[Q] Tether and Wifi Tether not working

Hi World,
I recently updated my phone to 2.2 with odin. I used just the CODE_I9000DXJPA file and did not use any PIT, PDA or CSC file. The phone works fine with data, it just wont tether to my laptop.
Im in Indonesia and have the GT-I9000HKAXSE version. I did the flash with the JPA file only because i could not find CSC and PDA files for my version anywhere :S.
Please help!
Cheers,
Xplice
Hi,
Can you be more specific on the error?
If you are using USB Tethering, make sure your PC have the correct Samsung drivers by installing the latest Kies.
For WiFi Tethering (Mobile AP), do you see the "Mobile AP activated" message on the notification bar? Did you enter the correct SSID & Password in your Laptop?
I also encounter problems with the built in USB/WiFi tethering feature, the internet disconnects intermittently. I am now using Wireless Tether for Root Users app that is available in the Android Market. Try it and see if it works.
btw you need to root your phone first..
Hi,
It is Rooted
There is no error - it just does not work. Data works fine on the phone but for Wifi tether, usb tether and bluetooth tether it says connected and looks fine but does not work.
I don't use kies because it sux
Cheers,
Immanuel

Maybe you want to try out some custom ROM? The one I am using now this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
I have no issue with tethering.
Just curious, how did you enable bluetooth tethering, I can't find such option in my SGS.
Hi !
i've the same problem.
I'm in france and the tethering doesn't work alone.
The trick is to enter, on your laptop, the right DNS of your provider.
The best is to create a batch file to add and remove the DNS config ;-)
Now you have just to find the DNS ^^

Hi,
Try sla92's suggestion if it will work for you, if you don't know any DNS, try www.OpenDNS.com.
Can you tether before updating your SGS to 2.2? If yes, it might be a bad flash.. try to hard reset. If still have problems, flash a new rom as suggested by xplice.
or update via Kies using Registry Hack http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628 this is what I did to update my SGS.
Yeah all tethering worked great on 2.1 :s..... Now none work!
Does anyone know where i can get the PIT, PDA or CSC files for my region (indonesia) ?? I can only find the Europe ones... My suspicion is it is a problem with that as the CSC file controls the radios??
For bluetooth teather you just have to connect via bluetooth to your pc and add as a trusted device and then your pc will see it as a modem, just make sure you give it the right APN for your providor.

Wifi stuck at "obtaining IP address" - Stock LPY

I am on rooted stock LPY. I noticed that whenever I try to connect to wifi it says connecting then stuck at obtaining ip address and then disconnected. I have tried more than one router and I am getting the same results. I have googled this and one solution is to have a static ip address. The problem is that this setting is no longer available in ICS. Any idea how to fix this without wiping (I am too afraid to wipe given all the fuss about it).

Did you flash the LPY Rom with or without full wipe? That might be the cause.
You can flash a new modem and see if it's fixed. I can't think of anything else...
Experiment with frequency band under advanced wifi settings.

When i was on ICS i had the same issue.
This is what made it work for me:
- remove network from device, disable wifi and turn off device
- turn off internet modem(if you have any) and router, wait at least 2 min.
- turn on modem and router
- turn on device, enable wifi and connect to network
Hope it works out for you

With wifi disabled, if you have root, go to /data/misc/dhcp/ and delete all 3 files there.
I had problems on LPY where wifi would connect but ip address wouldn't get assigned.
Deleting the 3 files in /data/misc/dhcp/ fixed it for me. No probs since
Re-flash with wifi off, make the sincronization with google on 3g and then turn on wi-fi connection

I gathered all my courage and flashed a pre rooted GBrom via pc Odin, no wipes, no cleaning, no nothing . once back on GB i only performed one hard reset and felt confident enough to flash CWM back on it. I would give you the link, but am on my phone right now and can't find it, but the rom is in Bodivas thread around here.
It worked out well for me, but as you probably know...no garantuees.
Btw, sorry to see your wifi still not working

Hmm. Those 3/4 files should get recreated if DHCP is working properly on your phone.
Perhaps you phone is missing stuff in /system/etc/dhcpcd/?
Another thing just popped into my mind - did you restore your Wifi Access point details via Titanium Backup? I think that may have been an issue for me too on LPY... don't restore is best.
Or just downgrade to GB, full wipe and flash LPF
Do you have soundhound or dolphin browser hd installed?

