and will go to htc to complain about this fault and see if its loose in there because i've never hit the phone hard before this (besides hitting on my hand of course, which is the first and last time i'm doing it) and nor have i ever dropped it. I still havent ruled out the possibility of a faulty sd card, or an error that seems to be appearing with others after the recent NoDo Update.
hd7 sd card issue
I have exactly same issue, the first time (from new) i turned on it did see the sd card and then i inserted a SIM and did a reset and now it just reports 12.5Mb memory always. I have opened it, voiding warranty to remove the 16gig sandisk card and re-insert it many times but still doesn't see it and yet never reports any error like 'cannot detect sd card'. Next i flashed from O2 to a unbranded ROM (from this forum) and still the same and now doesn't even detects the SIM! Next i tried a new 1gig sandisk card.. still does see it (not sure format is required for wp7).. the orignal 16gig card cannot be read or formated on a PC tried using a pc dos format, low level format, sd format programs but pc never assigns drive letter to it.. so hd7 is scrap unless someone can suggest something to resolve.. i suspect the SD card interface from phone is faulty.. gona try the banging on table method next and hope is smashes to bits put it out of its misery!
Had the same issue with my phone. now stuck in bootloader mode. now have given up and using lg optimus one.
Mine is doing the same thing only showing 12mb even with the stock sd card. Did anyone ever get this fixed?
What version of WP do you guys are on? I noticed after each update, the system seems to grab more space on the card. That said, there is a option in Zune settings to change the available storage via slider, may be you have got that set to 12gb somehow... May be try to change it and c what happens then. I personally don't have this problem, even after modifying my hd7 so I can swap sd cards as needed (hard reset required but kind of useful)
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I modded my hd7, too. But I never had this problem.
Did you mod with goldcard method or hspal/rspal???
the sdcard has password on it and can only be read through the phone unless you somehow did something to file system and lost the password than you can fix it.
Fix 12 MB
it fix my sd
enjoy your HD7

Hello, I can't seem to find anything related to this on google or your wonderfull website ( thanks to you folks i was able to root my htc desire and install cyanogenmod, as well as unlock it from the network), any way to the point, I switched network providers because ive had it with telus, long story short, i went to bell and had to get a new phone, so i tried this htc hd7, n i kick myself in the teeth, but im stuck with it now... n now that i can use my desire on any network, i popped my bell sim in and am using that, so, i want to use the 16 gb class 4 sandisk sd card out of the hd7 in my htc desire, windows doesnt recognize it, nor does kubuntu, and nor does the format utility windows comes with, the format fails... and of course the phone wont read it or format it through recovery or in OS, ive also tried a program called low level format tool, it sees it, but results in multiple errors when formatting, any thoughts?
you need a Nokia phone to format it. The SD card is locked.
Does it need to be a specific model? The only nokia device i have is an air card for my laptop and theres no memory card settings, i think i have a couple buddies that own nokia phones though, damn windows phail 7

You must have not looked on Google very hard:
"format WP7 SD card"
Actually, thats the first thing i searched, which is also how i discovered the low level format utility, you can have absolute faith i've searched anything i could think of and explored multiple options that i could think of, including a kodak easy share c183 (fairly new digital camera) and multiple sd card recovery applications designed for digital cameras, ive tried using linux and both windows/linux OS disks, im thinking, now that the bootloader has been exploited for the the hd7, if i can port either kubuntu mobile or some third party android build to it, i would gain access to the card, then mess around with that, but theres gotta be some way i can format this bugger. ive also come across the thread that includes using the nokia phone, but i dont have one. this is the only other thing i could find besides the llft, is there anyone else out there that has wanted to use there 16 gigger out of the hd7 for some other device after upgrading to a 32gb card? i have skimmed these forums as well and turned up nothing
well i just came across this post and aim on the same boat... i have 4 16g and going crazy i will hate to see this 4 16 sd go to trash... just cause mocosoft have play bad with us.....
ps just like guitarjunkie i have try all i can think-off
well im going to render this question unasnwerable i think for the time being, until we can find an application that works, if there wll ever be such a time, i will keep posted if i find one, thank you almostinsane for your time and input about the nokia phone, and to my boys from microsoft, blast you all, creators of wp7 to eternal damnation! @#$%&*(random curse words) power to the linux community!
Hmmm my friend formatted his memory, but no longer has the software that he did that with... =\
Try this:
http://www.pendriveapps.com/format-fat32-larger-than-32gb/
If it failed try:
http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/
Try the whole re-initialization thing...
If both failed, try to find something else which can destroy the partition table for the memory, then rebuild it using Disk Manager.
