The screen flickers when there is any kind of light background on any video I play on the internet via wifi. Auto screen brightness is turned off both within the browser and frm the main display setting as well.
Any possible solution to this OR you are having similar issues ?
PS: This happens only on internet. Rest screen is perfect in all activity.
Yeah I know what you are talking. I noticed that same. But believe me... there are more annoying problems out there with that Huge Crap of ours.

Never noticed such, can you give an example website?
It generally happens on any video i play via net, but more noticable on lighter backgrounds. A perfect example would the below video:

Bought my note a couple of days back and after reading Galaxy Note Screen Issues!!! thread I spend few hours trying to find any bugs.
Here are my findings:
1. Slight saturation of gray color on upper right of the screen during screen test
2. Screen flickers while browsing internet with stock browser
3. Halo in calc application
3. Patchy plain black image if set as lock screen wallpaper
I think these screen related problems are because of the software bug not hardware (except few cases with dead pixels). Because------
I set brightness to 1% using Elixir and used Opera mini and mobile, Dolphin HD and Mini, UC Browser but screen did not flicker. Even while reading books with adobe reader screen does not flicker. Halo in calc app is the design of the app.
But I am not sure about gray screen issue.
So to be SAFE, tomorrow I am gonna go to Samsung SC and tell em that if these problems persist after forthcoming updates (2.3.7 or ICS) I would demand refund or replacement
PS
We got the latest and greatest mobile available in the market. Its a beast of a phone!! So stop complaining
Sorry for my English its not my native language.
Its been proven that every Note differs. There are ppl which do not have hues or banding in calc app. It shlould be pure blue to black gradient, without any color hues, red or green. It should go out to black quite smoothly, not through gray.

OK thx for confirming. BTW, You know any browser i can download that supports Hardware acceleration.
And ppl plz dont start taking abt random screen issues(There is a dedicated thread here for that), be on topic and post your views if there is any kind of flickering/banding while using internet.
Do you get the same flickering using the youtube app?
Yep, I get the flickering when watching flash videos. I've read that it's not just a Note problem, other devices have the same issue. I also belive it's software, not hardware related.
Don't know how to cure it though!
Same here.. flickering in flash videos - top half of the video.

Played this video in Stock Browser. Played via flash player , no problem found. no weird lines or flickering.
I get a brightness flicker while touching the screen during browsing. So far no other screen issues from my subjective experience.
I don't understand why not everyone has that problem. If so, maybe it is really hw related. And that would be bad.. I can't imagine that t-mobile will change the unit But there is still a chance that it can be sw problem, because it makes no sense that other videos are playing ok.
btw: i can also see flickering on that youtube video

Is there any way at all to do a fix for either the youtube client or the X1's display drivers such that it display the Youtube vid correctly?
I am using Wild Child's latest rom and for some strange reason when I play the tube file the first time in landscape mode a white line is in the button of the screen and in the left hand side of the screen, but then I play the same file the second time those stripes are gone?
This happen with every second youtube file
Is it a hardware or software issue??
As far as I can tell this has been there in all of the youtube applications with various drivers, the new manila rom doesnt use r3 drivers...and its still there...
WC
to be honest, i don't consider this a bug at all. so there's a thin white line - so what? what bug's me more is the fact that the videos still have to be fully buffered before playing or you'll have video-lag. (happens via 3g and wlan with every rom i've tried so far, not via activesync)
if i remember correctly this had to something with drivers too, but i didn't follow the corresponding threads lately. any news on that?

It did not happen with R1A, only with subsequent R2/R3 ROMS and I'm assuming custom ROMs based off of it.
I also really wish someone with the expertise would step up and help us out with this one.
The reason why it is buffered is to somewhat avoid the lag in video, this was dne on purpose...I mean even on your computer when accessing some sites to view video's through say windows media player it will buffer the video... As I stated in my earlier post...I have tried various drivers and that software bug is still there.......

you ever noticed, how video-playback is lagging, but audio is normal while buffering? that's what i meant. hit "pause" and let it load the full video first, everything will be normal.
so no, that's not like on the computer...

depends on what OS this pc has to run... and yes, an old pentium-m underclocked to 600 mhz plays them fine.
anyhow, look above: it didn't happen with the first firmware. it doesn't happen if it's connected via active sync. it obviously doesn't happen on other phones (the iphone has an even slower cpu), etc etc...
but that wasn't the point.
so, no news in that direction.

I am not a software engineer or a programmer, but to me its like the client is made to talk to a set of display drivers which aren't 100% compatible with the X1s displaydrivers. Thereby causing it not display fullscreen video in youtube client correctly always?
if the youtube client had ben open source would it have possible to take the base code apart and fix the problem?
just for fun i've installed the official cab from youtube - no white stripes, but lagging as well while buffering...

