Easiest Way to Root a Gingerbread O2X - LG Optimus 2x

Looks like the makers of the Antutu apps developed a Windows program that roots gingerbread phones easier with a click of a button. tested it on my SU660 O2X (Korean version) but i am pretty sure it works with other O2X versions as well. the only downside is busybox is not included. have a look:

Already mentioned a while ago but thanks... it works on optimus.

You can also use Superoneclick, it's a great name for this easy tool: http://shortfuse.org

All there in the stickies!

Noob question about rooting

First up let me say I recently moved from the Motorola Dext MB200 to the Samsung Galaxy S phone.
As I am pretty familiar with rooting and adding roms to the dext/cliq
I am not sure about the Galaxy... is it the same way?
What do I need as I hear people say the Superoneclick method is better
What info do I need before rooting or installing the rom to make sure I have the proper rom.
Basically wanting a stable rom but faster than stock.
ie. wifi - bluetooth
Thanks

Use the search button for custom roms.
Look under the development section for all the available ROM if you are currently on 2.2 froyo you may want to stick there if you are looking for something stable as 2.3 roms are still in a lot of the development stages.
Just use superoneclick to root. lots of videos on youtube if you need help.
I rooted mine about 2-3 weeks ago. I stick with stock but changed the kernel in order to be able to apply a lagfix. I change the filesystem from RFS to EXT4. The difference between the two is distinguishable as night and day in term of speed.

if he is in 2.2 he should upgrade at least to 2.2.1. it's far better.
What I have :
2.2
baseband - i9000NEJP2
KERNEL - 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
BUILD - FROYO.NEJP5
If any of this helps
If I upgrade what do I do and do I need to unlock the phone again?
are you looking to unlock or root?
since you are on 2.2 just root using superoneclick program
if you are looking to unlock, go to the market and down un-locker pro

[Q] Switched from Xperia Arc to LG 2X

Hello all!
I recently took advantage with a fido promotion they offered me the LG Optimus 2X for 49.99$ (used fido $) and I upgraded.
Now I managed to root it no problem using the SuperOneClick program, and it works great.
Now I wanted to ask, the phone feels bulky, no not he physical part just the os. It seems to be preloaded with some of the fido apps and the gui when swipping panels or screens from side to side feels lagged even with out any widgets running.
Some of my questions:
1)Is the bootloader locked and does it matter?
2) would I benefit from flashing the rom to stock LG (unbranding it or w.e its called)
3) are there any good custom firmwares or roms (not sure what they are called even with the arc I'm new to droid)
4)I noticed its running 2.2.2 Froyo, with LG planning to move to 2.3.x Gingerbread, are there any massive improvements? Should I not get my hopes up for gingerbread?
5)This isn't a question its a pre Thank You for your answers, and patience with me

1) nope, not locked. never had any bootloader hacking in here.
2) i personally like the stock rom especially V10d. versions between countries might differ. its just the lg launcher, it lags and of a lower version than lg opt black's one.
3) haven't used any costum rom. currently on leaked V20e european. cm7 and miui have problems with ussd codes, mounting flash drives (int and ext) on pc (linux, windows), not sure what else.
try to use costum roms based on stock roms. its basically "improvements".
4) ggb, sept or oct, who knows? improvements, im on leaked v20e. im not sure what's been improved from the froyo version. . things just work generally. i notice unmounting micro sd on ubuntu & win 7 is faster. unmounted in < 1 second. mounting still takes a while though. ggb is going to be released.
5) not exactly top gun in here. its just pretty basic. have fun.

1. Don't bother with the bootloader. It doesn't prevent us from having fun.
2. Yeah, Unbranded roms are less bulky, they don't have ''too many bloatwares'' but unfortunately some bloatwares are really there.
3. Some leaked V20x roms are pretty good. I'm at CM7 it's great too.
4. Don't make your hopes high on 2.3 via LG.
5. You posted in the right section, so It's alright. :L
Thank You both for the very detailed and easy to follow answers, my last question would be, when I switch between screens from right to left in the widget section (not sure what those screens are called, the home screen?) Should it feel, not so smooth? It doesn't really feel laggy, I can't quite explain it feels like its not "smoothed". Is this the style of swipe? Or is something hindering my LG?
Now, is it worth flashing it or will I still see that jittery swipe?
Again Thank You very much!
I started flashing my LG 2 days ago and it's running a lot smoother now. Especially the lock screen, unflashed there is like 1-2 secs of lagg before the lockscreen pops up after pressing the power button but with custom roms there is no lagg at all.
So far I've upgraded to the latest baseband and tried a couple roms. I like BlazingDragon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053108) and Slick2x with a HTC Sense Theme
Theme = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091727
ROM = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214935
I think it's definately worth to flash this mobile because LG is lacking updates and I don't like their stock apps Good luck!
is it worth to Flash or should I just wait for LG's Gingerbread????
Hi,
you don't have to flash your LG to get rid of the lazy, buggy launcher
you should go to the market and try some other launchers like e.g. adw or go
i bought the adw ex and replaced the lg launcher with it - everything is really smooth and fast - even if i have only a small amount of ram left
another thing i can recommend you is to root your device and remove all the stuff you'll never need (try: root uninstaller from the market) - even this step will improve reliability and smoothness.
in general: i tried different custom roms (CM7, MoDaCo, MIUI, Thanatos and so on)
- some are really fast and smooth (e.g. CM7) BUT features like e.g. a2dp will not work
- others are not that fast (e.g. Thanatos) BUT everything works as on stock
i will stick to the stock based ones, you will have to decide yourself
cheers,

