I had nadlabak CM7 installed on my Milestone, I saw there was a new version so I downloaded that to my SD.
While I'm at it I'm downloading the new OpenRecovery for Milestone and while I'm in OR I see an option to OC to 1.1Ghz. Let's try it ...
Not a good idea it seems since I'm stuck in a reboot loop. I can't get into the recovery menu via the 'normal' way: Hold x while boot, then hold up + camera.
I started with CM7 using the following method since I could never get into the recovery via the normal way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796679&page=26
Anybody have any tips ?
Any hidden key I don't know about to get into the recovery menu ?
Any other idea's ?
If your bootloader is older version than 90.78, the actual way to boot to recovery is to hold the camera button while powering-up the phone, not the x key.
My bootloader is 90.78
Any other idea's ?

Proper way is X + power, when triangle comes up, Vol DOWN + camera. I don't remember getting in with Vol UP. But I didn't use the combination for a while, it automatically reboots in AOR for me.
Anyway, if that doesn't work, replace Open Recovery folder and update.zip with new one, reflash the phone via RSDLite, and try again ^^.

hey guys,
as i already wrote i got an issue with my milestone and its recovery mode. Today afternoon i decided to flash a vulnerable recovery on my phone and then try G.O.T. open recovery out for the first time. After flashing the vulnerable recovery I tried to enter recovery mode by pressing camera button while pressing power button and then (when the triangle appears) the camera button with the volume up button (the way its always done to get there). This worked out pretty well and i was able to do a nandroid backup, root my phone and install the G.O.T. theme (just to try sth out). Later i wanted to flash a custom rom to my milestone, but since then i couldnt even enter recovery mode, i'm always stuck at the point where the triangle appears. I pressed camera+volume up for 2 min and nothing happened, even entering "su" and "reboot recovery" from a terminal app didn't work. everything else is working fine, could somebody explain me what i'm doing wrong or how to fix this? thanks a lot in advance!
EDIT: Ok, i'm really sorry for causing any inconvenience, i figured my mistake out by accident. i pressed camera + power, released both when the triangle showed up and pressed camera and then volume up, while it should be the other way around i guess, cuz now it worked out fine...
got same problem, stuck on triangle and no reaction on volumeUP + camera…
bump
Is this for the milestone or the vzw droid they have different systems. i know for the droid its power + X for 10 sec while the M logo is up. Im sorry im not to familiar with the milestone A853
Absolute NooB to the NC here, so please be gentle!
I've got four issues that should be no-brainers but they are beating me up. I've split them into four separate posts to keep things clean.
1. Booting to recovery
What I've read is to power the NC off, power on, hold down power & N key until boot screen (which I assume is the "Touch the future of reading" screen), then release both to boot into recovery mode.
Certainly sounds simple.
I can't make it work. Been trying for days.
So, does this actually work? What is the trick?
Timing on that can be tricky, so don't get frustrated. When the 'touch the future' logo comes up, continue holding N and power and count to about 4. Hopefully that gets you, but if not, try 3 and 5 counts. If it powers back off, you held too long, but it won't hurt anything!
I have the same darn problem with mine---but I never see "touch of the future" script, I see " loading". I always see "loading".
CM7 on the sd card.
I have never booted into recovery.
?
I usually reboot to recovery from rom manager.
Thanks! Got it down now. Once I got the timing down, tis as easy as on my original Droid.

That's my preferred method (on my original Droid) but it doesn't work for me on the Nook.
Maybe because I am still booting CM7 from the sdcard?
I'm on the same boat here cant figure out how to get into recovery mode.
I tried the power/N button combinations, reboot into recovery from CM7 desktop, and ROM manager still doesn't get me into recovery mode.

