1. Welcome! Go to the Development section and check out the stock ROMs thread. Download an arabic ROM, download Odin on your computer (link in that thread), follow the steps and flash it. No root needed and it won't void your warranty.
It won't wipe your phone if it's a non-wipe ROM.
If you wan to root you can find a tutorial in the dev section. Rooting will not wipe your device.
Appart from that, remember to read A LOT before doing anything. That way you'll minimize the risk of messing things up

Thanx for the quick reply..
But how to know if its a non-wipe rom or not? ?!
And if its non wipe.. Will i have all the apps contacts msgs all the same? ?!
If it's a non-wipe it usually says so in this thread. If it's a non-wipe you won't lose anything (contacts, messages etc.).
But either way your contacts are stored on your Google account, so you can't lose them. But again, read and read some more before you decide to do anything.

Well, for one, (and this kinda answers and simplifies your backup question too), with root access, you can also install a very powerful and useful tool called CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery).
CWM is essentially a modified bootloader which you can use to bypass Samsung's recovery mode to perform more advanced tasks such as flashing custom firmware, ROM's, and other binaries, etc.
Another great thing about CWM is that you can use it to perform a comprehensive backup of your entire system. Essentially, it would be like taking a snapshot of your device as it is when you perform the backup, and save it away for later use. It does create some rather large backup files (mine usually hover around the 500MB range), but it does mean that if, for whatever reason, you seriously mess something up, you can just restore to that previous state. I usually perform a CWM backup on a weekly basis, and you can always export the file to some kind of external storage for safe keeping, whether it's your external SD card, USB, or on your computer; it's totally up to you.
If you've ever used Norton Ghost to make backups of your PC, it's kinda like that, but for Android (plus the other features I touched on earlier).
Enjoy!

Gotta do this while the device is powered off. Basically, from power-off, press those three buttons, release the power button once you see the initial logo while still holding the other two buttons, and it should boot up into recovery mode (or download mode, depending on the button combination)
and when you have root, you can install the CWM app and do it from there too
When your phone is rooted,u can flash any custom ROM which could increase your phone performance and batery life..
You can try flash any custom ROM and find the one that suits you..it is important to do a nandroid back up before flashing a ROM because if something went wrong, you can always go back to the previous state of your phone..
i'm using rocketrom and i just love what it does to my phone..playing with rooted phone is fun..
Thanks alot guys.. So i cant flash the new icecream sandwich "nexus release" unless i root my Note.. right? ??
if i rooted it then i can have it on my note.. Right ..??!

There is a custom rom of ics for galaxy note called CYANOGENMOD 9..u can find the tread on xda..
It is still got bugs which u cant use camera and bluetooth..Developers still wait for the leak from samsung to create a stable ics Rom..
If u want to try flahing cyanogenmod 9,make sure u make a nandroid backup and titanium backup..
Cant wait for ICS final release on galaxy note which will be much better than gingerbread..

Hello!
I bought few weeks ago Samsung Galaxy S and love it! But there is one disappointment, and its the lagging, as you all know.
Im so noob when it comes to the mobilephones etc. so I need You're help about rooting my SGS;
-First of all, I have FroYo installed and I red that RyanZA's z4root is the easiest way to root You're phone, is that right ?
-Secondly, should I somehow backup my current ROM, in case that I need to send my phone to service OR is my warranty fully gone if I start doing these things ?
-Thridly, I red that you cannot have eg. 'LagFix' IF you havent rooted your phone first ?
My mainly consern is that I lose my warranty, doing these, so is it possible to get your phone to "back to normal" somehow (backup etc.), why is that my concern, I just dont trust phones (My previous experiences)
So pls help me with these and pls remember to write it down like speaking to a child cos really im so noob with these thing!
Thank You so much for help !
-Niko
Rooting the phone and applying a lag fix is pretty straight forward using the method you outlined is fine just make sure you have 3 button recovery if you do then with common sense its pretty hard to get into trouble.
Im currently running stock jpa from samfirmware with cf root kernel (this provides root amongst other things) and oclf for lagging issues and all is running well.
As far as backing up rom i use rom manager as most others here do, you can always get stock firmware version from samfirmware just in case things go wrong.
Run the backup before you apply the lagfix.

