Hi,
im having battery drain problems the phone wont last more than 5-6 hours send 20-30 texts listen to some music, i have turned off backgroud data and live wallpapers, im using something called advanced task killer free to kill the apps that are running, but i close them the re open the task bar and stuff like music player has reopened
ive also seen a post about which batterys are better is there a better one i can buy? my batterys a G7
any ideas ?
cheers
Stop using the task kiler and you'll probably see better battery life. Task killers have been proven more harmful than helpful on the newer versions of android so using it is pointless. Also pay attention to what you have synced and how often. tons of web apps synching will drain the battery faster, as will having the gps and wifi turned on--if you're not using them, disable them.
thanks for the reply i will remove the task manager,
auto sync is turned off and i only use email by refreshing the inbox
Come here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884816
In short: Have you recently updated via Kies to JPY version? If so, stop using your wifi. There is a bug with wifi with this newest firmware.
hi,
i update to 2.2.1 through kies
Do you use wifi?
If yes, switch to data, battery life will be better. You should be able to get around 48h of light active usage (i mean browsing and calling and what not) with 3g data on.
i dont really use the wifi, signals really good around me, i only got the phone friday, brought it of a friend,
charged the phone fully before i went out last night about 7pm by 1.30am the phone had cut off, that was only using the facebook andriod app and sending text messages.
Than there is something terribly wrong. Do a wipe and factory reset, if you didnt after getting a device from your friend.. It seems that some application misbehaves and drains battery.
You can check it by typing *#*#info#*#* in dialer
Several options there, if there is something strange you will see it. (suggest looking into Battery history, usage statistics)
i dont know how to type in dialer sorry sounds very stupid all i have are digits

Have you tried reconditioning your battery yet?

About my battery life:
Previously I was on Darky's v5, with that the phone lasted 2-3 days with normal usage.
After flashing to v7 (with 100% battery) I also got the fast drainage problem. Here is what I did:
1) Turn OFF phone
2) Charge till it says it is FULL
3) Start in RECOVERY
4) WIPE battery stats
5) RESTART android (yes, it might already be on 98% or so)
6) USE phone heavily. Don't worry if it drops too fast. Use it till the Android system turns OFF automatically (it happens when your battery is below 1% - for me the phone was on 1% for about 40 mins. This is where it heavily myscalculated
7) PLUG IN your charger, TURN ON android and wait till it is FULLY charged again. (It is better if you don't use the phone at this charging up)
Now, after you disconnect the charger, you should still have 100% for some time (I've been using the phone for 32 mins - writing this post - and it is still on a hundred percent) and with this, I got back the 2-3 days battery life with normal usage.
Also, you should set WiFi to: "Never when plugged in" and by default I disable Data Network. But my phone is using WiFi all the time so it doesn't really matter
So to summerize this method, the key is to show the phone the battery's minimal capacity too, by using it till it is on null. Because with charging to 100% than wiping or flashing only introduces the maximum capacity to the system and the minimum is only guessed. THIS gives the faulty reportes and makes us think the phone drains too fast.
Try this method, than feel free to share your results

nvm, 'info' stands for '4636'
You could also use titanium backup and freeze some apps from running

Thanks.
Same problem
hi
I have the same problem. I bought it 2-3 days ago. today i charged it full while fone was off, switched on at around 8AM my usage detail was
3g was on
gmail on sync
skype on sync
5-10 min of skype calling
5 min of normal calling
5-10 min of facebook browsing through android app
30 min of chatting on skype
at 2PM the fone was at 20% battery. My wifi and gps were off all day.
is there anything i can do to get atleast 15 hours of battery with normal use
regards
harris
If you are having issues with your battery, before you try killing tasks, changing setting and what not and especially if you are running custom ROMs, then you need to recondition your battery. The same goes for anyone who is having high drain issues.
If you follow the steps I posted from someone else's post and then find that your battery is not having issues, then start looking at your modem (if using a custom ROM or you've upgraded to new firmware).
ive done a factory restore, ive found what my usage says idle 4% the display 80%
contrast is switched right down
i know im not using any custom roms im using the firmware that you download through kies

