Selling my Note. Which ROM ? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm selling my Note today, which ROM does everyone recommended to flash before I sell it? It needs to be a full ROM so the guy can update. Thanks.

A Stock rom from this section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

the latest stock rom

1.Keep as it is (why to take chance to brick)
2.As per choice of buyer
3.Flash with wipe a older ROM, so buyer get choice to update/Root it easily.

Yeah I think I'll just flash a stock ROM with root and call it a day. Thanks a ton guys, you Note guys are a friendly bunch.

Why are you selling? You won't find a better phone anyway!

I bought the Nexus. I prefer stock and an easier to handle size. Also the Rogers Note is coming out soon and my contract is almost up My girlfriend is gonna be a happy iPhone 4s user on valentines day though. I couldn't convert her so I had to trade it.

If she didnt convert then shes not a keeper bro... just sayin..

I knew there would be a reference to an Iphone in here somewhere...lol.
Note to a Nexus... I hope you get on with it. As for which rom - flash an early Samsung rom is your best bet, from the region you got it from.
Feel free to check out "our" forum as often as you want - you'll be most welcome. We're a friendly bunch as we have been around the block so many times, in search of the best phone available

What to do if I want to unroot and flash rom?
In dr.ketan's stock ROM post, he wrote...
"If you are not rooted n dont want Root
just flash with PC odin, (same as Older ROM Installation shown above)"
What if I am rooted, but don't want root anymore?
Can I still just flash with PC odin? Would it mess up because the Note was rooted?

yes you can flash stock rom with Odin on rooted note, without issue. It will make your next rom unrooted too.

[Q] Galaxy note noob alert!

Hi guys,
I've recently purchased the galaxy note from an Iphone and I am definitely loving my new purchase.
However, I require some assistance/guide to rooting my phone. I have 2.3.6 XLA6 version and I am having trouble locating threads on how to root this version.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.

Go to section 2.
You'll have to flash to 2.3.5 first then root. Just read it over and over and it'll make sense. I came from an iPhone and it took me a couple days to get used to all the android language...
Good luck!

+1 You can't root 2.3.6 but if you really want root, instead of going back to 2.3.5 why not try the leaked ICS rom, it comes rooted!

+1 but practice flashing with stock roms first so you don't brick your phone...
I learned flashing roms first then I tried the Midnote ICS rom which I highly recommend over all the other roms.

And how do you propose that he flash ICS without increasing the binary counter? His Note is unrooted.
Ayway, going straight to ICS would be unwise at this point, IMO. ICS poses enough problems for experienced users, let alone fresh ones.
So I'd stick with gingerbread for now if I were you. When you get some experience with your new phone, then you can flash anything you like.

You can't without increasing the binary counter, but if he's going to root it, he'll lose his warranty anyway, if that's what your worried about. Flashing ICS with Odin is very easy. I did it on my Note coming from 2.3.6 and works with no problem. But yes, it DOES INCREASE your binary counter.

Never said you increased your binary when rooting! I said you lost your warranty when rooting! I think you should read first, before being aggresive! I'm just saying what worked for me.

You lose warranty when your binary counter shows 1 or more, not when rooting. If your counter is NO, you can always flash back a stock Rom (unroot) and your repair service will never know you have tempered with your phone.
As I said, do some reading before offering advice.
Just i want to add this
Dear, rooting lose warranty, but it is very very easy to regain it by just simply unrooting(flashing a stock ROM is just enough)
while if you raise your counter, really nothing more difficult in note thn to reset it on GB. So i do favor chasmodo's concern.
anyway
@slippage
download this and just start with I have non rootable ROM, i dont think you will have more query after this.

Either you dream of having it..... or you can root your phone with. GB there are many methods, next download CM night.. version don't remember which its now but you'll flash it simply using CWM if you don't have it flash a kernel with CWM and watch your counter

Or you can follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802 and follow the installation instructions and/or videos to get this AWESOME rom on your device :good:
Take a look here:

It's all you need to download and use any of our amazing custom roms. Just make sure you're on GB, choose the right package, run it and then go browsing custom roms to find the one you like
I personally recommend AOSP roms. Go for CM9 or Paranoid, those are probably the best available - though some might disagree, i always consider AOSP roms as best.
Yeah now I'm rocking cm9 flashed a stock rooted gb rom then flashed cwm via mobile Odin then flashed cm9/gapss and that's it

Super Bricked My Galaxy Note (Binary Count =0)

I super bricked (no download mode or recovery mode) my Galaxy Note while restoring from CWM backup last night, I had LP8 installed, binary count is 0.
I have already sent it to the Samsung Service Center, question is: what should I expect??
FYI : My motherboard had been replaced 2 times already earlier due to emmc bug.