Very much appreciate your comments guys and help! But now I have another question, how do I backup ? Is there any program in the market for that, or should I do it myself ? Is there anywhere instructions for that (instructions for noobs maybe ? )
Thank You again!

to back up apps use titanium backup and to make a complete system backup use rom manager. From memory you can install clockworkmod recovery within this app then its just a matter of clicking backup current rom...very easy.

So my noob TUT
Check if you have 3 Button Methode
1. Power off phone
2. Hold Volume Down and Home Button pressed while Power on (release it when u see the first pic at the screen)
3. when you see the recovery then go to the next 1... if not then follow this TUT [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698 After this you can go to the second 1. ]
1. Check your Firmware* and flash the right CF Kernel with Odin
2. Download Rom Manager
3. Install Clockworkmod recovery (in Rom Manager)
4. Boot into Clockworkmod Recovery
(Maybe you must press update via update.zip)
5. Navigat to Backup/Restore
6. Backup
7. Wait
Then Apply Lagfix.. Look maybe for Hardcore's Speedmod or Ya-OK Kernel
Hope it helps

Hello,
I am planing to install Darkys ROM but first of all I have some questions regarding a way to get my phone as it is now.
If I type *#1234# I get this information:
PDA: I9000XXJPO
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000DBTJP3
Build Info: 2010. 10
When I bought my SGS it was still 2.1 Eclair but last year I updated it via Kies to 2.2 Froyo. I could not use the 3 buttons so I had to use Odin and a Samsung fix for Canada or something like that. I am not sure but anyway the 3 buttons work now. After that I installed z4root and One Click Lag Fix. That were the only things I used.
Well now I want to install Darkys ROM but I have got some questions first.
How can I make a full 100% backup of my phone?
If something goes wrong with me flashing Darkys ROM I want to be able to restore my phone as it is now.
I have got Titanium Backup is it enough just to make a full backup with it?
After flashing to Darkys ROM can I just use Titanium Backup to get all of my Apps, sms, pictures, vids, settings and so on back?
After I flashed do the 3 buttons still work? Because I used a fix to get them to work and as far as I know wont flashing wipe my phone with the fix for the 3 buttons?
Well that is it for now but I am sure I have a lot more questions...
bump
no one willing to help and answer my questions?

Install a kernel that supports ClockworkMod Recovery and make a nandroid backup; that's a complete system backup.
Yeah, you can use titanium backup to backup + restore all your apps, settings, etc, but it won't be a literal image of the phone.
Flashing any ROM won't take away the 3 buttons. Typically flashing a ROM (sometimes WIPE version) wipes only your /system /data /dbdata /cache, etc folder. Doesn't touch the bootloader, meaning your 3 button download will always work.
I'm having the same PDA,PHONE, CSS and Build Info like you,,
but i can't fix my 3 combo buttons... tell me how u fix it? it's seem i can't
download the neccessary files in the xda thread to perform my 3 buttons fix...
Thanks
@seeARMS thank you for your reply. so basically I have to get another kernel and then I can make a backup. But wont that change my actual phones kernel to another and wouldnt that be problematic if I have to turn in my phone for repairs?
is there a guide out there for this doing this?
@imkr1 I am not 100% sure because I did it out of a whim. But as far as I remember I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
I am not sure if it still works but I guess the best solution would be if you just post your phones infos and ask in the thread if it works

