I've always used Titanium Backup myself, but not out if any problems with MyBackup - it is just the first one I happened to use. Worth buying for automatic restore where you don't have to confirm each app restore.
However, I've read that Titanium Backup crashes when restoring apps on the TouchPad. Hopefully fixed soon but something to keep in mind.

I use antivirus free from creative apps on my TOUCHPAD, avg (free) on my cell. Didn't know they had a tablet version, thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.

I am running ClassicNerd ICS 0.0.4. TB Pro was my choice based on forum comments.
TB works pretty flawless for me. Just had to do a re-install of the rom (mybad, not a rom problem)
TB auto restore gave me back everything just as i had left it
Whether TB works is rom dependent, had to use.an older version when running a previous version of CN ICs.
For screening I use Outlook
Has a bunch of upgrade functions I let lapse andjust keep the background scanner
It had some good reviews and seems to be doing the job. Very light footprint.
Good luck

Use TB Pro here. Never tried MyBackup, so can't comment on that as I've been happy with TB.
Not running any antivirus.

Just wanted to say hi!

Hey guys/gals what is up. I'm so happy to announce that sometime next week my HTC Aria will be handed to me by UPS. Anyway I have been a member here for a while under the HTC Fuze(Touch PRO)section and tinkering around with there android port. That was untill my phones touch screen decided not to work back in june. So I have been Sitting around with my old Nokia that still has the Cingular Wireless logo on the back. Anyway I can't wait to finally be back in the phone game and finally on a true android phone. Is there any apps besides advanced task killer I should keep my eye out on?
Thanks a bunch,
Matt(AkumaMax)
I used Advanced Task Killer for a week or so, then heard some saying you shouldn't use a task killer with Android. After reading up a bit on the subject, I came to the conclusion that they are unnecessary and may actually increase battery drain.
There are a ton of great apps. Depends on what you want to do... I would highly recommend LauncherPro for customizing the look of your phone. Camera360 is a great app for adding special effects to your camera images. I use Appbrain.com to browse the market, and it's companion apps Appbrain Market and Fast Web Installer both installed on my phone. This combo allows me to browse their website for apps and click INSTALL on the website to send the app to my phone and install it without me having to do anything else.
Not sure how adventurous you're going to be with modding your phone. It took me about two weeks to build up the courage to root and install a custom ROM. I don't regret it a bit! I installed Cyanogen 6.1 RC1 and then a couple days later RC2 released, so I installed that. Basic benefits of doing this are upgrading from Android 2.1 to 2.2, ability to side-load apps from the SD card, moving apps to the SD card and off the internal phone memory, live wallpaper support, and I'm sure there are plenty more, but that's what hits me off the top of my head.
There's lots of good help on these boards, I've asked plenty of noobish questions and haven't had a single nasty response. Don't hesitate to ask anything that comes to mind... after you search, of course! =)

Oh there is no doubt I want to root the phone. Just for the fact I want my apps off my phone and on my SD card only. I modded my HTC fuze to the fullist but now it's useless. So I can't wait to get back into the game. I know this phone is not the greatest out there but like I said it's something to get me by untill I decide on the Nexus One or maybe an EVO. Anyway I heard that same info about Advanced task killer so I will probibly stay away from that. I just want the ability of my phone to be the best it can be. Hope to see all you soon.

@911Jason man, you're such a pest! Hahahahah j/k
So, I would go against putting all of your apps on the SD card. I've done a lot of research on this, and unless you have a Class 6 or higher card, running apps from the SD are pretty pointless. There is a pretty decent support forum around, it might take a while to get a reply, but its getting better.
Some of my favorite apps:
Launcher Pro Plus
PowerAmp
Audio Manager Pro
Dolphin HD Browser
ChompSMS

Tasker is the one app I couldn't go without. Use it to automate settings such as WiFi, volumes, brightness. Make your own widgets, automatically send SMS messages. Look for the google group. The developer is there and provides great support.

For all those with sgs2 try villainrom with nymphetamine 2.0.1 kernel.
It works great and for a heavy user like myself I must say the battery life is the best ever.

hello akumamax, welcome. i have had my aria for about a year now and i love this phone with cm7. there are so many good apps out there but the three things that stands out for me are:
1) amazon app store. there's a free pay app every day, and its yours to keep.

