Music Lags - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to solve this problem? I dont remember that the whole phone lags when I am using the stock rom.. Is it because that that is in low memory and it's a Gingerbread rom?

Yes, gingerbread rom uses many memory, try to end useless process or use task killer.
Scale ur sdcard cache according to ur sdcard class speed.
And use overclock that suited you.

I had the same problem, the problem was the sd cache. I changed it to 512 KB and now music plays without lags.

Thanks...
One more question please..
What is the perfect sd cache for memory card class 4 (16gb)?
Sent from my W8 using Tapatalk

I have 16 gb class 6, 2048 KB and 1024 KB produce music lags. I find 512 KB optimum and can recommend this value. If you still have problems try a lower value. The minimum should be 128 KB, if you still have lags then try to close/uninstall some apps which run in background. OC is not necessary because music play-back needs only 245 MHz.

Thanks! I will change the sd cache tomorrow and report back. Bye..

Okay...
So I tested it. I changed the cache to 512. Then I reboot. The phone lags less when playing music, but still laggy. Anyway thanks. I am still searching for a way now...
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

Try 256

I tried! Yeah, now with only a little bit of lag! Thanks, Nikkopt...

[Script][CWM] SD Card reading speed fix !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello developers !
no points for me, I just bringing here to our development
Many of us are disappointed about the reading speed of the SD Cards on our Android Phones. It doesn't matter if you have fast 10 Class SD Card, it performs very poorly on the Phone comparing how it performs on the PC.
The clue is the Cache size for reading from SD Card. It's set to 128 KB, on some ROM's even to 4 KB!
You can check for yourself your Cache size by looking into this file:
/sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
You can change it manually but it will be reverted to default on the reboot. The changes need to be done permanently by loading the script on the startup through the init.d.
Or you can flash the CWM zip files that I made for you.
You must find which Cache size fits best for your SD Card. In my case its the 3072 KB Cache size.At best, use the Root Explorer to change the value, then run SD Tools Benchmark - finally flash the CWM zip file that fits your SD Card.
Here are two screenshots - the first one shows the reading speeds with the default Cache 128 KB and the second one is with the 3072 KB Cache with my Class 4 SD Card on CM7 RC2 by Charnsingh.
The Benchmark is made with the SD Tools program.
If you want to convince yourself of the speed improvement after applying the fix, just open your Gallery and see how fast it loads the photos!
Suggestion: 2048 KB Cache size performs at best for most of the SD Cards!
Some of the ROM chiefs have hardcoded this values in the init, that can't be changed - only by the chief himself.
Some of the ROM's already contain this tweak in another script that is saved in the init.d folder. Probably it's tagged with the number 99 in the filename to be sure that it's executed at last. You have to change it there.
Rafpigna - the HD2 Android chief - pointed that out over here.
For ROM Cookers - add this line into init.rc file:
Quote:
# sd card read speed fix
write /sys/block/mmcblk0/bdi/read_ahead_kb 2048

[Q] Root question - Speed question

Hi
I have O2x and I'm wondering what you guys think about rooting ?
Should I root my phone?
For now I'm not sure if I want to chage the rom, but I want to speed up phone a little (cpu, memory & sd card).
Is this possible without new rom and only with root?
When I root, do I lose warranty?
I tested a little bit my speed.

SD Card Read: (12.0 MB/S) 120

Please give me your experience.
What are your test results and with what ROM ?
Thank you very much for your time guyz
EDIT:
New test. Stock rom, rooted.
SD card boost, performance pack.

What about other questions ?
tnx
I dont know, i didnt test the phone yet with Quadrant, and i really dont care how much it scores on a benchmark..
It's a phone for gods sake !
Oh and the rom question, i use stock V10A ROM
LauncherPro for launcher and a few widgets like ClockQ for time, thats all
If you root it you may install clockworkmod recovery and apply perfomance pack it makes the phone a bit smoother. I am using v10c with perfomance pack and its really good.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
I tried this pack. It is giving a littke more speed.
What about overclocking?
Can you help me with this
Sent from my LG-P990
Hi,
I definetely recommend you to root your phone. You can use pimp my cpu to OC/UV (overclock/undervoltage) your phone. You'll get better performance and better battery consumption.
And about warranty. You can always unroot your phone
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
rooting i think is always a must, just flash the modaco rom and u wont see the changes, u will just notice the speed
In my opinion oc is not needed but it is your choice! But perfomance pack is compulsary to be applied over stock.

