Galaxy S plus GT i9001 root issues - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Righty, I rooted my S+ i9001, I just followed the steps at the link here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...253707&page=23) and everything went ok but now every time i sart my phone or try to use an app that needs root I get told superuser stopped working. (one thing with keksliks howto it states press home but should say press menu when u see android out of box)
Lookin at my phone details is still says kernal 2.6.35.7-perf [email protected] # 1 any ideas what went wrong, tried updating superuser via market and the fix but both stop unexpectedly. The signed root zip I also downloaded from here via another thread. Now loads of apps are crashing, google frame, even facebook and internet browsing.
I even ran the unroot also posted with the link above but still loads of apps keep crashing and wont work. ANy ideas or is there w working GT i9001 signed zip that gives root and don't kill everything?

I must be doing something wrong as everyone else following the same thread say it works.

Well I rooted again and busybox says my phone is rooted but titanbackup says can't get root, any ideas?

i've had the same issue I unrroted with the unroot signed.zip and rooted again with the root signed.zip the averything worked. Try a factory reset and wipe the dalvik cache in recovery mode.

it seems like you have updated your phone to another firmware without resetting it.
So try that and backup your settings and contacts before doing that

Easy unroot with supperoneclick
I think you don't need to reset but you van Just unroot with supperoneclick, just search Google for it. You don't need to switch de Phone off, but you need to Connect with the usb cable. Check your setting for USB debuggen (should be switched on) otherwhise it wont work. Then Connect the usb with your pc. And Connect on your Android device. Then open the program and click unroot.
If you have any questions Just ask.
Hope it works!

cannot root - error message - have tried several methods

I have searched the forum, and google about this error message, and have found a few other people who have gotten it but no one has responded to them. So if there is a fix out there, I'm sorry, I was not able to find it before posting. Thanks for helping me out!
This is my phone information, out of the box:
Firmware version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband version: I897UCJH7
Kernel version: 2.6.29
[email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR.UCJH7
I tried the One-Click Root in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304.
It gave me the Superuser permissions app (with a android skull-and-crossbones icon). I could open this app, there were no apps listed within it, and I could access the settings, but if I tried to access the log screen it gave me the following message:
"Sorry! The application Superuser Permissions (process com.noshufou.android,su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again [Force close]".
I unrooted it with the same One-Click method, and it removed the Superuser App. Then I tried the method listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736491#. this method gave me the Superuser permissions app (with a ninja icon), but this time I can't even open the app. It gives me the same error listed above as soon as I open it.
I then tried to unroot again, using the One-Click method that worked before, but it did not remove the Superuser App.
So where am I now? I'm not exactly sure what has happened to my phone at this point.
have u checked at any time if u had superuser rights??? I've rooted my cappy several times and had not opened once the super user app
download terminal emulator from the market and type "su" (without "") and see if it gets permission...

I downloaded the android terminal emulator, and typed su as directed, and got the same error message as listed in my OP.
Use the one click method again. Download something harmless like drocap2 which us an app that requires root to take screen shots. Open app. If you are rooted the app will ask if you want to grant super user permission.

Excuse me? I thought the whole point of rooting is to get superuser permission. That is, like an administrator in Windows. With superuser permission, you can use apps that are otherwise blocked, such as titanium backup. And you can use custom recoveries to flash other custom roms.
When I rooted my phone, I got superuser app with the skull and cross. Anytime I use an app that requires superuser permission, it will record so in the superuser app.
I think you already had root the first time. Now, I don't know what you have done to stop the phone from being rooted again.
Did the One-Click root again, this time it said it couldn't find the update.zip. I really don't understand what's going on.
Edited to add: When I go to Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications - Superuser is not listed there. It is on the main applications page, but I cannot open it - it gives that error message.
Tried to do the one-click root again, for the I-don't-know-how-manyieth time. I watched the green dos screen very closely, and it said something about not being able to update root... then it quickly went to the blue screen that said I was rooted and the phone would be rebooted, select reinstall packages, etc.
Hoping the more information I can give will be helpful.
Why don't you test the phone. Go to market and try to get an app that only works if you have root (i.e. with superuser status). I would suggest getting Titanium backup. If you can get it and can get it to work, then you have root.
Edit: Just read your last message. I think you did not do the last step: Get the phone in recovery mode (holding updown volume switch and on switch at the same time). It should lead you to blue screen and then you have to select update.
I did get to the recovery mode. The one click program reboots the phone directly into recovery mode, but I also used the volume and power key method to get it to recovery mode when I tried the manual copy of the update.zip method.

But on recovery move (blue color), did you use vol down to move the highligted line to "reinstall packages" and then use power key to select it? Otherwise, I am at lost as to what you did.

