[Q] WTF is Falcon.apk (com.teleca.lgetestapp)? (System app) - LG Revolution

Seems to have too many weird permissions, like:
- Directly call phone numbers, use sip (why? especially sip!)
- Access LGDRM
- Edit+read SMS/MMS
- GPS location
- Full internet access
- SD card access
- Intercept outgoing calls
- Change audio settings, record audio, take pictures and videos (WTF?)
Paranoid about it being some trojan, but I could be completely wrong.
Do you have it on your phone? As /system/app/Falcon.apk.
And why isn't it "com.lge.testapp" like all the other LG system apps? (Instead, it's com.teleca.lgetestapp.)
Can't seem to find anything about it at all on Google... other than http://www.teleca.com, "Mobile technology experts"

I have it too, not sure what it is ... created a shortcut to the apk to run it, seems like some sort of test app for lte/cdma network connectivity???

I guess I asked too soon, I just unpacked the .apk and I'm starting to dig through it now.
You might be right, based on some of the class names used, although other class names are somewhat suspicious looking as well (again, being paranoid).
Got curious on what's possibly going on on my phone after I got an unexpected Gmail access from an IP address in Thailand... during hours that I was not awake...

Thank you. I was going through explorer and looking at all the files, wondering which ones I could delete and what they all do.

Has anyone tried freezing the app to see what happens?

I disabled it manually, so far no problems

apps to monitor data usage

Hi all,
Is there any apps that can be used as monitoring the data usage of each application? i.e. google map using how many kb, Meebo IM using how many kb, etc etc..
thanks first.

It would be a great idea.
because, there are always some background data transfer but I never know which apps are doing that. It is especially important for users like me who do not have unlimited data plan.
there is also netcounter .
Ultra thanks for the info on NetCounter. From a glance it's nice app. With beautiful UI too.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post :-(
Don't mention it , anyway there is also APNdroid which prevents your mobile from accessing the network .

Thanks for the tips.
Yeah, I also have the APNdroid to shut down the mobile internet.
However, my thought was to monitor the data usage by "applications" so that I know which application is going what and the Netcounter only monitor the data usage by "Wifi" or by "mobile internet 3G".
I don't really need per application usage, thus NetCounter is good enough.
I love to see NetCounter to expand its functionality to optionally monitors applications' usage too.
You can also use droidwall to block an individual application's internet access. I do not have an unlimited plan too, and to me this works better than monitoring each application.

Hi Schi,
Did you ever have any luck finding an app for this? I'm looking for the same thing as something on my phone is downloading about 500mb a day and I haven't a clue what! It only started about a week ago

exactly, I have similar problem but not as much as yours.
but this kind of app is really necessary but yet no one developed it, at least i haven't found out.
please look out together and let me know if you find something like that.
Using droidwall I've narrowed (I picked it early, it kinda stood out ) the culprit down to application 10019:Camera, Media Storage, Download Manager, DRM Protected Content Storage.
So I've now got droidwall blocking that app for 3G and allowing it on wifi and I just turn on wifi when I need download stuff that requires that app.
I've been searching for this too and finally found something. There's a paid app called "Network Statistics" that does per-app data since phone startup. It's 50p.
However it won't start on my Milestone (2.1, rooted) so... Well at 50p you can give it a try I guess.
Cheers, I'll give it a go.

[Q] Remote GPS Activation / SMS GPS Enabler

Hi everyone,
Okay this might be a dumb question but I'm going to ask. Is there a way to remotely enable/activate the GPS and WiFi on my Android phone through a text message? I currently have GPS Tracker, Lost My Droid, Real Time GPS Tracker, Seek Droid, SMS GPS Enabler, and Where's My Droid installed on my phone to try and remotely turn on my GPS and WiFi. The problem is that yes sending the text to my phone and have the sound go off for Where's My Droid and Lost My Droid works, but the problem is having my GPS and WiFi turned off on my phone and not hearing because its not there. Yes, their are plenty of good apps that let you track your phone if your GPS is on, but they do not allow you to turn on GPS and WiFi through (SMS) text. So all and all, is there an app or apps that can do this for me, so I can do what I want to do?
Any information would be helpful, instructions would be better lol.
Thanks, II

I am the Dev of seek droid. Why leave the GPS disabled? It really does not conserve that much battery. Enabling the GPS does not leave the GPS turned on or even give the GPS any power unless the application you are using requests GPS.
Go pick up tasker from the market, and you can create a profile to have it enable gps whenever you get an sms.
You should probably have taker already anyways. It's a beast.

For some reason on my phone if I leave the GPS enabled it will drain out my battery in a few hours (8hrs). Where as if I turn GPS off, my battery has lasted up to almost 16hrs which is double and it is the only setting that I have changed.

