Is it me or Maps is completely unusable - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Maps takes FOREVER to load.
I used this device up to May of 2011 and decided to throw it away because I spent 30 minutes one day trying to map something to find where my friends were. The phone froze and I rebooted. Took forever to boot and to initiate everything before I could map again. Then a phone call came through and it froze. I rebooted AGAIN.
I got a Nexus S and lived happily til.... I lost it overseas.
I came back to my Milestone which I did keep on CM6 by Milaq hoping that it'd use less memory, but Maps still takes FOREVER to load. I went to CM7 the other day and found it to be about the same.
I'm using the v8 supercharger script on balanced. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm so annoyed because last Friday I was standing in the rain because I forgot to write down the cross street of a restaurant before I went out, but I had to stand there for 2 minutes while my phone loaded maps. If I don't reboot everyday, Google Maps is very unusable. In fact I'm so annoyed I bought a SGS2 phone now. LOL.

Maps uses almost all the RAM available in poor Droid.
Changing any OOM values and/or locking Launcher in Memory is not recommended!
On CM7 both Maps and Camera were unusable with locked Launcher - without it was bearable.
To my surprise using locked Launcher, Swype plus Maps works fine on Miui 2.1.x

the only issue i have with maps on cyanogenmod 7.1.5 on my milestone is the precache did not keeping in stock. Navigation and others stuff works fine, for a too old device, as droid, Milestone.

It's your ROM. I still use my Milestone as a back-up phone and I've tried quite many custom ROMs, but the one that I keep coming back to is Telus Lite, a very light-weight Eclair mod. I haven't tried a snappier or more stable ROM on the Milestone; and it looks good, too.
And Maps works well with it.
Here's a screenshot I took.

(If you install the latest version of the ROM, V5.2, you're gonna need to use the mms.apk from V5. Or simply use V5.)

Well thats the problem i face too. Maps need a lot of ram thats the reason it slows down on CM7 or other roms. Recently i updated to Cyanogen Mod9 ICS edition by nadlabak. and maps is working gr8. and its fast as well.
I have a ext4 Partition to take care of the space. Overall the ROM is awesome (Well its still in alpha stage so bugs to deal with), if you dont use camera much then i suggest you upgrade to CM9 its worth the time.

Sony Ericsson Tracker request

This is my first post, so sorry if I haven't put this in the right place!
I've been trying to get hold of the Tracker program from Sony Ericsson for my X1. I've found it on their website at www.sonyericsson.com/fun under the software link, but not for the X1. I've emailed Sony Ericsson asking whether it will ever be released and have been told in the usual manner that basically "No."!
So on to my point. Do any mightily clever people feel like giving this one a go? I really wanted to use it to take a look at my running route and analyse my progress, but it doesn't work!
Thanks in advance.
use GWatch, it's free and it's a stopwatch as well. you can also upload the gps coordinates from it onto google maps to show your route

SportyPal seem to be WM's way of Symbian's Tracker
Thanks guys I'll give them a go. Sony Ericsson's Tracker has a really nice interface, but I guess as long as the other two do the same thing I'll be happy!
I use trackypro ...

I have been using sportypal for some time now, it is really excellent stuff, that can help you with your running or cycling, especially when you are withoit a gps device.
I use the 'on the road' panel & GPS Cycle Computer >> http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gps-cycle-computer-v3.html GCC is a little awkward as you have to create the maps via Google Earth, but the author has good instructions on how to do it.
I have G-Watch too, but haven't used it for anythign other than a countdown timer and a stop watch.
is the g watch free of charge??? or just trial version???

G-Watch is a freebie.
G-Alarm isn't
I have tried the cycle computer, but I couldn't get him running on my xperia, sometimes it turn on only with showing half of the screen, sometimes doesn't even run properly .
For now the sportypal is fine for me. ,

i use sportypal, too. i have a lot of trouble recording tracks properly on my X1 (r3a-spb mobile shell3). a lot of GPS errors, half recorded tracks. the support is eager to help..but until now the results are far from satisfying..maybe it is a individual problem of my setup. i don't have any hassle running other GPS apps like tomtom, etc.
clueless..
i installed the new version of sportypal..now it works as expected. great app.
a better battery life would be great...gps consumes a lot of power.
On the newest version 1.0.6 it has its own screen management program, that is saving on the power on the screen->and this gives some better batery life.

Why is this killing my battery?? And will scaling CPU down work?? Post root Q's

I recently rooted and while I have not noticed the battery dieing faster the spare parts app is showing media and google apps in network as using up a lot of battery? Does anyone know exactly what it could be? I didnt use the camera, and i have noo music on the phone so definitely no media player. Ive maybe d/l two things from market (they were frozen for quite some time thought) and ive had google talk signed out since i dont use it and to save battery. I do have my gmail on autosync but again this was never this bad w/o root. The only apps i have now that I didnt have before root is autostarts (with somethings disabled) and wifi tether. Some screens below. I am on Cyanogens 3.6.8.1 rom with the newest spl and radio. As of today Im on apps2sd and linux swap but the media folder was definitely like that before partitioning.

