hi all , my battery dies very very fast!
i just got my phone , the retailer replaced my old phone with a new one and i rooted it , flashed with Ginger xperia v22 and use launcher 360 and the battery dies so darn quick ...it 's about 3% a minute when i use the market ...i closed auto rotate , 10% brightness , use 2G , no gps no nothing and the battery is dying so fast ..and when i restart it went from 44% to 15% in a heartbeat..any help?? oh and i put my setcpu to 600mhz performance ...
subtopic how do you overclock your x8 according to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020313
i got lost from
- Remount /system as rw
- Push x8oc.ko in to /system/lib/modules
- Edit /system/etc/hw_config.sh, add one line at the beginning
i don't get it ...
help pls =(
-tohno the magnet for problem
discharge yours batery to low then 20% then charge to 100% do not of charger and reboot to recowery wipe batery stat boot up and wait again too 100 % for me that works
1 charge your battery to 100%
2 unplug the charger
3 restart phone go to CWM/XRec and do battery reset stats
4 get your phone to 0% battery
5 recharge it to 100%
6 when you have 15% start charging it ! (dont leave your battery to 0%)
7. repeat steps 5 and 6 for the rest of your phone's life
this is the calibration process
done it...my battery life is a little odd...when i slept the battery was 75% after 6hours still 75% ..great! but when i use it for 10minutes it dropped to 68% ..so fast...
For overclocking,
-get rootexplorer or any file manager that is capable of read/write system files.
-get x8oc.ko
-copy n paste into /system/lib/modules/
-set permission to rw-rw-r--
-edit hw_config, add line insmod /system/lib/modules before battery fix command
-use setcpu from market or
-add line echo "xAB" > /proc/x8oc to adjust cpu EVERY TIME YOU BOOT.
-where ur AB is multiples interger.... See original post.
-you also can set cpu speed in cyanogen setting if supported

same happened to me.. battery was 62% before going to sleep, 61% when i woke up and spoke 4min at my phone -> battery 58%
Same here, when I first receive my X8, I search on youtube for X8 Rom, then I stumbled upon a video showing X8 running V 2.3.7 using GingerXperia..
Then I tried it to my phone, and I was satisfied with the feature... So I dig on the source of GingerXperia, then I saw the V22, I found out that my GX was V10, So I tried to use the V22, before I go to sleep I set the phone to airplane mode, at my surprise the phone died battery is out... Wow I didnt experience this on V10. I tried to full charge the phone, at 100%.. Im browsing my files, and install, after 5mins battery drop to 90% wow... So I decide to back to my GingerXperia V10... and now Im still searching for the best ROM and killed my phone 2 times upon testing some ROM, as of now my favorite still the GingerXperia...
This kind of battery drain is because of GPS. I'll explain:
If you install a ROM, the GPS is enabled at first boot. I think everyone's first thing is to disable it. So, after you disable the GPS, it will start to eat the battery, I don't know why. You have to restart phone with GPS disabled and the battery will be back to normal. Note that it will happen everytime you turn on and off the GPS. It happened to me on GingerDX with Alfs kernel, but on kuyaDroid and alfs it is not happening. Hope I helped you a little.

Calibrate your battery when you think it's miscalibrated.
Requirements: Android 2.1+ | Root permissions
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.

You need to give more info then that.
What version of rom you using?
Which kernel/version you using?
What apps have you installed?
Do you use wifi/gps?
Did you use search before creating topic?
btw, you dont need to manually type [q] in your title. "[Q]" automatically gets added when you enable the "Is this a question" feature when creating topic.

anyways thanks for ur reply .

I have actually noticed a decline in battery life since I flashed to Overcome. In the few days, before I flashed my tab, I could idle the tab for 10 hours and use like 2% battery. After flashing overcome, I cant get no where near that idle time, and I get just under 10% per hour full usage (games or video playback).
I'm using Overcome 1.6.1, no live backgrounds, and somewhere around 85 apps.

