I wonder if enyone has this problem(and if there is a solution)- i have an mp4 video -1 hour 20 minutes, 800x480, bitrate of about 1500-8000 kbits/s. It runs perfect on stock 2.2 android, but as i installed 2.3(tried both official and unofficial builds) it began to lag near the end of the video(first half of it plays perfect). The situation repeats with all videos that are longer then an hour or so.
Have you tried another video player?
Like mobo player or something?
Sent from derp-mobile
Same thing repeats in stock player and mx video player(with hardware decoder, software decoder works fine, but that loads CPU, and lags at high bitrate spikes)
Maybe it has unsufficient free memory left
Try to kill some apps before play the video
Or if it's an auto-run-to-background app, block it for a moment
See if it's doing some change

I've been streaming via share folder on ubuntu the whole movie all the time without any glitch using mx video player. If ur video store in sdcard, maybe check the card.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
I don't think that something is wrong with SD-card because i've tried my 8 gb 6 class card and stock 2 gb card, and second half video lags on both of them. As for the RAM i checked it - there is about 230+ mb when i start the video and when i reach the part when it starts to lag it was about 200 mb. But i don't know where is the video buffered to or if the system reports free memory correctly. I'm thinking - as this problem only appears in android 2.3 - could it be that it's LG's fault and maybe they'll fix it in the next undate?

Thanks a lot but I am facing really bad lag with it. It works in slow mo
coreplayer ?
Tried Core Pocket Media Player it just crashes
Tried the updated version available here on xda. It plays most of the stuff but with a lag. A bad lag.
tried lowering the resolution of the media you are trying to play?
Nope just placed 3 files(avi, mkv and mp4) in my internal storage to test them. They are regular music video files I play on my pc
I'm using Coreplayer 1.3.5 (latest if 1.3.6). I can play a full size 700mb xvid using coreplayer and dont get any lag or freezes, unless i get a sms or call at which point it lags for a few seconds then goes back to normal.
anyone have any suggestions for the best video viewing app for the gtab?
thanks!
Rockplayer.
Video Player
I'd have to go with MoboPlayer. Much better UI than Rockplayer, and doesn't seem near as choppy. Plus you can have a library type setup too. Check it out, it's free on the market. Also, when I downloaded the one from the market, it had me download an older version when I loaded it up for the first time. The older version actually worked better for me.
I like mVideo player. It runs very smooth on the G tab and it does have a library system with the ability for you to download cover art.
vital
my preference goes to vital player..

I like this player too but for some reason my avi files and mkvs sound seems a little low. I've raised the volume to Max and its still a little faint. Mp3s sound fine and plenty loud, I've got the volume app and tried raising the sound there but little difference...any suggestions?
Mobo player for sure. It is absolutely amazing.

Is there anything out there that plays 720p or 1080p videos? I have tried rockplayer universal, moboplayer, mvideo and all of them were choppy.
BTW, I'm running VEGAn-tab ginger rc1

I run Vegan 1.5.1 and 720 p is choppy in every player (and audio is hit or miss).
Is there some way to run those well in pre-gingerbread?

It depends on the file and how it's encoded. I've got a bunch of recorded TV that I've compressed to 720P mp4 files for my HTPC. They run about 1 Gig/hour. The only combination I've found that plays them on the GTab is the Calkulin+Clemsyn combo with Mobo Player. Even then I sometimes have audio sync issues. I'm sure I could transcode them on a different setting and get better playback, but that's where I am right now.