Thanks for the advice pizz0wn3d. I will look into Tasker and see if it works for me and what I need it to do.
f you don't see the satellite dish in the notification bar then it really shouldn't use any battery, even if GPS is enabled. If you have location stuff turned on so the GPS is being used (i.e. you see the satellite dish in the notification bar) it will use battery.

Let me know and I can send you the profile I use. It makes the phone talk (alerting them that gps is being remotely enabled to track the phone down) and sends a confirmation text to the number that activates the gps. Then you can use "wheres my droid" or whatever else to track that S.O.B. down.

Thanks, pizz0wn3d that would be great! I looked up Tasker, it has a great many features that I can see paying for, but did not see the remote GPS activation/enabling in its description, on their website, or wiki. If you can, also send me the direction on how to set it up to do it. I might whined up missing something up with 190 options. But can always re-ROM if need be.

Bob, I do know this. For some reason my Map app starts up on its own and launches Latitude causing my GPS to activate and stay on. I don't want to uninstall Maps or Latitude because I do use them. Its easier to just turn off GPS then hassle with trying to find the source of the problem, in truth.

Well the way my profile is set up, whenever I receive a text with a certain phrase in it, it'll turn on the gps. Along with a few other things
It's not one of the advertised features because it's just one of the many things you can do with it.
I'll try to post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
Edit: This oughta work. Import this into tasker.
http://db.tt/D7u8eKw
It should be able to import after you paste the xml file into:
/sdcard/tasker/profiles
Then just hit menu -> profile data -> import one profile

If you use Latitude, it will be on all the time and cause battery drain because it needs update your location 24/7 even if Gmaps is not used. You don't have to uninstall it. Just make sure you log out of Latitude if you don't use it.

Alerting them sounds like a bad idea. I envision a battery pull or a phone being tossed out the window of a moving vehicle.

You don't reply to private messages do you pizz0wn3d? Questions are, Is there a site to download prebuilt profiles for Tasker? Second, What are the features to have your phone go to lock screen and ring remotely. Mine aren't working that I built.

Oh sorry, normally I do but I haven't been on xda outside of the app in a few days so I haven't been able to look at my messages.
There is a wiki on the app that has a bunch of different profiles you can try out, as well as a couple of tutorials to get the hang of making profiles.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about going to the lock screen, as idk if it's possible to do that though tasker. I'll mess around and see what I can find.
What exactly are you trying to do that requires you to go to the lockscreen and play a ringtone?

Well for the lock screen; I was trying a remote lock down after I enabled the GPS tracking, so they could not turn it off, other then removing the battery of course. The only thing I can do right now is, set screen time out to 7sec. which is the smallest amount Tasker allows. The lock in Tasker is a joke because if you click on the notification bar at the top and select something you can bypass the lock, even in full screen mode.
As for the Ringtone/Ringer; I was trying to setup the phone to ring when people text me, similar to that of Where's My Droid, but with a twist. When I get their text, the assigned ringtone under their contacts or from file would play, that way I would know who it was without having to look at my phone every time. For this one in particular; do you or someone else know how Where's My Droids setup works? Then I can try to base it off of that. From what I can tell, it tricks the SMS into using the the ringer system and not the notification system. So a bait and switch from SMS Receiver to Cell Receiver. That's all I know for now.
Thanks for the link! I'll go through it to learn some more about Tasker.

I've never tried to set up a remote lock through tasker, I just had it set up to enable the GPS so I could lock+retrieve it via wheres my droid/lookout. But i have heard that the tasker lock down was pretty weak >.<
I actually never realized the phone didn't support custom tones for contacts outside of the calling ringtones. That actually sounds pretty difficult to implement via tasker. You would first have to disable notifications from your sms app so the tasker profile wouldn't just play a sound over that one. You'd also likely have to create a separate profile for each contact that you want to have a custom sms tone for.

Using Dell Streak 7 as phone

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED
Ok so I found a couple of web pages that spoke of finding hidden
settings in the devices build.prop. But, even with this hack it will
still not make calls or receive them. Me being me i didnt even wait
I went straight to it and saw the phone options disabled.
Its located in the /system folder ,
I used root explorer so edit the build.prop , look for a line that says
ro.telephoney-disabled=true and you want to change that disabled
to enabled so it should read ro.telephoney-enabled=true
after this root exelporer makes a backup of the original , after that give
the streak a reboot and when in the dell stage UI you will see the phone
icon at the bottom now...
as we know theres nothing you can really do with it at the moment but, I have been looking over at the galaxy tab phone hack and that lead me to looking into the file system and I a couple of things like in the /system/framework folder there is a .jar file named "com.oem.networksetting.jar" in there it contains a classes.dex file that when opened in a text editor I see things like "networksetting.java OFFSET" and "areacode OFFSET" just a lot of things OFFSET ...any iedas any thoughts are welcome