Thank you very much for your divine support and suggestion but am not planning to sell it.
I am asking on how to maximize my tab not to gain profit from it. Softwares and application to use since I am already rooted and using overcome rom.
Play with your tab.
Install games and apps.
Lots of stuff to do with your tab.
You can use it for:
i. Playing games
Try Fruit Ninja, it's the only games I have on my tab right now
ii. Entertainment
Try PowerAmp + MusicMatch, you can ideally have the tab play music with lyris displayed.
I don't use it for playing mkv files coz the screen is small, maybe after I get my TV-OUT adapter. Use youtube couple times with it though
iii. Information
Try Pulse News Reader + Boat Browser (It's what I use for the time being)
iv. Social
Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger, Tapatalk for forum, etc..
v. Office Work
Gmail, Ymail, I use connectbot + hacker's keyboard for server maintenance
vi. Etc2..
Lot's of interesting app in the market. Check the market. Have u try ZenBrush ??
Regards,
Jhon
PS: Hope it leads to u to the right direction
yeah, sorry. Just joking.
I agree with wuf31.
Played Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds.
Use Pulse News for RSS based news, and also BeyondPod to get my favourite podcast.
I also use BS Player to play my video over SMB share. You will find it working very well, no stuttering whatsoever. My video files sit in my linux file share running samba.
Use PocketCould to RDP or VNC to your desktops.
Overcome kernel even support OpenVPN, if you need VPN.

Thank you for the recommendation. Will check BS Player and BeyondPod.
Btw, quick question, do I need to install anything on the Windows side to use RDP or VNC?
PocketCould is just a normal RDP/VNC client.
As long as you can RDP using desktop to your windows, you should be able to use PocketCould.
Same as VNC.
The free version can only have 1 connection profile.
The free one also can't have zoom in and out by pinch.
bear in mind that PocketClould claims they don't support linux as host OS, so your milage may vary. I bought my Pro version and found that out (that it doesn't support x11vnc properly). Strangely few weeks back it started to work properly now. Vaguely remember there was an update from market. Maybe they fix it.
Give the free one a go. I was using it for months before I bought the pro one.
BTW, it also offer to let you use google account to ease connecting to hosts, but I didn't bother to try out.
I just key in IP, username/password as usual.

You can always update to CM9 & try the ICS experience, but it's still in development so not all features are available. Just a bit of fun for you to try if you're up for it. I had a bit of fun experimenting, but I'm not liking the fact that the theme engine isn't fully developed yet, so I think I'll be restoring back to the BOCA client.

Just to share my experience since I started rooting it a month ago
from GB 2.3.3, I flashed to Overcome, then MIUI..didnt like it (lots of issues), back to Overcome, then AOKP ICS rom, now a moment ago just back Overcome
I'll wait for a better looks and fix on AOKP then I will be back to it again. Overcome is stable and since I want to have some themes and tweak on the looks a bit, I installed Go Launcher EX, go locker etc....surf for some wallpapers to have some nice views
For now better just go for themes etc with the current rom or you may limit the installation of apps u wanna use for a long time....try out several roms to see which one u like...
PS-I wonder what's the future for our galaxy tab....esp in terms of a fully working rom..
Thanks for sharing. Im still using overcome since most of the people i asked said its one of the stable custom roms. For the adventurous a like ics for our tab is already out but am still reading on it and dont have the courage to flash my tab again hehehe

