Wallpaper quality vs Gallery quality - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm not sure about any of you, but I set a wallpaper using the gallery application the result image is no where near the quality of the image when viewed at the same zoom level in the gallery.
Try out the image HERE
Set it to a full 3 screen background. View the image in gallery in the same zoom and position as your home screen. Observe the lines. Then press the home button. Do you notice the quality change?
Thanks

sorry to bring back old thread, but I'm wondering about the same thing and nobody responded. I'm on note 2 though, and trying to apply stock xperia ultra Z wallpaper. Same as OP, in gallery it looks super sharp and smooth, but when applied as wallpaper, its still great, but not as much...
if it makes any difference, running CM10.2
ok it seems the gallery is compressing the image before applying as wallpaper. Solution - image 2 wall from playstore

[Q] Grainy wallpaper?

Maybe I'm missing something? Whenever I go to set a picture in my gallery as a wallpaper, it becomes ridiculously zoomed in and grainy?
I haven't had my phone that long but I've looked and I'm sure I'm forgetting to check something somewhere or something... anyone know what i'm not doing?
The picture I set as a wallpaper always looks fine in the gallery..
I believe android only supports 16 bit wallpapers. You are seeing color banding. I noticed it too.
ya but why does it zoom in on the picture? the picture included in the crop box isn't even all there

Have you tried holding the border of the crop box and expanding it as large as possible?
Also, the, "Backgrounds" app sets nice, clear wallpapers if you set them from within the app.
Wallpaper set and save fixed it for me.
go get a free app called flikie wallpaper and use that to set backrounds, even your own pics or whatever the pic may be, when the phone asks what program to use to set wallpaper, use this app ( you will see the icon there)
should help i have huge crisp wallpapers and love them

In order to get the wallpaper to look properly without zooming in on part of the picture, the picture has to be resized to 960x800, then the wallpaper will look sharp. Try this wallpaper and see if it works for you if it does then the issue is the size of the wallpaper your using.
Ok I just downloaded the wallpaper I uploaded but the size changed. So forget about the idea lol. Just take a wallpaper with a high resolution and use paint the resize it and upload it the your phone. Apply it as a wallpaper and your done.
I tried to both of those apps and neither let me set a picture saved on my phone. I tried making the crop box small, big, nothing works

Custom Static Wallpaper Questions..

So going thru my PC to find some nice wallpapers, and once I have, they do not scale properly on the Tab. Using 1024x600 to even full 8mp photos, when they are scaled up the Tab, every single photo I use comes out distorted or blurry. Anyone else having problems with this?
&
Live Wallpaper, does anyone know how to get the Nexus One live Wallpaper. I saw a video of someone's Tab on youtube with him using the one where its a grey grid with square lights running horizontally and vertically.
BTW: Using a Verizon Branded Tab
same problem here ... couldn't find any info

It's a known issue with the Tab.
Download Quickpic from the market and use that for setting wallpapers.... works great and it's a free app!

Search through android market or appbrain. I got mine from the latter.

[Q] Problems with wallpaper

Hi,
I recently got a g-tablet and flashed the vegan 5.1 rom on it. I have tried making wallpaper using the suggested size of 1024x600. This makes my wallpaper blurry and it crops a large majority of it out. I've experimented with lower sizes and I still can't get a proper size that fits horizontal view perfectly. Also this vegan rom I have doesn't rotate the home screen when rotating the device. When trying a lower size wallpaper say for example 800x600, it zooms into one section of the wallpaper and still crops most of it.
Any ideas please? I'm trying to make some comic themed wallpaper, Marvel/DC, etc.
Thanks
Use multipicture live wallpaper is free from market. Have nice settings and solve crop and blury. Sorry my bad english

I don't have access to my Tab right now but try 1024x1024 wallpaper and see if that works.
I'll check back later today with more info.

That's the size I use and it works well. Just make sure when you're cropping that your subject is in the upper portion of the graphic so that you can see it in portrait mode.

[Q] Wallpaper resolution?