How to overclock it ?
I installed pimp my cpu but it says that I'm not using supported kernel.
I have stock rom installed.
you need ClockworkMod to flash a new kernel, don't ask me which
im still @ stock ROM/Kernel too

What is the best storage location??

Hey guys hope someone have experienced it but i want to know what would be the best storage location for apps? Would the phone run faster if they are in phones memory? Or the sdcard?
Is there any differece about it??
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
It depends on your sd card class a. Class 10 would be faster than internal memory
Thanks for reply.! I currently have 8gb class 4 what would u think? Keep apps on internal memory or on sdcard?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Class 4 is enough for smooth running from sd card, but faster is better!

mine's 8gb class 4 too and it seems fine for me,well apps which has widgets etc shud be installed on internel memory, other apps and games to sd card, install app2sd,it will notify automatically whether the app can be moved to sdcard or shud be left on internal memory

With class 4 there is always problems with your phone recognizing the SD card. Class 4 will work on stock but most of the time it wont work on a custom kernel. I always suggest people to get a class 10. Search the internet you will get it for cheap
Stuff that you have running the whole time you need keep them in memory. With games i suggest putting them on an external SD card. Even if its a slow SD card you save space with your internal memory.
Thanks for the reply guys hey have someone ever tried partitioning the sdcard, and would the phone read the 2 partitions as external storage? Might be a noobi question
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
With app2sd app u create 2 partition, one for storage and one for app2sd.U see one partition(for storage),other is "invisible" because it is for moving apps to sd card.

I have a class 4 16 gb. Its is ok for running games and other stuff. For important stuff, like things that need SU and things you use daily, it is best to keep it in phone memory.

Use ext2 for the second partition. And use app2sd script to make it work =D

[Q] swappiness

Which is best swappiness for 128 mb?
What do you mean 128mb??
Do you have micro sd with 128mb only?!!!!

almost eveyone says that use 128mb swap
i have 256mb swap and use 60 swappiness

Hi , I have a noob question.
Swap is kinda virtual memory. So why don't people swap up to 1GB or 2GB ?
Is it not possible ? If not , why ? Does it make the system unstable ?
More RAM equates to better performance (Though SD Card life shortens)
So why wouldn't people swap more ?

Ram problem

Hello guys,i recently tried to flash a new kernel but everything messed up so i flashed back to my older one,my device is running on stock v2.3.6,Xxjw4.
Even after flashing to the older one i still have problem,
I have got 368 mb of ram,but still my phone shows 144 mb used and 30 mb free!and due to low ram my phone works very very slow.
Anybody help me please.
Thankyou.

I think it is the prob of our "old" device with only 512MB RAM...
Do you use "heavy" apps like facebook, skype and so on ...more functions need more RAM for the apps ...
I`m using CM 10.2 with Semaphore and BigMEM-Libs so that i have 409MB RAM available ...

No,i dont have any heavy app,yes my device got 512 mb ram from which 366 mb is available. Before i flashed everything was working very fine even the app like facebook worked very smooth but now i can hardly open my device settings also.
But actually my problem is not this my problem is if my phone is using 124 mb ram there should have been 125 mb or more ram free but its showing only 25-30 mb free!!!

I had the same problem with the RAM, lot of apps began to force close and the system was SLOW! really slow! I tried installing Greenify that can hibernate apps to free up more RAM but sometimes it doesn't work so I had to restart my device.
Now I'm very happy because I've found a solution that works excellent! You have to insert an sd card and create a swap partition. I use the Devil Kernel because it supports a swap partition. To activate my partition I used the Devil Kernel Manager and and set a swappiness value of 60.
To verify if your swap memory is working you have to type "free" in a terminal console. In past I've tried to use the app Swapper to create a Swap file but it never worked like the real partition.
I think that a swap partition is a need for our i9000 devices if you plan to use many apps.
