[Q] Overcome v2.2.0 HDMI out issue - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hi guys,
I've just bought the hdmi adapter for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 but when I connect the tablet to the tv the image is 90° rotated.
I found in the forum there is this issue in the overcome rom.
Do you think there's any app that let you rotate the tv out?
There is also another strange thing, subtitles in movies are not rotated... I can read them perfectly...

the overcome rom is based on a 10.1 rom, that's why it is rotated, contact the rom developer to see if anything can be made.

Mmmh... ok, I understand that the rom i based on the 10.1... but I do not understand why they should act in a different way. They are both "horizontal" tablets.
I'll try to write an email to the developers, thank you anyway ellokomen

I have the same issue with HDMI out. I also tried the aosp and cm ics roms and still same problem. Did you find anything out? If u did please share. Thanks.

no I also tried to modify the build.prop because there a line which is the ro.hdmi.mirror.enable that could be set to true but I just messed up the system and I had to restore a backup... so, don't try to do it.
I also found an apk called hdmimirroring.apk, but it works on motorola atrix...
so, you are telling me that all the roms have the same problem... oh, i'm sad...

[Q]Nexus Desktop Dock on NXSense 1.26?

Hey all,
First off, I'd like to say i posted this question on evil's NXsense rom thread already, but that thread is pretty dead. I was just wondering if it was possible to regain the nexus one desktop dock bluetooth audio capabilities again.
the only thing i found after searching was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5721627
can anyone confirm this working?

Try it for yourself... just download a Froyo ROM and pull the apk out of it, then install it on your phone with Sense and see if it works.
just tried, i pulled the clock.apk from TheOfficialNexus1 rom, and installed it. so now i have the stock nexus one clock app, but it doesn't trigger the dock to pair with the phone. any ideas as to which apk(s) it would be? i'm determined to figure this out. any ideas as to how to find out? im currently flashing TheOfficialNexus1 rom on my phone and using a task manager to see what new task pops up when i dock my phone.

I have no clue, but thanks for checking. I'd bet that it's a framework issue. I'm not a coder, but it would be cool if someone made an app that triggered the HTC Desk Clock on docking... it's much nicer than the stock one.

Found this on the net long while. Can't rmb where, and I didn't make it. But it works!
but i was playing around a bit with the framework and I managed to achieve the same result without the apk (result as in the deskclock coming up when charging), but still no audio.
so... after a couple days of cooking and testing, i still haven't managed to get the dock working on the nxsense v1.26. however i did find some info like http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=ke...334736426c8b33;hb=android-msm-2.6.29-nexusone
Maybe it's in the kernel + all the files listed at the beginning of the code? if there are any chefs willing to help teach me a few things, i'd like to start cooking for the nexus one. just need a helping hand to get started. i've had past cooking experience with winmo for the kaiser, but thats about it.

[Q] Screen shaking

Hi All,
I am very new to galaxy tab.
I am running on official gingerbread, flashed following the guidelines on the site. Other than a checksum error it went smoothly and working just fine.
I have another problem though. When I hold it in portrait mode, trying to move up and down with my finger causes the screen to shake.
Somerimes more sonetines a little less but it is always there.
In landscaepe mode it almost does not exist, working smooth.
I tried doing a lot of search but could.not find anything on it.
unfortunately I did not pay attenrion if it was hapening on stock froyo, did not stay on that long enough.
Charging or not does not affect it.
Being suspicious about screen protector I rwmoved it but no change
Did anyone else experience anyrhing similar?
Thanks in advance for help.
Same problem here
Hi, I have the same problem here, I did woked on froyo for about a day or two, and the problem was not there, I upgraded to Overcome 2.0 and the problem is now there.
Similar to you, on landscape the problem is less evident, but still there.
In my case, on you-tube application, I don't have any shacking.
I hope someone finds a solution, problem seems to be software-based.
I just checked it, you are right, youtube does not present the same problem.
Lets hope for a solution from the experts.
Cheers
anyone?
this shaking is driving me nuts......the screen shakes so much when held down down that it pretty much renders google maps unuseable.
HELP PLEASE!!!
is it a screen sensitivity issue that we can tweak or something?
i've been googling for a month for answers now but no luck...
please please...
Similar topic in XDA
Hi guys, there is a similar topic here in XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14354988&posted=1#post14354988
I have the same problem in my Galaxy Tab, and I show in a page in fgfaria.com
I now suspect it may be a deffect in some specific feature in some library used by some apps and not used in other apps.
I installed Android SDK in my PC, and created an simple app following a tutorial, with a list of countries that can be scrolled up and down. In this very simple app, the problem doesn't happen, just like youtube.
I've found an app that could potentially solve the problem, but my GT is not rooted, and can't use it. It's called "ILITEK Touch Utility" and it's available for free in Android Market.
Let me know if it's useful for any of you.
Regards,
Fabio
My tab does exactly the same thing as per your weblink.
The app i have download but once i hit the calibrate button, I somehow get denied access.
Any way around it? This shaking is getting old......sigh
Software, not hardware
Hi all,
In addition to touch test apps and youtube app, there are some other apps that don't present the problem. One specific interesting case is the one of the HelloListView tutorial presented in Android Developers website.
I've followed the tutorial, and created this illustrative app that just creates a list and allows you to scroll up and down. This specific app doesn't present the problem we've been discussing. I've made it available for download as apk file in the end of that same testing page (fgfaria.com)
That application being so simple and not presenting the problem, and the other apps that also don't present it, makes me think that the problem may appear when some specific library gets included in an app. Possibly something related to hardware acceleration, for example (just guessing, no specific reasons to believe that).
If only we could isolate the cause of the problem, we could notify Google and/or Samsung and influence a new patch release.
This is as far as I have gone so far. Ideas, reactions?
Regards,
Fabio

