Hi,
This is my first post here. sorry if its a lame one but ive spent weeks of frustration trying to root my fone but its just not happening.
people say i cant but then i find other places that have ways to do it then i spend days trying to do it (actully getting closer and closer) but then the end result is i have no rooted fone! Mainly because i cant complete the processes that there telling me to do. for example unlocking bootloader :/ WHAT A PAIN!!! and its still not done lol.
my phone details are....
Sony xperia Z1
Android Version (Now) 4.3 (Cuz i was told i was able to unlock bootloader on this version (Was i wrong!))
Build number: 14.2.A.0.290 (Same again,Been updated in my process of trying to root i think)
Dont no what else you guys need to help but them things come up often.
Please can someone just relive my stress and tell me if i can root or not, i would be very gratefull. if i can root then could someone also point me in the right direction to how to do this... simply step by step instructions (Pretending i have a new fone and a new laptop, needing to download EVERYTHING from fresh)
Dont see why the process cant be easy like iphones been jailbreaking them for years but there just rubbish fones!
thanks for any help in advance.

You can root your Xperia Z1. I don't see why you're struggling so much. You need to downgrade to .534 to root your phone.
Download this: http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49042627&postcount=9
This is how you root...
Yes, you can root your phone with 4.3, without Unlock Bootlader.
Follow the instruction on Page 2, Post #16 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588331&page=2

Do i have to unlock my bootloader for any features on a rooted device? I only really want to root to get rid of those horrid bloatware apps, not really sure what else you can do with a rooted device yet but i want to learn. Last time i rooted a device was in the HTC Desire Z days haha.
Ive spent hours trying to follow Sonys instructions to unlock bootloader but it doesnt work so im hoping i dont need to.

No. You don't have to. Unlock Bootlader is needed only to flash Custom Roms with Custom Kernels. With Locked Bootlader you still can flash Custom Roms with Stock kernels and get Root.

If the bloatware on your phone is the main reason then you can flash via Flastool a Unbranded FTF Android 4.3 like I did, clean and smooth.

Back again, still with no root or unlocked bootloader. Bootloader i can unlock but it wont let me because it says "Waiting for Device" all the time. ive followed the Sony guide to unlocking bootloader untill the bit it tells me to plug the device in fastboot mode. then it says the comp will want to install some drivers... point the computer to the Google File/USB_Driver,
1. my comp doesnt even ask me to install drivers when plugged in.
2. when i point the phone to that file through "Device Manager" it says there isnt any drivers there. im guessing this is the reason why im getting the "Waiting for device" problem.
Anymore ideas?

I have no idea, when I plug mine, windows always install the drivers and I am on Win 7 Ultimate.
This is more complicated that it should be and it's related to bootloader problems so I think this is the only one who can help you, the OP of this thread.

I think you should carefully read well all the tutorials because you getting confused.
If you do a Factory Reset you just reset your phone to how it was at the beginning and this will wipe all your data. (Apps, Data exc..)
Factory Reser have nothing to do with Bootloader or Root.
If you Unlock Bootlader, you will unlock permanently until you will not decide to re-lock it.
If you Root your phone you Root permanently. The only way to lose root is to flash a stock FTF not rooted.

Hi,
My device is currently S-Off. I don't have root anymore and I relocked my bootloader. I'd like to be able to remove the test device message but all the links I found requires to have root or to go back to S-On. I tried using HTC DEV to unlock my bootloader again to flash custom recovery and then to flash supersu.zip but it didn't unlock my bootloader. I also tried to just do a fastboot boot customrecovery.img and also didn't work. Any idea if with S-Off, bootloacker relocked, no root access, I can removed the HTC test device message?
thanks

Check out this thread on unlocking your bootloader without HTCDev. If you are able to do that, then you should be able to flash a custom recovery. You can use the Guru Bootloader Reset tool to remove the tampered sign and I think the test device will go away.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was referring to but I can't run that since I don't have root access. If there could be a temporary way of getting root access with a locked bootloader and s-off, that could probably work to use what's being said in your link
1) Which is the best recovery? C-Mod or TWRP or any other, i mean i want that to support maximum number of stable roms and that is widely used by developers. Can you suggest me a link?
AND
2) For any rooting procedure you first have to S-Off, then unlock the bootloader, root, then install a recovery and flash a ROM..........right?
AND
3) How to be S-Off and rooted and have Locked as a message on the bootloader?

if you're still looking for this, root access is available in custom recovery (so no need to mess with the ROM), and with s-off you can flashed a masked firmware using ruu mode:

I am facing a dilemma here.
I want to root my phone (probably using towelroot)
But sometime in the future I want to return it to the exactly unrooted state.
The problem is, for that,
I must unlock bootloader
Install CWM and backup my phone in case things go wrong
Maybe install a rom.
BUT.
If I root my phone, how will I go back to exactly the old stock state, because I am creating a backup 'After' rooting?
So If I restore using CWM, the bootloader remains unlocked and still rooted?
If i want to relock bootloader, I need root.
If I want to unroot I need an unlocked bootloader.
Im so confused. Please help.
That brings me to my qn. Any one click restore to stock?
Newbie, have mercy
Why will you unroot? (Or if you don't know exactly what it means: read, read, read and ask)
You can always go back if you flash KDZ file (unroot en relock bootloader -> see thread)

Hello,
So I made a thread earlier about my Verizon HTC One M7 on 5.0.2 asking if I was able to root it.
Y'all basically said I need to use Sunshine S-Off to unlock my bootloader so I can root. So I downloaded the Sunshine-latest.apk file and it says I need to "Pre-root" before I can use it. I'm confused. The app that's going to root my phone needs root to work? That doesn't make sense. I now understand that S-off is needed for roms, but I don't want roms. I just want root apps. I'm still confused on why S-off is necessary for root, and apparently root is needed for Sunshine S-off.
Anyways, does anyone know how I can pre-root (Temp root?) my phone so I can use Sunshine? And what do I do after I get S-off to root my phone? Is there anyway I can root without S-off? I just want root access no roms.
Thanks for all those willing to help. Sorry I sound like such a noob (I am)

Right because Verizon asked HTC to block their phones from being unlocked the normal way using htcdev.com website so they can have more control over their customers. With S-OFF you or sunshine can directly write to the PG1FS partition to unlock the bootloader without the need to use the unlock code generated by htcdev.com
So I downloaded the Sunshine-latest.apk file and it says I need to "Pre-root" before I can use it. I'm confused. The app that's going to root my phone needs root to work?

Sunshine need at least temp root to work. Achieve temp root, use sunshine to s-off and unlock, flash a custom recovery and then using your recovery you can root for good (permanent root).

Not really but that doesn't matter for now, you can read about what s-off really do later if you are interested. Flashing roms doesn't require s-off, its only requires and unlocked bootloader but yes since your phone is Verizon you need s-off if you want to flash a rom because its the only way to unlock the bootloader. On other variant of the M7, you can unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com so s-off is not needed to flash roms. I know its confusing...
