Need a lil help... - LG Thrill 4G

I switched from the evo to thrill. N i was pretty good at flashing roms n such. But things on thrill seem to be a lil bit more complicated. Whats the best rom to run on thrill without losing 3d? And wats the deal with these basebands everyone is talking about? Thanks all.

I'm new to the Thrill as well, I've found Doom Froyo or Thriller to be the best right now that support 3D if you don't want to have to deal with basebands.
I'm thinking basebands have to do with the frequencies the phone uses or something, it's just what I picked up on. Oh and the nightly of cm7 really eat up the battery so I'd stay away from them for now.

Should be in general not development read the rules

besides the 3d is the thrill as zippy as atrix?

besides the 3d is the thrill as zippy as atrix? i mean i bought a atrix off someone and i liked it wondering is the thrill as peppy? thanks
Its better, I have had both. The thrill is still on froyo, I can't even imagine how it will be with GB. The Atrix was slow on froyo and the thrill is not.

My Thrill is a little slow on Froyo.
It depends what answer you want to hear... If you want to hear the Thrill is faster and better you are in the right place. If you want to hear the Atrix is faster you need to post this exact question in the Atrix forum.
On the other hand if you want the truth you need to get both phones and use them for a week or more. Even the people that say this one is faster, or that one is faster because they had both will still be inaccurate. As you load up the phone with the apps you use, and put it through your daily routine your experience will vary from others. There will always be one phone that does something better than others, but doesn't do something as good as others.

Also rooting your phone, flashing to a different rom can help make the phone faster.
I personally like my lg thrill though. I had the infuse, and the infuse was great... but I love this phone so far, not soo much for the 3D though, I could care less for that. But I was able to trade in the infuse for the lg thrill from a person off craigslist
Regardless, there's also going to be a better phone. But overall I'm satisfied with mine.
Keep in mind it has dual channel ram, but is limited to 512Mb, instead off 1GB.

I have the Atrix, my brother the Thrill. He wishes he had webtop, Gingerbread, and the development that the Atrix has (lots of options). I wish I had the 3D, Landscape HDMI for the games, and the sweet LG Launcher. Both are great phones IMO. The Thrill newer of-course, which is why it's behind in development compared to the Atrix.

Leaked Gingerbread O3D

Hi all. At o3d thread we got a leaked GB last night. Hope some of your devs can make it work for Thrill. All progress on either handset is great

+1 to that.

How to port GB
Does anyone know the steps to make the O3D leaked GB rom work for the Thrill? If there are any experienced devs out there, that maybe dont have the thrill to work with anymore (bc most switched to the SGS2), could give me a walkthrough or an idea of where to start that would be great! I have a machine running ubuntu, an 06 macbook pro w/ OS X Snow Leopard, and an hp running W7 and the Dev release of W8 (dual boot). I have never cooked any ROM before so i dont know what exactly i would need but i am sure i can find that info somewhere on XDA... but, the more detailed any help or ideas, the better!
Hey I have some experience porting roms and building cm7. When my donated thrill gets here next week I will look into this more.

Sweet! I look forward to seeing your work. Welcome to the Thrill.
Excellent! PM me when you start working on it. I will be more than willing to help/test...

It's running...
First backup/write down your apn & mms settings, there are lots of info here on the forums to do this, or an app like this: http://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/apn-backup-restore.
Do a full nandroid backup to your sd card to be safe.
Follow the instructions on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331814 to get the o3d rom running on the thrill, it's a fairly long process, but not too bad.
Replace your APN and MMS settings, 4g disabled, everything else is mostly working it seems, though my wifi is a bit wonky so far.
OOOOR
Wait for a dev to build a solid custom rom!
Good luck!
Do you guys think this'll resolve wifi reception issues? I've been tolerating this crappy phone for awhile thinking GB will solve the battery issues but in the past few weeks I've been doing some business travel to Boston, Dallas and LA the GPS has been completely inadequate on all three trips. It would take up to 20 minutes to get initial GPS signal and then even when it does have GPS it would go in and out of GPS reception every minute or two. I'm so fed up with this thing. Yes, I read the 'GPS fix' thread and had already implemented the 'fix' but it's not any better.
I bought it at Costco, therefore, I'm thinking Atrix2 since the Galaxy S2 is a huge price diff. If I had the option, I'd trade it in for iPhone4S.
GPS has been working well on quite a few users phones, and I can personally attest to the the same. I also haven't had any battery issues with the phone at all. It might be a software issue or hardware, but you might want to try exchaning it for another to isolate it. For me, it has been a great phone so far, and I expect a great GB rom to only solidify this.
My wifi and gps work fantastic... you might have a dud... if its within your month swap it out... it sounds like 25% of these phones have bad bugs...
Seriously this is one of my favorite phones of all time... wouldnt say that if i had those troubles...

