READ UR MANUAL! You have LG PC suit right? Back it up with this! If your phone is rooted, backup with Titanium Backup! (USE search), If your phone is rooted, boot to CWM and do a backup from there, just to be in the save position.
Connect your phone to USB, choose install Driver!
Install it
Then your phone should be recognized, and you should see, if an update is availiable.
If it is, push Start SW UPDATE!
Follow instructions and you have ur new SW installed.
DO a factory reset, since this often solves problems after an update.
Be happy ever after

You need to do your own research. Read the stickies at the top of the forums and follow the instructions once you feel comfortable. XDA isn't a support forum, it's a development forum, these ROMs and other modifications are provided to those who know what they're doing. Educate yourself before you proceed.

Hi,
I am really worried about using one of these ROMs to upgrade my XDA.
A few questions:
1. Are there any step by step instructions to upgrade
2. If I screw up can I restore the ROM back to factory defaults
3. WIll it make any difference pertainig to better phone connection or bluetooth
4. Which ROM do I want, I have downloaded on which is CmaeraFixed, is this the one that I want
Thanks in advance
dont be too afraid....just run the upgrade. Im sure you can done it!
No problem.I had already finished.That is ok....1.17rom
Okay, recently my phone has been getting on my nervs as time passes and my branded phone doesn't seem to be getting an update anytime soon. I heard of darky's rom and i thought i'd give it a try, and i'm currently in the process of doing so.
Before I continue with a few steps though i would like to kindly ask if anyone here could help me with a few questions, i'm doing my best not to wreck my phone.

[www].darkyrom.[com]/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-darkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
These are the guides i am following.
Q1: Rooting, do i need to root my phone before following the second link? Or is that stuff already inlcuded?
Q2: My phone is branded, any steps i need to do before continuing?
Q3: Do i need to format my phone before continuing?
Q4: Final question: is it okay if i'm on windows 7 64 bit edition or is this rather unsafe?
Thank you very much
If you must install that rom ask Darky read Darkys posts and FAQS .

Hi everyone,
I know this will make me sound like a complete noob but it doesnt matter. Any help or any pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
I have a stock motorola milestone 2.2.1. I hate it and have read how stable some of the roms are and I would love to experiment with them. However, never having a windows phone or an HTC before I have no idea how to do this with minimizing the risk.
So I have rooted my phone with universalandroot and have installed rom manager and titanium backup. Unfortunately, I read that rom manager wont work with the Milestone.
All of the threads on boot recovery and other methods seem to differentiate from one another. Is there a safeR method. I know no method is safe. What programs do I need to install on my computer and or my phone for this to work?
I know this a lot and I truly appreciate any help and support from this forum.
Thanks

First of all, ROM Manager does not work with the milestone. So please remove it and dont ever install Clockworkmod recovery on the milestone.
Second, What ROM do you want to install?
You need Androidiani Openrecovery for all your flashing needs of customs ROMS. You will need rsdlite to flash sbf files and offcourse the Moto usb drivers. Check the sticky threads in the development section. There are many tutorials.
This is easily one of the best ways to get everything done in the way of flashing a custom ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983516
Depending on which ROM you want to install, it will determine what you need to download.
After rooting the phone, you will want to flash a vulnerable recovery sbf via RSD Lite, as shown in that thread the VR you should use will depend on your bootloader version. If you are running 90.78, then you can flash this VR: http://android.doshaska.net/rootable
After that happens, you can create a backup of all of your apps using TitaniumBackup.
Once you do that you want to place OpenRecovery(AOR) on your SD Card. Follow the steps from the first link I posted to get that on. You will want to place the custom ROM that you want into OpenRecovery/updates. If you are planning on using CM7, you will also need to download google apps from the CM7 thread here.
Once that is on, you will want to boot into recovery(power+x, see the Moto M logo, then release and push camera button+volume up), apply update.zip.
From there you want to select the Nandroid menu with the d-pad. Create a nandroid backup of what you want.
Now is the crucial step. You need to wipe the caches and ALL data. Choose wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset.
Now is time to apply your custom ROM!
It is recommended to create a nandroid backup everytime you flash a custom ROM, in case of anything going wrong.
Navigate to apply update in AOR, select the ROM that you want, select yes. Once it is done installing, wipe the caches and data AGAIN.
If you are installing the google apps, you will want to wipe the caches, flash the google apps, then wipe the caches again.
You will probably have to apply the baseband for your carrier, so you will need to navigate to change baseband, and apply the baseband for your carrier.
If you followed those steps, you should have a brand spanking new custom ROM on your phone.
Hope this helps.

