[Q] Bionic Browser a Bust? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Anandtech has a mobile compare and I put the RAZR beside the Bionic. Same CPU, but 1200Mhz vs 1000Mhz is a 20% difference. Why does the Bionic browser lose by 50% on some benchmarks to the Razr browser?

What is the reason Bionic Browser is under performing? Bionic Busted Browser?

Maybe Bionic OS 2.3.4 vs Razr OS 2.3.5 is why Razr has such a big difference in web based benchmarks.
One way to verify, anyone running 2.3.5 or better OS on Bionic post some benchmarks? OR anyone with an overclocked Bionic(1200Mhz) post benchmarks and OS.

I don't suggest using the stock browser in the first place. I highly recommend the dolphin browser. The stock browser is less reliable for viewing some websites.

I usually like the stock browser on my devices, but it's slow on the Bionic. I recommend Xscope, Boat Browser or Dolphin.

I've had several different androids and the stock browser would work different on half of them. Certain membership sites wouldnt let me log in correctly on some of the android's stock browser, and on others it worked perfectly with the exact same browser options. Really makes no sense but I've accepted it and moved on to the Dolphin Browser. You would think the stock browser would function the same on different devices since its the android browser. If you ever have any problems viewing certain websites with the stock browser, try Dolphin.

My .901 [K]inetx Sun Spyder score is 3842.3ms. I little bit faster than what AnAndTech found, but still no where near as fast as the Razr

Sun Spider is a benchmark they used.
For a fun comparison, my Desktop w/ Chrome got 286.8ms.

Ok, tnx, let's see. I'm running kinetix, with v6 supercharger and a bunch of other fun performance things. On dolphin I got this
Total: 4176.1ms +/- 2.8%
I redid it and got 3722.8

I get 2716 with xscope. At least it's faster than stock Moto web browser.

I bet if you used the alpha of ICS the marks would be thru the ceiling. ICS browser rocks with speed. Too bad 3g and LTE doesn't work on the alpha yet.

[Q] Quadrant / Bionic / 2 core or 1 core ?

I was messing around with Quadrant yesterday and looked at the system info selection after running the app a couple of times. I noticed that Quadrant only recognizes the Droid Bionic as having a single core, does anyone know why that would be.
Cause Quadrant is dumb, and useless, and is only optimized for one core.
That being said, I still try to get higher scores each time....
H obey comb is the only android is which currently recoginizes and uses both cores.
ICS is bringing multicore and multiple thread support.
OMAP4 was chosen on nexus prime because it is the only multiple hread processor on the market.

Interested in keeping this thread alive to see if there is a benchmark program for our Dual Core machines.

I've read Quadrant only recognizes the Xoom's dual core processor at this time. I'm not confident in the source, so feel free to investigate further.

Did you not read my last post.
Dual core implementation is a limitation of gingerbread.
Honeycomb is the only android OS that allows apps to use both cores.
ICS is sopose to bring that feature to smartphones.

What's the best rom for gaming?

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA
Hard to say since I've only used the Gummy ICS ROM, but from what I've played so far (N64oid and FPSE), it's great for gaming. Benchmarks are essentially equal to stock GingerBread though. To be honest, performance in gaming is probably going to be the same across the board, since there is no option for changing/upgrading the Bionic's kernel.
I'm on aokp axiom and it's super laggy.

Droid 4 ICS leaked - does that help us?

I see that ICS for the Droid 4 has been released - which I guess leaves only the Bionic that hasn't got the update. I wonder if anything in this leaked version will help resolve the final issues with ICS on the Bionic...???
Wont help us.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
really?
yeah we won't get much out of the leaked ICS versions for other devices. We need an ICS kernel, which thanks to the wonderful locked bootloader won't happen until we have an official release (or leak) from Moto
*praying for a leak!*
If you want to take a look at the Droid 4 ICS leak you can download it here
I hope this happens soon..
Would really like to ICS this phone, been running it on my Xoom for a while.. Sweet
Am I missing something here? Just download the Axi0m 3-20 ICS ROM for the Bionic. Been running ICS for 4months now...only thing not working is video recording.

You're missing the fact that an ICS kernel hasn't even been built for the Bionic. That it's incredible that ICS ROMs even run on the Bionic in the first place because it's booting up with a Gingerbread kernel.
ICS has so many things overhauled under the hood, including new aspects of kernel operation that got stacked on top of what was already there. Because of the locked bootloader in the Bionic, the kernel cannot be modified.
Bionic ICS ROMs are running with limited functionality (such as hardware acceleration) because not everything in an ICS kernel is present.