Data network activated (2g or 3g) phone die after 11 hours.
When data network deactivated phone die after 2 days!
I installed whatsapp, gtalk and one email account with 10 mins refresh.
I never use wifi.
Drain 7 - 8 % per hour when phone idle (Phone on with 3g data but without using it)
I really don't know how to "finger pointing" suspicion app via battery history.
BR
Since everybody has some problems with battery drainage i thought it would be usefull if everybody posts his or her battery stats after some time so we can compare them so we can find and solve "problems".
Add in your reply:
-Which rom are you using ?
-How is your battery doing over the night ?
-Is the battery inaccurate like it doesn't go higher then 98%, drops from 100 to 50 after some time or after reboot,... ?
-Which kernel ?
-2G/3G on or off ?
-CPU adjustments ?
-Programs freezed ?
- etc.
My stats:
-MDC Fear 5.3
-Drops 5% over 8 hours but when using it goes 20% over 1 hour
Which i didn't had with stock rom so i guess Fear 5.3 is the problem
-Doesn't go higher then 98% and after a reboot earlier it jumped from 100 to 42
-Kernel: 2.6.32.27-g9f26g51-dirty (Eternity kernel)
-2G and 3G diabled
-CPU adjustments 1ghz standard. When in sleep : 216mhz
-Programs freezed: Don't know because bloat freezer says it needs to be updated but i already have the latest version
-Go weather widget, netqin antivirus
Tracking battery status with Battery monitor widget
-TK-Rom v0.6
- I loose 5 to 10% per hour without doing anything !
- Sometime even if i have the "battery fully charged" popup, when I unplug, the battery indicator shows 98% ...
-2.6.32.27-g9f26g51-dirty
-2G/3G on
-1000MHz max and 300MHz min (foced when screen off)
- No freezed program
- Only one widget : Genie Widget
2 Push mail (hotmail exchange + gmail) + 1imap (checked each hour)
If I install Juice defender (free), my battery last 2 days.
Without Juice Defender, the phone turn off after 10h on (with only some SMS sent and 10min on XDA) ...
- Which rom are you using ?
Factory ROM, updated to V10b.
Baseband: 1035.21_20110405
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FRG83G
- How is your battery doing over the night?
11pm to 6am standby: Dropped from 100% to 95%.
- Is the battery inaccurate like it doesn't go higher then 98%, drops from 100 to 50 after some time or after reboot,... ?
Charges to 100%. Seems to hang on to (stay at) 100% a bit longer.
- 2G/3G on or off?
3G always on. Disable wifi when out of home.
- CPU adjustments?
None.
- Programs freezed?
None.
- Locks up when I use the car charger.
- Battery manufacture date: 16 Mar 11.
- Haven't pushed the performance much, but have watched an hour wmv file over HDMI, played Asphalt game and occasional continuous conversations lasting 2 hours. The phone behaved perfectly.

Allright so we can already see that the stock rom's don't have much of draining or am i wrong ?
because my stock also had less then 5% loss at the night
but your 3G is ALWAYS ON !!!!! :s
you mean that you can always use 3G without doing anything else to your settings after disabling wifi ? because the 3G icon is always noticeable on the status bar even when it's disabled

Yes. When at home both 3G and wifi are enabled.
GSM coverage is not great in some parts of the house where my router wifi is strong; while some rooms far from the wifi router gets decent GSM coverage. So, I just let the phone choose whichever way it wants to connect when at home.
When I leave home, I manually disable wifi with a widget to save wifi scanning for router whenever the phone comes out of sleep. 3G works everywhere else, so I just leave it on 24/7. 3G power usage is negligible when there is no data traffic even when it is enabled, it's basically GSM on standby power.

