After much google searching, and searching here on XDA, I'm at a loss. I have the Allshare.apk and .odex, however I have had no luck installing them. I've tried various suggesions, including pushing them from adb shell, and nothing seems to work.
I would love to continue using custom roms, but not having Allshare is a big reason for me to just use rooted stock. The rom I'm trying to install it on is Cognition Beta (Froyo).
Titanium Backup also doesn't work for this. It tells me that it backed up Allshare, but when I try to install it, the restore button doesn't even show up.
Also, a quick question for Rom Manager. With the rom backup feature, can you only restore a backup for the rom you are using? (i.e if you want to restore a backup for another rom, you have to flash the rom first, then restore?)
Although posted in the wrong forum... I'd also like an answer to this. Running CDE and would really like to have AllShare to stream movies off my media server.

Not sure why this would be the wrong forum. I'm using a Captivate, and trying to install Allshare on a Captivate rom.
use root explorer and add them to System/app and paste both files there.
reboot your device, and voila

Still at square one. Altho the .apk and .odex are now in system/apps, it didn't affect anything. Also, looked up root explorer, and how to use it, then downloaded it. It won't remount my main file system as read only...so it's permanently in r/w now.
Also tried flashing to killer23d's rom, to use titanium backup on the allshare he has in his rom, still wouldn't work.
So....clueless at this point.

At one point, I had this same problem, and the only solution there is, is to reflash the rom. It's a PITA, I know. And don't worry about what your filesystem is mounted as in Root Explorer. After every reboot it reverts to read only again.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my case. Even after reflashing Cognition, my file system is still R/W. Didn't even have to hit the white button on root explorer to paste files into system/app.
Also, adding dlna.apk and dlna.odex into system/app still isn't giving me Allshare.
Edit: Well, I've found a better solution. I'm gonna go with Killer23d's rom...looks alot more like stock Froyo, is based on the I9000, has Allshare, AND Mobile AP. Both features that I wanted.
Thanks for trying guys. If anyone does come up with a solution tho, please feel free to use this thread, as searching for allshare.apk on google results in this thread being either the 2nd or 3rd search result (can't remember).
Works for me.
I just put AllShare back in, using the attached file, and it's working fine.
I'm running Cognition 2.2 Beta 9.1.3 and put the file into "system\app" using Root Explorer.
I also changed the permissions of the file and selected just the following:
USER = READ + WRITE
GROUP = READ
OTHERS = READ
Remove any other checked permissions.
In case you don't know how to get into the permissions, just long-press the file, from within Root Explorer, and choose "Permissions" from the list that pops up.
Don't forget to reboot right after.
Your issue is most likely because you are trying to reintegrate an odex'ed AllShare while you are using a de-odex'ed ROM. Ozone777's file looks to be about the correct size for a de-odex'ed AllShare. Just move it into the /system/app folder with root explorer as mentioned above and you should be good to go.
I used terminal to drop the APK attached in the previous post into /system/app and it works beautifully. CogYo 2.2.9

I've looked and I couldn't find a direct solution, so I'm going to give birth to this thread.
Problem: I want (and have problems downloading) the OTA Ice Cream Sandwich update on my rooted Verizon Motorola Droid 4
I rooted my phone awhile back. Just today I received a message that the system update was available.
-I am able to download the update.
-I am able to begin installing the update.
-During the installation process, the yellow progress indication bar fills about 1/8 of the way, then I get the ! warning sign above the little android figure.
Here's what I've done so far to try and correct this problem:
-Restarted my phone
-Restarted my computer
-Downloaded and installed the latest Motorola drivers from the official Motorola website.
-I attempted* to un-root my phone using the Droid 4 Utility 0.4.
--I should note that in the log, there was a like that read:
rm failed for /data/app/com.noshufou.android.su-1.apk, No such file or directory

