Please insert SD card - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well i installed GingerDx v022 + addons for stock, when i try to enter the music it says : SD card is not inserted... i tried to factory reset and other things but nothing helped me, or i even try to mount SD card its not recognized.. Help

Well try to start your phone withou card and then insert it, you also can try to install rom again( did you do full wipe before and after rom installation, of not you should), and also backup your sd and format it....

Well i tried without card too... and i installed rom several times, yeah i wipe it before but not after, because if i install ginger and wipe it after installation it will be erased?
Btw how to backup up and format card?

No, the Full-Wipe does not erase the SD card. It just clears out the data partition and the dalvik cache partition.
As for backing up ...
Since you said your phone does not recognize the card you can't backup through mass storage mode.
Turn off the phone, take out the SD card and put it into a mSD card reader (if you have one).
Then backup the contents onto your computer (simply copy them over).
Once your data is backed up you can actually use Windows to format the card (FAT32!!!).
On related questions:
Did the card work with the Stock ROM?
What kind of card is it? (Manufacturer, Size and Class)

Well i will try and i will reply u soon,
Btw : Sankdisk micro SD 4 GB
Card worked with the stock rom and AtiFroyo v5

Ok, so far we hadn't any reports about Sandisk mSD giving trouble; just one Verbatim mSD and some Kingston Class 6/10.
As you wrote it worked with AtiFroyo - any chance you were using that ROM with the Alfs kernel (contrary to the "installed GingerDx v022 + addons for stock" you wrote in the OP post)?

No, It is Stock kernel while using AtiFroyo and everything worked just fine

Well its not card, since i own sandisk 4gb card and its in my phone.....just format your card and try with empty card, just put it in your phone and see would it rcognize it or no.....Or try flash custom kernel..maybe it would solve your problem, since you are using gdx alfs kernel is best decision

Well i tried to format and everything but still says : your phone does not have an SD card inserted.. annoying :/, but i dont get it why everything works fine on AtiFroyo.

The last thing that comes to mind ...
Any chance you made a mistake at flashing GingerDX? That might explain that weird problem ...
GingerDX requires to be flashed through ClockworkMod recovery. If you flashed the ROM through xRecovery, and it booted, weird malfunctions are to be expected.

Nope i flashed it through CWM recovery ...

I know thats its a silly question but did you use cwm when you install gdx or xrecovery,?! Coz it should be installed via cwm, if you had unlocked bootloader instal custom kernel and see, or try to install any other rom, like FroyoPro and see does this prblem solved if it is try to flash gdx over it again

I used cwm to instal gdx....., i cant unlock bootloader because battery is 11W38..

Well, in this case you better consider dsaklein's suggestion to maybe try Alfs (in case your phone is safe for boot loader unlocking) instead of the Stock kernel.
This seems to be one of the rare weird problems where something that's supposed to work simply won't work ... rendering one out of ideas.
As for the "safe boot loader unlocking" ...
Turn off the phone, take out the battery.
Look at the sticker below.
If the date code reads 11W29 or later (11W30, 11W31, ...) don't even try to unlock the boot loader - you would only join a meanwhile large "club" of hard bricked devices.

Ok, you guys posted quite fast ...
If you can't unlock the boot loader then at least try another Gingerbread ROM (not requiring a custom kernel) ...
In case the problem persists we at least know that there's a compatibility problem with a SanDisk mSD and 2.3 series ROMs.
EDIT: Yes dsaklein - I read that you're using the same SD without any problems. My thought is it might have to do with the revamped hardware of the 11W29+ devices.

Maybe if i buy a new SD card maybe will resolve the problem?, Or can u give me a link for another Gingerbread ROM to try?

Stornmix is popular among a good amount of users.
As for a mSD ... I'm using a Kingston 8GB Class 4 on a 11W06 device with GingerDX v022 on Stock Kernel just fine.

I Think that i will stick to AtiFroyo its running perfect on my phone! Thx guys!

Hey guys now i'm on FroyoPRO v24 and its working fine, everything is good , but still i dont get it why gingerDx doesn't work for me );

[Q] Internal SD Dead. is there a way to convince i9000 to use the external SD instead