Reverting to the R1A ROM fixes all issues with youtube constantly buffering and not playing back HQ video smoothly, it does not fix the issue with the white line. Sorry for the confusion.
I think the buffering issue and not playing back HQ videos smoothly is a much bigger issue than the white line.

never noticed this before:
lag while buffering obviously depends on the video being played. there's non of it while playing a cartoon (try "southpark"). play anything else - lag until fully buffered. so either the initial drivers had some sort of hw-acceleration (don't believe that) or the newer ones are less efficient and therefore need more cpu-ressources?
the "pc vs.mac" videos are playing almost smooth, only minor hickups there -> white background without details.
@yyyyy:
are these fixes of your's uninstallable? i'm on itje's v10.2 and it's running perfectly, i don't want to risk a hardreset right now...
Looks like something have changed att youtube because it's like the built in youtube application is suddenly struggling to play the high res videos. It's not a buffering issue, I've checked that already. Videos get short pauses now and then, almost like the hardware acceleration is disabled. I doubt I'm the only one experiencing this...
Could you link me to this youtube app, please? I went directly to the youtube site yesterday and streamed a couple of short vids which played ok but with buffering. It played in the stream app on the phone and I couldn't zoom it or do full screen. What does the youtube app do differently? Does it allow better streaming or full screen or something?
I mean the original youtube app thats pre-installed in the Diamond. It uses hardware acceleration to play videos with nice quality and smooth framerate, now it's not that good anymore so I'm guessing something have changed at youtube... It's strange though...

Okey dokey, thanks. It's installed now and rebooting. I'll try the fix if it doesn't work. And no, I didn't know I needed the VGA version so thanks for pointing that out.
Ok, I installed the fix because the screen looked a bit messed up and the text is tiny and I can't seem to zoom in. Stil the same with the fix however the video runs very well. But, the capture area is a small square on the left bottom corner in landscape mode. I'll take some pictures of my screen for you.
Ok, here's 2 screenshots. It defaults to playing in landscape but only the small area you can see. Where I type to search, the letters are cut off (see 'CATS AND DOGS') and the text is microscopically small. Any adjustments I can make? Is it possible for the seartch to bring up more than 5 results?
At least it works though, very smooth playback.
That looks very strange... Videos should play fullscreen in landscape...
I suggest you to uninstall that version & the fix and get this version instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481495

Thanks man, I'll give it a try.
This is odd. I've installed it successfully and it shows up in 'remove programs' but it doesn't show up anywhere else, nowhere to be found in program files, (the other version did), so I can't start the app. This happened when installing to the internal storage, uninstalling it, and reinstalling to the device.
I'll reinstall the earlier version and then do the upgrade version, see if that helps.
Yes that worked! Thanks for the links owziee
I notice that I can scroll up and down the list of videos with the centre button, but it doesn't respond to screen touch with finger, is it meant to be like that? Anyway, not bothered, just wondering. I'm happy now, the quality is great, it's full screen and the text is normal size now.
No thats not normal, I can use my finger to scroll but at least you can watch the videos now. Maybe you'll find a fix for the scrolling issue.

I've read through several reviews that the galaxy note web browsing battery test score is low due to the fact that the default explorer takes its toll on the gpu , have any of you tried non stock browsers and had better battery life with it ?
i my self use dolphin HD and i get the same results
its not entirely the GPU's fault. if you check out the PC world, GPU's are more energy efficient than CPUs. ie. my gtx560ti soc had 384 cores running at 2ghz and draws 205w, my i7 2600k only has 8 hyperthreaded cores running at 4.5ghz and it draws 180w, guess which one has much more processing power and better performance per watt?
the reason why the battery dies so quickly with web browsing isnt because of the GPU and CPU, but because of the AMOLED screen. when an AMOLED screen is black, it uses no power. when an AMOLED screen is fully lit up white, it draws full power. most web pages have white backgrounds, which means the AMOLED screen is constantly running at full power, which is the reason for terrible battery life whilst web browsing. some people had a fix for it by modding opera browser to set backgrounds to black instead with white text, that went a long way towards improving battery life.
well part of what you said is true about white backgrounds but thats not the main problem
in gsmarena's battery test it scored about 8.5 hours on video playback while only 3.5 hours in web browsing , sure some of the extra consumption are contributed to wifi or 3g usage but the gap is above the normal range .
My default browser is Opera Mobile,it is not hardware accelaerated so I constantly get between 5-6 hours of non stop browsing with it,besides it supports text reflow when pinched to Zoom and am too used to it from my days on HD2..
The other two ,the Stock and Dolphin rarely I use them.
4 months later and first time I'm hearing about this.
I personally use stock browser. Not a fan of dolphin HD, but dolphin mini is cool and opera mobile is also great.