Yes I did. Believe me, I am as confused as you are. I researched rooting for weeks before getting the captivate and I followed the directions exactly, or at least I think I did.

I was worried I might have to restore to stock. Thankfully I haven't made too many customizations...
A few questions:
I have purchased one application from the market - will it let me re-download this application after restoring?
Also, what difference would flashing an older version than I originally had, and then updating back up to my original version make? Sorry if that's a noob question, I just would like to understand why I can't or shouldn't just restore to stock and then try rooting again from there. I ask this because I just got done reading the "How to: Samsung Kies Program" thread, and it seems there are no end to the problems people have encountered using that program, so I would like to avoid having to use the program if possible.
Thanks so much, everyone, for your help!

Market saves all purchased apps you just have to download them again.
I would flash stock using this program
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
As long as you follow the steps it its easy and usually painless. It us also going to become your favorite program if you start flashing custom roms

Ok, I tried to install the drivers for Windows 64bit and it says it was "not successfully installed". I downloaded some drivers recently from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929 when I originally did the one-click root. Could it be "not successfully installing" because the driver was already installed? I didn't pay enough attention the first time I installed them to notice if it wasn't successfully installed that time either. I don't want to mess up my phone by not having everything right.

I will be attempting to restore my phone to stock tomorrow... I was able to go into Device Manager and pull in the drivers manually. It installed all but the I put it into download mode just now, to make sure I knew how to get there, and it said there were some drivers missing. "CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM)" and "S3C6410 Android ADB" were not able to install. Also, I put my phone into download mode, just to make sure I could get into it before attempting the restore, and a box popped up saying there was a missing driver.

I downloaded the drivers from Samsung. Unzipped the file and pointed device manager to that directory everytime it asked for a driver. Worked like a charm and have never had any issues like everyone else. Then again I know what I'm doing.

Ok, I un-installed the drivers, and reinstalled them and everything installed correctly this time and I am no longer getting message about drivers not being installed correctly. The computer recognizes the phone and all is well. Now I am following the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 to use Odin to flash back to stock, but something's not working. I start by turning the phone off, removing the battery, sim and sd card, and inserting the battery again. Then I open Odin, and enter download mode by holding down the volume keys and plugging the in the USB. Then I click "start" on the Odin program. It immediately shows "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" and nothing has changed on the phone. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: I'm gathering from reading the Odin thread that Odin is not recognizing my phone?
I've tried the method of plugging the phone in, opening Odin, pulling and reinserting the battery, and then entering download mode by holding the volume and power keys and releasing the power key after the second black screen. Odin still doesn't show any indication of detecting my phone.

Close Odin. Run Odin as administrator and plug your phone into a rear usb port, you need to plug into a usb port that is close to the motherboard because Odin needs a lot of juice, it won't work for most from any other ports. Put your phone in download mode and try it again.

[Q] Please Help!

Any help you are willing to give is greatly appreciated.
Ok so I rooted my phone and deleted the bloatware on my samsung captivate. I only delete the apps i did not want, but i am not an experienced android hacker so i might have done something stupid. My issue is when i try to download an app in the market this message pops up.
"The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. dumpstate_app_202012092328_android_process_media.l og has been saved. Use *39900# to copy out log"
I have tried force closing the market but it does not work. un rooted my phone and it doesnt work. deleted the app that i used to delete the bloatware thinking it could be the app interfereing and that doesnt work either. I have done a factory reset and id did not work, attempted to use ODIN but i cannot understand how to use it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989.
At the moment i am trying to use rom manager and a rogers stock but it wont flash the new rom. its the clsoest i have gotten to fixing my mess but using the rogers stock it stays on installing and using any other one it doesnt find it.
I am so sad and helpless. I would greatly appreciate any help you would be willing to provide.
it definately looks like you deleted something you shouldn't have, but I have no idea what. although getting back to stock is quite easy with odin.
-first download the odin one click provided by designgears in that thread you linked.
-open it up and connect your usb cable to your computer, but not the phone yet.
-turn off your phone and enter download mode by holding both volume keys down and plugging the usb cable in. hold the volume keys down until you see the yellow triangle with the android digging or whatever. see below if this method did not work for you.
-click start on the odin one click window on your computer and wait until it finishes; your phone will reboot automatically.
if the above method of entering download mode did not work for you, you will need to download another version of odin one click to stock posted in the captivate development forum that has the button fix; it should only be a few pages in. flashing this will fix the button combinations and allow you to use the button combinations to enter either download or recovery mode. however in order to flash this, you obviously need to enter download mode. this is easily done by using adb of which there is a guide posted somewhere on this forum or using the terminal emulator app that I will attach to this post, if you reply saying the above button method did not work, since your problem is that you can't install it from the market yourself. (mods, i hope this is okay since it is a free app. if not I apologize and please remove it) copy this file to somewhere on your sd card and using the my files application, select it to install it. then open it up and type reboot download without having the usb cable connected. after you see the yellow triangle, plug in the cable and click start on odin. using the above command requires your phone to be rooted. (i think?) hope this helps.
unfortunately i do not see the terminal emulator app that you attached to the post?
If I had to take a guess at it you deleted gtalk. Did the same thing a while back.
Do you have loading enabled?
Have you ever heard of or used odin?
Good news is you will recover. You are going to have to learn a couple if things.
What do you know? What type of computer do you have?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I searched the forums for the terminal emulator and commands to get to download page.
su press enter
reboot download enter
and it worked like a charm. then i followed exactly what you said after that and it worked amazing thank you so much!!!!!
haha glad you got it fixed. I was going to attach the terminal emulator if you had replied saying the button method didn't work.