So is there a ROM that runs 720 and 1080 videos with hw acceleration ?
Guys, use the hardware encoder and make sure your video file is MP4 H.264 - I said this because I spent 1 weeks just for trying to get better player and turns out ---> It's all about hardware encoding/acceleration.
I'm currently using QQPlayer & VitalPlayer (both free version) and all my videos are 720x480 MP4 H.264 (this give me a good size of file 1.2GB each movie)..AND MAKE SURE YOUR PLAYER USING HARDWARE ENCODING rather using software encoding!
Video converter software that I've been using (IMO) - very low CPU usage, 12hr for 10 DVD movie conversion in MP4 H.264 720x480 with subtitles is WonderShare Video Converter Ultimate - pretty good converter and average CPU usage (all 4 core 3.3ghz) is 15% - repeat 15% all cores' CPU usage....
Tried another such Cyberlink Media Espresso, Movavi converter - LOL they are all running 100% CPU utilization
Good luck guys!
ughhh dude....You WANT IT TO BE 100% CPU utilization................
Unless its using Cuda or Open CL...
lol....
I found a new player I am trying out. arcMediaPro can be found on the Market. It has some great configurations but it too struggles with some HD movies. I use my GTab as a video player to hand my drivers to review their practice session as they get out of the race car. Just grab the microSD from the camera and put it in the GTab and launch the video and hand them the GTab. I do notice the audio has some syncing issues on some recordings but I am still going through the settings which are more complex than any of the other video players I have found. Here are a couple of links to these in-car videos..

I downloaded MoboPlayer and it is working good. I do have the volume softness issue though. Any fix for this?
Guys, i have a problem with my i9001.
My phone is rooted and i installed the gpu "new" drivers from the development page. I have upgraded from 2.3.3 that comes default when i buy it to 2.3.5 through KIES, not through ODIN, so it's with vodafone ****s or whatever.
Anyway, the problem is the following:
I want to watch some mkv .720p tv shows on it (like dexter, supernatural, etc) and i tried with a couple of players but every single player will decode the mkv in "SW mode" not hardware, so it won't play properly and it will lag. I tried with bsplayer, mx video player, mobo player pro and even DICEPLAYER (the full version).
So, any ways of playing 720p smooth ? i guess it's because of Adreno 205 which is weaker than Galaxy S gpu.
Come on, 130 views and no replies? sorry for double posting.
Oh, and i didn't installed any "speed" scripts like adrenaline shot or whatever.
Fact is i just bought the phone and i don't want to lose my warranty already. Do i lose it when i install adrenaline shot for instance ?
Update: My actual ROM is I9001BUKP2, which is Vodafone branded and my phone is simlocked (most likely).
Can this be the problem ?
Update 2: Very weird thing happened. I put an episode from The Walking Dead, 350 mb .avi to run with MX Video Player and surprise, even .avi LAGS in hardware decoder, but i'm lucky that MX Video Player got S/W Decoder FAST and it played almost smoothly (95%, still little fps drops).
After that, i tried with an episode of Grimm, this time 720p, .mkv but WEB-DL (even more better than normal 720p releases of groups like IMMERSE, CTU, etc) and the HARDWARE DECODER went AVAILABLE this time, but it lags terribly. I tried with S/W Decoder FAST and lol, it worked almost smoothly.
So, what the hell is the problem ?
Could it be my I9001BUKP2 firmware ? it's official, updated with KIES, i guess it's the same as this one on XDA.
bumpy ^^ ........
still bump .... come on :|
Update: I am now with XXKPS 2.3.6, still the same problems. MKV 720p are laggy, and every single .avi movie is laggy in hardware decoder as well. only softare decoder can decode avi movies to be smooth, but 720p still be laggy.
hey guys .. i curently have feamod v.1.3 based on CWM 5 0 2 7 .... what change if i flash 1.4 ? i use cranium RC7 update 1 with kernel v6 cranium 1900 ghz
but i wanna flash broodrom RC2 final but i don'w know what kernel to use... is v6 1900 cranium ok wit broodrom ?
Well then, how about re-encoding your movies using e.g. xmedia recode or SUPER or whatever? Choose a lower resolution. That's a phone, don't expect it to play HD content - on the small screen that does not make any sense at all.
Well, for others it works perfectly, only i seem to have problems. And anyway, samsung is reporting that this phone can run 720p movies without a problem.
@arialth, GET THE **** OUT.

same issue here, i tried a 720p movie on my i9001 and it used SW decoding in mx player.
I noticed one thing though, after installing mx, it didnt ask for any codec to be installed, i expected it to ask me to install the ARM7 codec??
Same problem here, the moment you want to watch a 720p mkv video you can't use HW decoder.
I am using 0.1.0 cm10 ROM from Ivendor with 3.0 Kernel.
Use VLC, it supports hardware decoding of all media formats.

