Is it just me not seeing tablet UI in apps? - Dell Streak 7

Hi all. Curious if anyone else is having issues getting tablet optimized apps to show the tablet UI. For example, Google Voice. Everything works fine, but it doesn't have the split plan like the Gmail app does. Another example is the mint.com app. That displays the phone UI on my Streak 7, but shows the tablet UI beautifully on my HP Touchpad. In fact, even the new Chrome Beta displays the phone UI and not the tablet UI as I'm seeing on my Viewsonic gtabet.
Thoughts? I'm running 120 DPI on DJ_Steve's ICS B4.

Your DPI settings might be preventing those apps to show their UI properly. Someone else can help you with the optimal DPI settings...

Market in portrait only shows 1 screen load.

Newly rooted NC & market noob.
When I view market in portrait I only see 10 apps & no more screens. Page won't scroll. Everything is fine in landscape, but was just wondering if I am missing something.
Thanks,
kev

We are spoofing as Droid X using the fingerprint in the hacked build.prop to gain access to android market and the actual resolution of NC is different, so the Market app does not draw more than 10 items at first. Switching to landscape forces a redraw. One of those limitations I guess. I wonder if we should be spoof as Galaxy Tab instead, as the resolution is identical to the NC.
OK, thanks. I'm OK with that as long as I can't do anything about it.
Installing the new Market app fxes this.

Nook App - Touch Issues

Anyone else having touch screen issues with the Nook App running on CM7? I can touch the Types drop down but when the choices appear, I have to touch "My Files" several times to select it. It takes a ridiculous number of tries, otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. Same applies to the gears icon on the top right of the app. That is the icon you have to click for logging out. And I have to click it some 50 times for it to work.
I thought I had touch screen issues in those areas of my NC but I just had a chance to play with another NC and it had the same issue with the gears icon. My Files worked after a couple of tries.
I am not entirely sure what is going on. I like the app and will not mind switching to it (from FBReader) but this is driving me insane.
Yep, I have the same problems. I've given up on using that app, and just use Aldiko for my reader.
Thanks for chiming in. I now know I am not the only one.
This issue and the fact that it always starts at home and makes you pick a book every time you start are the two big annoyances with this app.
On the other hand, it looks gorgeous with smaller fonts and Amasis is a very readable font at smaller sizes. It even makes the other fonts render beautifully. So much so that even the sans-serif fonts look very readable and easy on the eye.
Oh and calling the brightness dialog fades the screen so you can't tell exactly what brightness you are getting. Seems like no one ever used the app in real life.
I have been using FBReader for a couple of weeks but I have only one font that is usable on it. I have tried Amasis and other Nook fonts but they don't render as well in FB as they do on Nook. FBReader is very plain and boring (yet functional) so I was considering switching. Yes I am vain and distracted easily.
Not only are you not alone, but others have commented on this since it came out.
It's a shame, because it otherwise is a good reading app. If it also read Nook magazines, I would buy more of them, but I'm about to switch to Zinio for magazines because I can't read them on the Nook app unless I go back to stock.
am I missing something? I read magazines fine on my app...

Yup...mine displays magazines fine also. What version of the Nook app are you using? Should be 2.6.1.35...the newest.

I had the same issue with the nook app with CM7, the screen in the too right (no matter what orientation you are holding it) is extremely unresponsive.
Its odd because I just changed over to Miui for nook and the problem does not exist any more. So it is obviously something with CM7 (but not Miui, which is based off CM7) I also believe I had the same issue with phiremod.
Also, have never had a problem reading magazines with any of the roms.

I had touch issues on my Nook app reading magazines. Eventually got it to work - but it wasn't easy to get it to load my magazines and respond to touch screen. Other apps were working just fine.
I hope they get it worked out - was kindof a PITA to deal with.
Cuhulin, have you looked into dual booting? Mine is set to dual boot between tock and CM7 since my 4 year old like the "elephant book" it came with.
mg1030, is this http://www.miui.us/ the miui you speak of? It seems intriguing. Are you running it from SD Card? Any pointers on how to install it to NC? It seems very iPhone like.