While trying to update my Galaxy Tab's Overcome mod using the instruction on the site, I failed to read the part that said "Do note that you should NEVER update Overcome ROMs across different bases, like 1.4.x to 1.6.x or God Forbid, 1.4.x/1.6.x to 2.x! You need to do the full-shebang listed below…". When I tried to boot up the Tab, the standard T-mobile screen came up, followed by the picture attached. Does anybody have a possible fix for this?
*sighs* thats why we say read the guide fully before attempting to flash. Do that first. After you're done read it again. It will tell you everything. Start by booting into download mode and restocking to the stock firmware then follow guide directions word by word to install FULL overcome.
PS make sure your tab is well charged and your FINAL warning: REAd THE GUIDE!
Thanks...but how do you restore to stock firmware? I can't seem to find a guide that makes sense to me (I'm new to this). I don't really want to attempt to follow the guide and mess up again...

this is the stock firmware from t-mo, thanks to rotohammer.

Sorry for all the questions, but, after restoring to stock and following the install instructions for Overcome v2.0.0, my Tab has been stuck at the "the Overcome experience" screen for quite some time now. When going through the instructions, there was only one step I did not follow exactly; on step 6, instead of letting the Tab automatically reboot (it never did), I manually rebooted it. After that, I put the zip folder on an external sd card (the Tab would not boot and instead stayed on the "android" screen) and installed overcome...Should I restore again?
After updating my new Optimus 4X to 2.1 by waiting on LG's official update it seems slow and hangs when coming back to the homescreen so since people here said they have no issues on CM 10.1 I attempted to read up on how to do it all but got lost amongst all the sticky threads and various downloads etc to try and find a reasonably easy way to update to android 4.2.
Is there a more simple way to do everything I need to follow to have my phone from the current 2.1 latest LG update to CM 10.1 with 4.2 such as a single step by step thread in plain english that even new users could follow or view in a video? (I have previously updated a Sony x10 via similar methods but can't fully remember everything)
Threads/Sites I looked at that left me a little confused included:
Root method for v20a (and probably later) firmware (Had also looked at a site with instructions to use Googles sdk kit and cmd.exe to run adb oem -unlock...)
Update firmware through flashing the kdz files (With Picture) Step by Step (liked the look of this but is it needed if we already now have up to 2.1? Then tried to get files from CM 10.1 official site which never made much sense using this method requiring KDZ files or can .zips be used?)
Official ClockworkMod ROM Manager Downloads (tried a download of these then the latest seen here as Nightly releases but wasn't too sure how to use them after reading their wiki took me to some more serious looking developer areas)
[JB][412][CWM] ClockWorkMod 6.0.2.8 (FREEDOM for EUR-xxx) (Just started getting confused by here)
If anyone could help explain what happens in this whole process it'd be greatly appreciated as I tried reading a lot but ended up lost, and if there is a fairly straightforward way to do it if it can be shared to help anyone else too...
If not does anyone know if LG are likely to fix the issues with homescreen freezing/slow icons loading (phone non responsive for a few seconds - there was a couple of threads here, one with a solution that never worked) or bring an official release of 4.2 or beyond and should I just wait till then or try to go back to a working 4.0.3?
All help would be appreciated to point in the right direction with all the right threads/guide sites/videos needed to follow please.
Root your phone. Unlock your bootloader. Install recovery with ROM manager or off the thread in your post. Use clockworkmod to install cyanogenmod. I will not explain more because I fear you haven't done enough reading and may run into problems. Do the things I said in that order, and read the guides thoroughly. All the info is already here