Already tried that, I've done some search around and I think it just can't handle a 720p mkv.
Bear in mind that the I9001 has a better CPU but a worser GPU, so it's possible the I9000 is able to handle 720p mkv better.

Also, Samsung does indeed report that the device can run 720p movies in mp4 or whatever format.
Seeing as they're own video player doesn't have a mkv codec it is possible there just isnt mkv hardware support.

I have tried MX player also. But it lags.
Try in MX player to change decoder settings to S/W as standard. It worked for me in some cases.
Try qq player..

Just to understand it better..
I believe that your media files are on SD and your SD card is a high speed card. Most of the media playes use inmemory buffers, if the internal memory is low or if your memory card is slow you might observ lags.
I hope that this is not an issue in your caes..
Salsa only runs a single core Qualcomm MSM7227, running at 800mhz and you may not get smooth video compared to you PC. Firstly, I use a minimum class 6 micro sd card, for faster read/write times. My personal pick of video player is QQPlayer (free), available from Google Play. Approximately a 5mb download and if you use "app 2 sd" (root not required) and move QQPlayer app to your sd card, it takes up less than 1mb of internal memory.
Now the good news. I can play 720p all the time and some 1080p videos, that play, but may have sound and audio sync problems. QQPlayer will play AVI, FLV, MP4, 3GP, MKV, MOV formats and supports SRT, SMI plug-in subtitle and MKV embedded subtitle. If you Google "1080p movie trailer downloads" a fair number of web pages will have numerous HD movie trailer downloads in various qualities.
I didn't get on with qq, so I started using mx player, I feel it handles movies better and plays just about anything too throw at it. Some HD movies do lag some, but I don't mind if it's not majorly distorting the film.
BB is using Xparent Tapatalk ICS Blue
With a lot of you guys recommending MX Player, I thought I would download and try it today. I have a stock standard HTC Salsa (not rooted) and my benchmark for testing HD videos is to go for broke and play 1080p HD Mp4 format.
The MX Player stalled on playing Big Buck Bunny and Avatar Trailer videos, both 1080p Mp4 format. However, QQPlayer played both fine, with slight out of sync audio on voices only.
hi all,
first let me say thanks to all the devs for all of your hard work on the nook color.
I just picked up to nook colors for my kids graduation presents. I am trying out cm9 on 1 and cm7 on the other to see which I like best. I am having trouble finding a video player that does what I want it to do. all of my tv shows are stored on my media server running unraid from limetech. all of the files are in MKV format.
currently I use my hp touchpad running cm9 to watch anything I want. I use es file explorer to browse the server and dice player to watch them. this works great and I would like to do the same thing on my nook colors.
I can browse the server just fine but I have yet to find a video player that will play the movies or tv shows. nothing works in cm9 or cm7. I've tried it with both hardware and software decoding and at stock speed and overclocked.
can someone help me out or offer any suggestions?
thanks again...
try mx player.
thanks. tried it (and mobo & rock player). no luck...

when I select a file and choose:
mx video player - mx starts. if I have SW decoding on, the video framerate is agonizingly slow and lags way behind the audio. if I have HW decoding on, I get no audio or video and eventually get a message "cannot play this video with H/W decoder".
dice player - immediately comes up with "sorry, this video cannot be played"
mobo player - SW decoding: same as mx. choppy video and lags way behind audio. HW decoding: quits responding and asks if I want to force close, wait, report
rockplayer: SW - video is choppy and pixelated, no audio.HW. - blank screen, no audio.
I did a bit more digging and found Plex for android.
plexapp.com. (sorry,can't post links yet)
it uses media server software on the pc side, transcodes it on the fly and sends it to an app on the mobile device. nice thing about this is that it presents the files in a jukebox sort of fashion, not just a list of files. and I can watch (or listen) to anything on the server via my wifi at home, wifi away from home or via 3g anywhere. plus it comes as a plugin for my unraid software.
I'm still in the research phase right now, but will let you know how it goes...
I'd lower my clock speed to 1100 mHz and try mx player with s/w decoding again there's been reports (although I have not confirmed) that above 1200 may cause some playback issues.
