So I reflashed my phone wiping data and cache, basically a new 1.3 Gingervolt Rom. Wiped both internal + external SD cards.
My phone becomes terribly slow after a period of time. Unbearable. Freezes, hard to navigate, slow, incessant irritation occurs from this.
Right after I use the App Killer app, the phone performs fine until all the apps load back up.
I don't have many apps and in fact deleted a bunch including google maps, news, etc. What am I doing. It was working fine before the flash (I flashed for other reasons not relevant here).
Any help preventing apps from jacking all my memory???
Use watchdog available in the android market, it'll tell you which apps are using up your resources and allow you to deal with them directly. Using app killers is pretty much counter productive because your system is just going to reload them based on their permissions.

Download Gemini app. It will allow you to change the permissions on apps that start on it's own to make them only start when you open it.

I would go to Gingervolt 1.2 I had the same issue for awhile. 1.3 came out, I got it, and with in a week my phone was stalling, lagging. I scaled back to 1.2 and it was awesome. If you don't have many apps, you should be fine. I have a ton, and a ton of those are ram ready programs (irritating, haven't gotten around to setting them to run on command only) and didn't have any issues myself for a long time. I got 1.3 again, and blitz, but I went with a newer supercharger, and my phone is acting dumb again. Gemini is good. It has a ram cleaner.
Thanks for the advice on the app. It helped a little but it still gets slow and I have to clean up the memory often. Over 100 megs worth.
The thing is I was running 1.3 just fine before I reflashed, so I dunno whats up. Really bugging me though, but I dont wanna keep flashing and flashing trying to fix the problem.
What would be the cleanest way to do a reflash?

Well...you can go extreme and go factory reset, data wipe. I would do a back up. I have done it once before, sucked.

I believe so but where is that?
Best way is with Gemini app. Hit the menu button and it's in the popup at the bottom. Or you can go to settings and clear each individual app.

Yep, the gemini app will clear the cache for each program that is running. You can also go into Recovery, and wipe cache, and wipe dalvik, sometimes the issue is with in the system itself.

I have force closes with that same rom "a.core" has stop responding. Any tips or reasoning why it does that?
no clue !?!! but someone told me to wipe, wipe ext, then flash the rom again.
Yeah, i would wipe and reflash first and see if anything gets any better.

Did you use any back-up programs (like back-up pro, titanium backup)? If so, then there's the root of your problem.
Either way, wipe, reformat, reflash, fix permissions.

Start by removing all of your widgets off the screen and try adding them one by one to see if you have one that doesn't play nice. Widgets are the cause of acore FC most of the time. Try fixing your permissions as well.
Good luck to you guys.
Hey guys,
I haven't been able to find very much on this, so if you guys can help, that'd be great.
This morning, I woke up, and my phone said "low on space". I tried everything from a reboot to taking the battery out, etc. Then I went into Menu>Setting>SD and Phone storage, and something caught my eye. The "Available Phone Storage" area was losing memory as I was looking at it! It decreased from 500kb, and settled down somewhere around 28kb. And two days ago i had 30MB!!! How did this happen?

The only thing I can think of being a culprit would be an app that needs to be downloading tons of data. I know the XDA app downloads data when you view new forums... do you use that a lot?

Ok, try this. Do a fresh install of whatever ROM you're using, and don't install any extra apps. See if you start to lose space like you are right now. Then, install the apps one by one, and you'll see which app is taking up your free space.
Have you tried a wiping and restoring your ROM? That may be your only option. Strange issue to have

my wifes was doing this, i noticed the "contact storage" was almost 80mb! She has over 300 friends on FB and its set to refresh that every 2 hours. Try clicking on menu-settings-then accounts &sync... they are set at default to every2 hours. it would freeze her phone and couldn't receive texts or calls until its don't refreshing sometimes too more than an hour. not sure if this is a complete fix or not just tried it earlier today.
Its the HTC Mail app possibly. There are temp files building up. Only way to clear them is to be rooted and delete them with a file manager.

Ever since I updated to FRG83D I have been having a ton of force closes with various apps like: Facebook, the market, browser. As well everything seems a lot slower like bookmarks take a bit to load and Facebook just force closes when I open a picture or freezes.
I also am not being able to unlock my phone due to the touch screen not responding or the display won't turn on at all which requires a battery pull. This occurs sometimes.
Any idea what's causing this? I'm on a fully stock ATT nexus one.