-Restarted my phone again
-Tried installing the update with still no luck
*It appears that all the Droid 4 Utility did was remove Superuser, though I could be wrong. However, if this is the case, I still have a rooted device.
Once again, I'd prefer to have the OTA update, and not a leaked/rooted version of ICS. There's a possibility I didn't unroot my phone all the way. Am I doing this right?
Thanks in advance for the help.
ICS hasn't been officially released for the D4 yet.
This morning when I woke up I received an "Update available" notification. I am able to download an update for my phone. After downloading the update, I receive another notification:
"Install update
Update (6.13.219.en.US) has been downloaded and is ready to install.
Installation will take up to 10 minutes. Upon completion the phone will power off than back on.."
So it absolutely did not occur to you that this is the "219" update which can be found in this (General) section as well as in the Android development section .
Please do take a look in the topics mentioning "update" or "219". You will find topics for rooted and stock phones regarding the 219 update and how to proceed.

Thanks for your help. I'm slightly inexperienced. I was so excited when I saw the system update that I suspected it to be ICS. Albeit, my hunt continues.
it failed because u altered system files of some kind... its happening to me too. i downloaded the stock system app zip from here in hopes to replace the system apk's so the update will go through but i dont know how to replace the system files... is it as simple as copy and paste, do u have to copy it to the sd card then use a file explorer to copy and overwrite over the files? i dont want to mess something up
I did modify the build file in root/system in order to install a certain APP from the Google Play Store, but I made sure I went and reversed all of the changes I made. Could you please post where you got this file from?

but how do u copy those files from NOTE 2? i downloaded the file, extracted the files but i cant copy them to the system folder
copy them to your phone via usb, make sure you are rooted, and CAREFULLY COPY them using a root explorer. You can get a good one from AntTek for free on the Play Store.
I tried that.. copied the files to the sd card. I can see them when i browse the sd card via the computer but when i unplug the cord they arent there anymore. Would replacing the stock boot animation via rom manager have anything to do with the fail?
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA
remember that the "sd card" the computer sees is the phone's internal storage. your actual sd card, as the computer sees it, is referred to by the phone as "sd-ext" or "external sd card" usually.
I did the samething, I changed two files and got help from this forum to get the originals. I use es file explorer in root and copied the files to where they need to be. I checked the permissions and rebulit the checksum for each file. After that I used voodoo to save my root. I rebooted instal from sdcard and it worked. hope this helps.
well it wasnt an app that i deleted.. i was reading somewhere about the build.prop file being messed up from using rom manager so i downloaded a new copy and pasted it over the old one and the update went through! thanks everyone!

You need to be rooted, at least to be able to use AntTek and Root Uninstaller, and no, you won't loose it in case of FW update, unless the upgrade is for the camera too... but the process is fast. 5 minutes and its done

strange thing that i downloaded the apk, tried to install it but wouldnt work even after changing permissions. Had no camera forawhile. Downloaded the stock apk, just copy and pasted it in the folder and all of a sudden i have my camera back with no shutter sound...no idea why but thanks
I'm trying my best to fix (IOW; mute) the shutter sound on my GF's O4X. While I believe I understand how this is done, I'm not able to actually get it done.
I've managed to get the phone rooted (thanks to alexp999's simple to follow guide). If I've understood things correctly; I now need to replace the original camera.apk with the modified one found in this thread.
Problem is that, in the /system/app folder, both renaming files (the old camera.apk) and copying files (the new camera.apk) to the folder fails.
Anyone able to see what I'm missing / doing wrong? Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!..

Thanks for the reply and suggestion RuedasLocas!
Titanium Backup seems to have the option to uninstall system apps, I'll give that a go. Would however like to figure out how to copy files to the system/app folder before I do that (given that this is required to re-install/enable the camera). Have tried with both ES File Manager and Total Commander; both have been given SU-privelages, both are able to browse to the folder, neither is able to copy files to or rename files in the folder...