Hi Chris, I believe the denied access is because the GT is not rooted. The app must need access to pretty low level adjustments, and only rooting the device would make that possible.
I have the same messages in my GT, but rooting is kind of my last option to solve this.
My current options are:
1) Wait for an official Gingerbread update
2) If that doesn't solve, I'll contact my factory warranty
3) If they deny this is a problem, or if they can't fix it, I'll try rooting and using this app
While the first option is not available, I'll continue my search for another fix.
Cheers,
Fabio

Another possible explanation for the problem not happening in the app from the tutorial is that libraries being used include some kind of filter not used in problematic apps...
mine shakes but not noticable,.. i didn't notice this on froyo
Hi,
Thank you all for responses. I have been searching too but did not find anything.
However I have a theory.
The screen shaking phenomenon does not happen (or unnoticably little) when you are on a dark screen. Web browser included.
Is this your observation too?
Cheers
mine do shake even if its dark, originally i found this "bug" couple of days ago, when im in bed late at night, i initially thought that the shaking was via my finger, and was surprised to see this post a while ago
Note: My tab is rooted because I'm currently running the Overcome 2.0 RC1 rom.
*major headache *
Fully agree! Mine shakes only in light background! Same problem, but in this case, it looks more like a hardware issue than software (intuitively, at least, hardware is more likely to be affected by screen luminosity than software). The solution though, could be a software filter of fast screen movements...
Anyone? There is a solution for Galaxy S (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844216&page=3#). There must be a solution for Galaxy Tab 7 too...
Hi everyone,
Is the same problem happening in the new 2.3.3 asia roms?
Do you have any experience?
Cheers.

Where can the new room be found? I'd like to give it a try, is the Overcome golden 2.3.3 Asia room?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I was referring to official asia roms.
They are available in samfirmware.com but I have not tried myself.
Cheers

Strangest thing.... Was on CNA, decided to try ICSSGS, didn't like it as well so flashed back and calendar was there. I assume because I did not wipe on the flash back to CNA?
FWIW, I have tried this, ICSSGS, and CM9. CNA is my favorite. I have had almost no issues. 1 app won't run, but it is from my small, local bank.

That issue is fixed on ICSSGS and maybe others, I'm not certain if it involves some adjustments ROM-side, or it should be fixed by using latest gapps. I previously encountered the issue but haven't seen it in quite some time.
The alternative would be buying them in the browser/pc.
How To Print Screen
Anyone know how I would perform a print screen?
Nevermind, found the answer (Volume Down + Power Button)
Hi guys,
I'm interested in trying this ROM out.
I'm coming from Serendipity VII, which if I understand correctly is I9000 based. Just to make sure I understand what I'm doing, I should just be able to reboot to recovery, and install the CNA ROM from the zip file, correct? Any other steps necessary?
Thanks

I got it installed (with the Glitch kernel - running at 1.4Ghz so far), and I'm very impressed
The only issue I haven't yet been able to figure out is the external SD card. It seems that it now gets mounted under /mnt/emmc/ ? For whatever reason, the music player can't find the media that I have on the external SD card. Any ideas? I can find it using ES File Explorer and play the files individually.
Privacy
There has been an ever-increasing number of apps which want access to private information (like call logs, location, and contact information) without needing it to run the application. I'm talking about games and not apps which require such information like Anti-virus and such. Will we ever have a permission manager a la MIUI on this ROM? I understand that many developers work in concert, so I am wondering why most ROM's are not created with safeguards in place to protect private information. I am aware that I am not in the MIUI Q&A section, but I feel this is an issue that all ROM's should consider in order to protect private information. I know that I don't have to install apps which ask for this information if I don't want to give up my information, but it seems that every app nowadays asks for these permissions and it would be a shame to continue as if there were nothing wrong with compromising private information to play a game.
Thanks in advance.
I was one if the unlucky ones that had no 3g data after flashing this rom, flashed glitch, moved apn-conf.XML to the /system/etc/ directory overwriting the old file.
This did not bring data back. I decided to look at the apn list and noticed that it was blank. Clicked the menu button, then selected reset to defaults. Ten minutes later I had data.
Lock Screen
Has the lock screen been updated to allow for custom applications where it shows the icon of the custom application instead of that alien looking character? This was one of the reasons I moved away from this ROM and would love to come back. I'm not a fan of having to try to remember which application ties to which alien character.

