Hi guys
I am trying hard to flash my phone with the latest stable Cyanogenmod (7.1)
But I am facing some issues..
Here is what has happened so far:
I have tried a couple of times now, but every time it just hangs on the blue LG startup logo..
Please explain this to me, as if I know nothing at all. (I feel this way)
So here is a list, of how I think I should do:
1: Reflash with Nvflash, so the phone actually becomes bootable
2: install Rom manager (It is not available in China) but I have an .apk So now I install File manager from market, first.
3: Root phone
4: startup
5: start Rom manager, run "flash clockwordmod recovery" select "LG/T-mobile G2X" (Is this the right one?)
6: Choose "reboot into recovery"
7: Choose Factory reset-> Wipe cache and install zip from SD (First CM7.1 then Gapps)
8: Reboot (This is where it hangs on the marvellous blue LG logo)
I think I might be doing something wrong regarding the Recovery (No. 5 or 6)
But please point out what I might be doing wrong..
Looking forward to yoyur assistance

You did it wrong by step 5 you have to choose lg optimus 2x and not lg g2x of t-mobile

Thanks tekingenc for a very fast reply.
I just do not have the option for the optimus 2X.. Is my clockword old?
I am in China and Clockworkmod has been blocked (Not commenting on that) on the market. So I am using an APK for installation, via File manager (Astro is also blocked)
Any clue as to where I might find a version that includes p990?
Which version of Rom manager do you have?
The latest is 5.0.0.6
Take a look at Rusty's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
Hi
I have 4.4.0.3
Try to download rom manager from here http://www.apktops.com/rom-manager-5-0-0-3.html

You don't need it, it's necessary only if you want to root the stock version

7.1 is too old, maybe you should try to flash the latest Temasek build, is pretty stable.

Thanks. I just want something really stable. As you've guessed I don't know a lot about these things. I just wanted something that was a bit more responsive than the stock, provided from LG (I can't believe hos slow it is) Which made my p990 feel as fast as my HTC Legend..
Its probably better to install a ROM via the CWM console instead of using ROM manager .. Specially if you have differently mapped sdcard mount partitions.. But then ROM manager isnt that bad

CyanogenMod is nothing more than a custom rom for your phone. You can change your rom after you've rooted your phone. A rom is more or less the software what runs on your phone.
You probably got your O2X fresh out of the box with a stock (crappy) LG rom on it. Well, my advise is to change your rom because sooner or later you'll find out that the stock rom is really bad.
You don't 'have to' change to CyanogenMod, because this is obviously your choice. There are many other custom roms in the dev section like MIUI, or improved stock roms. You just have to read the threads, look at the screenshots, read the reviews and make up your own mind.

Hi all
I am just getting a head of myself here but I am wondering if I can learn before I start flashing my LG O2X.
I am in Australia and I am wondering which firmware (full stock) is most preferred at the moment?
I read in the firmware sections and it seems as if the not all stock firmware are very stable (Some people are complaining that it sucks out of the juice badly).
so any suggestions (links will help heaps) is much appreciated.
any link to good tutorial to flash the firmware is also greatly appreciated.
Thanks
sorry for the newbie questions

Cheers guys!
I am still confused with all this term of base band and firmware used for LG o2x.
On my Samsung if i want to update my stock firmware i just need to go to samfirware download the latest one . Open ODIN as the flashing application, put the downloaded firmware package and press start.
Is this the same process in LG?
Do i need to root first? Where can I download the latest firmware package for LG?
Thanks again guys

Hello!
This depends...
If you only want the latest firmware provided by LG - just use the LG Update tool, follow its instructions and click start - wait a few minutes and voila.
Only working with an unbranded phone of course - in case of a branded phone you might have to wait for the OTA from your provider.
But you might have to wait at least another 6 Month for the next update from LG - last Update by LG(in Nov.) was to Android 2.3.4 and still has some bugs - ICS(Android 4.0) is in the making but...
If you want root, a custom rom(I would say CM7 is a lot better than stock rom - my opinion) with all the latest updates(i.e. Android 2.3.7 may be an ICS-build for X-mas ) and/or an OC/UV kernel it is a little more complicated.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
So... it sounds like the CM7 has won lots of hearts.
If I want to update mine (stock unbranded), which tutorial should I use?
since I am completely new to LG, any step by step (from the beginning) tutorial will help greatly.
I am after total stability and good battery - I am only using camera/video recording, playing videos, musics, skype/fring/viber and also some small games like angry birds etc.. good GPS lock is a bonus.
So any recommendation is greatly appreciated
Thank you

