Does anyone know how to dim the soft button lights? Screen filter doesn't seem to work for that.

Screen != buttons. And no, they're not dimmable.

you can dim the softkeys with this app :
well as it seems I cant post an android market link, you have to search for yourself :
try backlight disabler or net.beshkendze
there is a free version as well
I just have the paid version, and you can disable the backlight completely or dim them to about 50% of the usual brightness.
the only drawback is that this setting only stick until you turn off your tablet, after you turn in on again, you have to apply the setting again.
but i.e. with tasker, this can be automated.
if you open the (paid) app,and kill it(root),the backlights will be off,if you open the app and use the back button, the softkeys will stay at 50% brightness.
I use tasker on my p1000 to do this everytime I turn on my galaxy tab and it works great.
I know this is just a workaround, but at least one that works

Really? How many percent dimmer? Is it adjustable?

Buttons backlight on GB

Hi,
I find the fact that the buttons under the screen keep lit until you turn the screen off annoying. I often use the tab in the dark and even if you cover them up some of their light "contaminates" the bottom area of the screen, especially with dark images.
Is there any known way to get them working back as they did on Froyo? Maybe if someone could extract the old Froyo backlight driver I could try it on my tab...

I think its a great feature, especially for using in the dark as I often pressed wrong button accidentally. However I do think there should be some sort of setting to adjust when its on all the time and when its not etc.
Try an app called blinker I think from the market.

Screen Brightness

For some reason it is like my phone is stuck with auto brightness on even tho it is off. I had 3 HTC Ones next to each other. My phone was more dim out of all of them.
Any way to edit build.prop or something to fix this?
I also looked for an answer didn't see anything.
I'm on the newest viperRom, stock kernel.
Thanks!

?+1 to this. Power saver has a dim screen option, so while autobrightness may be turned off, it will be dimmer.

[App] Soft Buttons Lights always on!

New here in the HTC one area so please forgive me if this topic was already covered. Being new to the HTC phone I wasn't liking the soft button lights turning off during the day light so this app basically keeps button backlight always on, as long as the screen is on.
Confirmed working with HTC one. KiNDA

UPDATE: The soft lights turn off on occasion and I have to toggle the power button to turn the light back on. Bug I guess but quick minor temp fix by hitting the button
UPDATE 7-/4/13: According to solid.snake (see quote below), Capacitive Buttons Brightness Works well

It allow to keep the keypad backlight on as long as the screen is on, or it can simply switch the keypad backlight off.

Softkey brightness at below minimum?

So I use my phone at night and the screen is still very bright so I downloaded an app called night mode to dim the screen past stock. It doesn't dim the softkeys and I was wondering if anyone here knows a root method on how to dim the soft keys because they are still very bright at night.

Have the same problem.
This is my workaround.
Download full screen! Which will hide your nav keys or you can use GMD gesture pro also to do the same.
Use night mode after that
Thank you a billion times! It works perfectly and just what I needed. Thanks

Screen randomly getting dim

I have auto brightness off, auto adjust screen tone off and brightness set to max. My screen randomly dims and then gets bright again...anyone know what's causing this?
sEnt from thE noTe 3
Hmm is it this adapt display option maybe?
sEnt from thE noTe 3
Same here then I went into my settings to check the brightness (settings, display, brightness) and it said brightness decreased to prevent over heating or something like that ..check it next time you notice it dimming and see if it's the same thing ..pretty annoying
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
power saver uses the dimming option for low consumption of battery and make sure auto adjust is off in display settings

I'm willing to bet adapt display

Power saving isn't on. Adapt display didn't fix it either

I have everything turned off also ..I checked in my settings every time my screen dimmed and every time the same message ..it was driving me nuts for days (still is)
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
I've had this happened to me also.
It seems to be more frequent when I'm using Chrome ( not stock browser ). It suddenly gets dim and then may or may not eventually brighten up again, it's pretty random
Also happens when I'm on the launcher but not as frequent
- Automatic Brightness / Off
- Screen Mode / Professional Photo
- Power saving mode / Off
- Auto adjust screen tone / Off
Is there something else I may be missing?
It happens to me while using the xda app. Annoying as hell. It has the same message as Melissa

Does anyone know if this processor does thermal throttling? That could possibly trigger a power save dim with overheating. If we get root this can be disabled using trickster mod.

The Otimus G Pro had a setting in the hidden menu to disable thermal throttling.

Thought this was an issue with my phone when I got it from AT&T yesterday. Glad to know it isn't just me. It seems to only have the issue when I am in a low-lite area (at least on mine) but when I am in an area with good lighting and the back light is 75% or more it doesn't dim nearly as much. Would be interested to see what a fix would be for this.

So I've been having this issue and noticed it like two days ago, and reading all your responses I looked through and noticed I had one of the features that I thought I turned off. Smart Stay says that it starts to turn the screen off when we look away maybe it's a buggy feature (one I never intended to use but it might be the one doing this dimming thing (being one of the first steps to turn off the screen)