I have exactly the same issues. It's actually the first time I've experienced a "frozen" touchscreen on my N1, and it's happening regularly now.
Just hoping Gingerbread fixes it
Same here with email.apk
Constant freezes or messages that the app stopped responding and whether I want to force close.
Had a few apps that did that so I uninstalled then reinstalled. Seemed to fix it.
I don't have any problem!! I use this rooted complete stock rom FRG83D.
You can try it. http://www.mediafire.com/?bd0ira8h6rdb9jm

Just try resetting to factory default and you should be good to go! Froyo will backup all your apps so once you are back the apps will reinstall on their own. But make sure to backup app data to your SD card if the app has that kind of option (for example launcherpro, adw launcher and card star) has in app backup option. I had some sluggishness with FRG83d but now it seems smooth!

I was hoping to avoid a full reset. I also am the 2nd owner of this phone and I read that it only backs up the first Google account. But the second one won't back up apps.

That's really strange and very weird ... are you sure about that? But if you reset, it shouldn't take more than an hour and a half to fully recover. Good luck.

So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing defaults and cache. Nothing works. Even reboots or Rom changes don't! Its making me mad. LP will not hold my settings whenever I reboot it to make the changes because it always forecloses. Any suggestions?

Oh I have used ads, but I like how the dock bar slides so there are more apps down there. I really don't like having apps on the screen, to me it looks messy. Plus you can have custom icons. But if worse comes to worse, I have it in titanium backup

As far as your settings not sticking you can go into the system and delete the dbdata/databases/com.fede.launcher folder. I did this and it allowed my settings to stick. Make a backup first in case something goes wrong. Hopefully this helps.
Well deleting it seemed to help, but now all it does is forclose. Never had a problem like this before

I'm not sure about your fc's. Happened to me once with adw. I just flashed back to stock and a master clear with odin and started over. Not the answer you want to hear I'm sure, but it was what worked for me.

Hi guys. In getting a insufficient space error when trying to download from the market. However I clearly have more than enough free space from what the setting tell me.

I had the same thing happen when I flashed Apex 8.x for my Captivate a little while back. It wasn't my first GB flash, but it was the only one that gave me that issue. It happened after I restored user apps from TiBU - I got the "out of space" error from the market when I clearly had plenty. The only fix I found was to re-flash the ROM and then manually re-install apps from the market. I was able to restore the app data from TiBU with no problems.

Reboot and retry.. if that does'nt work wait a few more minutes and try again.
I had the same thing happen to me and a reboot fixed it. Still had 1.4 Gb when the error showed up.
All that reboot won't do a thing, atleast to me it won't, running vs 3.0.27. The error only shows up on some apps ,usually big sized apps like pocket legends. It's a cache related bug that google screwed up on This would be a Fix 'till we get a new update from google. Downside to this fix is that after a reboot u'll have to do it again

Yeah I have reboot many times and have had no results unfortunately. Is the bug a android system bug or is it a bug in the market app? I don't recall ever having this problem before the new market.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I have run into this a couple of times now. I only encountered it with apps I restored via TiBU.
My fix was to just uninstall the app and re-download from the market instead of upgrading the app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The error is in market not android system. I didn't even realized the bug was there 'till I have been told so (all my apps are TiBu-ed), pocket legends I haven't had installed previously and it shows the error all the time. But the fix works, use terminal emulator or adb to run the script.

Ran into this while trying to install Third Blade (49 MB game). Got it to install by removing market updates and installing using old market, but I know the market will update again...
So the fix is to mount a bigger cache directory? Or uninstall market updates like I did. But neither is permanent....lame.
Is the problem with apps that are bigger than 30MB which I see is the current cache size? How could Google be so stupid to screw this up?
Yeah, I stand by google even if they screw up sometimes I mean it's not a big deal since I can grab those apps on the pc and then transfer and install it on my cappy.
Another alternative would be to revert back to old market and to avoid it to update once again freeze market updater in TiBu. Here u'll find the old market in many colors http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957331
Sent from a captivated SensatioN
I like google too but man how could slip by any sort of qualification process. Why would the programmer do that in the first place, is the cache partition typically bigger then 30MB on other phones?
I was able to get the stock market that came with the ROM by going to 'uninstall updates' in management page for market in the settings.
The new Market is back again though so I'll probably have to do a fix again next time I want to install/update a big app. I'll probably do the mount thing this time, I don't reboot my phone for weeks at a time so that's not a big deal. Users without root will have to go back to an older market over and over until they fix it though.
Sorry, but you'll have to blame Samsung for this one. Most phones do indeed have much larger cache sizes. Even the T-Mobile G1 (only 256MB) has 64MB cache.
I have put together a fix for this, but I'm a bit leery to publicly release it. Basically, I ended up doing what Samsung probably should have done in the first place. I repartitioned the device to have a 64MB cache by stealing space from the dbdata partition. This involves a complete phone wipe. It's working all right for me so far, but I do not know what the side effects or long term effects might be. I suspect that one is that any package that includes a dbdata image expecting the larger size will fail to flash...