I hope that with the ICS browser we will see an improvement, i know it won't be that much because of the Super Amoled Screen but in ICS you can invert the color scheme so white will be black and that will make a big change for people who browse a lot!
My battery life using Opera Mobile seems fairly good im using a CSS file for a black background which I found really helps.

i dont see how your quote disproves what im saying. the white backgrounds are the main problem believe it or not. videos often use dark colours, hence the extra battery life with videos. even gsmarena mentions the amoled white screen thing in their review iirc.
the ICS browser on the galaxy note has the option to invert colours, that will improve battery life dramatically.

That's why XDA mobile (also Youtube) is so good with a black background.
I use Dolphin and find it is very good with lots of great features. However it does chew battery but mainly because I still visit many websites with white backgrounds. I've tried reducing brightness until white is almost grey but battery still disappears.
But again - as I keep saying - small price to pay with such a brilliant screen to be able to view entire web pages. Who cares if you have to charge every night?
I'd also recommend buying extra batteries or a USB recharger if you are going away for more than 24 hours
IMO, the best Android web browser is Maxthon. Super fast, tab browsing, gestures etc.
I use it as my main browser on my desktop PC and now also on my Android phones.
It also has a night mode which darkens the screen and also inverts the page colors so the white background becomes dark gray / black.

Been running Maxthon and Boat off and on for the last month or so. Both are very useable and responsive, and the 2 "lightest" full-featured browsers I know of. There are a few things I prefer about each, so haven't settled on a primary, yet... but the slight edge goes to Boat at the moment. Watching System Panel and a few other tools, Boat seems to be requiring fewer GPU and CPU resources while browsing (no flash sites while comparing).

What the..? This thread is filled to the brim with misinformation.
First of all, using GPU is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. Videos consume so little battery exactly because all decoding, including audio, is done in hardware, there is almost nothing for CPU to do while playing video. Go ahead and install e.g. MXPlayer and disable H/W decoding and try playing videos then; you'll notice battery-life dropping to barely 3 hours.
Secondly, Gingerbread does not use GPU for almost any of the regular 2D operations. And guess what? Web browsers do quite heavy amounts of 2D graphics, and since they're not accelerated all those operations must be done in software. ICS does support GPU-acceleration for quite many 2D operations so you'll see much improved battery-life when browsing the web on ICS.

There's an app called Wi-Fi TX Power with which you can set wifi receiver signal strength. I'm not sure how much power it can save, but on my old HD2 it reduced the peak power usage while browsing from 500 mA to some 200/300 mA.

Hi All,
I have used my red magic 3 phone for about 9 months. Since then I have watched youtube videos, netflix, other torrent videos and mostly playing pubg mobile every night and I never come across to this experience (screen flicker).
This screen flicker only happens to one of the scene in youtube.
I am asking you guys, owner of red magic 3 to test this for me too, I am afraid this issue only happen to my screen and not yours. My phone is on Global ROM V2.18.
Here is part 1 and part 2 of my screen issue, some explanation is provided on the video description:
Part 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emt9-pcNAlA
Part 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaiHSd2qqnQ
How to test this:
1. Watch the original youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sQCmgCmN7U
2. Fast forward between 0:14 - 0:19
3. The flicker only happens at scene 0:16 - 0:18
Please let me know if this issue/flicker also happen on your phone too.
Any feedback is very much appreciated, thank you.
UPDATE FOR A FIX WORKING SOLUTION:
Do not use Youtube App but use Youtube Vanced instead, now any videos that previously has that screen glitch/flickering issue on Youtube, is gone while watching with Youtube Vanced.
Hi, has anyone faced this issue too ?
I have tried to Factory Reset my phone and the problem still persist. But if I download the video from youtube and copy to internal storage and play the video using local player or MX Player, the issue does not happen, kinda weird though.
This issue only happens with Youtube App, m.youtube but not with Netflix app and local video playback (MX Player)
It persists no matter what you do i have same issue

Hi everyone, I am looking for some help if anyone willing to !
When I play some games (like Dead Cells or Legends of runeterra) or while I am scrolling with Firefox, sometimes white stripes appears on the upper part of the screen.
Note that when I am playing, it mainly like all the display shifts (like an old TV). Sorry I cannot make any screenshot as it needs movement to appear ...
This never happened when I was on stock ROM and just started after Los flash. Before trying to go back to stock, I just wanted to know if someone had an explanation about that and, maybe, a fix ?
Thanks in advance guys !