Gingerbread has brought some great changes to the infuse for me. Better battery life and overall performance. I would say that the same would go for the thrill. I will be getting my thrill just in time for my Las Vegas trip so I will put the stock rom with root access to the test!

Back to the topic of getting the leaked gingerbread rom running on the thrill.... has anyone else tried the instructions I posted? Would like to hear others results especially concerning wifi...
I might try it later tonight or tommorow... trying to write a research paper on precambrian evolution at the moment though.
i'll try it out and post my results hopefully by sunday though...
Its not looking good for the leaked gb running on Thrill. The rom itself will run but Apparently LG changed the baseband for gingerbread. You can install the o3d baseband and you will probablly be able to call/text. But you wont be able to use data. I NEED my data connection for sending emails out in the field so that's a big no-go for me.

What rom should I get for my LG Thrill?

Hey everyone... finally got myself a thrill last night It is amazing!! I rooted it with superoneclick and put cwm on it already but now what rom should I get? I read that the cyanogenmod roms doesn't have working hdmi, and 3d!! Which is what this phone is mainly about. Any suggestion on a stable working rom that doesn't interfere with 3d features or HDMI? Like a gingerbread rom with sense ui port? Or is this phone too new and developers haven't had the time to port it over yet? Thanks for all the answers everyone!

You COULD just check the development threads.

Were just really waiting for a north american release of ginger bread but there are some good ones thriller and doom also if 4g isnt that big of a deal optimus 3d thread has lots of good roms
I did check the development thread but didn't see much rom that is consider stable. I would like to keep everything functional, 4g, 3D, and HDMI. I saw thriller rom but there was something that was missing from it that didn't catch my eye. Also what will putting the rom from the optimus 3d do to the thrill? what feature will be missing.
thrill seeker check that one out it removes all the crap apps that come with the phone and help phone run smother better some have overclocks and new themes
We are essentially asking the same question. Can the Moderators combine our threads? Here's my post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475388
The only bit of advice I have about the different ROMs to share from my thread is that GB baseband and custom ROMs do improve performance but the CM7 is supposedly AMAZING. Anyways... I'm about to put CM7 on my phone. I know I will lose 3D and HDMI but I think I can live without it... after all it is rather gimmicky.
3D is what this phone is all about, I guess I have to wait for mods to explore more on this phone.
I'm about to get a SGS II, so there is another ROM coming up.

thedarklestat, what do you mean when you are referring to the v20c?

Convert LG THRILL TO OPTIMUS 3D

So as many of us know, there are a bunch of GB roms for LG Optimus 3D and i belive just one for the Lg thrill. When i tried installing a GB baseband for my trill, it bricked. To make long story short, unbricking it meant installing LG optimus 3d firmware and that turned my phone into an lg-p920 from a lg-p925. In froyo 2.2.2 , i stood about 400 ft from a cell tower and i was pulling down 5.8mbps and pushing up 1.1Mbps. BUT that wasnt enough. I still wanted gingerbread so things were made easier since every software saw my "thrill" as an optimus 3d. After installing a custom GB rom for the optimus 3d and manually entering AT&T's apn, I am getting descent 3g speeds of 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up from my house. Im not too close to a cell tower, but I will see the speeds when i am close again to the cell tower.
The new gingerbread update also enables 21.1Mbps Backhaul from 14Mbps. If you want to do the same, PM me. If you want to wait for official ginger for the thrill, then its ok.
Just wanted to let you guys know. Ill be making a youtube video with my super bad camera, but i believe you will probably be able to make out the numbers.
Thanks for reading guys. God bless you guys and keep on hacking!
To tell you the truth, the baseband makes very little difference.
I tested each with SpeedTest and I pulled 10mbps down and 2mbps.
It's most likely my location though.