Problem fixed, stopped using stable build 7.03 and used nightly build 102 and now I could get in and out of recovery mode with no issues.
hi there ,
a friend of mine gave me his dead milestone a853 , he tried to update the Android Version and after a successfull update the stone won`t boot again.
whats working and what not
Bootloader 90.78 - working
charging - working
recovery - not working , i hold the "X" for hours ;-)
boot - not working, the "M" is there for 70seconds, screen turn off , turns on , 70 seconds "M" , turns off .. and so on
What i did.. but nothing is working...
flashed the 90.78 Bootloader again ,
flashed a lot of full sbf`s
flashed only recovery
flashed vulnerable_recovery and used open recovery on sd-card
Any Idea , or is this a total brick .. ?
"Edit" it is a German Milestone...
Mate it should work. I don't know what you do wrong.
Just to be sure.
1. Flash vulnerable partition sbf.
(nadalbak / kabaldan site.)
2. Open recovery (I recommend fufu) update.zip on the root of sd card OpenRecovery folder also in the root.
3 check the card, I think I have heard of card issues that makes rom stop booting.
Try removing the card see if it starts, or change the card and see is it enters in recovery.
Format the card.
Try holding power + x. I know it works only if you keep x pushed put wth.
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium
you mean vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf ?
I have done this . nothing ,
i still cant`access recovery..
i`m holding the "X" for 30 seconds
i "installed" open recovery on different sd cards , nothing
without micro-sd or sim card , still not booting
any other ideas
Try holding Power + VolUp + Camera while the device is powered off. You should get the bootloader. From there, connect the USB cable, use RSDLite to flash the SBF you mentioned, and then after that completes turn the phone off again.
Now, hold Power + Camera until you get the recovery logo. (Hold that combo right through the M logo, takes about 10 seconds on mine.) Release the keys. Hold Camera, tap VolUp once, then let go of Camera. Now you should be in the stock recovery. You can now "Install update.zip" from the SDCard using MiniMod OpenRecovery.
I know that with the 90.78 bootloader you might have to use the X key instead of the Camera key, although on mine it's still Camera. If my steps don't work, try again using X wherever I said Camera.
If you still can't get in to OpenRecovery, let us know where the steps failed.
So, did you get the device to work or was there another problem somewhere?
no , still a brick.. nothing is working..
no way to get into recovery , no sbf file helps
i flashed about 10-15 different sbf files
holding x or camera but the only the M appears and the Milestone starts over and over again after 70seconds
same problem..
Hi, i have the exact same problem. Friend gave me the phone to fix after they tried rooting it, but didnt succeed. And now I can't get any SBF files to work either. It starts to go but then ends shortly with a Fail and Error.. Any one have any ideas yet?
Hello,
After rooting my p880, my phone hangs at boot. Just after the boot sound (*pling* ) the phone is hanging. The boot image is still moving.
Things I tried already:
I followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723, which tells to do a kdz update. This is not working, as I am not able to get to the S/W upgrade screen. Instead, when I start the phone using the power button + volume down, i get the Android system recovery menu (3e).
I tried to upload a new (cyanogenmod) rom using adb sideload, but that didn't work, as the file I used was damaged (I will retry with new file).
I also did a factory reset and a cache wipe.
Can someone tell me what is best to do?
Kind regards
X-cal

you're entering s/w mode wrong. dont press power button. just hold vol down and plug in usb
OOOhhhh noooosss....... That's kind of stupid .
Thanks!
Hi there i am relatively new to android modding and rooting etc. I recently tried to install Cyanogenmod to my phone and I succeeded, but the next day my phone began to restart itself, turns out that the power button is broken. We tried to repair it but ended up burning down the processors internal i/o (latch or whatever structure it has) with a faulty multimeter . Now i have to turn on my phone with a dock cable (with 1kohm res) which wakes up the phone, i can access the Download mode by plugging in the dock, and pressing home+down, but the recovery needs the power button signal too.
I can access the recovery by using adb commands, but i need to boot in. If i install a new recovery like CWM, i am stuck in a bootloop and i don't know if i can use the adb commands. Is there any other way to get into recovery mode, besides home+power+up, or adb commands?
Can i install CM onto the phone under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help given!
Not sure how you are going to select options in recovery as you need the power button unless you have Touch Recovery or TWRP recovery. Anyway use this app to boot to recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423071

Well if i install a new recovery mod like clockworkmod then i'll be in one. That is why it is necessary to reboot in it so i can install the ROM.
Rather get your power button replaced.