Hello,
firstly, i am very sory for posting this two times as i already posted this in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882822&page=4
Please do not flame me.. i'm only doing this because i'm getting desparate, and maybe it could, to some extent, help some of you to at least make your phone usable as a dumbphone.
I have a problem with my internal SD.. it's very complicated how it came to all this so i'm going to give you a short version..
I've had the phone for over a month now using darkys roms (with voodoo enabled) and then my cat peed on the phone which resulted in me opening it up and cleaning it with alcohol as it went into a restart loop. the phone then booted into recovery but i couldn't mount the sd card.. i then used the JPU 2.2.1 firmware and instaled it with odin. and it worked.. i could access everithyng normaly, but then:
I tryed to do a wipe version of darkys 8.0 and the phone froze when installing.. afterwards i tried to install a stock 2.2.1 JPU firmware and it kept restarting, then i tried the 2.1 again and after the boot animation it booted into a black screen with buttons working (LED).. after some research i installed 2.2.1 again and used speedMod 256 Hz with odin.. now it boots normaly to the system but the internal sd can't be mounted any way so i cant install any apps or use the camera, etc.. it's strange, cause i can't even mount the external SD not in the system and not in recovery (clockwork or e3) (it seems the ext SD is recognised only as a subfolder of the internal SD.. it sucks) so i can't format it.. i still have some hope because the phone boots every time i flash speedmod over 2.2.1 firmware and works as "normal", even if i restart (except some settings not being saved like my google account info..
I guess i hope there is some way to make the phone recognize the external SD card as it's default with some custom kernel, that is why i posted in this thread..
My phone is Europe I9000 non carrier version..
If someone can help me i will be extreemely grateful!
Thanks

if you have missed the post .
I tryed to do a wipe version of darkys 8.0
I would try a install of stock Eclair and nothing else first .

Pls help me flash a clean Vanila ROM...

Hi All
Received my LG 2X today and so far no random reboots or freezes etc except ONE reboot when I tried to install Swype keyboard but that was before I updated to V10D via LG's software update. Hope it stays that way!
Anyway I would like to install a clean Vanila 2.2 or if available a 2.3 ROM but I have never flashed a Android phone before.
I understand I will have to first root my phone which seems easy enough but what do I need to do after that?
And what if I want to go back to the stock LG ROM, is there one availabe or will I have to back it up somehow?
If someone would be please kind enough to provide a step by step guide then I would be most grateful or even just post links to what I need to do/install in the correct order that would be great.
Many thanks.
Hey,
It's actually not that hard .
First root your phone
Do you have an external sd card in your phone?
If so go to the market and download:
Rom manager> when you open rom manager click the flash button
Make sure you allow superuser
When the phone is flashed you can start downloading roms
And put them on the external sd card.
Then reboot into recovery via rom manager or reboot the phone during startup using power + vol down
The recovery menu is pretty straightforward.
Make a backup then do a full wipe, on my first install i wiped every thing in the menu with wipe in front of it
After this click install rom from sd card and then find rom on sd card
If something goed wrong you can go back to your backup, so just give it a try
P.s. Damn thats alot of work on the phone to type
@other ppl please tell me if i forgot something

About the External SD Card, i could not flash any rom from external..
only from internal SD card..
I believe thats not possible, if you click something like inatall zip from sd card it should go to ext card?

[Q] Challenging technical issue

I have a problem and i would be very thankful if anyone could help me solve it:
I looked around the guides here and on youtube and found out that installing a custom rom is much better than sticking with the original gingerbread, so that's what i did. I tried RocketRom for a while and decided that i want to try checkrom to see which is better. So i downloaded the rom, performed all the wipes (cache, dalvik and battery stats) and reset the phone to factory. However due to my immense stupidity i forgot to put the rom on the internal phone memory and i saved it on my microsd card instead. so now i'm stuck: I can't access my internal phone memory because my phone won't start (either bootloops or it shows the boot animation once and then a black screen with nothing on it). And i wasn't able to use CWM to flash the rom using my microsd card because it keeps giving me the error "unable to mount". I looked around again and read that i should format the microsd card but nothing changed and i kept getting the same error.
So this is basically it. Is there a way to access the internal phone memory with my phone turned off? If not, what should i do? I just need to paste the damn rom but i couldn't figure out what to do :S
Any suggestions will be very very appreciated, and thank you for your cooperation

Seems like you have issues with CWM as I can access the external sd card without problems..
I think that your only solution is to:
-flash a pre-rooted GB ROM from THIS thread
- Use Chainfire's corresponding kernel to the ROM you flashed so you can get CWM recovery, get it from HERE
- after having both rooted ROM and the CWM recovery transfer the ROM you want to the sd card and flash it from CWM Recovery
Hope this helps
thanks
Thank you for the prompt reply, but i am still quite confused: how can i flash a rom if my phone does it boot? how will i get the rom to the phone memory? Remember the microsd card isn't working so i can't use it for flashing.

Are you able to boot in recovery? (3 buttons combo)
From there, you can try to clear cache/dalvik and reboot (booting will take a while).
Another option would be to try to mount the your SD through recovery, backup your files, get in download mode, flash KK4 with Odin one click, flash corn kernel with Odin 1.85 and finaly, get back on Slimbean as per their instructions.

So you flashed KK4 already? If not, you should.
As for flashing a ROM with Odin, you'd need it to be packaged for it (or made into a one click). Before flashing a new custom ROM, you'll need to fix your SD card problem.
If you're able to connect your SD card to your pc, backup it's files, format it and try it again.

