Hi everybody, my problem is simple and dumb... i bought a Gtab 8.9 for Christmas, it's working fine and i'm very satisfied, but i'm stuck with the default firmware, honeycomb 3.1, and sometimes it kinda freezes, and i wanted to try a newer, 3.2 or maybe ICS firmware... and before flashing some mod i would like to see if there's any available from kies... well, it's been more than a month and i can't seem to be able to properly connect it to my pc/laptop with kies and the usb cable... i tried re-installing several times kies, did the connection error/unplug/uninstall drivers/reinstall driver stuff countless times on both desktop and laptop, but kies always ends up saying "device error-unplug" or "device error-reboot"... kies wireless works fine but i can't search for new firmwares, the cable works fine and i can charge and/or transfer files in a breeze... i looked for some usb settings on the tab but found nothing... what am i missing? every time i plug the tab it goes straight on autoplay, and kies won't recognize it... if i turn it off and plug it kies doesn't find it either, nothing changes.... can anyone help?

I don't remember too well, but have you checked the USB settings at the (I think) Applications section at Settings? Anyways, Kies...well, I don't expect too much from it reliability-wise. Sometimes it bricks tabs when updating (already happened in this forum). If it still doesn't work, hey, see it as a good sign. Something preventing you dealing with that thing!

I have a SGS from Bell Canada, installed Kies on my PC home computer. Was having the familiar problem of connecting the phone to the pc, but finally solved the problem, thanks to tips from this forum.
I recently upgraded to JH2 via Kies. I also have connected numerous times using mass storage option to transfer large media files.
Everything was working fine until I tried to connect to pc today (as mass storage), and got a message from computer saying "USB device not recognized". I tried to connect via Kies but no luck either.
I thought it was a problem with the USB driver. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling "Samung_USB_DRIVER_For_Mobile_Phones_x86, v 1.3.450.0", still couldn't be recognized.
The phone itself doesn't seem to know that it's connected to the pc either. It doesn't do anything, just sits there. And there's no option to unmount the internal drive from the drop down menu.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

for some unknown reason, it works perfectly fine without me doing anything different now.

Are you using a third party launcher?
If so try switching back to TW first.
I've found that anytime I use an i9000 ROM I have a painfully slow USB connection relative to what I get with a Captivate ROM.
I tried a quick search but nothing came up for me. It's almost as if with i9000 it defaults to USB 1.0.
Wondering if I should try installing Kies drivers or soemthing.... I dunno... hoping somebody came up with a solution already...
Pretty important cause for those that flash often don't want to spend 8 hours transferring music back to the internal SD drive.

I think a have a similar problem. Each time I connect my Galaxy S on my computer it shows the message that my device can perform faster...as if my Galaxy is running with USB 1.0.
I've used to different cables, different USB ports...and nothing happens.
Using the same USB cable, with another device, it do not shows the same message so I'm thinking it might be a problem with my Galaxy S or with the USB drivers that I’m using.
I had been using KIES but has the same problem...tried to install the driver aside KIES and the same result...I did a little research and it seems that I’m the only one with this problem...

Before registering here I have tried my best to sort this myself but I really do need some expert advice now. Please!!
I have tried and tried to update the KIES software but no matter what my PC will not connect to the phone it just says 'connecting' and hangs on that
I've tried on an XP machine and a Windows 7 machine and neither work
I'm currently on software 2.1 and would like to update to 2.2
Are there known problems with connecting the phone to a PC?
I've even tried connecting it so the PC would just view it as an external hard drive but again it doesn't connect and the PC does not recognise the phone.
I can't transfer any music or videos to the phone at the moment obviously and that's what I'm hoping to achieve with some kind help off here. I'd also like flash player which I believe is part of the 2.2 update?

Firstly... this is a very well known issue with the kies software.
There are countless threads here about this issue with possible fixes for the problem.
I recommend that u search the forum for your solution and do some reading and you will find your answers.

I take it you have an external micro sd card in the phone? Mine wont connect without.
If you do, you should check whether the drivers are ok by connecting via USB. Goto settings, "Wireless and Network", select usb settings and click "ask on connection". Reconnect the usb and the phone should ask you what connection you want, click mass storage.
If that fails, probably a driver issue. Uninstall Kies and samsung drivers and reinstall the latest version of Kies (google Kies)

I personally find it's a dream to use if you're using the modded roms..
That does kinda void your warranty though
Just a few tips which entered my mind:
- older versions of Kies do not connect if you changed the launcher on your phone from touchwiz to something else (i.e. Launcherpro or Zeam)
- it's strange it doesn't even connect in storage mode. How are your usb settings (Settings, Wireless & Networks, USB Settings), is it set to Kies or "Ask". When set to Ask or Storage Mode, you still should pull down the notification bar when connecting to make a choice.
- does the pc bleep to indicate it at least senses a device attached? Have you tried different USB ports?

My Galaxy S is running on Darkys Rom v10.1 and its Dark Kernel. I never had problems with this but now I can't get a connection to my PC. When I plug it in it just loads the battery and my PC says that it can't detect the USB-gadget. There's not even a notification on my phone saying I have a connection to the PC.
I already re-installed Kies and the USB drivers a hundred times and even made a full factory reset on my phone but it's still not working.
Can anyone help?

it is for x64, there you can also find for x86, worked for me just fine.
these are the drivers I installed again and again and again.. they always worked but there's still the error
have you knocked or dropped it recently?
could be a loose connection to your phone micro usb port, I am in a very similar situation and I'm cracking mine open tonight to check the insides.
Also could be the cable if you're not getting any notifications on your pc of it connecting, would try different cables too.

Hello again everyone.
Now this will make people laugh but I have a Latin American I9000T that's still on the old eclair 2.1.
I want to update it for my friend but there is a problem getting windows to detect the phone through USB. I have read as much as possible about changing usb connection settings and tryin different cables but no matter what i try the computer just doesn't register that there's a phone connected. It won't show up any drives even though the phone itself shows that it is mounted and or connected via kies.
I do get ONE response on the computer when i dial *#7284# for PhoneUtil and select USB modem. Windows pops up with a yellow unknown USB. No drivers are installed for it though even though kies Samsung drivers are already installed and works perfectly fine when i plug in a good working GT-I9000 with gingerbread.
I have tried to clean the USB port on the phone with spray etc.
Anything else to try?