I think EDGE is like a fast GPRS connection, right? I had used GPRS (aka 2G) quite some time ago, and IIRC, GPRS is billed by data connection duration rather than by data traffic. If it's also the case for EDGE, you MUST NOT leave is enabled 24/7, or else you will get a gigantic phone bill at the end of the month!
But regarding EDGE's power usage, I am afraid I am not entirely sure if it behaves like a 3G connection. Best is you test it out while monitoring battery drain, or google around for the info.

I'm gonna try the old style Nexus One's method of battery calibration. Hopefully it works, though I am not confident.
1. Plug-in charger standby, do not turn on charger yet.
2. Drain battery till it auto shutdown.
3. When it auto shutdown, immediately turn on charger.
4. Let the phone charge for 4-5 hrs.
5. After 4-5 hrs, power up phone.
The above was the Battery Calibration for Nexus One before N1 has its own Battery Drivers build-into kernel and a proper Battery Calibration Application (found in Market).
As I said, I'm not confident but will try this method. Will report here if success or failure

Probably a good idea to have a small fan blowing to avoid the phone shutting down from the heat from a long recharge. Might also have to go through a few cycles to reach the battery's full potential, probably don't need the empty-to-full cycle. Please let us know what you find out.

I've accumulated tiny experience over at Nexus One Battery Calibration and I know a small thing or two about how "some" batteries work.
The thing about Nexus One battery is it has in-build EEPROM so its the almost perfect battery to perform calibration. As for O2X, its still infant stage so no one look into it yet. But the theory "should" be similiar.
I'm doubtful but hopeful
Edit 1 - heavy usage with screen on for 4.5 hrs. 12 hrs use. Manage to drain battery till 0% and it auto shutdown as I expected. Now performing off charging for at least 4 hrs. I was surprised to see before it auto shutdown where at 0% the voltage was 3362mV. Pretty impressive I would say. Now I'm optimistic ...... will report soon.
Edit - failed while auto shutdown I plugin assuming it was charging. 4.5 hrs later I power up and it is at 1%. Fail!
I plugin and start charging. Monitored the charging process and found for the first time the phone was cool while charging even cool till 100%.
I'm now using this new charge and seems good. Its cool, no longer hot.
Now i have got CM7
And must say that battery is holding out much better at sleep
4 hours and not even 1% down
So i would advise to switch to CM if you are trying some new roms !!
Have you guys tried the app BatteryCalibration from market?
I had the same prob as many of you, and this solved it for me.

How to calibrate battery..?
I found application "Battery calibration" and it says:
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.

But I didn't see any changes.. My battery stays around 13 hours...

Yes only a few calls, and sms, but synchronization is on (2G only). Average battery life ~ 16h( 2.3.3 KPE), but better than villainrom 1.0 (max 7-8 h)
how is possible that after 19 hours you have still 75% of battery. you dont use the phone, is only in standby? the fully charges were with how many hours?
I have installed Battery Calibration as said, but its asking to root the device. What is root? Sorry for being noob. I am new Android phones.
Ace's battery won't stand for a day with moderate use. It's battery drains faster than any of my previous android phone. Before ace I've used Sony Ericsson x8 and Galaxy mini, both's battery can stand for 1,5-2 days. I usually put my phone to airplane mode during my sleep time from 11 PM to 6 AM and on galaxy mini's battery drains only 0-1% in the morning, but on ace the battery drains 7-12 %, it's horrible.

Juice Defender, Set CPU, Auto Memory man., Autostarts and Tweaks for instance.
Use quick setting to access and switch/change the brightness, mobile data, wifi.
Check the apps that uses unnecessary CPU with watchdog, you can uninstall watchdog when ure done your evaluation.
Don't use apps such as Advance task killer(if you dont know what ure doing), it might give you even worse battery time. Many background apps doesnt use any CPU at all, they only take up RAM.