1)Best way is Nandroid backup means goto CWM recovery and there select BACKUP and whole rom with all ur settings, apps apps data will be backed up on MEMORY CARD(sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/)
2)Just goto CWM do wipe data and factory reset, wipe cache
then goto advanced and wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats
then Select install zip from SD CARD and Start Flashing Zeus.zip that you downloaded and copied to SD CARD.
After Flashing Again do Wipe data and factory reset and Reboot your system
3)I never faced this cache memory low problem but yaa in new stock ROM v20o LG updated Low memory killer parameters so this will eliminate any lags..
I use android Booster app from play store and Set its Auto Optimisation ON so my phone Never get laggy and i use Stock Rooted v20_o btw..
Oh god its like not written for me to update or what :S !
tried unlockroot and superoneclick many times starts with killing ADB server then ends with FAILED TO GET SHELL ROOT and not rooted
any ideas ? sry for bothering
Hey...if you cant root, use smartflashtool to come back to 2.2 then root it, install CWM and install zeus
(Do erase cache, dalvik, factory default)
Btw the problem is not cache but your ram gets full quickly
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
thanks bro but when i got in smartflash tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803 says i got to flash to bk v10A 1st ?!
and if its a yes its also written erases everything on phone..how can i back up my stock rom then to get bk to warranty ( when i wnt ) if i cant use cwm? and how to back it up?!
sry its just confusing me .. thought its gonna be easier xD
- and about ram or cache..it doesnt really matter what is it to me but is there a solution for that if i face it in the new cust rom ? cuz its so irritating i have to clean it up like every hour
v10 is right. It's 2.2, which is rootable with superoneclick.
theaks30 said it already, after you've flashed v10/2.2 and rooted via superoneclick, you can install cwm and flash your favourite rom.
And if you want to restore the stock rom, simply flash the v10 with smartflashtool again and you've a clean non-rooted stock rom.
But if you're phone gets a hardware-error, and you can't turn it on, you logically can't flash back to the stock rom.
Hope, I could help you.
sry but this's not really helping
and im not a tech guy so if anyone please can answer with a clear detailed answer to help i'll really appreciate it
Now i have a stock rom froyo ( unable to get shell root ) and simply wants to upgrade with a custom rom like CM7 or Zues 6.2
1- Want to make sure to get backup of the stockrom with apps and data and everything
2-wanna solve the problem of ( Unable to get shell root )
Smartflash thread intro says IT ERASES EVERYTHING when i flash so is there a way to backup the rom before rooting or flashing or even with this smartflash that i dunno?
Really wishing a clear detailed answer before i get desperate with the new OB xD !
Hmm, okay.
So, which froyo version do you have?
2.2.2 Android Version
this's what i found in About Fone xD !
Yes I know.
But wicht firmware (v10a, v10c?)
sorry not following :d where can i find this ?
Im in egypt and same about the fone if its gonna make any help
Oh w8 i found it : V10H
Okay, I don't know the firmware names in egypt.
Maybe it's the old one. (like v10a in germany)
Then you can root with gingerbreak.
Google for it.
If not, you can use superoneclick, but you've to add these steps with cmd.
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/lg_p9..._optimus_black_root_methoden.html#post1626677
I know, it's german, but I think you understand what to do. If not, ask me, then I can translate the part.
Good luck!
Edit: If gingerbreak is not working, this should be much easier.

Hello,
AS the title says, I Bricked my Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Here is the brief story.
1. Rooted my phone successfully by following instructions from forum discussion - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282011
2. Flashed rom "cm_ace-ota-eng-.beta8" - Beta 8 for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 (16 Apr 2012) downloaded from website - http://galaxyics.com/releases/phone/2
3. Meantime installed CWM through Odin Multidownloade 4.38, followed instructions from website - http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-pro-b7510-to-jpkc4-2-2-2-firmware/
4. Once cm_ace-ota-eng-.beta8 is flashed, rebooted phone. Here where things went bad. Now, I cant boot to Android. Samsung log flashes and its stuck at BLANK Screen with sky blue color.
Not sure, whether its a soft brick or totally bricked my phone.
I can boot to CWM recovery menu. I even tried to flash different rom but in vain.
I tried "Android 4.0.3 based Custom ROM for Samsung Vibrant — Ice Cream Zenwich" for second time but no luck followed instructions from website - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-3-based-custom-rom-for-samsung-vibrant-ice-cream-zenwich/
Not sure, how do I fix this problem.
I searched on google for recovery options however, cant seem to figure out how that can be done. Request for your assistance.

from where can I get the stock rom ?
I searched google for stock rom and came across following article

is that ok to follow the instructions from there ?