Also wanted to know if on this Cyanogen rom if installing one of the overclock apps and scaling the cpu down during sleep actually work on this rom? i tried the overclock widget and set it to 528 528 when screen on and as low as it goes off but i just wanted to know if this is actually working because when i turn the screen on the widget is at 528 (updates every 5 secs) and i dont know if its actually going up to 528 that fast or if its just not underclocking???? Thanks for any help guys
i wouldn't recommend setting your idle speed much lower than your screen on speed because more battery will be used having to go from the lowest speed to 528. the scaled cpu in cyanogen's rom works great for me. i have long quit using any overclocking apps
what rom is it

Cyanoagen 3.6.8.1..and yea ive uninstalled the cpu app
You are not the only person. I have the same exact symtoms, by doing the same thing, with the same widget, on the same ROM.
Good luck, once I unrooted and got the OTA update to CRC1 my battery life is better, but no where close to what it should be. Also I could not hit 100% charged until I unrooted. Now I can whenever the phone feels like it.

Please help me with my GPS

Hi you guys...
I decided to post this because im a little bit tired and worried about some weird bug on my N1's (at&t version, currently being used on Honduras, Central America) gps...
Heres the story...
When i used CM5.X it was pretty accurate, inside and outside of any bulding, then Froyo was released, so I made a nand backup and proceed to flash FRF50 on it... since then, my gps isnt accurate anymore... i tried everything, going back to my nand, with 4.06 and 4.03 radios, wiping (like 25 times), flashing the new 5.08 radio, ive tried unticking the "use wireless networks" on the options... installing maps brut and nothing seems to work...
Here is a little cap for you:

The lack is not that much, but its pretty anoying because originally it wasnt like that.
some thing that ive noticed is that since CM6RC1, my weather app is more accurate, because before it used to pick another location to broadcast... (one town that is located nearby my city...)
I hope you have an answer for me!
thnx you guys!
I am using v2.2 N1. I don't have any problem as you stated.
BTW, how can I replace a build-in battery icon on the status bar to number in %
I have tried many many battery widget or software. It seems no-one can replace the build-in battery icon like you did.
Anybody? Please help!
I just made some tests, heres what i got:

Using maps.google.com (Manually locating and focusing where android's google maps app locates me:

[APP] Minfreemem settings

I have looked around to see if there were any other substantial methods to adjust the way memory was dealt with in the galaxy S. After using the phone throughout the day I do notice it bogging down to a crawl, even to open the messaging app. Now I did read in the development section about the recompiled libdvm.so for froyo. But I'm not getting ahead of myself since the file is still in testing. For immediate results I've been tinkering with Minfreemem.
If you don't know what it is, here's a run down by android central.
http://www.androidcentral.com/fine-tuning-minfree-settings-improving-androids-multi-tasking
It adjusts the way android allocates ram to specific applications running or in background. Now other forums have some information about settings and which is best, but I havent dug up much info for the galaxy. The app itself has presets and those work well. The only thing that bothers me is the presets are a bit outdated and not configured for any specific phone in mind. The screenshot below is just an example of default settings on a phone running HTC sense. My default settings running Quantium 2.7 rom was different.

After messing around for a while and looking up if anyone was using "similar apps" for the nexus S so i can test out their settings. I came only to some japanese site where the translation didnt work out very well...
So here is my settings I been using for an hour, notice the presets do show a lot of empty ram "96" to speed things up without bugging down. I believe that unused ram is wasted ram.
Foreground: 14
Visible: 28
Secondary: 32
Hidden: 32
Content provider: 64
Empty app: 32
with these settings I was able to toggle back and forth from apps without reloading. Especially the gallery, that tends to slow down quite often. Opening new apps was smooth and switching back to threads and contact lists were good as well.
I want to quote the article at android central
I want to stress -- there is nothing wrong with the way Android handles this out of the box. It's efficient, works well every time, and keeps things stable. It's our meddling and the need for instant gratification that is the real issue. Waiting .3 seconds longer never killed anyone. But I'm just as guilty as anyone else, and want immediate results too, so let's do it!
If you have anything to contribute thats "informational" please do.

Help: Verizon 5.1: Phone Getting Hot & Contacts App Slow

Hey guys,
I received the Lollipop 5.1 OTA last week and upgraded from 5.0. Since then, my phone has been regularly getting very warm to the touch, much hotter than it ever has. I installed GSam to regulate the temp and it's typically around 112-113 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not sure what temp it ran at before, but was definitely cooler as it was never noticeable.
I also noticed that the Contacts app is really slow. It takes a while to load. I believe this may also be affecting the Phone app and [Google] Messenger app. They seem to be running slowly as well. Between the heat and the slow apps, it is eating my battery up quickly. I'm getting closer to half a day of life, whereas before it was closer to a full day. Android Core Apps is eating up a good portion of the battery and is typically towards the top of the list. Previously, Screen & Android OS were the biggest culprits.
I tried to do some research on this issue and although I couldn't find too much information, I did read that this could be related to having too many "Google Contacts" and the phone is always trying to sync. I'm not sure if this is an issue newly introduced in 5.1, but I never had problems before. I do have a lot of contacts, as my company runs on Google Apps and I have all of my personal contacts stored in Google Contacts.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to rectify these problems. I've cleared the phone's Cache through recovery and cleared the Cache of the Contacts app. I realize that a hard reset may be my best option, but I'd rather not lose all of my progress in AdVenture Capitalist!
Thanks, guys. Looking forward to thoughts.
Here's some screenshots of battery info. Android Core Apps is killing my batt.