Overcome is the most stable ROM for the Tab. BOCA is pretty stable too. I haven't had any issues with MIUI, but I don't like having pages of apps with no app drawer. I do like my widgets & folders, so I will be flashing again sometime this weekend or next week...just not sure what ROM I'm going to use at this point.
With all the flashing & re-flashing I've done on my phone, I've gained some confidence in the whole process and I'm looking forward to applying onto my tab some of the new things I've learned. Modding is quite addicting...lol...I feel the same way I did when I first learned about overclocking & modding computers. Now I'm searching and reading through dev guides and tutorials to learn about ROM & app dev for androids. Mostly going to be learning for the devices I have now, like my Galaxy tab & MT4G. =)
BTW, out of curiosity, which size tab do you have? 7" or 10.1"
I got the 7" when the Galaxy tab first came on the market & T-Mobile had it for $599. Of course, I got some good deals signing up for a 2-year contract, but still paid a pretty penny for 2 phones & the tab. It would've been nice if I didn't lose my Vibrant (free phone, not eligible for insurance =\ ), then I could've had something else to experiment on...lol
Anyway, I'll post back once I get the chance to experiment on the tab more.
Using galaxy tab 7 first generation the model is p1000 though am now itching to try the newer model p6200 but performance wise i think it not really wise to upgrade yet but if ever you want to try it better to go for samsung note

Try using V6 Supercharge and install Beats Audio
If fun means more technical enhancements try these.
V6 Supercharger from Zeppelinrox. Its a script not a zip. Lots of info on the main site but just
1) down load the pdf script all the way at the botton of the page.
2) install busybox open busybox and install the latest version of busybox
3) install ScriptManager
4) run the DPF as root and read all the info in the console as the script runs

System apps???!!! A joke!

Ok...
I can deal with crapware, bloatware and all that stupid bits from Google, or Samsung...
But, why, oh why are apps on my Note, such as Youtube, Yahoo finance, Accyweather, and the most stupid Social Hub, classified as system components and if I try and disable them autostarting after startup, I get warning that it might hurt my sistem and prevent if from working at all...
Ok, if that was like Flash, software update, connectivity manager, etc... that would make sense...
But, this???!!!!
How do you people deal with these evils?
thanks...
note is designed for business persons...so such apps are of great use to them...its not CRAP.
Youtube is for business people?
Social hub?
OK. I did not say all of these are definite C R A P for EVERYONE. I don't mind them being there as the phone comes from the store. I DO MIND the maker (software/hardware, whatever) who decides to bet the stability of the system and the device on such apps of highly conditional usability.
It is great to offer all that diverse stuff installed on the Note, but c'mon-let people remove stuff they don't need...
No hard feelings...
Ofcours youtube helps business people a lot..and social hub for teenagers who can keep all their accounts in one place..social hubb is really interesting once you start using it..
P.S : YOU can always delete those apps

Two(three?) words---Titanium Backup freeze :victory:
I freezed the social hub apps and a lot more as soon as i aquired root rights using titanium backup which is a must have app for all rooted phones. And I don't get any error warning messages. I even uninstalled somes as accuweather...
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
Yes, guys I agree with all this above...
But, every time I try some new app that is supposed to do more than the previous one did in this regard, there is always something it fails to cover...
So, you say "uninstall these apps"- Oh, I would gladly...
My phone is rooted and on a stock Gingerbread with Abyss kernel.
Still when I try with these apps any kind of subversive maneuver against those boring apps, I either get warning that it is a system app, blah, blah, blah, or that is can not be uninstalled...
So, does Titanium Backup deal with that too?
As for youtube being used by business people- today everything and everybody that earns a lot of money is called a business/businessman. I mean, you could make an app that sells legal porn and erotica and sell it to big sharks and then present the app as an business app. In this kind of way, youtube is also business type of environment... But, oh, why do I bother...
I am honestly so grateful that we nowadays have this kind of opportunities coming from such small devices... But, being an idealist, I strongly wish we would have more say as per kind of control over the software and the ways it behaves once we have bought the device, without the need to sweat over some hidden error in the kernel of a ROM we want to flash...
But, I admit, I am a spoiled little brat always wanting more...
Hey, they say "if you don't ask, you don't get..."
Peace out...

Well, I did not yet get error messages. Only warnings that if I mess with these critical system apps (youtube and company ), the system MIGHT become unstable and unresponsive..
So, titanium backup, eh? Hmmm.. might try this in a few hours time...
So, it basically walls up those unwanted aps in the cupboard while the rest of the polite housemates are having fun at the party? Without throwing them in the sewage canal...

You cannot simply uninstall system apps using the built in app management. You need apps that can uninstall system apps. Like titanium backup which I count on. Make a backup of the app before uninstalling it, just in case. Another one that can do it is system tuner pro.
P.S. It seems I'm not the first one to mention titanium backup in this thread. Why on earth are you still complaining instead of heeding the advice people gave you

[Q] New to the Forum, Touchpad in mail!