Make surr you can boot INto dl mode using power-vol down-home combo.
To make cm beta 8 work: wipe system and data, and cache. Flash beta 8 then after inatalling zip, install it again without wiping anything. Then reboot.

good enough to get phone back to life
I will give that a try and post back how it goes...
Downloading official stock rom from sammobile.com

You can't just buy a mobile and next day flash what is a beta rom without at least spending a day or two reading the stickies on here and reading and understanding the complexities of flashing what is a rom which still says on the opening post for devs only. Some.people who have followed Maclaws rom from the start still experience problems when flashing a new beta. Hope you read enough to understand about flashing, rooting, backing up etc before you try again to install Ace's most awesome and ground-breaking rom. Take full advantage of what, as was previously stated, a very lucky escape.

Very true. I was really lucky !!!
Now, phone working perfectly fine with Android 4.0.4 (Kernal V 2.6.35.7-perf-CL945787)
However, noticed one glitch though. Camera is not working with this rom, when I tap on Camera, I get a message " Can't connect ot the camera ".
I havent rebooted my phone, since it recovered ( i mean post flashing ). Perhaps, a reboot would help.
If the camera doen't work, then I need to live with that, thinking at least phone is working condition

Guys,
Sorry for the trouble again...
I need one more help.
I have backed up my contacts using kies before flashing my mobile. However, when I connect my phone to my laptop using usb, kies doen't detect the phone. I beleive, thats because, kies doesnt recognise the new andriod kernel.
Is there any way to restore my backed up contacts other than using kies ? I have around 600-650 contacts.
Thanks for any inputs.
Maclaw's ics is aosp. kies wont detect any rom other than Samsung's stock rom.
The camera stull doesn't work with our ics, so just wait till next beta.
On your kies problem, kies only recognizes stock roms.
You should always keep your contacts on your google account!

I mean, an application which is capable of reading Kies bkp file and restore contacts or any tool which can read the Kies bkp file and allow me to imposrt contacts in csv format or at least some readable format ?
Perhaps, answer would be NO but still wondering....
For contacts you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882861&page=2 but I dont know if it really works... first time i flashed my ace I got the same problem and I finally give up (damn Kies!)
You should backup your contact on sd file (Contact-Export-Sd) before flashing, its the most easy way!
For camera there's no way, it doesnt't work on the rom yo've installed, it's clear on the site where you downloaded it (Bucktracker section: https://github.com/GalaxyICS/android/issues?sort=created&direction=desc&state=open).
Hope I help you.
...sorry for my english
I remembered I did that before. By converting the contact file made by kies but I forgot already. Sorry can't help ya there!
Galaxy ace X Miracle V3
Hey all. Had this phone for a while. All of a sudden after a routine poweroff (cuz I was flying), it refuses to boot up and is stuck on the flashing samsung text. Running the official ICS rom. No flashes/hacks/anything exciting ever done with this phone.
After a few browses at the topics here, I found out that I can access recovery mode (vol up + home + power). It shows the following message:
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : INV
Successfully applied multi- CSC
Can anyone help me out here?
First and foremost before you do anything flash a custom kernel which will stop the brick bug from happening:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Once that is done, do a data wipe in recovery mode. If it doesn't boot then you will have to reflash (a custom ROM or using download mode to flash an official ROM).

Many thanks for the reply. Just a few questions before I jump into it though...does the custom kernel do anything else besides safeguard from bricking? (I'm referring to not being able to access google services and the like)
Next - if I do a data wipe, doesnt that mean that all the data (pics, contacts, sms) will go? Would there be a way to preserve these?
Sorry I do realize these are really green questions...never had a problem with this phone before and never tried experiementing

The custom kernel will stop the brick bug from happening and it will give you a custom recovery, If you have a custom recovery then you can flash other custom ROMs. You won't be limited in any way whatsoever.

I think that if you do it on the stock recovery (the one you have now) then it will remove everything: 3rd party apps, pictures, contacts, smses, settings etc. If however you do it on philz then it will remove your installed apps, settings, smses, contacs, call logs etc. BUT it will not remove all the files on your sd card (pictures and other files).