1) Nope, it's not locked. We're free to have fun.
2) Yes, since the last Stock rom leaked (v20e) runs Gingerbread instead of Froyo, as the one that comes with the phone.
3) Yes, there are a lot of custom roms. You should try out for yourself to see which one you prefer, but I suggest you use MIUI (Google it =D)
4)Like I said above, we already have a stock running Gingerbread. And yes, we have performance improvements.
5)You're welcome =D
Thank You guys so much! Very helpful and thorough forum!
My last Question is I managed to use Root explorer, and I wanted to delete somethings/ apps (icons and applications, widgets etc) from the folders and it's telling me that it is read only and that I'm not allowed?
I already rooted do I have to do something specific? Like I want to get rid of anything thats twitter or facebook or whats app cuz I dont use em
Thanks again!
Hi,
I don't know the app root explorer but i think it's just showing you all the contents on your phone. If you want to go a safer way, try the app "root uninstaller" - the one with a yellow icon in the Google market.
Then you will be able to remove Widgets, sns (Facebook/MySpace/twitter) and other stuff you don't need.
By the way: you should install the app "superuser". This will grant other applications root (rights).
Hopefully that information helped you on your way
Cheers

I suggest using Titanium backup for deleting apps and whatever. It's just one click. You can either freeze or just delete them.
Thank You!
I already have superuser, it was installed when the phone was rooted but I will definitely give root uninstaller a try!

1/ Already answered
2/ No need to flash to do that, just install Titanium Backup and uninstall (or better freeze first to test if it is safe to remove them later) the bloatware easily... Titanium Backup is one of the very few app that must be bought....
3/ Two main streams for ROMs (speaking only of GB based ones): CyanogenMod (opensource, community maintained, AD2P doesn't work, HDMI is not perfect, no FM radio app, but HID bluetooth support very good, nightly updates, fast, overclocking built-in), and Gingerbread leaked ROM (non-opensource, no source at all, AD2P and FM radio and HDMI are working, HID bluetooth managing not good, the ROM I use is as fast as CM as it was heavily modded with specific kernel, specific ext4 filesystem, and few other add-ons see in developpment section).
4/ You can already have Gingerbread...See above
5/ You're welcome

New to Optimus x2, Some questions

Hello!
I have just bought my new LG Optimus 2x, and I have some quesitons.
With this phone i have shifted from symbian to android and i have some questions.
Firtsly, (not sure if this is legal to discuss here) do cracked apps exist? Is there something like jailbreaking on iOS?
Secondly, I have seen a lot of talk about rooting. What does rooting actually do?
Thirdly, I have checked the CM7 topic but it is just so big, and the last opdate on the first post is very outdated. Can you explain where to find the newest updates for 2.3 version of CM7 and how to mod my ROM?
And lastly, which launcher do you suggest to replace the stock LG one.
Thanks!
Rooting is jailbreak equivalent, getting "root" admin access.
Apps, well you just search for .apk files on the usual sites, filestube etc.
Cm7 I don't think is the best option at the moment, but I'll let someone else cover that.
Goodluck with your new phone.

Rooting gives you access to admin account so no need to jailbreak something lol, more simple.
Same for apps, Market is full if apps and most if the time you have free ones that will suit your needs.
At the moment you have to choose between CM7 and the leaked GB (like the one I run).
CM7 is still in RC stage but is usable clearly in daily use, leaked GB roms have still some bugs but very active dev are working in it and performance is great !
Not very hard and long to go from one to another BTW... Help yourself and hop in the train!
For speed and clean android-software I would recomend CM7 (android 2.3.7). If you would like LG Software built on android, like stock, there is some leaked customized Roms to install (android 2.3.4)
CM7(CyanogenMod7) : http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
You'll know how to navigate to download of CM7 for Optimus2x when you click on link
As for how to root and flash (install) it, you'll find the answere in the forum if you just search a little.
good luck with your new phone, and welcome to Android comunity
I am running cm7 after being on miui for months and I really cannot fault it so much faster!

I am guessing that means the same as SimDroid said "stock LG"
So, what advantage does stock LG firmware have? If its 2.3.4 it's older. Is it better optimised for optimus 2x?
I have checked the developer subforum for 2x but haven't been able to find any usefull information on the leaked roms.
Could you help me with that?

The gingerbread rom we're all using at the moment is the 2.3.4 gingerbread rom, but there are multiple variations and community edits of it.
I'm guessing your phone is on 2.2.2 at the moment, which is a pretty horrible release.
Anyway go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1002 and pick one. I'm currently using Topogigi 1.9 which is the fastest ROM i've tried, no errors that I know of, fast boot time too.
You need to flash baseband and kernel also, see:
Baseband

And http://adf.ly/2SKAm for the rom to flash.

