Hey guys, hope you can help me.
I've been using Cyanogen for a few months and now I face this problem:
When I use the camera, i see a black screen with controls, and can take pictures, however, I see a black screen and not what you expect to see as the view is the camera lens.
I've tried doing a nandroid (just in case camera or something was damaged) a full wipe, applying a rom from scratch and camera works correctly...
I'm guessing it may be an app or some setting bothering.
I don't want to configure everything from start, please help me
More information: this issue seems to happen before installing Motomizer and applying one touch optimization, and if it's uninstalled, problem keeps going
I've found that at the same time I cannot see any video on youtube videos.... maybe it's an overlay video problem?
Anyone?
Solved!
Dear jhonnyx,
I had the exactly same issue and I found it was a Kernel issue.
I was using wrong CF-Root and solved it just by flashing new kernel.
To solve the the problem just flash another kernel for your device, I prefer Siyah or DorimanX.
Hope this will help!

hello i got some strange problems with my I9000 on DarkyRom v10.2.2
my camera got some faliure i think, after i take a shot, everything looks good. But when i get out of the camera software and try to view the pictures with some other software sometimes my who picture is grey / black or huge parts of pictures are grey/black.
I tried to search the net but nobody got similar problems, some times my camera is working fine, but some times i have this problem.
Are the images big? It could be that they need some time to load and you just have to be patient let me know, as I too had issues on DarkyROM 10.2.2
images in the player's normal ROM you can see after this wait? or still do not see?
Hi,
The problem which I have happens on stock ROMs with a main I9000 camera. It shows the picture fine, focuses also ok, writes a video just fine, but if I make a shot, it does corrupt it and save just "black" photo on the disk. Front camera make shots just fine.
Installing CM7 and sometimes (!!!) reinstalling stock ROMs fixes the issue. Interesting thing is it does not start immediately after installing a new ROM, but f.e. today it started happening after i made a couple of good shots, maybe too quickly... After it gets into this state nothing except installing a new ROM can help.
Wiping settings, dalvik, cache, resetting the camera, formatting SD card - i think i have tried everything... Please help !!! Does somebody had the same issues? Any hints?
have similar problem for a long time, but reinstalling stock or other ROMs DOES NOT fixes the issue.
video works fine.
panaroma works fine.
but when i'm trying to take a normal shot i can see the image, the camera focuses but when saved its a black/grey photo. (the corrupted pics are corrupted on the computer too .. )
now using sgs1, cm10.1 latest nightly
If somebody would suggest a solution that would be great. :fingers-crossed:
I am having a problem with my wife's, Atrix HD. This just started out of no where with no changes or updates in phone/. When I open the camera app i just get a black screen with the controls but no camera image, the controls respond (change colors when pressed) but don't do anything and I never get a camera picture. after a while I usually get a camera is unable to initialize error. I have searched and either no one provides a solution that I haven't tried or theirs messed up after flashing a custom ROM which I haven't done. I have tried all the factory resets, clearing cache, clearing data in application management for camera and gallery and none of it helped as other have recommended. Out of frustration I rooted her phone so I could experiment with uninstalling the camera (and gallery) and installing other versions of camera (and gallery) from other phones/aosp/android versions ext. and then re-installing the stock ones all to no avail. I know that the all the cameras were working just a week ago and that the front facing camera was working in oovoo even after she started having trouble with the rear camera, but I cant get either of them to pull up now. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I am leaning towards either a hardware issue or maybe the camera firmware was corrupted somehow and if this were the case does anyone know how to remedy it?
Let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks,
Madness

I am having a problem with my HTC one M7 (Rogers) . I am running Android Revolution HD 84.0 (and I have tried the last couple versions without any change in the problem). When recording video the colour information seems to be horribly skewed relative to the brightness data. The screen shows the video properly, the problem is only visible when playing back the video. Here is a video of the problem, and yes I see the irony in using a broken camera to record a video of another broken camera:
It looks like it is either reading a bunch of garbage data before the colour data, or starting partway through the colour data and reading off into another section of memory (I don't know if it is read top to bottom or bottom to top).
I tried changing ROMs and cycled through the last few versions of ARHD without any change in behaviour. I did a factory reset and there was no change. I am not sure what provoked the problem as I don't frequently review my videos so I don't actually know when it started but it was in the last 2-3 months.
My hope would be that the next step is to re-flash the camera firmware but I haven't any idea how to do that on this phone or where I would obtain camera firmware.
Has anybody run into this before? What should I try next?
After some searching I see 2 other people have had this problem with no solution:

This is a known issue with the HTC Camera App. Not a Rom issue or an problem with your camera.
Recording at 1080x720 works fine. It was something to do with HTC implementing the eye experience on the M7 Camera app. You can replace the camera app with an older one but you will lose the eye experience. Or record at 1080x720

I wish known issues like this were better disclosed - I could have avoided wasting people's time.
You seem to be correct, I have changed to the google camera and it seems to be working properly.
Hello,
because i bought a new phone i gave my "old" Nexus 6 to my wife. Since a updated to Marshmallow i had problems with the camera. It stuttered while making a video. But i dont often used the camera, so i ignored it. My wife is Snapchat addicted and she can't make good videos with the front camera of the N6....it's like a slide show....the record is not smooth. I searched at the internet and a lot of people have the same problem since Adnroid Marchmallow ....
I flashed her CM 14, because i thought it might be a problem with the stock rom , but the problem remained. So my question is. Because i know i had not the problem at Android Lollipop. Is there anybody who had the same problem and solved it with flashing another rom? Or is it worth to try another kernel? I looked at the "rom forum" and found the "sky dragon 5.0 with a "new" kernel and probably i will try this. So my question is....is it a problem with the rom? is it a problem with the kernel? is it a problem with the hardware? What you expert think its the best way to fix the problem (i tried tips in the internet like diasble geodata at the photos or disable the battery safer for the camera app).
I hope you are able to understand my english. Otherwise i will explain it in other words.
Thank you very much!
Flash a factory image (will wipe the phone 100% but take it back to bone stock). If the camera issue is present on stock rom, stock kernel, with no modifications, then it's a hardware issue.
i have had problems with stuttering camera app before but it was fixed by resetting the phone. not really sure why after installing a new ROM you still facing this issue.
have you tried other camera apps? download a free one from the store and see its the same deal.
My first Nexus 6 had no issues whatsoever. When I had to RMA that one for the massive battery bulge issue, my second Nexus 6 had the camera stuttering issue. It would happen whether I was taking still shots or video. Obviously it was more noticeable on video, but it still made taking stills difficult. I took a video at the time to post on here to see if other people where having the same problem, but actually never got around to posting it...

Anyway, I RMAed that phone for the camera issue but then the third N6 had the same issue. I decided to live with it though since (a) Motorola has a really frustrating return policy/procedure, and (b) since two different devices had it I didn't think there was any guarantee that an RMA would fix the problem.
Fortunately, I've noticed that lately (running Nougat now), the stutter has mostly gone away. I'd say that for still pictures it has gone away entirely. For videos, I think it is gone as long as you use the stock camera app. I've noticed that if you use other apps, like Instagram for example, my video still has issues. In that case though, it's more of a constant refocusing issue than a stutter issue.
So moral of the story is... for me at least, it seems to be ok on Nougat as long as you stick to the stock camera app.