Swiftkey X at 160 DPI

I have been running SwiftKey Tablet X on my Nook with CM7 for awhile without issue but on the newest nightlies the keyboard is huge. It looks normal at 161. Does anyone know if there is a way to correct this and while leaving the DPI setting to 160?
Thanks.

Nope, it's always been like that at 160. Takes up probably a third of the screen as I recall at that DPI, less than a quarter at 161. This isn't new.
How to correct it? Besides setting the DPI to 161? If you don't do any market clear data stuff you can set it back to 161, restart Android or reboot the tablet entirely, and if you need to later for market reasons, set it to 160, do the market data reset, then back to 161.
There are apps in the market which might let you set it on the fly, never tried them.

I thought that is how SwiftKey tablet x was always intended to look like. I love how big and easy it is to use. And number pad in the center now shows up in landscape mode along with fully functional space keys. The change to an lcd density of 160 made this keyboard awesome. If You miss the way it was previously displayed then use SwiftKey x for the smartphone.
I have both and I prefer SwiftKey tablet x this away. If you saw the screen shots of it running on the galaxy tab 7", and you would realize that it was always intended to run this way. So embrase it, and use it and love it.

CM7.1: B&N Nook App does not seem to work @ 160dpi

Anyone else having trouble running the Nook Android App with CM7.1.0 stable with the default 160dpi setting? I just migrated my NC from 7.0.3 to 7.1.0 and I'm having issues with the magazines (they are all "on top" of one another when you try to expand the stack) and the informational windows are all the wring size. I tried clearing data from manage applications and also uninstalling and resinstalling the app. Nothing seems to fix it. It's kind of a pain.

It is a known issue and a problem with the app.
So, there is not a fix for it currently. What I end up doing is archiving all the magazines but the one I want to read and the archive it when I'm done and unarchive the new one. Its a long process but it works. I don't want to have to change my DPI every time I want to read. Maybe someone will decompile the API and see what they can do to it, just like the original Netflix APK.

Thanks for the info, guys. It seems ironic that the nook app would not work properly on the nook. I guess I will just do the archiving thing until B&N gets it straight.
B&N App
Download LCD density set it to 161 ,reboot and your nook App will work as it should .

That will screw up the market. You can use it to change the density for the session but I would not set it to remain on reboot.
A possible solution for you
I use Nook Odds and Ends from the Market. Set dpi to 150 and all works well for me. I am on Phiremod, but it is based on CM7 so should get same results.
160 actually cause more problem for me so i've switched back to the stock default 169.3333
161 also work

Looking for lightweight launcher to use on my old Nook HD+

I'm in the market for a new launcher. I've used the Go Launcher for years and it's been a great launcher, but the past several updates have gotten more and more resource heavy. It's a great launcher on a newer tablet, but not so much on an old workhorse like my Nook HD+. It would be great if I could just find an older version of Go, but I can only find the newest version on the Play Store. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, lightweight launcher I can try on my old tablet?
Thanks.

You can find some old versions of many android apps at http://en.uptodown.com/android -- e.g., for your Go Launcher: http://go-launcher-ex.en.uptodown.com/android.

FWIW, I've been using Nova Launcher on my HD+ for several years and am very happy with it.
Thanks for your reply. I had thought of looking for an older version of GO, but the problem with that is that then it's always going to want to update. I too have been running Nova Launcher for the past few days and it seems much smoother.

I second the Nova Launcher which runs great on my even more ancient Nook Tablet.
I have a number of apps "frozen" and you should not discount that as a possible "solution". Just access the PlayStore on your tablet and go to "My Apps". Selecting an app you are taken to its page and in the upper right corner are 3 dots. They access a checkbox for "autoupdate". You can uncheck this and the app will no longer autoupdate. The trick is to do this before you replace the newer version with an older version. You get reminders of updates available from the PlayStore but it will never update those apps in the background without your approval.
Also, a few apps like ES File Explorer (talk about bloatware on the newer versions!) have a selection in Settings to check for updates. That also needs to be unchecked. So maybe look at that with Wi-Fi off at first.