Everything you just said is technically correct; however I have been running ICS alongside GB for over four months now and have not toggled back to my GB rom in over 2 months. ICS, even with it not being "official", just runs 5x better than GB.
This is pretty much the summary of how people feel who are running Android 4.x on their Bionics. I do not know anyone who has tried the Axi0m ICS roms and then switched back to GB except for people who REALLY have to have HD video recording.

I keep hearing this but what kind of games are you playing that freeze up? Only one of my 13 freeze up and it's not even that good.
I only played a couple games when I had ICS on my Bionic, but they performed significantly better than they did on GB.

Defender 2, drag racing, temple run, modern combat 3, cartoon wars and a few others.

Anything that requires graphics acceleration.
I switch back more for the bluetooth issues that we're still having w/ ICS over everything else. I use bluetooth devices quite regularly, and on ICS it's simply too buggy still for me to use it as a daily driver.

I'm curious though - what industry do you work in that requires the use of multiple Bluetooth devices? (This is a genuine question, I do not mean it sarcastically)

Rooting without installing rom?

Would i be in the wrong if i just wanted root to remove bloat and overclock the existing rom?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I rooted my stock .902 rom and deleted bloatware without a single issue. I also installed safestrap so I have custom recovery just in case I want to use a custom rom later on. I haven't overclocked, hopefully someone who has can chime in on that aspect.

I am indeed rooted and overclocked on stock rom. I have tried a couple other roms but they use the same old launchers I had available to me on the thunderbolt. I kinda like the stock rom on this. seems plenty fast to me.

You can download Motofail from the link in my sig below
i kind of like motoblur that's why i am choosing to stay with stock, much better over sense....and vanila isn't my thing, plus i am loving the camera. the hd looks comparible to my $60 flip and looks way better than a gopro.
of course, gopro's are designed to be mounted for sports or film angles, not really for personal home movies. (the mic sucks on them)
I liked MOTOBLUR also and was not interested in vanilla until the ICS roms came out. Now I much prefer 3x battery life over having MOTOBLUR To each their own though.

No video recording in ICS right now. Camera (back and front) works for stills, but no camcorder function. I never use it though.
I'm running stock - rooted with Launcher Pro as my launcher of choice and loving the stability and consistency of the device. I've tried various versions of Eclipse and a couple of ICS CM9 ROM's but have found my current setup to be the best of all. Waiting patiently now for the OTA ICS flash.....
I'd like to do the same to my girlfriend's Bionic, root and clean up the bloat. I have done so already on my RAZR.
At least, I want to clean up any services on her phone that could cost me extra money on my bill.

Just install the 'Onavo Count' app. You can restrict certain apps to WiFi only for data usage. It has been very enlightening for me to see my data usage breakdown per application, since Verizon does not offer that kind of granularity in the usage tracker on their website.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with stock if it works for you. If you want all the speed tweeks of a good custom rom, then get this app! It has so many init.d tweeks and really works good. Just found it a few days ago.

Stable, fast rom for my og Droid to live out its life?

Development stopped a long time ago, but fastest and most stable vanilla ROM should be CyanogenMod 6 for the droid 1.
That's Froyo, which a lot of folks around here frown on.
But if you want something simple, boy howdy, that's the one.
I tried like heck to find a way to get gingerbread running smoothly and never was completely satisfied. Too little RAM for GB and all the apps I had... even with overclocking and SD card storage solutions.
I can't say from personal experience that froyo is the perfect fit for the droid. I was too proud to drop back a version. I ran CM6 on an ancient G1 and that worked out ok.
CM7 is still getting updates every week or so, though, so give it a try and see if it works for you.
I was OC'd to 1.1GHz with a kernel from Prime. Other people swear by Steeldroid for the droid 1. That dev is still working on it, too.
Most of the custom ROMs are based on CyanogenMod anyway.
Good luck!

OK, running steel droid 10.5 with 10.6 coming out soon on my og Droid 1. So far seems very smooth with less quirkiness than the final liquidsmooth rom I was running. Steel Droid looks like one of the last still trying to tweak the last ounce of life from the Droid 1.

Yay! Keep the Droid alive!

I installed Steel Droid on my Droid a long time ago and it ran smooth. Gonna try it again soon and see what has changed since.
Advice
The fastest and most stable vanilla ROM should be CyanogenMod 6 for the Droid 1 but Steel Droid is very good aswell