Strange, Ive never had a battery issue on any of the builds, even when overclocked. Its got to be something you have installed and running in background.
Go to settings>phone>about>battery use and it will tell you what using most battery. There is also programs like SystemPanel or Taskkiller etc.
If the [Q] wasn't capitalised then you must have tried to title your topic all i capitals so site reversed it, next time title topics properly

any ideas
I never got any problems with the battery life in all Overcome roms.
Currently i use Overcome 1.6.1 with 2.1.4 kernel and battery life is good.
Idle overnight with WiFi enabled it uses 6%
Idle overnight with my dataplan it uses 3% and idle time is approx 12 hours.
In the idle time i have my Gmail synced, twitter, weather ect
In full use and full display light i can use my Tab for approx 6 hours.
I have to mention that my Tab is not Oc-ed

flash again the rom and the kernel ...
.... i hate my tab cuz every week something new need to flash need to wipe need to reset
EDIT .. flashed again with wipe factory and factory rest and nothing happen after i flashed the kernel and the rom
My battery seems to drain fast too
I updated to Kernel 2.15 and Overcome 1.63 last night. It seems to drain 1% every 1.5-2 minutes when I use it with WIFI and 3G on. It drained 6% last night over 6 hours on standby mode (after I shortly pressed the power key).

I know there are some Gallery issues which drains your battery after using it.
But other then that i think some people expecting to much to fast to see some battery life progress on custom roms.
On the first fresh install i had also a drain.
You have to be aware that after a fresh rom install you have to let the battery settle for a couple off charges.
Yesterday i also took a complete reinstall by the guide provided in the Overcome thread.
I did this because i have some issues with FC's on receiving gmails.
After that fresh install and restoring my apps ect.
I went playing with it, first i did 2 hours of surfing over wifi.
Later playing Black Pegasus Modern Combat for 3 hours.
I started of with 67% battery and didn't have the battery calibrated
So after 5 hours of heavy use the Galaxy Tab battery was empty.
This morning i calibrated the battery.
And after a full cycle charge in 2 hours i didn't touch my Tab at all.
After 4 hours i still have 97% battery left.
It is common that when you take your from the charger it instantly drops to 99% (No worry)
So 2% lost in 4 hours in idle standby with 3g on and syncing XDA app every 15min, Twitter every 5 min, email every 30min, Gmail (Push), weather every hour.
I think it's battery life is great.
Beware the screen of our Tab's are using a great deal of battery life.
Even 50% brightness sucks your battery empty.
I have it set on 30% which is good for use in the evening.
Daytime and sunlight it sucks at 30% but since i never use my Tab outside it will work for me.
Hello!
I cant imagine that the battery is draining because of overcome rom or kernel. Since i flashed it my battery life is suprisingly good, even when overclocked!

I know there is a Gallary 3d issue when using it your battery is draining.
Alterbridge is working on that.
If people followed the flash and battery calibrate guide Overcome should have a nice battery life.
I don't know what apps people are using at the moment but it could be an app which is poorly written.
guys im flashing overcome even before the guide posted ...
and about the live wallpaper .. i don't use it .. because i use a honeycomb theme
and about the calibrate of the battery i already did it many times from overcome guide or even from the apps in market .. i knw wat am doing .. i never get on in something that i don't know wat exactly means ...

I seem to be getting about 4.5 hours of battery life (heavy use) . is that normal for a galaxy s or is there something I can do to fix this ?
am using dark knight 5.5
I followed installation instructions to the letter regarding installation.
the phone is a year and a half old as well . should I replace the battery ?
also was wondering if there was any way to bet rid of the back light of the hardware capacitive buttons ???
I had the same issue, but it's working fine for me now, phone is also 1.5 years old.
Few tips:
- Download Battery Calibration Charge battery to 100%, calibrate, unplug phone.
- And also go to the lowest screen brightness as possible.
I doubled my battery life on average use (from 14 hours to about 28 hours) , you should get better results heavy use as well.
problem fixed ! thank you !
hey thanks a bunch sanderpovic .
I figured out my problem . I had already calibrated and brightness is at auto , but the real problem was ns tools . it made the CPU usage maximum by default ! like as if I set the governer to performance ....
I updated ns tools and now seems to be OK
thanks a bunch for replying will try with zero brightness today n see .

yeah by doing that your phone shows you the actual battery .
when you flash roms the battery stats gets corrupted so when you caliber ate the battery the battery stats file gets deleted and the system generates a new one . by letting it fully discharge and recharge to a hundred it gives you a more accurate battery level
simple ans : yeah ....
im gettin sd card scanning error on dark knight v5.5

Thanks so much for help!

