Hello guys, im using cm7 kang build at the moment and i want to try the stock based roms like modaco rom. I understand that i have to convert to ext3 by flashing a zip file called backtoext3, but there are no proper instructions of how to do this, so please correct me if im wrong
1. boot into recovery
2. wipe data
3. wipe cache
4. wipe dalvik cache
5. wipe battery stats
6. flash backtoext3.zip file in clockwork
7. flash rom in clockwork
This should be correct...
No need to wipe

Do you mean - before flashing CM9, you have to wipe all data?
Or do you mean - flashing back to Samsung rom and then all the way back to CM9?
For me, a clean install would be, download the CM9 .zip file, go to recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then flash the new rom.
(Be careful, as clean means all your user data as settings and apps get deleted)
Cheers

hello there!
i'm a new little fellah in the rom flashing world, so i'm a little afraid before doing anything, so here's the situation :
i have a galaxy mini, rooted, and cwm is perfectly installed.
i want to install this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085347
In the description it's written to wipe data AND cache after every action.
I just have personally 2 thing to install : the rom and the gapps, that's all (no patch).
So i have to wipe cache and data before flashing the rom of course, and so my question is : do i have to wipe data AND cache after installing the rom? and then install the gapps, and then wipe again?
So should i do :
1) wipe data and cache
2) install from zip the rom
3) wipe data and cache
4) install from zip the gapps
5) wipe data and cache
6) reboot
Is that good? or am i doing a mistake anywhere?
thank you for your help !
normally this works
wipe data ,cache and dalvik cache
format system ( if going from stock to cm7 or vice versa)
install rom
install gapps
wipe data , cache
reboot

you can also wipe battery states but it's only optional, you dont have to but no harm in doing so.
I have found this from here:
FIRST OF ALL DOWNLOAD THE ROM AND THE ADD-ONS PACKAGE.
1. Back Up all Your Important Files as the Rom is wipe-only.
2. Copy the rom to SD CARD and Boot to CWM revovery.
3. Click WIPE CACHE PARTITION -> wipe
4. Click Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik - Cache -> wipe
5. Click Mount Partition ->
a. Format /System -> yes
b. Format /Data -> yes
c. Format /Cache -> yes
6. Click Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> yes
7. Install the rom
Some ROMs need just wipe data/reset factory and wipe dalvik cache.
SO could someone tell what is needed to do and what those 5abc means and are they really "must to do"- things?

All to be sure, to not have any conflicts...
With TWRP Recovery, go to "WIPE" section and check "Dalvik", "System", "Data", "Cache" swipe OK button and all it's done in one step
You just have to Install your new Custom ROM !!!
To be sure of the answer you can ask pulak861 as I see these are the instructions of his rom installation xD don't worry I think they're all ok just to make sure you don't have any issues while flashing your new rom and testing it then, I followed all these steps yesterday to flash the velocity rom and nothing unusual happened, before that the only thing I used to do was a wipe data factory reset, and wipe cache partition too.

When installing an update (not a new version) of the custom rom you already have it's not completely necessary to do a full wipe/data cache, but if you have fully working back up, do it just to be sure everything works fine
There have been several threads about this in the past, but I couldn't find one which is actually up-to-date.
I have been flashing my N7000 for years now. I've been using several custom recovery menu's and ROMS and re-partitioned my internal storage as suggested here. I currently have the following installed on my phone:
NightOwl 20151030
PhilZ Touch 6.59.0
ClockworkMod v6.0.5.1 (as shown in PhilZ)
What I would like to do is perform a full, 100% wipe of my phone before re-flashing the same ROM I currently have installed, perhaps even update my recovery or whatnot in case my phone would benefit from it (suggestions are welcome).
The original instructions from the NightOwl thread mention the following when you want to manually update:
1. Copy Rom to your sdcard.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Flash the Rom (in current versions you dont need to reflash the gapps)
4. Wipe dalvik-cache and format the /cache partition (This will not delete your apps or data)
5. Reboot

As mentioned these steps will not remove your apps or data. I understand that a "factory reset" does. However, I still wonder if this (including a factory reset) will actually wipe my phone 100% clean before flashing a new ROM.
That would be the following options in recovery
Factory reset to wipe data and cache
Format system
And if you want to wipe internal memory then format sdcard0.
Be careful of where you have the zip file of rom to flash again.
In CWM, go to "Mounts and Storage" section and there you'll find options to wipe totally everything.
