I think Check is better, but does my opinion really help you?
I wonder to!

Then leave it alone!
FWIW, I run with one of these two ROMs, but I'm not going to say which one - these sorts of questions are always truly pointless because there is no right answer, only differing opinions!

Dave
Every ROM got its own advantages..basically developers cook ROM that suits them..u can try as many as u like to find what ROM suits u..

it usually boils down to what you want best for your note.
having different ROMs means having lots of choices for end users such as us.
with that said, i have no answer to your question.
btw, i'm using Criskelom, because it's the most comfortable ROM (for me) to use.
I have tried checkrom v5 and rocketrom v22. In my opinion both are good rom. Battery life for checkrom is slighly better than rocketrom. But rocket rom not bad either. In checkrom I have difficulties to auto allign my S Pen but not in rocketrom. I like kitchen pro in checkrom u can customize your checkrom. So up to your preference... try both and then decide.

I just found out that other user also facing the same problem about USSD code *#0*# LCD Test (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428855&page=275) in checkrom which means you will have difficulties to calibrate your S-Pen. Other than that I love this rom. Hope they will fix it.
check is the most stable rom i have ever used...

So is it just me, or is there no thread with a poll on what people believe is the best rom out now? I've ben looking with no avail. This brings me to the question, does it not exist because we aren't allowed to have a poll like that, or am I the only one who is interested?
U find no thread because it is biased. Most of the rom's have there own pros and cons. so just close this thread

That's a negative way to look at things. Why is it that people in XDA are so quick to trash ideas or questions?.
It may be biased, but in the end EVERYONE has chosen a rom to have on their phone, so why not share the stats with everyone else? Might help some others decide which of the many ROMs to try out.
I found Tricky's essential rom to be the best regarding simplicity, battery life and performance. I like to manually install everything I will use, so that keeps the system lightweight. I only wish it had battery icon w/ percentage by default!

Darky's 9.4 + VooDoo 5.5.1 works great for me.
Using Darky 10 Final and waiting for CyanogenMod 7 Final
Darky 10 is good, cm7 is better if you can handle 12 hours of battery life... I'm on ultimate 8.2 right now and I have actually kept it on for over a week.... oh and don't forget about the goodness that is MIUI. Install that and its like a totally different phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
i've tried Darky's ROM up to 9.5, Doc's ROM & now on MIUI..i think, every ROM got it's own strength which is amazing given that the ppl that manufacture the phones can even give a decent update even after few months..
but..MIUI is totally different and cool to use! Even though the battery drain is visible, maybe need a couple of charge cycles to stabilize..all in all, it's refreshing n can keep me away frm flashing at least for few weeks (or till the next update..hehe)..
i think this is a good poll !!
if you can find out how to edit it, and adjust when new ROMs come out.
this could save a lot of people posting pointless threads about what ROM to choose and why.
they can see what the majority of people go for, and if we can write a little explanation of what ROM we chose and why, it could be beneficial
I chose MIUI - it has developed a hell of a lot in the past few weeks, all the main features work, there is updates weekly without fail, Very helpful team of devs and the ROM is super nice and is nothing like any other ROM out there !!
For a long time I was very happy with darky 8.x but lately I have been trying out almost all the roms in the poll and since a couple of weeks back I have been a extreamly happy user of MIUI.
Feels like it have brought new life to my sgs, the only downside is the battery time.

CM7&MIUI: Great but to hungry of battery.

Darky: Very smooth but a little hungry to battery.
Insanity: Simply Android. Plain.
MIUI -MCG v2.1 is the best ROM in town

Hello, I would like to know which custom ROM can I use, I bought a Captivate from ebay that comes with Cyanogen Mod 7.
I would like a ROM that has the best battery life and with the least bugs. I know all ROMs have bugs but I'm trying to get the one with the least bugs and that is fast and with a good battery life, or atleast a decent battery life.
I know that maybe you hate these type of questions but I really can't decide which one to use because there's a lot of them.
Thanks,
NightShack
You should read the development threads in the captivate section and make an informed decision. Also make sure You understand what you need to do coming from cm to a different rom

Try them out and find one that suits you. Because everyone has different opinions. Plus rom makers put their hard time and work to make these rom. That why these type of post are looked down on.
Well but there's a lot of them and I just wanted one that was the most bug-free and with most battery life, and I posted this so anyone can tell me at least, for example 3 ROMs or whatever, that fit the description, to just decide between those 3 and not all of them.
Find some rom that look interesting, and do like mcord11758 said read the rom threads and see what people say about them. It sounds like all you want is the outcome without doing the work.