Use smartassV2 as cpu governor under performance settings, might increase battery by a margin, but as for now there is no solution for this problem, use minicm7 based rom if u want better battery performance..cheers..
I'll try it. Thanks u!
Try to tick" use 2g only" option! there's a bug here, you need to re-tick it every time you re-boot your phone.

1-Charge your phone to 100%
2-Poweroff your phone and leave it charging for 1-2 more hours
3-Boot on CWM and wipe battery stats
4-Go to build.prop and find this line "ro.telephony.ril.v3=1,icccardstatus,skipbrokendat acall,datacall "
Add qcomuiccstack at the end of the line. It should look like this :

Hi does this work for minicm7?
This is my first post here. Am kinda new to the forum
Well, i know this issue have been said over and over. But i didn't get anything out of other threads
I have my new gnote on stock ICS for 6 weeks now. It's battery drain rate was about 1 % every 5 minutes on browsing. Then one day i installed game "angry gran 2" from 1mobile market, because it said on playstore not available for ur country. And since that moment the battery went crazy. Drain 1 % every 2 or 3 minutes. I uninstalled it a day later and the problem is still there. This was about 10 days ago
I checked running apps nothing is different than normal
I dunt use face book app
I uninstalled samsung push service
GPS and location services are always off
The mobile goes into deep sleep very well no problem with that acc to CPU spy. The processor which usually works is 200 mhz then sometomes 1200 mhz
All settings since the day i bought it are set to save energy "lowest brightness, sync is off .... Etc."
Now the battery does not work notmally unless every charge i remove the battery for few minutes and put it back' i did this today before i turn off my phone battery was 92 % remived battery put it back and it's 87% ! :S
Yester day about twice after going to sleep i find batter increased 1%
Can you help me please to spot where the problem is ?
I have better battery stats but i dunt understand it
And one more question please, does having large number of apps even if not running in the background cause battery drain ?
Thanks all will greatly appreciate any help
+1 on that. My note's battery runs really fast and I'm not even using it for hardcore gaming. The battery gets really hot at times too.

Hi! Once I had a similar battery issue, but in my case it was after flashing a custom rom. Battery started draining much faster than usual. And sometimes battery percentage jumped up too. Have you tried to remove/insert battery, then fully charge your phone and when fully charged run "Battery Calibration" app from Play Store? Have a feeling it's not the solution for your battery issue, maybe a long shot, but still maybe worth a try if you haven't done that already?

There's no such thing as battery calibration apps, it's a con, you just put them through a few cycles and they're fully charged, modifying the battery stats does nothing for the use of the physical battery.

That is correct. The name of the app might be misleading. It does not do anything to the battery's physical condition at all.
The problem I had was that my "battery" suddenly started to drain very fast according to the battery icon in status bar. It dropped about 1%/min during screen off, and even faster with screen on. I charged my phone to 100% about 6 or 7 times. But as soon as I unplugged the cable I had that very quick drain. I guess the battery itself had much more capacity left than shown, it is in good condition... but that didn't help me because my note turned off when the battery icon showed it was low on % and I had to start charging again. Then I ran this app, which only thing it does is to simply delete batterystats.bin file if I understand it correctly. I don't know much about these stuff, but after that the usage time of my phone is back to normal again

I just had a look at Play Store and all the apps I saw that does remove batterystats seem to need root. Probably it is a system file you can't touch without root access then Also, the battery issue you have might be caused by something else.

Well i wish it can be solved this way ... Coz other option am.gonna take is downgrading to GB then factory reset as i understood this won't brick my phone if I got it carrectly
May be it's calibration thing ... Check the attatched photo the batteru since 3 a.m. To 9 a.m. Is almost at same level or increasing .. Maybe it's some kinda of system calibratoon of battery indicator against battery fast drain while working .. I dunt know
In system settings > battery: what is reported there?
Have you tried boot in "safe mode" to see if it still drain the same way? It will exclude most of user installed stuff as your downloaded apps and such from running.
But remember you might loose some user settings on your phone when booting normal again after safe mode.

