This is by far the best blur camera. The speed rivals the RAZR. Perfect quality. This is a system app so naturally you have backup current cam or just put a copy of it somewhere you'll remember.

Okay well I tried that out and and am in a bit of a hole now. I don't have a camera app.
By relative terms, I'm a noob, so tell me what I did wrong. I renamed the BlurCamera.apk in system/app/ to BlurCamera.apk1 (and left the odex file alone) and moved the file you linked to that location as well. The permissions for the file were rw-r--r--. So I go to the app tray; no Camera app. I restarted my phone; no Camera app. I click on the BlurCamera app (the same one you linked us) and attempted to 'Install' it, resulting in 'Application not installed".
So at that point, I just wanted to undo everything so that I can have a functional camera again. I deleted the file you gave and renamed the original back to BlurCamera.apk. (If it's of any relevance, the permissions for that file are also rw-r--r--). No camera app in app tray and still nothing after a restart.
WHAT DO I DO?
---------- Post added at 06:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 PM ----------
Never mind. Took a couple power cycles.
Thankfully, original Camera app is showing up in the tray. But the one you linked didn't work for me.
thank you for the apk, however says install unsuccessful.
I'm using eclipse 2.0.
Thank you for the effort though, I had been looking for a better camera apk because it just seems like the stock one doesn't quite cut it. After my old htc evo shift and looking at iphone camera pics the motorola just isn't anywhere close as far as quality.
So I am a noob to doing this and I'm sorry if this is a dumb question or anything but how exactly do you do this? Thanks in advance.

Ok guys
First off have root access
Using root explorer go into system/app find your System cam make a copy of it(this is just in case it doesnt work) and put it somewhere you'll find easily.
DELETE THE ORIGINAL
Put the BLURCAM.apk in the same system/app folder
LOOK CLOSELY
You'll see that the PERMISSION aren't correct. CORRECT THEM. Just hold down on the BLURCAM.apk and go to set permission. It should be rw-r--r-- or something(phones bricked working on it) BUT its like this
. .
.
.
THREE CHECKS DOWN THE LEFT SIDE, 1 CHECK IN THE TOP MIDDLE
Then Reboot and enjoi
PS: If your cam disappears its probably your rom. Just do the same thing BUT WITH YOUR SYSTEM CAM
Then Reboot and enjoi
lol
Works great for me thnx !

Sorry man just got on stock to see whats wrong. Apparently this will NOT work on an odexed rom. Just flash some deodexed rom it'll work fine. Try Eclipse.
Possibly a dumb question, but what exactly is this from?
Is this a blurcamera apk from a different device, different firmware version, etc?
I recently rooted my wife's bionic for her (updated to 901, running Eclipse), but she hasn't loved the camera on the phone in general, so I'd love to toy with different applications (system or otherwise) to see how much is hardware and how much the native app.
Just trying to find out a little more about the apk in this post.

Its the cam from the 5.8.894 update. In my opinion its the best Blurcam. There are just tad differences between .901 and this. I personally like the look. But it has better quality than the .901 cam, takes pictures faster, all that good stuff

Thanks to p3droid!
Just installed this over 2.2 OTA Rooted Deodexed and put the NexTheme from Fab on top of it. Seems to be running smooth for now.. I did put launcher pro on top of it because I like there Social and Calendar Widgets. Super Easy to install. Quadrant still ran the same as the stock ROM though high 1300's.
Do get need to be deodexed to flash this?

This is a new style of install for me and the Droid community in general. The update.zip format will only remove those files necessary to install itself, if your phone is odexed, it will deodex it for you and install. It has a very small footprint because it is only installing what is necessary.

To be honest, I have no Idea. I installed this ROM and it got rid of all the bloatware and some different application settings a long with their new launcher. When I put NexTheme on it didnt seen to change anything from the ROM that I noticed.
installing a theme shouldnt change anything but the theme stuff. If you have a theme installed and install a new rom you are most likely gonna loose the theme and have to reinstall it afterwards.
i have seen that some themes dont play so nice with the "blurless" roms. but i dont use themes so i can't speak from experience.
I noticed that the previous version of tranquility messed with my corp. email and calendar. Some other ROMs did the same, has anyone who has a corp.email set up through exchange server installed this?? perfer not to use touchdown I like the 2.2 imbedded. So please let me know cause so far all I can run is 2.3.15 leak nobody else care much about the corp. thing and I wish I didnt have to.
i use an exchange server and have not had any issues with any roms stock or otherwise. I never had the 2.1 issue either so guess mine might be a "simple" setup compared to others. Works for me on this too.
what happens when you try to use the exchange server on these roms? what errors are you getting?
As it turns out P3Droid responded to me by saying that what I need is a part of blur, and that I can use corp email through the email app itself but it doesnt really have the same functionality and the corp calendar wont work and I cant sync everything so in my case I cant use it unless I use a third party app called touchdown and even that is kinda spotty. I rely heavily on this function.