This is my friend's phone, so i dont know it had EU screen or not. I flash KK4 but it is bootloop, i try KF1, KJ2, bootloop. Yesterday KF1 work but today it doesnt, Only JF6 working now. Its still not detect internal memory, and i must put a external SD card in to make it work.
IF i see EU screen then my internal SD gone ? I use captivate too, so im very worry now.
Thanks for helping me
i dont want to use SD anymore so i think it is not necessary to format or backup it. Captivate can work well without a SD card.

Well first step would be to ask your friend if he got the EU screen. If so, follow the guide to recover from it.
You will need the bootloaders version of KK4 now as JF6 flashes old bootloaders. If Odin doesn't work, you can try Heimdall (know that Odin won't work on the same USB port as Heimdall, due to Heimdall flashing it's own drivers to that USB port).
I'm not sure what you mean by having to put the external SD card to make it work, do you mean that the internal SD works when the external is in? If so, copy it's content to your pc or external SD while you still can as you might need to completely wipe it.

I ask him, he said that he saw a black screen, he press power button but it did't work, then he put out battery then the phone was stucked in semaphore screen. When he give me his phone, I try to restock it using odin and JF6 . Thats all.
I mean that if external SD is put in, then phone then boot successful, if not it will bootloop. When using phone, it say both internal and external is unavailable, if i put out external SD the phone turn off immediately.

That sounds worse than the EU bug.. But I would still try their fix so follow their guide. Hopefully it helps, one thing though, EU is a ICS bug and you were on JB so there's something missing here.. Was there any changes or mod made before the black screen? Tried to install something perhaps?
As for JF6, it should never be flashed anymore as it flashes the old bootloaders. KK4 is what you need (GB 2.3.5) and since you flashed JF6, you'll need to reflash the GB bootloaders, so Odin KK4 with bootloaders.
So here are your next steps:
1- Find out what exactly happened before the black screen
2- Try to flash Odin KK4 (with BLs)
3- If it doesn't work, try with Heimdall KK4 with bootloaders (Use it on a different USB port)
4- If all of the above don't work, follow the EU bug guide
Thanks alot for your help, i will try tomorow, then i will report.

[Q] help me with Ultimate_N7000_LSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 restart problem

Updated 4.25.13
the solution is very simple.just format the sd card and everything should be fine.thanks for everyone who helped me
Hi guys
this is my first post and I hope you guys can help me,I already searched the forum for similar problem but no luck
I installed Ultimate_N7000_LSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 ROM and it was perfect for the 1st day then I realized that my phone keep restarting on its own when the screen is off, sometimes at 30 mins interval or even more.the phone don't show the boot screens.the screen will always be off when this happens.I also noticed that this doesn't happen when my phone is charging
another problem I'm facing is at times when i try to unlock my phone it stays black for a while until it can respond
a third problem is when I unlock my phone it will show in the status bar the message "sd card was removed unexpectedly" and then say "preparing sd card" .then it won't show the contents either in the gallery or the music player but I can still access them from file explorer
sometimes when it restarts i get a code on the status bar instead of the service provider (pic provided)
before I installed this Rom I was on official JB UAE version which I flashed using Odin and then I rooted my phone using PhilZ-cwm6-JPLSB-UAE-4.89.4
I wiped everything before installing it,Full wipe /data/factory reset /cache and dalvik.Format /data /system and /preload
please help me urgently
test with the SD card removed.. also try another battery... the code could be the code of the provider and name not being displayed.. if all ok go back to stock rom after all wipes and formats and test again

I'll try using it without the sd card
but what about the restarts???????
not sure. i have used that rom for a while and didnot face that problem.. are yu sure you did not have that restart issue when on stock rom? try flashing another rom will check if the downloaded rom has issues or not..
I'm sorry but I'm new to all of this.this is my 1st ROM ever
so I can flash any official JB ROM through Odin on top of this custom ROM after wiping everything? and then install the custom ROM again?

Yes. After flashing the stock rom, you will need to root it and get CWM. best will be to flash Philz kernel to root it.. then you can get back to custom rom again..
before you flash the stock rom boot into recovery (Philz recovery)
- Choose Wipe Data > Clean before install a new rom. (this will clean the rom. and phone will not boot after this step as there will be no rom)
- Advanced > reboot download > connect to pc and use odin to flash the rom

so if i flash an official Rom i'll lose the root?
does it matter what official JB ROM i use?
should I use the same Philz Kernel I used before to root the phone?or there is a better version?
Yes after flashing using odin you will loose root. Flash Philz kernel for JB close to the rom you installed like DDLSC or XXLSZ
The reason for your problems could be a defective sd card. Does the error persist without the card?

Seems like ur sd card is dead. You can also try a clean install of the new rom LT4 since it is a bit better than all the previous crappy jb release =)
thank you guys
I removed my sd card since yesterday, and since then everything is fine.no restarts or battery drainage.the ROM works like a charm
I'll try to format it and see what happens. unless it's corrupt for good
I really appreciate ur help.big thanks :good:
Thanks again for ur great help
the problem is completely solved,I formatted my sd card and everything is working fine.the ROM is awesome.better battery life and very smooth
