Today i saw a post on another forum that there is a leaked version of Swype but does this work for our beloved HTC hero aswell ?
No, currently only works in WVGA resolution (Droid/Nexus One) and as our Hero is HVGA, this will not work and has been suggested by people who have tried it.
I believe they are developing it for our reso as we speak? Im looking forward to it!
I really can't wait for this to be released for the Hero, especially after trying it on a friend's Droid.

Thanks. I had downloaded this and tried to install. but it dosn't work.
1. Downloaded this apk.
2. Copied this to sd ram of Hero,
3. Installed this from Astro.
I have MoDaCo 3.1 installed.

Tried this.
Let me tell you what all I did.
After installing this I could't find it in all programes so I went to Astro again and click on swype.apk, so it gave me option of browse file or open Apps Manager. After selecting Apps Manager, there were two options: uninstall , launch. I had selected Launch, which gave error:
"Main Activity not found for com.swype.androide.inputmethod"
Also I had tried Settings>Local&Text>Swype
(I wonder that now I have downloaded and installed Local2 (for Indian region))???

ohh you mean you cant get it up when you install it? This will be the htc keyboard stopping it, its a right pain but you can get them to swap!

ShapeWriter is a similar thing, it's awesome and works on the Hero.
Any chance on some tips on how you guys managed to enable the swype keyboard?
I've got it installed, ran the the tutorial, ticked the enable box etc. but just don't get it to pop up on the screen...
Only thing I've noticed is that the Default option under swype settings just says "Please Wait"
By the way, I bought Shapewriter for the TabletPC and think it has great potential. Especially with ATMOIC layout enabled. But I think the company looks like it is heading towards a dead end. No updates for ages to known issues. Forums have spam on them and questions that have not been replied to for months etc.
Hence I'm hoping swype will be my way forward instead.

I managed to get it working by opening a fresh type screen (Message, Google search) Press and hold on the empty space and it pops up with input options...select Swype

Still a bit buggy, so looking forward to the final version. Hope they do a version for the tablet PC soon as well.

I haven't been trying to understand the changes I made. If you somehow feel that it's a problem for you, then leave the phone as is. Also, I guess this will be usable only for rooted phones.

Hey all,
Starting yesterday, I am having this error with the market.
Any app I try to get will give me that error : download was unsuccessful, please try again blah~
Weird thing is that it really happened out of the blue, because it was working fine until yest noon. I am on CM 5.0.7.1-N1, with the radio that came with Froyo. Issue exists with Wi-Fi and 3G.
I tried : reboot (multiple times), newer CM, Nandroid restore to a point when it was working, deleted/recreated APN.
I m too lazzy to try and downgrade the radio, and haven't tried to install Froyo.
Strange thing is : gmail app won't connect, but the email app will work (well, I knew that it isn't an internet access related issue, but still...). If I try and install a ROM from scratch, the initial Google login will fail again and again.
Actually, I have one suspicion. I am in Beijing, on China Unicom. I know that China hasn t been kind on Google lately. Any other user in China experiencing this same issue? Or does this just happen sometimes?

I am in GuangDong, and for the past 2 days similar things just happened to me.
I didn't use the GMail app but now you mentioned it, I tried it and it didn't work. It is stuck with "No connection (Retry)" screen
Using Email and setup a GMail account works fine with me as well.
Hopefully, this is not one of the other 'stunt' of the Great China Firewall.
Argh...
I do believe that we may be f***ed, at least temporarily...
Let s see where it goes, but if you do experience the same troubles, then it might a nation-wide thingy.

Gmail and the Market work on my US simcard roaming on China Unicom.
I'm in Guangdong; i've also had the same issues with Gmail and the Market at the same time. Both don't work on the network (Unicom) or WiFI connections; I'll have to give that fix a try later, thanks.

The procedure is to edit your host file with the information shown.
I m happy to share this, so here is the easy way to do:
1-get the file rootexplorer, which is attached here, if you don't have it.
2- install it, of course If you do not have a file explorer to get to it, then push the file.
3- open it, then find the folder /etc, open it
4- remember to touch the button "Mount R/W" to change the status of the text r/o into r/w right next to the button.
5- find the file called "hosts", and long press it. scroll all the way down to "Open in Text Editor"
6- there is already a line of stuff in there, so just skip a line and type :
209.85.135.100 clients2.google.com1
209.85.135.101 android.l.google.com
209.85.135.100 android.clients.google.com
underneath. I guess the spacing does not really matter, but they have to be each on a different line, as shown here. Also, it is a pain in the ass to type, so make sure there is no typo at first try
7- in options, save&exit (it creates a backup by itself)
8- reboot (not sure if that s necessary)
9- it works
there you go.