Frist things First - backup all you date before you start because the phone RAM/ROM will be wiped!
If your phone comes with Froyo (Android 2.2.2) you could go right ahead and start after the ***-line
...if your phone comes already with GB (Android 2.3.4 – look under setting on the about page!) you need to smartflash a CM7-compatible baseband (i.e. 0725 for Froyo or 0823 as I use it).
Guide to flash baseband – only needed if your phone some with GB(Android 2.3.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
A German guide with downloadlinks…
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/lg_op...-lg_optimus_speed_p990_aktuelle_baseband.html
If you try the newest baseband on this page (0823 – 23.08.11) you must flash all 4 files in descending order of filesize – the others are single files which are easier to use.
***************************************************************************
The easiest way would be to root the phone with SuperOneClick.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/superoneclick-updated-to-2-2-now-features-zergrush-exploit/
…and then use Clockworkmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745) or Rom Manager to flash the latest KANG, since there aren’t any up to date Nightly’s because the CM7-build bot server is broken.
A Guide is in the Wiki pages for the LG P990…
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_ROM_Manager
You could use either one of these KANGs…
Rusty:
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/gigglebread/p990/
temasek:
http://www.mediafire.com/temasek
koboltzz:
http://www.4shared.com/folder/9Y9RYzQA/_online.html
Don’t forget to flash the latest gapps for GB 2.3.7 (right now AFAIK version from14th Dez.)– you can find them on temaseks-mediafire account.
Just place KANG-Files and Gapps on your SD card before you enter boot recovery.
At the end you need GetRIL or LG RIL versions from the market to update you RIL because the preinstalled baseband of you new phone is almost probably 0725 and CM7 comes always with 0218 – just download GET RIL and hit the install button…
Now you should be good to go.
If you are even more adventurers you could look into the ironkrnL for more performance/powersaving – see my sig. and/or look in the ironkrnL-Thread at xda and flash an ironkrnL after the gapps.

So “only” about everything one could do with a Smartphone…
Latest ironkrnL-builds with 00 or 32 ramhack should do it(stability and good battery) - but you might need to set the ring delay between 3000-4000 in the build.prop found in /system (you need a root-capable filemanager/editor i.e. ES Datei Explorer (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop or Rom Tool from the market). I had a problem with the preset delay of 225.
Hope that helped...
So every post or site i find thru google, including the main post on here, that tells you how to do it, and gives you the zip with all the files in it that oyu need, the link to download that zip no longer works, i've tried so many different links, all of them thru multiupload and it always errors. So can someone help me find a working link, or just tell me everything that is in the zip so i can download it individually ! The help would be much appreciated !
well after lots of frustration i finally found the right files and my phone is rooted. I installed Busybox (super user was auto-instsalled when rooted) and i put CWM on there. SO now that i have clockworkrecovery, how exactly do you boot into recovery mode on the LG ? I kno how to do it with the droid x and droid 2 global, but this is my first non-Motorola android phone.
apparently, when i was in CLockworkMod, i selected the downlaod rom option so i could see what roms where there, and it says I need to install clockworkreocvery first (thought it was already installed) and so i click install, but the list of phones that pops up does not have my phone on it, the only LG phone it has is the Esteem. So how do i get ClockWorkRecovery to install and work ?

