anyone feel like theyre being throttled by tmo? im in the socal region and i dont even have 500mB used for unlimited data. i think i read somewhere they will hold your speed back if youve used over a gig or two, but 500megs?
btw, i usually get >2mb/s, but recently have been getting .5mb/s..
No throttling in Dallas. I tethered my laptop to download a ~700 Mb file this past weekend (I don't usually do that, but I needed to). Still pulling anywhere from 2-4 Mb/s
Possibly network upgrades happening.
(Give them a call and find out)
Bandwidth can be throttled by the number of users, more users less bandwidth to go around.
I Just talked to a csr at tmo and if you have unlimited data with the nexus you will not be throttled OR capped.

hopefully there are network updates/upgrades being done. this has been the case since friday.
yeah, it's not throttling. they would push you below 500 kb/s if that were the case.
in my city, 500 kb/s is the most we get on T-Mo's 3G.. oh well.
I use around 5 gbs a month, no throttling here
Wouldn't they just shut off your 3g and force you to use edge speeds?

Same issue here - Chicago area. Dropped calls, no service, Emergency calls only and lousy 3G coverage. On G1 and N1. Hoping it's an upgrade....
I seriously doubt t-mobile is throttle speeds. On ATT in la I pull down 2.5 mbps though.
btw are you guys on the android plan?
i doubt it... tmobile has half of the subscribers that ATT does and has just as good of a network... they have no reason to throttle people...

i would say they are better, they know they have android power users and treat us as such, not like childish data wasters like AT&T has done. They also have been recently updating their network that surpasses AT&T soon enough.
^agreed, their network upgrades makes my n1 worthwhile, also I've been with them for about 6.5 years because they're the cheapest and they've got pretty good customer service
I am paying for unlimited data plan (which means staying under top 5% users ).
This month I went on vacation, and my kids used up 2GB on netflix, and now I have data at snails pace for the next 2-3 weeks. Is there any way around this?
I am already upset that they dont have gingerbread yet for this phone.
Any help? I read that services.jar can be modified... any good guide for first time users? or anybody can help?
Thanks.
Im having the same problem my internet is so slow now im about to cancel my line with att

I am sure one way would be to change to a 4GB plan by paying an extra $10...
AT&T is not good at math.. for them "unlimited < 4GB"
All these wireless providers are doing this throttling crap. The all advertise unlimited data, then throttle the data rate at some arbitrary amount of data.
I would call AT&T and tell them to unthrottle you or you are going to go to Sprint or Virgin Mobile.
Actually, if I had it to do all over again, I would go with Virgin Mobile or Sprint. My next phone will not be an AT&T or Verizon phone.
The only reason I used AT&T was because Verizon and Sprint dont work in my wife's office.. Their service is still horrible everywhere except her workplace. I had hoped iphones may have helped AT&T, but seems Apple made most of the money
So I was just sharing that I did manage to get T-Mobile up and running even though it was a pain in the butt to figure out the first time. The first issue I had was I had to get the SIM unlocked, which is always the hardest step it seems for everyone. I used unlock4moto.com per everyone here and the annoying thing was they have a PayPal payment system and they don't take Walmart Moneycards. So I had to wait until I got my paycheck to get it paid. Then I got the code before I woke up so I tried using it using the T-Mobile SIM I bought from a cheap T-Mobile prepaid Wal-Mart phone and it worked and didn't say anything about Subsidy just that it was unsuccessful. The biggest problem I had was that I would try flashing the radio and it said it was unknown, which was just a matter of me forgetting to flash the build.prop. After that, it was smooth as cake.
So if you are wanting to try this but not sure, it's not a bad idea. The biggest problem is the 2G is slow as heck but switching to Straight Talk would fix that but that's $45 a month instead of $30.
Same here. I'm on the 100 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data for $30/month plan. I had the $25/month plan on Virgin but I needed a good qwerty phone.
With the spectrum swaps they're doing, hopefully T-Mobile will roll out faster data on the compatibile bands in more areas soon. I'm in Portland, and at least I get pretty consistent rates up near the top of 2G speeds.
T-Mobile is launching a new sub brand, which offers $45/mo prepaid with unlimited voice, text, and 5GB "high-speed" data. It might be a interesting option for people who need more minutes than T-Mobile's $30 Monthly4G 100min plan, but don't want to use Straight Talk.
https://www.gosmartmobile.com/
When would they be available? I called there customer service and they are not active yet. They said micro sim phone might not get all the features like regular sim phone. I have nexus 4 which is micro sim hmmmm
I am interested cause its unlimited talk text and 5gb of hspa+42 data for 45. I am using straight talk right now.

This is a good deal. Sticking with the $30 plan since I don't use much minutes
They are only doing a test launch in a few certain cities for now from what I hear.
sent via xda premium with Nexus 7 or Nexus 4!
Sounds pretty equivalent to the $70/month prepaid plan I just signed up for yesterday.