I have found the solution to use streak 7 as a phone without using any root, just go to market and install apk installer, then find the attachment file Viber_2.1.6.632.apk on this post download it and save it on your streak 7 internal storage and find it with file explorer it will be in the download folder of your streak 7, this works also with all tablets that cant install viber via market and install it and follow the setup process after that you will be able to use your own carrier gsm number to call even international calls by using your data plan, try to add me on your phone book and call my number for testing +255776553398. or +255773044899 all your phone book contacts who are using viber you will see them and you can call them and sms them for free and then can call you and sms you.
Please donate if this works for you im sure this will work 100%

HBOGO....

just released, it works on my Incredible with AT&T, anyone try the Xoom? I know they are working on a honeycomb version but was hoping it may work on Xoom if you pull the apk
I was able to use the web browser version. It is a flex application, so it runs flash. Gets laggy sometimes if they're sending high quality video, but it is watchable.

here is the apk
Thanks! It's working on my Droid X. Couldn't find it on market for this device...
The only problem is that I don't want to pay for HBO and extra data. If I'm in the position to get WiFi, I'm probably in the position to watch TV. Sounds like a good thing for subscribers at a hotspot. I hope it works great.

Wouldnt work for me... maybe someone can modify it...

This came out before its release date and they got the android support way faster than I thought they would... looks like HBO has their **** together, so I don't think we'll have to wait very long for honeycomb support. App runs great on my epic, quality is better than you'd expect for streaming, really looking forward to this on my xoom.

I've heard that on the Xoom if you go to hbogo.com you should be able to use that until they release the tablet app. However, when I go to that site I can't do anything. It has 4 squares: "On Your Computer" "On Your Ipad" "On Your Iphone" and "On your Android Smartphone" but none of these do anything when I tap them. I don't see anywhere to log in either.
Website works for me.... but id like a app

i cant watch from browser either, which browser are you using?
On the HBO website from Xoom, you have to use another browser, like Dolphin, and specify a desktop agent in settings. That will get you past the page you are referring to, but, I am not able to log in to my directv account - the window inside the page doesn't allow text entry.
Or in Xoom browser, in the address bar, type debug:about, then go into settings - set UA to desktop. This allows you to get past the initial page, but I can't type my Directv login information in the popup window.
Anyone able to get around this?

I don't have a Xoom. Just the OG Droid. I also get the message that it isn't supported on my device. I read a thread that said that putting my device in airplane mode before opening the app, then launching would throw a network error. At that point, taking my phone off of airplane mode and then trying again lets me use the app.
That got me thinking there must be something calling home reporting my device model. I set my phone for WIFI and I had my router log what URLs were being called right before the failure. The one that stood out was this one:
catalog.hbogo.com/apps/mediacatalog/rest/settings.json?category=an
So I had my router block that specific URL. Presto, damn thing works on OG Droid with no issue, at least on WiFi. Is there any way that URL can be blocked on the our devices instead or can the APK be modified to not call that URL?

Could modify hosts file like ad-blocking does

Won't work as the app has other things it needs from that site. Blocking the URL itself though does the trick though.
Take care...

in DD-WRT, it apparently still gets through as my Xoom says "not supported"...
Am I'm supposed to use something other than entire string?
i got it working with dolphin HD in desktop mode.
Jwb
Does anyone know for sire if they are indeed working on a honeycomb compatible app?

Is there is a browser app that works on Android Auto?

Not a high quality post, but wondering if there is a browser app that works on Android Auto?
Any list available with all (unsupported) Android Apps?
Thx!
I highly doubt there is such a thing, especially since Google wants to keep Android Auto distraction-free.

It's funny, but in my case having no browser (even a text based interface from the phone/chrome would be grand) actually makes AA *more* distracting for me, as for work I travel from address to address for service calls, and my route is all accessed through my phone via chrome. As it stands, without AA, I have a nice big button in chrome that I can tap that will automagically load up the next customer's address in google maps, but in AA I have to unplug from USB, pull up my browser, look down at my screen, and memorize the address I need to go to next, then plug the phone in, launch AA, 'ok google xxx address' and proceed. It's a very similar process when I need to call ahead to let the person know I'm coming. As terrible as it is, I do not have the patience to pull over every single time I need to do this.. it would be far less distracting if I could have the cover page on my screen, tap the nice big buttons for maps and calling ahead and just carry on with my day!
I'm not saying you would lecture me on this, but just in case you (or anyone reading this) would, I *understand* that I shouldn't be doing this while driving, but I'm but human, and very flawed, and when I have an easy option to pull over I usually will, but when I don't, I don't, so support for this would be *much* safer.

There is a basic browser app inside. I couldn't install it (throws me an error) but maybe you'll be luckier.