+1 just browse and flash if you find it not to be your type then flash another ROM again then flash again till you found the one that suits your needs and wants. that's what I did when I first got my cappy.
YepYep the first few months with this phone was all out rom flashing. Just look at the forums and make sure to do your research before you flash.

If you're not familiar with flashing roms, you should start with something froyo based. They've been around longer and for the most part are more stable and less bugging. For the most part.

That is certainly not a true statement! Just because something has been around longer does not mean it is any more stable. The GB Roms are quite stable, with no more issues than what I had with Froyo Roms.
I personally like Miui the best...but the the others said, check out the development thread and take a look at all the roms offered. Many of them offer exceptional battery life and great performance. It comes down really to your general preference.
Hey so I was curious as to which rom is overall best on the I9000, in terms of a combination of newness, ram space(speed) and stability, cause I understand that the newer the update, the less the ram? I am currently using JVR

Although i have not tried any recent roms on XDA. I found Tornado JVT to be the fastest and most stable. Although i personally don't think the quadrant score really makes a difference i get a max of 4100
currently im running the Teamhacksamsung ICS port, but the most satisfying ROMS have been the ones out of Darky's kitchen...!

I found them to be the slowest.
The ota is a nice feature though.
Im quite happy with my current combo: jw1+semaphore+thunderbolt (on ext4)
The fastest rom is cm7 but the ram managent is bad so you would have to install thunderbolt to make it fast the whole time instead of the first hour(s).
Cm7 has not so good battery life, but if youre fine with charging twice a day its the one to choose

For sure MintBerry MIUI if it should be MIUI.
Jetpack ROM 8.0 if it should be a Samsung ROM.
But waiting for MIUI 4.0 port no I´m not using the Galnet version...

Just stay at JVR or upgrade it to a newer official ROM.
Only in this case u'll get phone with a full set of working features, especially camera and hardware accelerated video playback.
Yeah, official ROMs are maybe not as smooth and don't have such comfortable UI, but at least it works as supposed without any big issues.
i9000 is my 2nd device, first was Spica, so i used to use lots of different roms and my experience says that there's no ROMs better then official one.
I'm using Mintberry MIUI with the Thunderbolt script and I'm finding it to be pretty smooth. CM7 is also very competent in performance.
However, the thing with these AOSP ROMS is that they lack the Samsung framework so video playback, camera, etc don't run as smoothly.
I've always found stock ROMs to be the best overall ROM as long as you flash a kernel like Semaphore or Tornado, I just like to use Mintberry MIUI because its aesthetics suit me better than stock

I'm still on stock(KL3) with mowmo's theme. Waiting for a near perfect ROM, probably Rocket ROM's next version. BTW, how's Cassie's UltraLite ROM?
Well, Im on checkrom revo Note HD v5 ... and so far satisfied with it... no probs at all ... its unique feature is its Kitchen pro app
I still think the ROMS on Note are lacking compare to its small brother GS2..
Hi there, i tested all the roms avalible.
If u want to do a full wipe without boot loops and very good battery and smooth operating try Darky note 3.1 or King Droid 4.0 i like those 2 very much.
I won't go into bashing other's work but some just release their roms to get donations without even owning the device...
I'll just say two thumbs up for Rocket Rom. You can see i posted V8 a couple of posts ago, since then we're at V21 and i still think it's the best darn ROM currently available.
I tried them all, now back to stock LA4, and happy
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I've tried Stock Rooted LA4, RocketRom, and Cassie's XL, and my favorite is Cassies. I tried Abyss 3.3/3.4, Speedmod, and FM Kernel 1.5/1.6/2.0 and ended up with FM 2.0.
I chose it because of it's smoothness/performance. Battery is average at best, but it lasts a day so I'm ok with it.
RocketROM v21! it's just perfect.
I've got RocketROM v20 and AbyssNoteKernel 3.6 and it works perfect.
No issues anywhere. and no overheating. Nothing. It just works smoothly and calm
there are 4/5 very good roms
all with + and -
so its impossible to say which is "the best"
depends on your needs
i tried many rocket roms and i was amazed by the good work
then i switched on another 1, maxicet's rom and i was again impressed
different solutions and so on with a different final result but its like to compare 2 beatiful flowers
then i tried darky rom and again i said gosh.....very good job
so many rom fits your needs better than stock and all deserve a try
Which is the best custom ROM?
And why, in your opinion?
Please, post your answer in this thread, it would be useful for many ppl
Thanks a lot