Hey guys,
I just ordered my Touchpad today, should be here by the end of the week. It is used and the previous owner had ICS running on it I believe. My question is, what would you guys suggest I do once I receive it? Upgrade to JB? Any certain mods or kernels that everyone uses now? Just trying to familiarize myself with the Touchpad forums so I can get right on what I need to do once it comes in.
Thanks

There are multiple roms for hp touchpad users and each have there own weaknesses and strengths
The best way to familiarize yourself with rom types is to download the free app goomanager in the play store.
It will help you get the roms
In my perspective i beleive that the rom in the attachments is the best
It has no visible bugs and works smoothly on Hp touchpad
Mic works

There are multiple roms for hp touchpad users and each have there own weaknesses and strengths
The best way to familiarize yourself with rom types is to download the free app goomanager in the play store.
It will help you get the roms
In my perspective i beleive that the rom in the attachments is the best

Thanks a lot for the rom suggestion. Any other suggestions (from you or anyone else) regarding kernels, overclocking, any particular apps that run really well on these tablets or any apps that are great for tablets that aren't so much for phones...? If it helps, I want to use it mainly for work (attorney), like viewing and editing documents, etc.

Westlaw (Next, not classic) has a meh app (basically a glorified mobile web app), but text is much easier to read on a bigger screen. LexisNexis doesn't have one as far as I know. Google Drive is good for documents.
I don't agree that CM10 is not ready as a daily driver. I use it as one and have since the latest preview came out. That's something you will probably need to try for yourself.

Thanks. I have both (Westlaw and Google Drive) on my phone and will definitely be carrying them over. How about running Ubuntu? Any pros/cons when using for my purposes??

I've never run Ubuntu on any hardware (Arch) and I use only CM10 on my TP, so I can't really speak to that. Maybe someone else here who is running Ubuntu on the TP can help you out. I would imagine that the software repositories in Ubuntu could be helpful, like LibreOffice or a LaTeX editor, but I'm not sure how that would work out on a touchscreen.

the only app that i couldn't install is vice city
Office suite is a great app that can edit documents, powerpoints, excell sheets ext.
"There's an app for that!"
Ubuntu is too slow to use as a daily driver unfortunately.

What's a good non root backup app

I've literally only used titanium backup since the first eVo 4g and am looking for a way to backup data as well without root. I'll be getting the SD note 8 on Sprint and who knows how long till root if at all. So bye bye titanium backup. I'm not by any means a noob, just got banned from xda 2 yrs ago, lol, hence the low posts. I've never had any experience with other backups on android. The apks I can pull off my note 4 anytime, but it's the data in some apps that matters most.
Smart switch by Samsung is what replaces Kies and seems to do a great job, it backups all contacts, call log, text messages photos videos and a few other things. Also works good for transferring files to a new phone.

I use Helium. It's not free, but only costs a couple of dollars I think. It will backup most apps (but not all).

Yeah I was looking at that, some people said it didn't work and I was worried about that. Pics, texts and calls I'm not worried about, that stuff is easy to transfer but app data has always been most important and usually only with root. Thanks I'll give it a try.
Helium has worked for most of my apps before. Some apps need root to transfer or backup data.
Helium worked going from my Note 4 to my Note 7. Then from my returned Note 7 to the Note 7 they sent out to replace that for the battery issue. They from my Note 7 to my S7E it worked also. Helium would NOT work from my S7e to my S8+. I am not confident Helium will work right from my S8+ to my Note 8. But I hope it does, since without root and titanium there is no way to backup and transfer apps and data properly and transfer them to the new phone.
I'm going to put my Note 3 and Note 8 in a box and wait for baby Note 11 to be made...I just hope they like each other...
Helium is the only non root app I've found that will backup apps with data/settings. I rooted my note 7 and titanium failed to restore apps with settings for the first time since I've been using it, Helium worked great.
What about 'adb backup' command?

Not app data. If it doesn't transfer app data I'm not interested. Smart Switch can be great if it did that.