In order to add back the parts you need, I will need to add back in a great deal of blur. If you don't mind I will work on it over the next few days to see what I can do for you to get you blurless and corp calendar.

My phone was NOT deodexed and is now a paperweight so be careful. even though it says it can still be odex it isn't correct and will cut you into bootloop and the next thing you know MEM_MAP Blank and you're calling VZW begging for a new phone.
also since there's no new SBF file yet you cannot fix it.

All of the current ROMS have *some* level of Blur. Since we cannot bypass the Moto Kernel, there are some levels of base code that just have to be there.
Tranquility, Apex, zapX, and Rubix 0.5 were all built on the 2.3.15 release and then removed as much of the blur components as they could and still have it function.
Fission & Rubix 1.0 built from a base that came out of the Droid2 SDK which appears to be very stock Android and therefore, they are a little more 'blur-less' than others. Which is both good and bad. Time is showing that some of the blur components have some nice functionality that people are missing when they go completely blur-less.

This is absolutely true and was the same for the D1 except it wasn't Blur, but you can't build AOSP for D1 either without using the extract-files.sh to pull all of the proprietary components that make the phone work.
It's a basic truth about phone firmware.

So far, I've had like maybe one or two glitches.... sometimes after a reboot the boot screen gets left on the lock screen, so you can still unlock your phone, but you have to guess where the sliders are.
another is that the calendar widget doesn't work.
Other then those two, the rom is FAST, stable, and battery life has been great. Worth it to me in my opinion... It's not an ASOP "experience" though... it's more like a hybrid.
Like it so far though, it's my daily driver.
Edit: Also, this applies to STOCK people (running the 2.2 OTA).... I was odexed, completely stock..... installed this rom with ease: no wiping, no formatting, nada. AND it deodexed my phone for me.... LOVE THAT.

I have bought tasker aS well (the stock rom doesn't let the os sleep when gps is enabled so I bought it to turn it on and off for all my apps)
Now I like your idea of syncing every 30 but I use google voice exclusively. And the voice app. Does that mean if I turn off my sync I won't get my messages in a timely mater?

This rom also doesn't seem to sleep when wick is on. Am I missing something? Anyway I do see how this can save a lot a battery with the screen dining and everything. I had to wipe my phone to get it to work. Last time I tried when I booted every system app was force closing. I feel like this is a little slower than rubix but way faster then stock. Could be too the drawer just doesn't feel right. Too bouncy for me to use quickly. Ill probably go to pro launcher. But if I don't want to how do I customize the 4 apps at the bottom? Its driving me nuts

INSERT USUAL DISCLAIMER HERE. I THINK (HOPE) YOU ALL KNOW THE RISKS BY NOW. Blah blah brick, blah blah not my fault, you know.
Well, using Willis111's Canadian Bell 2.3.6 build from here, somemadcaaant, ZOMBI3, and I have been slowly patching this up to work on the XT862.
I've made up a stock (tweaked for VZW) 2.3.6 ROM and a lightly debloated one as well. Both have the same build.prop tweaks for battery life, the usual wifi scan, as well as the camera video modes tweak, plus some other stuff tacked onto the end of the build.prop.
What we changed was the build.prop (IIRC, I used a Liberty3 one that I touched up to my liking), eri.xml inside framework_res.apk, and libmoto_ril.so to get this up and running on the XT862. Since, I have added in 5.7.905 system apps to get some things running (MMS messaging mainly).
I have flashed these without a wipe (over SD 4.5 I think) and it seems to be fine, although I've only had it running maybe an hour now, so I can't attest to battery life. It may be fine without a wipe, it may be better with it. IDK.
One note for HandCent users, go into HC, menu> settings> application settings> default messaging application> all(sms & mms). This should fix double texts.
NOT WORKING:
It seems the first boot bootloops. Just battery pull and restart. It should boot. I'm running this debloated build exactly.
My stock camera FCs when entering panoramic mode. 3rd party apps such as ProCapture still work. This will be addressed after I get 1% battery and power menu buttons added (Thanks to BuckMarble!)
Here's the links to my DropBox.