There's no such thing as battery calibration apps, it's a con, you just put them through a few cycles and they're fully charged, modifying the battery stats does nothing for the use of the physical battery.

although battery calibration app does nothing to do the battery hardware, but it does calibrate on how the battery percentage is being read by your phone. It wiped your battery status, allowing 100% charged to be read as 100% charged. sometimes, due to various reason (ie. flashing without fully charging), your battery status will be inaccurately read by your phone. For example, you charge your phone upto 2000, havent completely charged to the max capacity (2500) but the phone already read 2000 as 100%. and because of this, it will look like your battery drain really fast or the percentage jumping up and down. i guess.
wiping battery status requires you to have root access. thus, this app will only work when you have rooted your phone.
it is true that after a few cycles (not sure how many times) of charging the battery status may go back normal but hey, if we can make sure to do this calibration with only one cycle, why we have to do more?

My battery is crazy. Yep in deep sleep some times it increase 1 % .... On the other hand while working with the phone it drains very rabidly at a rate 3-3.5 % per minute .... Either on wifi or not ... It's normal rate used to be 5 % per minute till the day iinstalled that game and the problem persists even after i removed it
As for the explanation in the thread ptovided it does not make sense to me .. Because every time the battery jumps up the battery drain becomes soooooo rapid afterwards

Have you tried boot in "safe mode" to see if it still drain the same way? It will exclude most of user installed stuff as your downloaded apps and such from running.
But remember you might loose some user settings on your phone when booting normal again after safe mode.

I was trying to find a way to root my phone but i can't find any data on the web ! For some reason that way of rooting tgat was on xda deleted ...
But I have a question ... I always wait rill my phone completely empty and charge it till completely full ... I leave it in the plug about an hour till the complete sign shows in notification bar
Does this mean that way that my battery is already calibrated and i shouldn't try to bother to root the phone and get the app ?

There's Dr ketans thread on rooting in the stickies of development section, it's very simple.
After 1 or two full charge cycles, the battery will recalibrate itself, no need for any app, they don't do anything anyway.

I tried safe mode .. And yeah performance is a little better though still not like before .. it bought me an extra minute per 1% drain .. So i dunt know what that says ? I checked running processes the only difference that facebook and avast antivirus dunt run in safe mode .. Which were probably always there since i got the phone nothing new..
Hello everyone, need some advice. I am unable to know if my battery is functioning normal or should i get it replaced. Please see the atached picture. You will see that my battery draining off within 4hrs with 2G data on. It has been happening from past 2 weeks. Just want to know if it is normal on 2G. Or should i get my battery replaced with a new one. I have read somewhere that with 2G battery of Galaxy Note lasts for about 6 to 7 hrs. Mine goes for just 4 hrs max.
Few details about my usage:
1. Data sync is not on all the time. But for every half an hour i keep data sync on for 30 for 40 seconds max to retrive mails.
2. I dont not watch any videos, online or on mobile.
3. I dont play games at all though i have around 20 games bcoz of this poor battery life.
4. I do not do video calling.
5. With the above usage and little bit of online videos using wifi, I get around 3 to 4 hrs of battery life.

Hello guys, sorry for my bad english, but I'm not American. Well, my question is:
I bought from a guy a Galaxy S I900b, Brazilian model with digital TV. Came with stock 2.3. As I had already read enough before, upgraded to JWB Saurom with semaphore kernel, which I think is the default for this rom. Well, the phone had very poor battery life, evn on idle. Then upgraded to 10.2 CM. I saw that had some wakelocks, and with BBS and the help here, I used the Scan Media Root and my problems are gone in iddle. So, my phone goes into deep sleep and today during my sleep, only lost 3% battery, 3% battery drain on idle during about 5-6 hours it very good to me. But during use, it ends up very fast, and with GSAM and standard monitor of the android, I saw that after the screen, the Android system was what had higher %% battery. So what could it be ? The battery life is ok, checked on info, and its condition is 'good'. I use to Greenify, and close almost every game\app, so running is just grenify and ram manager pro.
So the prob just could be a app or the 'android system' ? Or even hardware ?
I dont have much time now, so any info or screenshot you want, I can provide later
Thanks
What about your connections? Do you have 3G/wifi enabled at all times?
calibrate....maybe useless, but u can try....but somehow, try bigger mAh battery, maybe.....n maybe .... it will help.
juz charge it with screen turn on till it full, n waste it to 0% till it shut down, turn it on n charge it with screen on till it full again, u ll be fine
if problem occur again, keep an eye for sneaky app that run at background (email...exchange etc) n juz delete some sys app that u dont use using titanium.
if it still occur again, wait for arc reactor battery....