Hi to everyone on this thread. How long have you had your Ace & have you given it a chance to "settle in"?? I easily get 2 days+ with average use ie/ wifi/games/calls/surfing. The battery needs time to calibrate itself, no apps necessary. Takes a few weeks. At this moment I'm on 2d 15h 17m 45s with 27% left! Phone is left on all day/night & I disable wifi/3G/syncing when not required. My % stays the same overnight, no drop. Hope this helps. GrahamF. London

That sounds quiet unbelieveable. What Firmware are you using?
Though: Turning 3G off all the time means that you also dont have background synchronisation, right?! That would surely save some juice, I guess.
You can still sync with 2G, it'll just be slower than with 3G and saves battery, but since he mentioned turning off 3G and Sync in one go, I guess he disabled both.
During holidays I switched off 3g and sync off due to avoiding data roaming abroad and had still 20% left after 2 days with one charge.
Used it during that time for occasional SMS, gaming and taking pictures, and scanning for free Wifi hotspots.

Hi Deathmetal X, I'm using the stock out of the box Froyo 2.2.1 on 02-UK. No mods, just use the inbuilt task manager to close what I'm not using & turn 3G/wifi on & off as I need it. I don't need background syncing & I just collect my e-mails (3 accounts) & Facebook, Twitter etc...on a regular basis. I don't have loads of widgets wasting battery either, just F1 & weather. I use it a lot on wifi + games & calls/texts. Today I'm on 3 days with about 17% left. Biggest drain on battery is the 3G, trying to connect & re-connect all the time! None of this restricts my use/enjoyment of this great phone & well worth having it in my hand & not plugged into the wall! Graham. London.
Nice app_ I use CM7 before the battery is drain_ after I calibrate the battery I think my battery life increased. good_
Hello guys, sorry for my bad english, but I'm not American. Well, my question is:
I bought from a guy a Galaxy S I900b, Brazilian model with digital TV. Came with stock 2.3. As I had already read enough before, upgraded to JWB Saurom with semaphore kernel, which I think is the default for this rom. Well, the phone had very poor battery life, evn on idle. Then upgraded to 10.2 CM. I saw that had some wakelocks, and with BBS and the help here, I used the Scan Media Root and my problems are gone in iddle. So, my phone goes into deep sleep and today during my sleep, only lost 3% battery, 3% battery drain on idle during about 5-6 hours it very good to me. But during use, it ends up very fast, and with GSAM and standard monitor of the android, I saw that after the screen, the Android system was what had higher %% battery. So what could it be ? The battery life is ok, checked on info, and its condition is 'good'. I use to Greenify, and close almost every game\app, so running is just grenify and ram manager pro.
So the prob just could be a app or the 'android system' ? Or even hardware ?
I dont have much time now, so any info or screenshot you want, I can provide later
Thanks
What about your connections? Do you have 3G/wifi enabled at all times?
calibrate....maybe useless, but u can try....but somehow, try bigger mAh battery, maybe.....n maybe .... it will help.
juz charge it with screen turn on till it full, n waste it to 0% till it shut down, turn it on n charge it with screen on till it full again, u ll be fine
if problem occur again, keep an eye for sneaky app that run at background (email...exchange etc) n juz delete some sys app that u dont use using titanium.
if it still occur again, wait for arc reactor battery....

I've deleted the batterystats.bin and used until 0%, so charged while off, but nothing :C
It's true that the battery needs to 'learn' ? Like, a few charges and discharges and could estabilize ?
I'll take a few screenshots right now
Callibration of you battery eg: Wipe battery stats is onluy helpfull when you get weird battery stats.
If you are on any CyanogenMod ROM you have to get used to the higher ammount of battery use by the phone. The application Greenify can help a lot by hibernating the huge battery suckers like facebook and google maps.
Some tips:
- use 2G instead of 3G
- Turn WIFI off when you're outside the house or leaving for some time
- Turn GPS/Bluetooth on only when you're about to use it
- Dont use taskkillers (they are used to free up ram but killing apps makes android restarts them and this consumes extra juice)
- Put brightness on Auto
- Use a dark theme and background/lockscreenwallpaper
- Dont recharge your phone when below 5% this can damage the battery
- A new battery needs to "Get used to" the life of being a battery xD After a few recharging cycles it will work like normal
Here some screenshots, if need more, just ask
Note: Was with 14%batt, rebooted and drops to 11-10%