Oh boy! I can teach the reboot and 1% stuff(gotta dig up the code for this one, been a while) I've recently become quite the android.policy master. Lol. As for the messaging stuff, im not sure where to go with that one.
EDIT: noticed quite a few com files missing from the framework folder that our xt862 uses. Compare an xt862 vzw rom to this one and try patching in the missing ones and see if that helps with the messaging. In system/framework.

Nice work,
@jchenny i'd prefer a bloated version to go nuts on anyways.
Definately deserves it's own thread to be sure, you will have reboot/screenshot power menu functions plus power widgets and whatever else is needed on the weekend unless some1 else wants to get it done? Looking at you buckmarble and ZOMBI3, i'm using my phone for oncall work this week.
Again awesome release, can't wait to try it.
Edit: Grab my giant APN list apns-conf.zip from my sig link below and see if that fixes mms, most providers have been added manually... could simply be the conversations app not working correctly with the cdma buildprop commands changed and/or rot.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1, swap out with the vzw versions of conversations.apk, mms.apk, messaging.apk, might also have to swap out the bluremail.apk, bluremailengine.apk and blursnmessagingengine.apok or perhaps use the aosp versions?
Could it be a google restoring settings thing, always gives me grief when i forget this after flashing lol.
-smc
I can get the power menu/widgets/etc stuff in. Would rather teach red how to do it though. Expand the knowledge base of the new developers. I like to give back what I've learned so that at some point we can all help each other. Hopefully your apn stuff fixes the mms problem he's got.

I can get the power menu/widgets/etc stuff in. Would rather teach red how to do it though. Expand the knowledge base of the new developers. I like to give back what I've learned so that at some point we can all help each other. Hopefully your apn stuff fixes the mms problem he's got.

I would like to learn this rather than just having it done as well. I'd like to further my knowledge on this kind of modding (do I dare call it dev, I feel like I haven't done much really) stuff.
@SMC, where is that APN list in your sig?
As I play with this, I'm going to try tossing together a build for myself (and others?) to test with 5.7.905 deodexed system apps from ZOMBI3's .zip. Also, Hash has a deodexed 5.6.890 build on his blog right? I'm blocked here on the school network.
Red, shoot me a pm with your email for gtalk.

True true, pardon my eagerness guys.
You will find the apn list on the top link in my signature, will be at the bottom of the page with the files.
I suspect you will have all the kinks out by the weekend, just in time for me to flash lol.

Well, I patched up the APN file and that didn't fix it, but it did add "Verizon Wireless" to the status bar...time to revert or fix that. Hmm. Adding back the old APN file didn't fix it up.
FIXED: Hex edited some null entries into eri.xml.

EDIT: 4:15 PM. I received a picture! It seems kind of weird how it came through, but it coming through is what matters. Hitting download doesn't do anything but just fail to DL, but again, I got a photo so...IDC!
This project, and subsequent thread, has become my baby. I keep wanting to work on it.
I can't seem to download the debloated version. Dropbox gives me a 404.

I believe I have the freshest build on my DropBox. IIRC, I removed messaging.apk and dropped in mms.apk and that enabled MMS messaging. For my purposes, it's a fully working build. I haven't had any errors. Keep me updated if you hit any.
I think I'm going to start adding a time stamp to my .zips, I can't keep them straight. (Now I've added date and time stamps to preserve my sanity, or what remains.)
Oh yea! This is getting themed! I taught myself UOT Kitchen (it's so easy) and applied a META-INF workaround listed on their site to fix a flashing error and it's looking great. And is it just me, or does this boot quickly? Maybe I don't pay attention...
New links in OP.
Nice very good job theme, and one percent awesome already, haven't tried it though, I got stuck on after the safe boot menu something went wrong no big deal tho ill check it out keep it up though I wanna see that reboot and screenshot from you soon way to go ! Congrats

Nice work, its all done lol.
I remember having media player control status widgets, or what ever its called, on my old LG optimus 2x and I liked it, very convenient - maybe we can port that over or use code, like adding the controls to the far right as you scroll thru.
If that's makes sense.
Definitely lots of performance tweaks in there for boot, memory and gui speed.