The advantage of stock = leak GB is that every feature of the phone is working. With Topogigi ROM you have many bugs that have been corrected, and a custom kernel with many tweaks in the system that makes this MOD extremley fast, and very good. The remodded 2.3.4 GB firmware are very different from the original leak.
On the contrary, as it is a leak version, there isn't any official source available, so it's often hard for dev to fix things. And it's not opensource.
CM7 is opensource at 100%, based on Google android sources plus all the dev work. Recently a big improvement was made as Aramcee (the dev leader of O2X CM7 branch) managed to make A2DP work, so now you can have Bluetooth headsets working in CM7, which was not possible before.
Still no Radio FM app in CM7 as radio stack sources are not available, and HDMI mirroring works only at 720p and not 1080. The differences between 2.3.4 and 2.3.7 are not major,in Android versioning the third number means minor improvements most of the time not noticable by user.
Both enable overclocking/undervolting if that's interest you. They are both very smooth and snappy. In CM7 there is a very good support for HID (keyboard, mouses and so on) via Bluetooth. Not in stock GB (no sources).
CM7 was a bit instable those past few days but it should be corrected. Every night you have a new build, but you don't need to reflash every day as there are not at each time new things for Optimus 2X. Upggrading is trivial as it doesn't wipe your data, takes a couple of minutes.
For custom stock ROM, updates are more irregular, but very frequent too.
So no real objective differences between those two families of ROM. If you need HDMI and FM Radio you have no choice.
Okay,
Thanks a lot for your answers and your time!
One last thing:
Lg launcher
Launcher pro
ADW.launcher
slidescreen
go launcher EX

Hi, i am also new to the LG-P990, i got 2.3.4 out the box and my LGE Version is V20d. Is that the latest? Used the LGMobile tool and that says something about Mobile phone not being supported??
If you want to check the newest version for your phone, use this link:

But replace YOUR_IMEI_HERE with (funnily enough) your phone's IMEI.

GPS troubles with Optimus 2x MIUI ROM
Newbie here and I feel like I am the only one that is having GPS problems here. I rooted my phone due to Wind mobile being extra slow with the updates for my phone and I cannot seem to get the GPS to work. Please help as it does not lock on. I checked the GPS config and see that it is set up for T-Mobile but I don't know which one I should use for my provider as the original Froyo did not have this option.
I also have troubles trying other ROMS as MIUI have seemed to lock me into theirs. Error when I try to load another ROM several times.
I'm also a newbie to the O2x,
I rooted and flashed cm7 then "[ROM] Rebuild of Leaked V20o Gingerbread Update" really easy!
come on guys read the threads in android development!
I am also newbie on O2X and quite new on mods and stuff.. my previous phone and my entry to the smartphones was a samsung galaxy mini..
I have Flash CM7.0.1 stable (following some guides here) but the phone is not so stable... many times i check on it and i realize that it has closed..and cause i did flashed it on the second day of the purchase i cant figure out if its software problem or hardware... ill try some other roms soon..

Yeah, CM7.0.1 is pretty old now, and I think you should try a CM 7.2 KANG. Those are very stable too. If you wish you can always add some custom kernels too to increase the performance.

There are so many 2.3.4 official LG 2x rom on the internet, all start with "V20..".
Generally speaking, the letter at the end means the location.
v20d is one of Asian LG official 2.3.4 rom distribute in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
I only know that the latest version now in Hong Kong is v20e.
I am sure you will google a list of LG 2x official rom if you want to.

[Q] 2X / G2X differnece ? most stable rom ?

Hey,
ive just buyed a p990 and put my old Gw620 away.
I was looking at the Android development for this device quite some time.
But it kinda confuses me.
Firstly whats the difference between 2X / G2X ? p990 ? p999 ?
Ive looked in many threads, mostly people didnt answer it directly, some wrote they have different File Systems. Is that all ?
Im also following Ricardo's Development on G+, ics looks promising, but lack of media encoding is bad. Is there really not a fully working stable CM9 Relase Out there for this Device ?
Whats the last Official Kernel which got released ? 2.3.5 ?
Right now i cant decide which rom i should use, since i need a really stable but also kinda recent one...
(maybe waiting until april is best, ive heard LGs gonna put out a official ICS release for this phone?)
Sorry for many stupid questions and my bad english...
greetings
1) The differences between the O2X and G2X are AFAIK only the file systems. Therefore the roms for the O2X won't work on the G2X and the other way around. The hardware on both the phones are the same.
2) RC's ICS rom is the best one available, and it's actually pretty stable. Only video recording doesn't work properly because of the media encoding. (Link in signature)
3) You shouldn't flash original kernels. Use custom ones instead . They're better and have a better performance and battery life. Also, Roms always come with a stock kernel which belongs to that rom. So if you want to flash a kernel flash custom ones. (link in signature for ETaNa Kernel, CM/MIUI Only!!!)
4) CyanogenMod is the best rom out there IMHO. So you might wanna try that. They are very stable and perform really well. (Link in signature)