No problem, better to be safe and sure than having a bricked phone
Also, I read where the smses and call logs are stored (but not the contacts):
mmssms.db (messages and mms data bases)
telephony.db (this one contains call logs)
They are located in:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
You could use ADB or something simpler (if you have that custom recovery I linked earlier) - aroma file manager:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
Then you can copy those files to your sd card.
Also, chances are your contacts are on google: https://www.google.com/contacts/
And also if you reflash and sign into your google account at startup then you may be able to restore your apps (but without the settings to them).
Let me know if you're unsure about anything.
The Custom kernel have a lot of useful tools besides safeguarding from bricking.. It wont interfere with accessing google services and all that..
If you do a factory reset, it will wipe you user account data ( i.e only contacts, sms and installed apps ) and it wont wipe your pics, songs etc.. When i first installed a custom Rom i imported all my contacts from sd card and when it asked me for a location to save contacts, i selected my google account. That way all my contacts are always synced and saved in google.. So whenever you flash a Rom and enter you phone, it will ask you google account to begin with and the contacts will be automatically synced to your phone!
If you are a starter and interested in Rooting and Flashing Custom Roms i would recommend reading Dr.Ketan's guide.
Dr.ketan's Rooting guide :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360. Try the ercommended method 1A.. It will install custom kernel and as well as root your phone!
Enjoy and Happy Flashing

On it...many thanks! The rooting though seems to have the effect of removing google play and other services (SNote for example). I read that its possible to get play/youtube/gmail back, but what about the other 3rd party apps?

That clarified a bit indeed! Unfortunately, my google contacts are filled with miscellaneous emails and no phone numbers...I should really get on top of making better backups.
Question #3: [EDIT] looks like the original ROM was DDLSC...trying for the same here.
Question #4: It seems one can run a backup directly from PhilZ. Shall I try that out before wiping everything into oblivion?

First of all, rotting doesn't remove or effect of removing google play.. S-Note, S planner and other samsung apps will work only if you are flashing a Touchwiz based Rom.. Those apps wont work in CM, PA and AOKP Roms cuz they need TW framework to work with!
If you are thinking of flashing of TW based Roms, i would recommend 2 Roms to take a look at..
X-Rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320871&nocache=1 ) This is the Rom, i am currently using.. It will give your phone a tablet UI, thus taking advantage of your Note's large real estate screen! .. Multi window, floating window and buttery smooth and lots of features!
You can also check out the Note 8 Apps ported to our galaxy note N7000, if you are interested.. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217662 )
Arya Mod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575767 ) This is also a great Rom and cool icons and themes!

First go to that rooting guide and root using the 1A method. It will give you philz kernel.. Then install one of the Rom Above! ( If you want a TW Roms that is )..
Then if after flashing a TW based Roms, flash this kernel to get a amazing and battery life ! It makes the ROM buttery smooth too ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2638337 )
Note that this rom only works with 4.1.2 JB Roms and Most TW Roms are 4.1.2 JB anyways!

Install this app to take nandroid backup without having to go into Recovery ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en )
Note that this requires root, which means it will only work after you have finished rooting!
Enjoy and Happy Flashing

To install stock Roms check this guide by Dr.ketan ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 )
NOTE:- Just make sure you select Normal method, when you open the Supersu and its asks you to update Supersu binaries..
So finally solved! Thanks heaps to CustomRomAddicts and XxPixX for the help!
Just for anyone else stuck in the same boat:
Problem: Phone won't boot, stuck at the flashing samsung logo.
Tried and didn't work: remove sim, remove memory card, different battery, on charge, off charge.
Solution:1) Installed Philz kernel (found the kernel I require by looking at the stock rom code...mine was DDLSC) on my external SD. You can find this out by looking at the stock roms downloads on Dr. Ketan's page and finding out where you got your phone from in the first place (assuming it wasn't parallel imported).
2) Put the external SD back in, go into recovery mode (vol up+home+power), backup whatever I require (which in my case was a full backup).
3) Factory reset. (Mine did not delete the pictures, songs etc. It did delete all contacts, sms, call logs, applications, settings and updates).