I definitely want to implement more tweaks for battery life, speed, etc. Also, the 1% mod wasn't playing nicely with services.jar and causing reboots, so I marked that as experimental. I'm talking to BuckMarble on GTalk and he's helping me do this since my current knowledge is minimal in comparison.
EDIT: I'll be trying this later...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437712 No dice. I need a tester device haha. This is so much flashing!
I've seen posts of several loving 4.4 and others going back to 4.2. Is it worth it? Battery life? Are there known bugs and issues?
Imo, its still very much subjective. As much as I've frequented here throughout the years,I would probably still be considered a noob. With that being said, here are my thoughts
Initially I was regretting the update. My battery life being terrible was my biggest gripe. I decided to root it only three days of having the stock 4.4 rom. Once I did that, my battery life levels returned to 4.2 levels. I'm getting about 15 hours off a single charge which is huge for me. Not sure if rooting actually made the difference but that's the only thing I changed after I initially made the switch.
Plus I love the new camera app which isn't offered for 4.2. I just wish Google incorporated a long press to kill apps feature. Seems like the only way you can get that is through a custom rom
Also, my screen rotation seems to be broken. It works on certain apps and not on others. It will work if I click on a video within flipboard, but not in my picture gallery. I can deal with it for a while but not too much longer

You may want to look into xposed framework and either wanam or gravitybox. It will give you your long press back to kill along with a while host of other features. I could never live on a stock ROM without one of those.

Honestly, no. That's really weird that it's hit or miss like that. There's a reason they pulled that update, though. I'm wondering if there's not different hardware revisions or something and 4.4.2 just works better with some than others. Only suggestion I could make is make a nandroid, do a factory reset, and see if that fixes it. If not, just restore your backup.
Did you make any other modifications or delete any system apps after rooting?

I actually saw something that suggested it was related to the removal of the Samsung hub app. I could probably do a reflash but I'm Judy now getting all my settings finalized. Idk man

No idea how or why that might make a difference, but I made a backup of mine with Titanium Backup and I've attached an archive with the files in it. You can use that to reinstall it. I just froze all the stupid system apps on my phone. I figured it was safer that way. Anyway, let me know if that works. Hope it does.

can anyone upload the camera app+need apps for camera from 4.4.2 ?

My only "issue" is that I was trying to free up some internal memory. Freezing apps doesnt get rid of them right? It just suspends them from showing up in your app tray correct?

System apps live on a different partition from your regular apps and so do their .dex files (for odexed roms, which stock usually is). So no, unless you need to push some apps (supersu? ) to the /system/ partition, there is no need to free up space. Just uninstall updates and freeze.

Good morning all, picked up this phone to test for my sons. I did root\debloat using the DirtyCow method. I wanted to use a better camera app so I installed the Google camera app which for me worked better. I uninstalled the native app. That broke ALL camera functions. Now no camera app works. Has anyone had this issue?

This means that there are hooks between the camera and the OS that haven't been discovered yet. Earlier CM builds had this issue for other phones too. I'm not a developer but I know a little about code. I'll grab a Logcat to see if something jumps out at me.

I just tried to create same condition. By installing open camera and renaming myoscamera.apk to myoscamera.spk_
But the result was open camera still worked.
So what did you remove when you did it.?

It is not supposed to be an issue with the app being used, and rather the libs for the camera. But I will continue to try things out in this direction. Hopefully will find some hidden lib being called by the stock app and not by other apps.

I am far from expert, I don't notice a connection to camera with these logcat entries.
I assume you did not make copy / backup before removing stock camera.
I think this recovery package should restore your camera.
It is files from v17 and v8.3 stock, you never said what version you were on. I can put up version for whichever one you have, since these should only work on v17 and v8.3

Sadly you picked the wrong phone for learning development on, you need to choose another phone.
Blu has decided to lock this phone down, so future users won't even be able to root let alone flash custom firmware.
Even if Blu didn't the development is dead on this device anyway. This phone using Sony camera which no one has been able to get to work on custom ROMs.
One can port to another ROM provided that donor phone also uses Sony camera.
This is 100% the wrong phone to try and learn to develop on.
Best phones for beginners are Nexus and Samsung, simply cause more developer's have these phones, so they have the time to teach.
Phone with few developers are not meant for beginners to learn from, the less developers a device has the less time anyone has to teach.
As far as I know I am the only developer on my current device, it's a good phone, but I don't have to time to teach beginners, that's why I recommended Samsung or Nexus.

Actually, I have plenty of time to learn. The fact that this device has been difficult to work with is the challenge I want. I absolutely don't like Samsung and everybody works with Nexus. If I fail then so be it. At least I'll learn what not to do.