What you are using is an app called ROM Manager and you cannot install Clockworkmod Recovery from that app. No features on that app are compatible with the Revolution.
You need to go to this thread to download and install Clockworkmod Recovery. Just follow the instructions in this post and it will get you Clockworkmod Recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348557
yea i already had it installed, ClockWorkMod just seems to think it isn't, but if i click the reboot into recovery option from within ClockWorkMod, it does indeed boot into ClockWorkReocvery just fine. But I wasn't aware that clockworkmod didn't work for LG Revolution. Why is that ? I loved using it when I had my Droid X. They should fix that !
and so where can i find the ROMs for the LG Revolution ? I would also like to find some themes and what not.

The other ROMs listed on theunlockr.com are most likely Froyo builds. There are only 2 Gingerbread builds. Just flash the kernel, then you can use an app like SetCPU or CPUtuner or ROM Toolbox Pro (recommended) to adjust the kernel settings.

you got a tab with ics installed???? im guessing you bought it used and someone installed one of the custom roms...if you got it new with ICS this would be quite something.
camera so far doesn't work in any ics rom. if you want the camera you gotta flash honeycomb again.
has for youtube HW videos not working im guessing the custom rom istalled is an old version. the newer ones work fine with youtube. i would flash the newest version of soup or cm9 if i were you.
lol yes its used as you can prob guess i'am abit new to tabs its my 1st one! so you suggest returning to stock fireware not starting a fresh?

its your decision. if you need the camera honeycomb is your only option at the moment. (stock/overcome/ganbarou)
if not i would definately advise you to use ICS. check the developement thread and chose one of the newer ICS versions. (soup/cm9)

i would advise you to read the great guide by nirogu:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
you download the zip. copy it to your tab. then reboot into recovery (which im guessing is installed)
then do a full factory reset / wipe (warning this will delete your apps but not your data like photos/music etc)
then select flash .zip and chose the zip file containing the rom. let it install and you are done.
but READ THE GUIDE! you will learn a lot and a lot of question you have will be answered!!

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread

if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want

I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
Hello guys,
I am brand new here,as after 3 years of owning a X8 i decided to jump to other ROM,because i was bored of the simple design of his menu and i was so frustrated to stay back with android market when my friends had messenger for facebook e.g.,i had to refresh again and again my opera..and much more apps and games i would like to play. So,i decided to start searching for new ROMs,and i found MIUI,but i wasnt able to find a stable version to dl for my phone. Then i found JB Mini Project,I succeeded on installing it on X8 but there is one thing that wont work in every version of JB i have tried!THE WI-FI!It is really frustrating for me!I am so begginner to those things, but i understand that its not only me that will have this problem and that developers might be working on it right now(I am 3D designer and i know about beta versions of things, even I have to release again and again my creation because of a bug),but i really hope someone had this problem too and found a fix on it..I tried a fix i found in forums with Titanium Backup, but nothing...
Anyone knows anything..just help me out with this.:crying:
Thanks in advance guys!:cyclops:

Patience my friend x)
What wifi problem do you have? Unable to detect Adhoc connection?
Have You tried this Kernel + Rom ? (All JB rom is unable to scan adhoc wifi. Except if you make changes to the source and compile it yourself)
If you want to surf the internet but with not using wifi and using a cable, This is a Post for you.
use back stock ROM (just kidding

Ok the problem is that i try to turn it on but it wont, the toggle bar just moves to be enabled, but it never gets enabled! It just goes back to off possition..With a few words,i cant enable Wi-Fi..So..as i said my friend,i am newbie here,so please try to explain me what i should do with those rom and kernel you send..should i go back to stock rom, reflash this kernel and install this rom?Is this the JB mini project too or something similar and stable without bugs?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe the rom + kernel combination is wrong or the rom is just being buggy.
I just personally liked nAa's work because he release a stable version of every product.
If you want to change into the recommended rom that I just told you;
1. Flash the latest kernel (06)
2. Follow instruction on the kernel post. (/system wipe at recovery before flashing a rom & etc)
3. Flash the rom. Followed by the GAPPS
4. As it said, this is my recommendation steps. I do not guarantee your satisfactory

Replied. It because I forgot to mention that 06 has a little bit changes that will make normal jb rom that is not released pior to the kernel release data will not boot