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S 1900m Canada

my lack of knowledge/terminology been sitting here for hours trying to root my phone with no luck. I know it is doable through ADB but I tried installing it and it didnt work. I tried the one click root method too but when it gets to the "repackage files" step, I just plain don't have the option on the menu, here are the options
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
format internal sd card
when I press the update.zip it says unverifiable whatever. ( not in the mood to reboot it just for this)
is there anything on here that actually is just straight up for a beginner?
I am completely confused past this point.
Try using Superoneclick v1.5.5

You're on jl2 right?
Problem is: Recovery 3e is verifiing signature on update.zip file, you'll have to get on Recovery 2e in order to root from an unsigned update.zip.
you can probably use the search fonction to find the "how To" easely. It took me less than 10 minutes gettings mine rooted.
Personnaly, all I did is flash another kernel with Odin
http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html
K So I upgraded to the kernel you told me to and it booted up normally I have my market back and the superuser permissions but when I press superuser permissions it doesnt show anything other than settings which only have two trivial options.
what do I do from here.

That is fine if you have the superuser app show up, that means it's rooted. You won't see anything in there until an app needs superuser permission. Download titanium backup when you first boot it you well be prompted for superuser access click allow then next time you go into superuser app you will draw titanium backup in the list.

Any replies would be helpful. In the end, I would love to be able to get Darkys Rom on my phone, but no one responds in that thread nor does anyone really know what to do with my phone version.
If anyone could help me out, that would be great. Thanks
Help pls
OK so to start off i had this samsung galaxy s GT-I9000M from bell and i was trying to upgrade it so that my sister could use a newer version of android and not the boring v.2 . ANYWAYS I rooted it then reboot it and it was stuck at the splash screen so i thought it was stuck and i searched for a way to fix it which was to get the PDA PHONE CSC and PIT files and put them in odin and hope for the best. well that turned out horribly wrong. i ended up getting the phone stuck in some boot loop where it flashes a white screen and turns of and it does this constantly :crying::crying::crying: I can still get to download mode but not recovery mode for some reason...... PLS HALP

[Q] Unable to boot tablet.. please help

Hi I hope someone can help me as i'm a little stuck how to proceed....
Basically I purchased a new P7310 tablet 2 days ago with the idea of installing lovely JellyBean.
I firstly 'Rooted' the following the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137 and then installed and run 'Superuser' without problems.
Next I installed 'Titanium Backup Root' and 'RomManager from ClockWorkMod', I run Titanium Backup Root and carried out a full system and apps backup successfully.
Next I connected my tablet to my Windows PC and downloaded the latest two ROM zip files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777398 and copied them to the Root of my SDcard.
I then disconnected my tablet and clicked the 'RomManager' app, once opened I clicked on the 'Boot in Recovery' button and a message appeared saying it needs to install the Recovery Manager, so I clicked OK. Next a success message appear saying it installed OK. So I decided to click the 'Backup ROM' button before I started just to be safe but the tablet switched off... black screen, it then loaded up but the Samsung logo flash up then disappeared.
Now If I try to power on the tablet I just get to the logo then powers off, if I try to boot into recovery mode it displays the two icons on the screen ok but selecting the left icon (with mini android character) it powers off. If I select the other green icon it shows me a message about installing custom roms and asks me to connect the tablet to a USB... followed by asking about 'odin3'?
I'm totally confused what I can do now, as I say I haven't actually got to the point of installing the JelyBean Rom, I just wanted to make a few backups first.
Any help much appreciated..thanks.
From further investigation I think I have soft bricked my tab :crying:
Now trying to find out how I might be able to fix it, found this post which I really hope will help me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
Any help with trying to fix my tab would be great.. thanks.
Fixed it thanks to this forum :victory:
Encase anyone else has the same issue I just downloaded the original ROM file for my UK P7310 (P7310XEUKJ4_P7310XXKJ4_HOME.tar.md5) which was approx 600MB (once extracted to desktop) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943
And followed the screen shot instructions further down the thread from user 'suwandiapr' which informed me which options to have selected when runing the 'Odind3 v1.85' application.
The whole process took around 10 minutes to complete.
Sounds like ROM Manager screwed you. This is why I'm not a big fan of these Play Store release ROM/recovery installers. You can't test on every device, therefore there are going to be issues and some people are going to end up with bricks. Sure, they're convenient, and they work most of the time, but when they don't work, it has the potential to be catastrophic.
IMO, stick with flashing things through working recovery (or Odin the first time).
EDIT: Also, glad you're back up and running.
had same problem with p7300 after Rom Manager.
now using cwm for total backups and 'my backup' for applications when moving between different roms.
I'll second everything said. Always use a recovery to flash a rom. Never rom manager or other such things i hard bricked my i727 using goo manager. Don't trust the rom either rom manager or goo manager say are compatible with you device. Pretty sure my hard brick was from a gapps goo manager said was compatible with the rom. Check xda and what others have said works
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using xda app-developers app
The best option to flash any rom is from the cwm recovery, unless its a stock rom and u want to use Odin from dl mode. Also, some versions of cwm recovery are deemed dangerous for ics. Pls visit tracids thread in development for details.