I've deleted the batterystats.bin and used until 0%, so charged while off, but nothing :C
It's true that the battery needs to 'learn' ? Like, a few charges and discharges and could estabilize ?
I'll take a few screenshots right now
Callibration of you battery eg: Wipe battery stats is onluy helpfull when you get weird battery stats.
If you are on any CyanogenMod ROM you have to get used to the higher ammount of battery use by the phone. The application Greenify can help a lot by hibernating the huge battery suckers like facebook and google maps.
Some tips:
- use 2G instead of 3G
- Turn WIFI off when you're outside the house or leaving for some time
- Turn GPS/Bluetooth on only when you're about to use it
- Dont use taskkillers (they are used to free up ram but killing apps makes android restarts them and this consumes extra juice)
- Put brightness on Auto
- Use a dark theme and background/lockscreenwallpaper
- Dont recharge your phone when below 5% this can damage the battery
- A new battery needs to "Get used to" the life of being a battery xD After a few recharging cycles it will work like normal
Here some screenshots, if need more, just ask
Note: Was with 14%batt, rebooted and drops to 11-10%

i am using greenify on almost everything.
used to use ram manager, but now i've disable it.
brightness is on low
I really dunno what 2 do ... almost 1 week with it and this insane drain, everyone says that plays or browser on wifi and get almost 10 hours... my dream this happen to me lol
Remember that this is just on use, on idle it use virtually nothing, like I said, almost 3% on sleep, but is just I start use with app or browser and its gone
Screens are from a too short period of useage. Use it from fully charged, and make some new screenies This can help futher
Well i got problems with my battery too so im planning to buy a new one because this one cant even handle 3-4 hours when im doing something like playing games,or listening music...Just buy new battery with more mAh and dont get bother with this

About 2 hours later that I fully charged, here are some ss
Just used whatsapp and opera in this time
I was thinking in change my kernel, currently I'm using semaphore 3.0 with CM10.2, is Latrop or Mackay better in battery life ?
I think its my last shot ... I'll provide a new battery next week, but i've heard some people with batt probs that even with new batt the problem persists :crying:

It looks like wifi and 3G have been kept on for most/all of the time. Turning those off while you're not using them may significantly increase battery life.
Also, related to kernels, personally I've found Mackay to be a bit better in terms of battery.
Also it looks like your screen's pretty bright if 61% of the battery usage is because of it. So if you don't need it so bright turning the brightness down may help.
Start by doing those, and see how your battery life fares first- if not much changes, then it may help getting a bettery battery/changing rom even.

So, like i said, in this 2 hours after charge, i've used opera mini with wifi, I dont use 3g. Right now the battery is less than 10%... it's strange since have people telling that can use almost 5 hours wifi and the battery is > 50%
And the brightness is at lowest bright :\
The problem could be some corrupted file ? I have the options:
- format EVERYTHING, and dont use titanium backup, since somthing can be corrupted.
- change my kernel to Mackay
- change my room back to SAUROM 2.3.6 adn semaphore kernel
I'm very sad cuz I have a very old Nokia E5 that can be on with wifi almost or more than 10hours ... and this phone can barely hold 5hour
What u suggest me to do ?

How long have you been using the rom? Roms take time to calibrate the battery and this is through charge/discharge cycles.
Alternatively, go into Performance settings and change the profile to powersave/conservative (it differs from rom to rom). Lock the min CPU frequency to 200mHz- apparently this helps.
Again, this would change depending on your kernel.
And if you have a three year old battery like mine, best not to expect miracles...

Using bout 2 days ... but i didnt knew about ' calibrate '. Good to know that
Now i've formated everything and will put a stock 2.3 and see in a couple of days the perfomance ... if gets better, I put the saurom 2.3.6 and be with it, cuz 2.3.6 on brazilian model allow to use digital tv, and 2.3 everyone says is economic.
I'll get this updated if my situation changes, if not, will buy a new battery
Thanks for all your help
Note: How long your batt last ? With high\low usage