There is no best ROM. It solely depends on your preference.
Cassie's XtraLiteRom was the 1st ROM I flashed with. But it removed too many features which I deemed essential.
Then I flashed to DarkyNote ROM. But I encountered too many bugs.
Finally, I flashed Sheep ROM, and have been using it ever since for 2 weeks.
No bugs as of yet. I like its balance of pure stock and optimizations/tweaks.

then i moved on to rocket, which was pretty good, except it drained the batt faster than stock :S
i'm now on checkrom, i've had it for a week, and i couldn't be more satisfied.. great battery life, i've gotten up to 40hrs on above moderate usage, good performance, and the kitchen pro app that it comes with is amazing.
I also settled on checkrom for the battery life and stability.

Again you're right.
But in this way ppl can save time, making an idea of pro/cons of some ROM.
Do you never look at the rating or comments about an app to decide wether install it or not or wether it worths to try it?
For ROMs I think this kind of opinion is much more important and useful.

Let's be honest here...there IS a best rom at any given moment. There is very little criteria needed to decide which is best:
1) speed/performance
2) battery life
3) functionality/options
4) theme/aesthetica
1 and 2 are pretty straight forward, 3 doesn't have much budge room either and for 4, some people like loud and colorful cartoons on their phones and others prefer a cleaner, more minimalist look.
I can never understand why so many people dislike this kind of best rom thread. There ate a lot of smart, informed people on here who could offer better insights as to the pros/cons of multiple roms, why discourage this?
I've used every rom in the Dev thread and it its crystal clear to me that rocket rom is far and away the best in all the aforementioned categories. Cassies was ok but too thin, sheep rom was good at first but got swallowed up by the competition. Check rom is good but rocket is better, darky flat out sucked and there its no reason to go into the rest.

Can I help me pick a rom too? I'm reading up on Rocket ROM and Check ROM right now though.
Here's what I need:
1 & 2 - Max / best possible combination.
3 & 4 - I may only need highly-significant, innovative changes that you can judge as sort of.. "something you've been missing" while on stock rom. But then again, I may not have much regard for a specific item so I can probably live without it.
THANKS!!
Tbh, DarkyROM really seems to be buggy. I've read too many bug reports in that thread. I tried the ROM myself, and encountered numerous bugs as well.
I'm going to try Rocket ROM to see if jason370's claims are true.
I think we need some AOSP-based ROMs ASAP.
EDIT:
I've tried CheckROM v2 before, too.
I got random bootloops with AbyssNote v2.8, so I was forced to restore back to Sheep ROM.
Only recently received my shiny new Galaxy Note and the first thing I did was root it, CWM it and get the following ROM installed:
CheckROM Revo NoteHD
The reason I opted for this one is that the ROM Kitchen adds a lot of options for customization which means the tweaks I get are decided by *me* and not a ROM developer. So far I have yet to experience any problems with it and it did allow me to overclock. It even goes as far as letting you switch kernels from the device its self, can't fault that!
So far I'm a happy chap and glad I switched from my old iPhone 4!

Running Checkrom on my SGS2 and planning on running the same thing on the galaxy note when i get it this week. its the perfect rom for people who want a stock experience on steroids. Im guessing the note version is basically the same thing.
However, Im kind of shocked about many users reporting bad battery life and laggyness on the note. That was my main problem with most android phones since day 1 and have not had a single issue like that with my sgs2 since ive had it. I was hoping the note would be an improvement over that, I guess i will have to find out.

I have tried Rocket and currently on CheckRom V3.
My personal experience, Rocket has better battery life. I would get atleast 2 days on Rocket. This was on the older V14 version. eybee has already released v17. For the same amount of usage, CheckRom V3 drains in a day.
If you would like to keep all the samsung apps that come with the stock rom without the hassle of trying to figure out which apps you want and which you don't want, Rocket will be good.
CheckRom has the Samsung apps removed. However you can install them from the Kitchen. I like the Kitchen option in CheckRom. If you are open to customizing your rom a lot, this is a good.
+1 for the [JAN 9][XXKL7][2.3.6][FINAL] CheckROM Revo NoteHD™ V3 its running on Steroids!