- A new battery needs to "Get used to" the life of being a battery xD After a few recharging cycles it will work like normal

i am using greenify on almost everything.
used to use ram manager, but now i've disable it.
brightness is on low
I really dunno what 2 do ... almost 1 week with it and this insane drain, everyone says that plays or browser on wifi and get almost 10 hours... my dream this happen to me lol
Remember that this is just on use, on idle it use virtually nothing, like I said, almost 3% on sleep, but is just I start use with app or browser and its gone
Screens are from a too short period of useage. Use it from fully charged, and make some new screenies This can help futher
Well i got problems with my battery too so im planning to buy a new one because this one cant even handle 3-4 hours when im doing something like playing games,or listening music...Just buy new battery with more mAh and dont get bother with this

if calibrate doesnt work, hardware faulty, change ur battery mate.

About 2 hours later that I fully charged, here are some ss
Just used whatsapp and opera in this time
I was thinking in change my kernel, currently I'm using semaphore 3.0 with CM10.2, is Latrop or Mackay better in battery life ?
I think its my last shot ... I'll provide a new battery next week, but i've heard some people with batt probs that even with new batt the problem persists :crying:

It looks like wifi and 3G have been kept on for most/all of the time. Turning those off while you're not using them may significantly increase battery life.
Also, related to kernels, personally I've found Mackay to be a bit better in terms of battery.
Also it looks like your screen's pretty bright if 61% of the battery usage is because of it. So if you don't need it so bright turning the brightness down may help.
Start by doing those, and see how your battery life fares first- if not much changes, then it may help getting a bettery battery/changing rom even.

So, like i said, in this 2 hours after charge, i've used opera mini with wifi, I dont use 3g. Right now the battery is less than 10%... it's strange since have people telling that can use almost 5 hours wifi and the battery is > 50%
And the brightness is at lowest bright :\
The problem could be some corrupted file ? I have the options:
- format EVERYTHING, and dont use titanium backup, since somthing can be corrupted.
- change my kernel to Mackay
- change my room back to SAUROM 2.3.6 adn semaphore kernel
I'm very sad cuz I have a very old Nokia E5 that can be on with wifi almost or more than 10hours ... and this phone can barely hold 5hour
What u suggest me to do ?

How long have you been using the rom? Roms take time to calibrate the battery and this is through charge/discharge cycles.
Alternatively, go into Performance settings and change the profile to powersave/conservative (it differs from rom to rom). Lock the min CPU frequency to 200mHz- apparently this helps.
Again, this would change depending on your kernel.
And if you have a three year old battery like mine, best not to expect miracles...