I'm on LPY too. When I'm at office I have no issues with wifi connection but when I'm back home I start to have issues. It shows connected and I get no error or disconnected messages what so ever. But device looses wifi connection short time after connected. I check wifi connection on laptop and there is no problem but on my Note even though it shows connected I have no connection. Turning wifi off/on fixes it sometimes but most if the time it doesn't.

Finally ... wifi working as it should

Just flashed / rooted ZSLPF ICS following Dr. Ketan's guide and now I have wifi again . Having read so many posts about this, it would appear that the wifi issue has something to do with the CF-Root kerenal. Thanks buddy

I just saw this post and thought I shoud help him even after two years passed.
Go to Settings >> Wireless and Networks >> Turn on WiFi
Long press on connected network >> Modify Network >> IP Settings>> Menu >> Static
Assign your IP address and leave other credentials as they are. Save settings and you are done.

WiFi problem

I was recently given a Galaxy Ace as I bricked my LG P920! When I connect it to my home Wifi, it works when for a few mins then puts the phone into a reboot loop and only stops when I disconnect the wifi. The phone seems to work fine at all other times including when on 3G. It's not the wifi as it works fine on the wife's HTC Incredible S. Phone has not been rooted. Does anyone have this issue or know how to resolve?
Thanks
I suggest rebooting into cwn and clear cache and then try again.

No luck with that, problem keeps re-occurring.
Flash Stock
Try Flashing Stock firmware with odin!
I guess you have stock.
There is a random wifi problem in stock which sometimes reboots the phone because the wifi driver breaks.
So try CyanogenMod and there wont be any problems!
Dont worry about rooting.
You wont brick your phone.
Only way to completely brick an Ace is to use Rom manager. So just dont use it!

Check for a software update on your phone. IT fixed The problem for me.
If that doesnt help set your wifi connection up with a static(?) Ip adres on your phone. Worked for me as well.
Sorry for my english
Good luck!

What version of android is installed? Best way to do an Official update is via Kies. If you get the same issue with kies as I have (Crashes on startup) use Odin or install a custom rom via CWM.
Also try changing the WiFi channel via your routers settings. (you never know, might work)

WiFi Not Connecting On Any Network

Recently my phone stopped connecting to all WiFi networks. When I turn WiFi on it says "obtaining IP address" and then instead of connecting says "saved". The phone is running stock ICS and is rooted. If you need anymore technical details I'd be happy to provide them
Here is what I have tired so far
-ensured airplane mode is off
-rebooting the phone
-pulling the battery
-resetting my router (i really believe this is a phone problem as it happens with my wifi at work as well)
-running scripts in the terminal
-ran the FXR Wifi Fix and rescue app
-set IP to static
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Uhh...
A reboot didn't fix it?
Is your bootloader locked... Maybe try a new kernel if that's an option...

Turns out the bootloader was unlocked. Just re-locked the bootloader, but still no WiFi. Do you recommend any kernels?
You're sure you haven't been playing with Roms and Kernels? If you're S-On and you start trying roms without flashing the boot.img file associated with the rom separately, you get similar wifi connectivty issues as you are describing.

Thanks for your reply. In the past, around 3-4 months ago I was heavily messing with ROMS (not kernels though). Now I am on stock ROM, I flashed the boot.img of the stock ROM before I flashed it and WiFi was working for 3-4 months. Just a couple of days ago it stopped working and I have no idea why.
Confirmed that phone won't connect to any WiFi network
Just drove down to McDonalds and tried to connect to their free WiFi. Same results, no connection. Any further help is appreciated!
I blame poor coding on HTC...
Unlock your bootloader and flash faux's kernel via fastboot and then the zip to get proper WiFi drivers...