Thanks for all the help! Rebooting allowed me to rename files. Then I finally figured out why copying files to the system folder failed (or at least partly); For reasons unknown to me, I weren't allowed to copy/move files directly from the external_sd card to the system/app directory, Had to first move the to an internal location, then I could move then to the desired location!
End result; The annoying shutter sound is gone! :victory:
Again; Thanks for all the help!
Hey guys...
Im in a pickle...
I was being an idiot and I deleted some authenticator system apps... Now com.motorola.contacts etc. do not work...
I remember at one time there were some system apps that you can download and re-add in "apply update from sd card"
can anyone post them... or should I just reflash my SBF... or whatever its called now...
Thanks.
IMO the quickest method right now would be to backup all user data/apps via TiBu, then flash stock ROM (or whatever). I think there are links to a few on the ROM forums with all bloatware removed, which would be a good way to go...

I removed some of the system files from my xt860 2.3.4 and can't seem to find a fix for it. It won't let me edit contacts at all. I did a factory reset through the recovery menu as well as a reset through the system menu. I downloaded the files that I removed (I think I got them all) and put them into the system/app folder. I changed the permissions to rw- r-- r-- and owner to uid using root explorer. I've been searching for fixes for this for days, but all of them on xda have links to downloads that don't exist anymore.

Grab the appropriate zip file and find yourself RSDLite. Unzip the file and point RSDLite at the xml contained in the newly unzipped folder and presto chango, like new phone.

You asked how to root p. Kingo app is as simple as it gets. And it doesn't trip your Knox counter. If you want 4.4.2 then I would suggest downloading the urdroid rom and following the detailed instructions. I'm running the stock kitkat rom rooted with no Knox counter trip. Not trying to be a prick but the kingo root method was as simple as pi

I'm not interested in kitkat, honestly, I dont care about custom ROMs. I just need to root, and the procedure for replacing the gps files that are to make the AT&T GN3 gps actually work. And possibly stop the updates.
if you're on the latest nb4 baseband than you'll need to google Kingo v.1.15 and find a download of that version. if you're still on mj5 than just google kingo app, download and install to a windows pc. open the app and follow the instructions. its easy. kingo should install the correct drivers. kingo doesn't always succeed the first time. if that's the case try again until kingo says success. once done update su superuser app via google play and restart your phone. now you have root. i don't have gps problems so hopefully someone else can help you with. good luck. sry i can't post any download links but if you use google you should have no problems
Honestly I'd just wait if I were you....
Rogers and tellus note 3 have gotten kitkat the s4 has gotten kitkat for att in looking for kitkat in the next few weeks to month.

Ignore the meta folder. You're not "flashing" these files, you're copying them to your phone's system folder. Open the zip and open the system folder, then open the etc folder. Now copy the gps.conf file to your phone's system/etc directory. Now go back to the gpsfix.zip and open system then open lib. Copy the 3 libloc files to your phone's system/lib directory. Go back to the zip. Open system, open lib, open hw. Now copy the 2 GPS files to the phones system/lib/hw directory. Change each files properties to rw-r-r(Fix permissions). Now reboot. Warning if you don't know what you are doing i don't recommend doing this as messing with system files can lead to very expensive paperweight

Sry for the late reply. Owner=read write, group=read, other=read. No execute
To disable AT&T updates, freeze the at&t update app. (Sorry, I can't get the name right now, I'm on a ROM that had it removed, but it's at&t <something to do with updates>, with little red and green lines on the icon.) Link2SD or TiB will freeze it.
One more quick ?, When I open Super SU, a popup appears, Samsung KNOX has been detected. This might limit root capabilities and cause annoying popups. Try to disable KNOX? I have always cancelled the popup. Is that correct? or should I ok it? Again, thanks guys for all the help. I used my gps without fail all weekend long. Not a single problem, gps or phone wise. Wonder if I was to unroot using Kingo app, and leave the gps patch alone, if it would still get OTA?