Using bout 2 days ... but i didnt knew about ' calibrate '. Good to know that
Now i've formated everything and will put a stock 2.3 and see in a couple of days the perfomance ... if gets better, I put the saurom 2.3.6 and be with it, cuz 2.3.6 on brazilian model allow to use digital tv, and 2.3 everyone says is economic.
I'll get this updated if my situation changes, if not, will buy a new battery
Thanks for all your help
Note: How long your batt last ? With high\low usage
hi !
At first i tried to get some GOOD answer from the official forum ,but... pfff.... lol : they said factory reset my phone ,delete batterystats.bin ,etc.
These are voodoos only and do not wok ! (OS always creates a new stats file after every charge)
Well ,here comes the problem(s) and the facts about my phone:
Warranty : yes
Model : c5303
Rooted : yes
Bootloader : unlock NOT allowed (LBL,never touched)
OS : Stock based. (no matter what ,i have the same issues)
Service center : NOT FAULTY
The problems :
1. A real example :today i had 61% charge. Powered off my phone for approx. 5 mins. After this turned ON ,and i had 81%. What the hell ??? It is a real charge level ,drains lineary it holds out till the end !
2. In official 4.3 and custom ROMs based on that ,STAMINA absolutely doesnt work. I have exactly the same standby time with or without it. Forget the force stop eco ,etc mode controller ,clear data, etc. It doesnt work !
Logcat LOG : http://pastebin.com/NSV7j68T
Created with my phone from a terminal window. If you need something else ,please let me know.
A real fact too : with stamina off ,the OS calculates the remaining uptime to ~4 days. I turn on STAMINA ,it displays ~15 days ,but after a few hours it lowers to the STAMINA OFF value. Why ????
3. Phone configured to totally OFFLINE mode in 2G. Just like an old Nokia 3210. EVERYTHING is off ! Everything. Even NFC too.
Freeze with Titanium Backup ? It doesnt help.
I have the same issues with every stock based ROMs ! (Dont forget ,i have LBL !)
Guys ! What can i do ? This is not a normal situation !

I'm not really sure how your phone behaves in term of battery drain.
First are you using Greenify? If not, make sure you do!
Do you have any background process that drains your battery like "Media Server", if yes you can make a shell script which you can execute from the terminal or use init.d script with init.d app. (Both are quite easy, if you need help I can give you some guidance).
Download CPU Spy and check if your phones goes into "Deep Sleep" when you're not using it.
Use Wakelock Detector to see which programs "wakes" your device, how often and for how long.
Share what your battery life is on average and in stand by mode.
Most of the time the phone calculates the remaining time on the average reading for the past few hours or smth like that.
In my case (just giving you an example), I use stock .205 ROM, rooted, stock kernel, Locked Boot Loader.
With Greenify, Media Server script that I exec from the terminal and Stamina mode, I drop like 1% of battery every 6-8 hours when I'm not using my phone (3G, GPS, Wi-Fi on all the time. NFC & bluetooth - off). I mostly charge my phone before I go to bed, and when I wake up it's still at 100%.
because of my poor english knowledge ,its pretty hard to draw up the things.
well ,greenify. i use it ,but i cant greenify system apps/services ,only "playstore" things. (all my apps are stock apps ,bloatwares are freezed with TB)
wakelock detector. nothing(!) keeps my phone awake ! nothing !
according to the OS' battery stats ,i have no awakes ,the display has the highest consumption ,everything else has lower percentage.
cpu spy:its interesting.. once im in deepsleep ,other times NO ! and yes ,i refreshed the stats. but when in deepsleep ,i have the same amount of drain when not in deepsleep !
btw i know what stamina is and how it works.
ok ,please tell me how can i use/create that greenify/media server script thingy.

Well if you have some battery juice leak, than maybe it's hardware problem as it seems, cause from what I can tell your software behaves perfectly fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For script you just create file called let's say "mediaserver.sh" or whatever you wanna call it as long as it has ".sh" at the end.
You edit it with text editor and paste:
#!/system/bin/sh
killall -9 android.process.media
killall -9 mediaserver
in it.
Place it anywhere in your phone. Let's say SD card.
You go to terminal and type:
su
exec /mnt/sdcard/mediaserver.sh
exit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But in your case you don't have Media Server or any other app eating your battery juice, so if you have poor battery life it's the battery itself.
Best thing you could do it, stress test the battery.
Charge your battery to 100%. Unplug the charger.
Go to dialer and type #*#*4636#*#* → battery information → battery voltage should be around 4150~4200 at full charge. Everything above 4100 is healthy battery.
Go and set your screen brightness at 70-80% and play a game. Your battery will should last at less 3h.
Then charge the battery to 100% again. Check the voltage. Put your phone in stamina mode and see how much your phone will last if you're using it only as a phone, without playing games, internet, etc. See if you can get more than 2 days.
If results are good then I would not worry about anything if I were you.
thank you ,i will try it !
have a nice day !