sgh-t599 recovery / restore

HI XDA

now im stuck in CWM recovery 6.0.3.6, Ive spent several hours readind and trying to fix this with no luck.

I can device list in adb and shows the numbers and "recovery" but when i try to use commands it says "waiting for device" or something.
from what i read, i need unsecure boot to restore firmware. where can i get this and how do i do it pls.
i have no mount usb option in cwm, when i try to recover/update from cwm it says aborted. in adb im able to reboot the phone with the commands but always reboots to cwm recovery or waiting for device. any help pls. i may have access to another rooted t599 if i am able to backup and recover it to this phone?:crying:

You must have format system or something. A factory reset wipes cache and data, nothing else. There should be a homebrew odin-file somewhere in these t599 threads.

phone was rooted and had superuser etc on it. I didn't know about rooting, I did factory reset from the main menu which im pretty sure is what caused this. before that I was able to look through its apps where I saw the superuser, terninal and others, once factory reset it rebooted to cwm recovery and stuck there. there was no backup or side sdcard. only realized it was rooted after saw the cwm and stuck
odin doesnt detect phone either, downloaded/installed universal drivers still no go.
main issue is not being to able enable usb debug/download while still in cwm
repair shop says $30, about to run there
i caused my friends sgh-t599 to do that
So... This might be late.... But I'm going to postthis for others .... So I was looking for ever for a way to unbrick his phone... Then hope Finley came .. After I read hard enough .. And came across a post for a stock pre-rooted tar file to be flashed with Odin...

^PreRooted Stock ROM for SGH-T599
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B8oW93h4qD3-X3UxdFl5VlhzZVU&export=downloads
° so to unbrick you're SGH-T599 after downloading the two files above
1§t: put sgh-t599 in download mode(vol.down+home+power).... Plug in and press vol. Up
2ed: Open odin 3.09.. Wait for added to show up (mite have to unplug then re plug the phone)..
Click on AP and find 0B8oW93h4qD3-X3UxdFl5VlhzZVU.tar
........ It should take awhile ......
Then after you're phone boots up... An after you set everything up
.... GET two apps from the play store
° install one of the superuser apps
° then get a root checker as app
^EXTRAS(maybe needed)
°one of BusyBox apps from play store

So... This might be late.... But I'm going to postthis for others .... So I was looking for ever for a way to unbrick his phone... Then hope Finley came .. After I read hard enough .. And came across a post for a stock pre-rooted tar file to be flashed with Odin...
^Odin V3.09
http://odindownload.com/
^PreRooted Stock ROM for SGH-T599
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B8oW93h4qD3-X3UxdFl5VlhzZVU&export=downloads
° so to unbrick you're SGH-T599 after downloading the two files above
1§t: put sgh-t599 in download mode(vol.down+home+power).... Plug in and press vol. Up
2ed: Open odin 3.09.. Wait for added to show up (mite have to unplug then re plug the phone)..
Click on AP and find 0B8oW93h4qD3-X3UxdFl5VlhzZVU.tar
........ It should take awhile ......
Then after you're phone boots up... An after you set everything up
.... GET two apps from the play store
° install one of the superuser apps
° then get a root checker as app
^EXTRAS(maybe needed)
°one of BusyBox apps from play store
° SU checker app from the play store
HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS WELL FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS THIS TO ATTEMPT TO UNBRICK YOU'RE DEVICE
....
PS IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING ELSE GOES WRONG