Like you told me, yeah it makes no difference on the baseband
Good day, I'm going to purchase the lg thrill, but here in xda for optimus 3d find everything but for thril dont... IS the same phone? any damage y IF change the baseband? I want to install custom roms like my infuse. any advise?
They are exactly the same. All ROMs are interchangeable between the 920 and 925.

What's a good ROM to go with

Okay so looking at the roms usually I'd use cyanogen on a phone but idk if 3d works on it and well no point in a 3d phone with no 3d now I noticed a few stock roms and read someplace the optimus 3d and thrill at the same similar situation to the optimus v and the optimus s can I flash a optimus 3d ROM with no out of the ordinary worries
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
Well. Frankly that's a question everyone asks at some point. I did it a few times myself. Also why your not getting a flood of replies. There is no correct answer here. The rom you choose should be based on some criteria. My personal criteria is as follows.
1. Battery life: The rom should never suck the battery dry. Keep in mind its dependant in you following the directions on the rom and how you use your phone. I like to see atleast a full day of stock battery life with moderate use.
2. Stability: Tricky to gage. Must follow the Dev's directions to the letter. Test apps in batches and make sure its not the app causing the issue before passing judgment. Also seek help from the Dev.
3. Speed: Not to important as long as it isn't slower than stock and won't mess with #s 1 and 2.
4. Communication : Wifi, bluetooth, and network signal are paramount for me. My thrill replaced my netbook for al my needs. All this must work flawlessly. Keep in mind there is work to be done on your part. Setting APNs and so on. All listed in most Dev's install instructions.
5. Basband: is it comparable with yours? Do you know what you have? Do you know what you need? Read the rom's requirements carefully.
6. Support: as it turns out Dev support can make or break a rom. Roms can be very needy and time consuming. A Dev takes on a huge burden making then offering support for there rom. Its crucial you become involved to help the Dev out so he can spend more time manufacturing awesome for you. If a Dev has ditched a rom understand you venture in to nomans land.
Seeing as we have no clue what your needs are and what you want in a rom. I suggest you pop over in the Development forum and snoop around. Personally The Dark Lestats Kitchen Rom has more than fit me needs. The tutorials he has made taught me everything I needed to know about how to pull the pants of my LG Thrill and have some fun.
Right then thanks sorry I'm not really a noob just having a little trouble getting acclimated a also my requirements are the same but I must have speed and battery is a must

And what about 3d on cyanogen
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
My apologies. I reread that and it did come across assuming you where new lol my bad.
As far as I'm aware most of the Ginger roms have full features ie: 4G and 3D. I did notice that the baseband plays a big part in how your phone interacts between hardware and rom. Just speculation but seems to be the case.
Last Froyo rom I used was the Doomed froyo. Got all the phone features and exceeded my requirements. For ginger rom I did not try cynogen but I went threw 3 others. Lestats Kitchen rom was the only one I could use to meet and exceed my requirements. Its flexible enough you can drop another kernal that is overclocked. I did notice its not the best on V20P baseband (thanks AT&T bleh) . After I loaded the V21D baseband and APNs my phone suddenly had great battery 2 days moderate use, Bluetooth worked stable and I have not had a single ghost call.
I had to try it a few times though. First reload didn't go well cause I didn't follow the directions. After I followed the each "how to" step by step my phone was cured.
In being fare I would note that the issues were fixed after I made the above changes. I haven't tried the previous roms after the change. Thays why I didn't name them. I can't say they work well or not without proper comparison. I would suggest paying attention to the bugs that appear in multiple roms you try. Might just be the baseband and not the rom.
Lestats it the best there are so many options to go with thrill seeker I think was ditched and Acura team is good