I just read the fine print at the bottom of the page you linked to, and they consider 'high speed' web to be 3g. The $45/month plan is 5gb of 3G, then its goes to 2G
Was going to post this, glad I did a search!
If we can figure out what the microSIM issues are, if any.. I might move from the $30 plan to this, at least for my girlfriend.. VoIP's working but this is still cheap enough to be rid of all the headaches.
It seems like ordering a kit isn't restricted to any markets at the moment.. not sure if I want to be the first to take the plunge
definately sounds like a good deal. if ST AT&T doesnt work out well this month ill be definately switching to this next month. just wondering if it will be 3G UMTS or the full HSPA+
Hmm this is very intriguing. I just recently got on a straight talk plan and have consistently used over 100mb of data in a day and keep getting throttled to ridiculously slow edge speeds.
Does anyone know if they cap the data usage and if so what is considered maximum 3g speeds? Or does it just not use 4g towers? I have no idea how that works haha.
I don't get speeds over 2mbs anyways in my neighborhood with a "4g" service plan. Hopefully its all the same network and I won't notice a difference.

just curious, how many times did you have to go over 100mb in a day to get throttled? and are you on ST AT&T or TMO? im on TMO prepaid right now and theyre pretty straightforward with their data, as in however much you pay for you can use it how ever you want. but im gonna be trying out ST AT&T next week just because TMO reception is a bit spotty around where i live. i use less than 2GB a month and maybe go over 100mb one or two days a month
I'm ordering a SIM card to try out. I'll post to this thread with comparisons to my T-Mobile $30 5GB plan.
While I don't plan on switching from my $30 plan, I have some family members for whom this plan sounds great.
If they allow full speed streaming up to 5gigs, this may be a decent deal over ST.
If it's not HSPA+ full "4g" speeds, it's meh.
I am in if it's hspa+42mbps unlimited call, text and 5 gb data even better than solavei and simple mobile which they throttle after 4gb of data for 49.99.

yep
so high speed is 3g lol tmobile...
Not bad for those who need unlimited minutes. I wish T-Mobile's service was a tad bit better for rural areas. I use my phone 5x more when over at family functions or clients away from the city (out of boredom, really) and having to deal with EDGE is a pain in the ass. I'm trying out ST AT&T for the first time and have been pleased thus far. If they throttle me, though, I'm flushing their SIM card down the toilet.

Up to 5GB of High-Speed web (5GB at 3G speeds, then 2G speeds for the rest of the cycle).
It's 3G. If you're not even going to read the source, don't post.
I'm thinking about jumping from sprint been with them 10 years. But the service is just getting worst and worst. My question is to the folks that have jump ship how happy are you with the service is it a noticeable difference.
???????
Bad ass note 4
???? That doesn't answer anything. Did u switch from sprint is your data and voice alot better. If not no need to reply
You realize you never stated where you from state town so someone in your area can answer you. Right. We like to help but are not mind readers. Sprint sucks plain and simple. You need to ask people in your area what service is like.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Didnt put where i lived because i was generally speaking no matter the area. But if it helps i am in northern virginia
Well I live in NY and have great service. Have a friend who lives in Vermont and has horrible service.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
I had been with Sprint for 11 years in South Florida. After being tired of dealing with slow data and not having LTE in many areas I did some research. Used Sensorly and OpenSignal. You can use the app or website and see who has stronger service or LTE coverage in your area. FOr me it was T-Mobile and the speeds I've been getting are 30 times better on average. It was a huge difference after switching. I suggest looking at coverage in your area using the sites I mentioned and find what's best for you.
i just switched back to tmobile from sprint and the difference is night and day. bay area, ca my data on sprint is around 7mbps and tmobile is around 70mbps. the voice quality on sprint was so bad and my calls were dropping almost every call. one of the other reasons i switched was the fact the note 4 on sprint can no longer do simultaneous voice and data currently (at least in my area).

Yes! The note 4 supports voice over lte meaning i talk and browse the web with great speeds. But tmobile is gsm so in general yes you have that ability, i switched from sprint three years ago...before they even had lte, tmobile was still 100x better than sprint...i live in west palm beach and we just got wideband lte...and its faster than my comcast speeds.
i left sprint in october. im in los angeles... do not regret going to tmo.
The wifi calling helps with service in the house. Calling in the basement without issues.
In my general area I get good 4G lte service. Though I don't use the data much outside of the house, 1GB plan is fine for me.
For my wife the free unlimited music streaming was a big draw. She tops 3GB per month with that but is on a 1GB plan with no worries.
Sprint was slow to roll out 4G (for the second time) in my area and still hadn't two years into my ltevo contract.
Overall tmobile has better 4G coverage. I pay more money per month though. I had a discount with sprint and the phones were subsidized so it was like $120 per month. tmobile is $140 per month for two phones (iphone6 and note4). If I'm going to pay more why not consider verizon?
Occasionally I go to some more remote areas and I'm waiting to see what the coverage is like there.
Because with sprint I had none. But people with verizon had service.
I was recently in one of those area (outside of gettysburg PA) and while I had bars there was no data service. I couldn't use navigation. I was bummed. But most people didn't have service either. This is why I have a backup gps unit.
I made the jump today sheesh you guys weren't lying speed is killing sprint
its not even just the speed; you will not drop calls any more, and if you want/need it, T Mobile will give you an Asus AC router for wifi calls in your house, for free!
Sprint sucks; I had them twice for a total of 11 years, and after the wimax debacle, I was hoping the "Spark" network would be their saving grace, but it wasnt.
10 months on t mobile, zero issues, great customer service, and never a dropped call..