Hi, I am guessing that no, it won't, since you need to access root files. I m not sure but seems to make sense to me.
Sorry! Also, this is what is preventing me to go straight away to Samsung i9000, since it isn't rooted yet...
I didn't root my Legend yet and if i do so and the fix doesn't work, I will be stuck with the phone with no app on it.
At least now I have all my apps and only Gmail and the Market don't work.
Any idea from where this issue come from and if it will resolve itself?
It's the end of the chinese holiday... so maybe some hope...

True enough, it's only those two apps which will not work, but still a little annoying to have to go and look online for the apps and to download them manually.

I installed Gingercruzt rom and Arc Launcher Transparency theme. But when I press the Home button, there is a pop-up with the last applications. When I turn off the phone, home theme of gingercruzt comes back. I tried with " Home switcher " but nothing happens.
boot into recovery
full wipe (factory reset)
reboot
install your arc launcher again
when you pressing home key make sure you not hold it
when you hold afew moment it become recently app
(so press once)
pop up screen will come out (it will ask launch by what?)
sellect arc launcher if you want it and make sure u click on the make it default

1- are u using app2sd or something similar? and u need ext2/ ext3/ ext4 on your sdcard
2- what rom you wearing rite now?
1) No I don't have any application like that. I just move on the games with parameters-> applications -> manage the applications

you have to play with unlock boot loader (be carefull)
flashing kernel (easy)
partitioning sdcard (ext2/ext3/ext4) (lot steps)
or
Download all the app U like with browser instead market
(because when download using market we don't have the installer for the app)
download the app.apk and save it in one folder and just name it apk folder..
so everytime u change your rom, u can simply instal it again and again, and again..
I just use this trick!!

some app.apk u can simply google it..
but almost paid app.apk are not allowed!
I just buy a paid app.apk dvd with my friend
About the boot sound U have to search it your self..
I'm not sure about your rom rite now (R8)??
but u can try this
install root explorer (phone need rooted)
(this app same like file manager but it can see phone and system files)
you can simply search the boot animation folder
on phone directory instead sdcard
search one by one folder
when u get the boot sound or boot animation u can simply delete
(If can't delete) click on "mount RW" on the top right

NOTE:The next step is if you want full ANDRIOD MARKET access now all you need to is instal the BUILD PROP. file VIA Clock Works Recovery this is the build prop. From and HTC THUNDERBOLT which has the same CHIP SET as The Triumph but with full market access
STEP20. Go to your Andriod market look up order and chaos you won't be able to find it on the normal motorola triumph when you flash it to the thunderbolts Build.prop you will and many more other apps like Crackle, Order and Chaos, Modern combat 2, NOVA 2, Backstab etc. Basically it will show everything a thunderbolt can see. I used that phone as my basis because it is similar to ours yet it has more support in the market for apps such as the ones gameloft offers. First instal the Thunderbolts zip from here: androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/ 405837-thunderprop-build-prop-market- access-updated-10-4-2011-a.html
NOTE2: You are going to have to sign up for this forum in order to get the zip required the zips name which your suppose to get is called: MTThunderprop.zip
STEP21. Now go into AndroZip which you should have installed on your phone I'f you haven't been following this forum you get it from the market now create a folder name it "Thunderbolt" now look for the thunder.zip file you just downloaded grab and move to the THUNDERBOLT FOLDER now press and extract
STEP22. Go to Manage Applications, click on market and make sure to force stop first and then clear data on your Andriod Market App
STEP23. Now turn off your phone
STEP23. PRESS AND HOLD VOLUME UP AND DOWN WHILE HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON ALL "TOGETHER"!
STEP24. Now you are on CWR now go to "INSTAL ZIP FROM SD CARD" and simply look for your folder where you placed the thunder.zip now instal or to your phone and your done reboot back
STEP25. Now that your Phones on go to"SETTINGS" " ABOUT PHONE " and you'll see your Triumph is no triumph its actually "THE HTC TRIUMPH THUNDER" lol check the oses its at 2.3.4 there you go guys Thank you for reading bye!..

For those who have market access
1.enable background data in settings
2.sign in market with google account and run the app.That's easy
3.else, try the following method.
For those who live in non-market access country
1.download market unlocker apk and install it.(I use v3.2.5)
2.open market unlocker,switch the "Enable Unlocker" ON(at "Home" tab
3.Go to "Proxy" tab and tap "Fetch USA Proxy(pro version)" and wait until it automatically set the proxy,then switch "Enable Proxy" ON.
After that u have market access.
Sign in market with google account and run the app.It won't show "Invalid License" anymore.I've tested and 100%working

I downloaded 9mm, opened the game, waited for a 1gb to download, and when it was done, i get the "invalid license" message. Tried this with backround data, but nothing happens. I still get this error.

Does it remove all game license verification....like i want to play The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but when I open it says Invalid License or something like that...So if i do the procedure which u have posted the license thing will not come???

I had that error too, but no worries all you need is a rooted phone and lucky patcher and just
1. Go on the app, open menu of patches
2.Go on remove licence, selected patterns
3.chose the licence certification mod; 1st green and final licence vertification ; 2nd to last
4.Boom there you go!