Hi all. I ve just bought galaxy tab and i ve made a custom wallpaper for it. The resolution of the screen is 1024x600 so i ve made a wall with this reolution but it doesn't fit properly with the screen. I ve tried also 1200x1024 but i ve got the same problem. I ve tried to make one smaller, like 800x600.nothing to do. What is the right resolution for a galaxy tab wall?
Many thanks
Luca
Its not the picture that's the problem. Some roms/gallery apps don't scale them properly. They'll either be good quality but not fit the screen, or slightly pixelated and be full screen.

My wallpapers looking good in app gallery; the problem appears when i try to set the wallpaper as a background (i see an orange squared area that highlight a portion of image).
I rather expected to see my picture as big as the orange rectangle, but it's not, due to wrong wallpaper resolution (i think)
EDIT:
i have found this topic: http://bit.gy/Zy
and the resolution suggested in that thread is the same i've tried
As Ganjdroid suggested, it's not the images that's at fault here. Personally, I hate the stock wallpaper app so I use the browser. If you can, put the image online somewhere, browse to it and long-hold it and select "set as wallpaper". That's the best method I've found for setting hi-res wallpapers.
There's also "Wallpaper set and save" in the market which does a good job too.

That's right. Setting from the browser works fine... Strange.
But, the AOSP Gallery will size images correctly but you lose a bit of quality, the stock Samsung Gallery will keep quality but won't fit right at the top and bottom.

Uh, how about giving QuickPic a try? Free on the market, it's an awesome gallery app.

The correct wallpaper resolution is 1024x1200. Look for an app called gTabWallpaper. If you have wallpapers of this resolution, that app will apply it properly. It also sets larger resolutions quite nicely.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab.
Wallpapers have been an issue since the Tab was launched, it seems to be a prob with the way the Tab scales.
Download Quickpic from the market and use that app to set your wallpapers (1200x1024). With Quickpic you'll have no problem at all and your wallpapers will be sharp and clear.
Do you use any HD wallpaper app?

[Q] Lock Screen Wallpaper

Hi to all.
I cant find a solution to my problem and maybe someone can help me.
I have found some wallpapers for our Note in the right resolution (800x1280) to use these in my lockscreen.
The problem is that when i choose a wallpaper with lot of black color and choose it as lockscreen wallpaper i can see some horizontal lines on it.
If i choose the same image as phone wallpaper everything is ok.
Where is the problem?
Thank you all.
I have the exact same issue. Horizontal lines on lock screen, but looks fine everywhere else. I don't have the solution, but maybe I can help you out a bit.
I did some searching, it turns out that there's some sort of software bug that doesn't allow black images to be truly black but rather very dark grey. The thread is somewhere in this forum.
Also the native lock screen resolution is actually smaller than the screen resolution because of the notification bar. Per this forum: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/37268-lockscreen-resolution-compression-issues-false-info.html
Also when you set an image to be the lock screen, it seems the picture is re-scalled and saved again (in another directory), which means compressed again.
Android phones usually don't display images in 24 or 32 bit color but rather 16 bit color, which means color banding. More on that information somewhere in this thread also.
My suggestion is:
1. Find out the native lock screen resolution. I'm also searching for the figure.
2. Edit your photo, change it to that resolution, and make sure the black areas of that image are truly digitally black (000000), and save it as an uncompressed image.
Maybe the horizontal lines are because the image is being re-scalled, re compressed, and the image being displayed at 16 bit color with a "true black but" is resulting in horizontal lines.
The solution is this. I'm using it and black is perfect.

Not bad idea at all...I have used widgetlocker in my previous phones but somehow i had some little problems like small lugs or battery draining.
I dont know if in the latest version is fixed.
But ill try cause i love black lockscreen in our huge super screen...
edit:Not working properly for me cause i have lower destiny...
Ah, what a shame! But WL does work, so if you ever go back to the stock density i highly recommend you using it.
Magick locker is free so you can test that, get a theme and customize wallpaper, set any black image and its fine. so its samsung lockscreen software bug
