IOS notifications are very good in lock screen. you can interact with them.
if you have a missed call you can swipe to the right and it starts calling the number.
for sms or email you swipe it and it opens it automatically.
also when there is incoming sms or email, screen turns on and you can see a preview of it for 5 seconds.
are there any android apps that can do these things?
am i missing something?
There is a app called iOS Notifications in the market

I was just about to ask the same question! No matter what I do, the screen turns on when I receive a text message, I don't want this to happen. I am on JM1.. Is it a bug? Do any of the later firmwares suffer from this?
I use launcher pro but its have just the standard slide to unlock lock screen.
Driving me crazy also!

It's not a bug, it's a feature
sorry butt whyyyy , whyyyy , whyyyy you think that this is a bug ???
Most other Android phones have an option to stop that happening, for instance my gf's HTC desire. Several of the SMS programs, e.g. SMS popup, handcent, and chompSMS all have options to not light up the screen when receiving a text message, and on the desire, it honours those options - on the galaxy, it doesn't.
What is the point in the screen lighting up when you receive a message? If it's in your pocket, you won't see it so its just a waste of battery.

I'm seeing as an advantage because SGS does not have notification LED. If I left it on my desk, at least the light will catch my attention, if I didn't hear the notification tone.
Hey guys, I figured it out. You must use a program called auto starts. Then completely disable all stock messaging app instances. I am currently using handcent and everything is working perfect.

is this normal ?
im using handcent sms
You have to disable the default's Messaging notifications.

you'll have to exit the messaging application using the back key.
in froyo leaks, it's been addressed.
(I'm using the stock messaging application so I can't speak for handcent)
it seems to be a bug in the widget beautifull widgets...
i unistalled this and now it works.
the default messaging notifications was already disabled...
thanks!
Using SMS POP by Adam K.
but it seems that closing the popup or even doing a quick reply doen'st remove the notificatoin in the status bar as well as the notification on the app itself.
any work around?
don't want to install another SMS application
maybe you should turn off the notification in messages settings
I want to keep it on to alert me of unread msgs
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
easiest way is install a different sms app like chompsms, gosms, etc
thanks man, i was hoping that there's a work around as i don't want to install much apps in.. but i guess that's the only way.thanks again
Saw another bug. When i close the popup or do a quick reply the msg icon on the status bar goes away but the message icon in the home screeb still. Reflcts a number of unread msg when it should not since i already did a quick reply

In my xperia Z i am recieving twin Sms notifications.
What could be the reason?
network issues
Do you have a third party SMS app installed? It looks like the first notification is from the stock app and the second is from a different app, as the icons on the notifications are different.
Edit: The second notification icon looks like SMS Popup from what I can remember when I used to use it.

Definitely two types of messaging apps . Go to settings/apps find messaging, click it and uncheck show notification. Or you can just delete the messaging app that you don't use.

does anyone know how I can enable notification preview? for example when I get a new text or email the notification bar shows a preview of who sent the text and a bit of what was sent. I know when I was on CM 10.2 i had that feature. thanks!
go to the messaging app, click the menu button, go to settings, then the more tab. About half way down is "preview message", make sure that box is checked to get a preview on the lock screen and status bar

Also if there is room in the notification tray you can swipe down some notifications and they'll expand. Like for gmail if I swipe down it shows more and gives me the option to reply or delete.
Doesn't seem to work if there are many notifications present.