What on earth are you doing to consistently brick it? If you're under warranty then you should be ok - given that the emmc is a known issue which they're aware of..
On a side note, I'd suggest not being so flash happy and a little more reading before you mess around..
Good luck..

I was tryin to get navigation bar like that in Nexus, had created a backup if smthin went wrong, I haven't flashed any custom ROM, and ya its under warranty, and I have decided I'll be buying only Nexus series from now on
Good thing you have warranty, but still bricking it 3 times now, I wouldn't want my device on the service center it's inconvenient and really not worth wasting my time, I'd rather be very careful flashing than going to the service center for repairs. But anyways that's my opinion. It's your device and you can do whatever you want with it
Please have a look here, before you transform your note into a brick... for the 4th time

No I didn't do it on purpose, I had followed steps for flashing ParanoidAndroid ROM, I flashed a stock GB ROM as asked, but in both attempts I got my phone soft bricked, is there any guide you can suggest for a fool-proof way of flashing without bricking??

Than I guess I'll have to stick with the stock ROM and wait for next Nexus to be launched, I had GSII previously and flashed ROMs without any worry, and fyi I did follow every instructions, I'm not a noob

There is a safe way to flash, this is why a lot of people do it successfully...
My thoughts are that you followed instruction to a degree.. If you're on a Stock GB there's no fear of Brickbug at all...
I am wondering if you flashed Abyss in ICS - or did not reboot recovery after installing Abyss....
Which steps did you follow and which ROM, I've flashed PA without issue after downgrading to GB via PC ODIN, Rooting with SpeedMod and then flashing PA..

I don't think Galaxy Nexus is coming to India ever. You should probably get it imported or ask some relative to get it for you.

You did not follow the steps.
Stock ICS kernel had the bug that will brick your phone.
Always instal a safe kennel, reboot into recovery and then wipe, then instal new ROM

Restoring in cwm under ics kernel triggers brick bug. This has been documented since the bug was found and is all outlined in the stickies all over the forum. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for someone bricking for a third time, there's just no excuse for this short sightedness.

Any special procedures?

Okay so my friend has a Samsung captivate. He is on 2.2 and I would really like to help him root and install cwm and a stable cm9 build. I see a lot of one click methods but I'm not particularly sure which one to use... I have an s3 which to me seemed easier to root and install cwm. All this eclair, froyo, and gb things are hurting my head. And just driving me in circles. But if I had some direction it would be appreciated. I just want to know what I need to do to get ,root, cwm, and cm9 thanks ahead of time!

I don't claim to know everything but I do know this. Being that he is on 2.2 you will have to flash to gingerbread first and make sure whatever you flash has bootloaders included otherwise you will have a bricked phone at some point along your way to CM9.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Go to that link and it will give you several one click options to get you to a variety of stock GB roms. Also for your intitial root there are several one click applications available that will get you fixed up you should just have to google them.
Yeah I'm used to having to flash new firmware, flashing cwm again then new Rom.that was on my old sensation. But thanks I will tell him to update to gingerbread via kies.then I will flash a custom kernel via Odin then just update to cm9
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Stickies also have some good instructions.
Okay so he just upgraded to 2.3.5 so am I going to need to install boot loader as well? or am I just going to use the one click tool
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If he is on 2.3.5 GB already, root the phone and flash a corn kernel so he will have a working CWM
If he has kk4 gb 2.3.5, then he has the gb bootloaders. So all u need is to flash a kernel with cwm and then the Rom of ur choice copied to ur internal sd and u will be good to go. So see this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19425513&postcount=1

Yes GB bootloaders are the requirement and are even backwards compatible. You should be able to install anything from Eclair to Jelly Bean now without problem. But as the previous response states make sure you follow the directions for whatever rom you are using so you are less likely to run into issues.
Yeah I just ran into problem after problem tonight. Finally got cm9 installed and his imei for changed. I am running into every speed bump possible with this phone

Im assume your devices havent rooted. And wanna go for custom ics rom.
1) root your devices ( dr.ketan thread).
2) flash speedmod or hydracore kernel thru rocovery or mobile odin.
3) reboot recovery and do full wipes.
4). Install rom. Done.