Not yet. It still shows the animated android.
Nostalgia shows the custom icons on the ICS lock screen. (haven't flashed any other ICS roms yet.)
Update 3/24:
All aosp roms do not show custom icons.
All aokp based roms do show custom icons.
aosp also seems a little laggier than aokp. Playing angry birds space @ 1.3 ghz resulted in click and audio lag. (Gummy charged was my aosp test platform at that time).
Docs runs blazing fast at same speed with no click lag. Aokp m28 clocked at 800 MHz / glitch runs smooth. I think this is because of the scrolling cache which I force disabled in from control.
Thanks for your work bringing ics to captivate.
Any way to disable the proximity sensor in this rom? The thing is the cappy i purchased came with that sensor dead.. This makes the phone freeze while making calls for example.. I'm using right now MIUI 2.3.2 Gingerbread 2.3.7 and I can disable it with almost no effort at all..
Thanks in advance
P.S. Check it out the attachment

Sorry but I don't really see how the rotation would be related to the proximity sensor functionalities. I could try that, but I would be more than grateful if you could explain me a little further the relationship between those two.. Anyways I have to download the rom, nandroid backup, and flash everything to test it out.
Thanks for the reply

you are correct, the proximity sensor does not control rotation. a bit a of a flub on my part sorry.
here are some things I tried with my AOKP rom (don't think the AOSP - CNA is too much different?)
1) There is no setting in the call menu for the proximity sensor.
2) However if you cover your sensor (which is broken anyways right?) a dab of black nail polish, to block all the light from it. I covered my sensor with my thumb and the screen stayed on. However if the problem is deeper within your hardware (possibly the control IC for the sensor), it will still lock up when it tries to access the current state of the sensor.
3) It's possible from what I've found that your sensor is okay, and that there is an internal blockage to the sensor cover. (though, my phone didn't lock up with the sensor covered?). Try canned air/ Vacuum to clear the blockage?
4) There are a several application options as none of the ICS roms I've used appear to have that MIUI option.

[Q] CyanogenMod DPI Issues

Hello, been reading the forums for a while, new to posting in it. That said, I'm not allowed to post in the CyanogenMod 10.1 thread because it's in development, and I need more than 10 posts to post in there.
I have an issues with the screen resolution on my HTC One. It's the same problem as in the post below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41803030&postcount=1120
The buttons and text for certain apps become extremely, extremely small, as if I'm using a tablet. I'm running the latest CM nightly, and so far I've noticed this bug in Google Currents, Minecraft PE, FPSE, Broken Sword, and Canabalt HD. Is there any solution or workaround to this?
I've already read through all 190 or so pages of the CM10.1 thread, and tried changing the LCD density in build.prop. All to no avail. Help please?
So... nothin? No one had this problem? Or no one has a solution?

I have this problem... (although on a Galaxy S2) I was using CM10.1 for a while, then recently tried a few other ROMs out and came back to a fresh clean install of CM10.1 latest release in the past few days and the fonts and the whole screen resolution is weird and fonts seem tiny, icons are smaller - it's just weird. I had flashed back to Samsung stock and that was bigger and more readable as I expected.... so what's changed I wonder?

[Q] No HDMI - solution? App? CM 10.1

I miss the HDMI-function, but do not want to go back to 2.3!
I know that HDMI is not fixed and supported on any ROM that is not stock-based (I have 10.1) but is there a solution on the way,
or is there a app that actually works on PlayStore?
Try with trial version of Ultimate Rotation Control from app store, i don't know if really work but if we don't try we don't know

Widescreen works if you use the app "Rotate Settings" and set it to Landscape mode.
no such app on play store... can you be more precise?
Sorry, my fault, the app's name is Ultimate Roration Control (here).
It's possible to try it out for 7 days for free trial to see it it works for your phone.
The app only helps you to make the correct mirroring from the phone (landscape, portraite), not making you get the HDMI work if you haven't made a proper build.prop with ROM Toolbox on the phone first.
It's all over internet to read about how that is done. Search on buld.prop + HDMI and you'll find a lot to read about it and how it's done. I'm a complete (oh well....) female noob and manage to fix it!
Also I did notice that using the HDMI cable I bought separately did not work as it was too big to fit on my LG P990. It wasn't being connected properly into the contact on the phone, the plastic is in the way to go all the way in!
By a coincidence I then found the original LG HDMI-cable in a drawer and it's a significant difference between the two in size.
Hope this info helps you guys!

Been trying to recreate those build.prop settings you were talking about, but no luck googling those. Mind to just share the build.prop tweaks?
