I've got a very strange issue with my note's screen, which just occured when I was on a call.
As soon I removed the phone from my ear, instead of turning back to the screen, it kept black and (mostly white) pixels appeared on the screen. However the phone itself was still responding to commands.
Restarting has resolved the issue for the time being and I just wondered whether this is a software issue (using CheckROM) or if it's a hardware one?
---------------------
Update
The issue occurred again. I've posted some photos in my latest post
Had a Problem like that appear randomly to me too, it didnt happen to me again though and i was using stock rom too, but if this problem is continuing then respond on the checkrom thread and explain the problem there. As u have a note, try making a screen shot if it happens again with your s pen, if the screen shot looks normal then its your display having issues, if the black screen with the white pixels appear on the screen shot, then i guess its the roms fault
Issue just occurred again!
This time it happened after installing Darky Note ROM
I took a screenshot and it looked absolutely fine.
I've attached some photos of the phone when the issued occured, notice how the screen gets brighter.
Could this be an issue with the display driver in the ROM, as if it was a hardware fault, shouldn't the screen be like that permanently?
it is definitely software.. darkyrom is copy of check rom

I've cleared the data and cache in Recovery and reflashed the file, yet the same issue keeps occurring.
It seems to be happening everytime my phone goes to 'sleep'
is it also happens on stock rom or any other roms if not then its because of rom
Hi there, I think it's a problem related to the kernel, not because the rom itself.
I had that problem, related into another thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494555
solved by flashing another rom at first, but when changing the rom, the problem came back.
Today I just downloaded another kernel and that solves the problem.

What a relief it's not hardware related
btw. What Kernel are you now using?

I recently noticed that when the screen turns off by itself after being idle, there is a green flicker on the screen the very moment that the screen turns off.
The fact that this doesn't happen when I manually turn off the screen suggests that this might be a software problem but I'm not sure about that.
Does this indicate a bigger problem? Should I take it back to Tmobile? I think my 30 days is about up this week and I didn't get the insurance. I would gladly try to exchange it for a new one tomorrow if we didn't have this huge blizzard right now.
Anyone else experiencing this? All you have to do to check is turn on the phone to the lock screen and wait for it to dim then wait for it to shut off. My screen turns bright green right as it shuts off.
Thanks.
I just checked mine, and it doesnt seem to have this issue ...
It's not a big thing though, but you might wanna go and change it with a new one.
You just need to turn off the phone and it won't happend after that

I discovered that restarting the phone makes the problem disappear but only for a little while. After a day or two it comes back.
I'm assuming that by "restarted" you don't mean a factory reset. Am I right?

I discovered something interesting ... Today i replaced my HD7 with a new one because of an issue ...
Then i had this green flickering problem. It happenned while i was using the shipped rom (1.23). I upgraded the ROM to 1.57 and the issue seems to be gone ... at least for now.
Can you check this? what rom version are you using?
Just soft reset the phone
I'm running 1.20 from t-mobile and you said that 1.54 it's compatible with t-mobile
I'm new to the forums so i don't know about the rom version but the phone says bootloader version 1.20.2250.0.

ok, so i can confirm that the issue is because of your rom version (1.20), since i didnt have this issue again (after the rom update) until now.
but since there are no rom updates for tmobile yet, you gonna have to wait a bit longer.
Just dont worry about this issue, its not a hardware problem.
I have tmobile HD7 and I also so mine doing that a few times. Recently I haven't seen it again, I donĀ“t know if its because I reduced the off screen time.
Hopefully it is purely a software issue.
Just to share my experience, I also notice the green flicker, but only around 1 of 10 times. So don't get too excited when do you don't see one. Problem doesn't resolve after a hard reset either. I understand there's a wp7 update to be released later this month? Hopefully that'll help.
Just a question, these rom updates, are they official and released by Tmobile or whichever carrier you're with? I purchased mine outright online, and so don't have that option.
I have noticed this intermittent issue occur when applying a chosen wallpaper for the lock screen through settings or album but the strange thing is when I re-apply my chosen wallpaper the issue is gone no green screen flicker on screen timeout
I could be wrong but there seems to be a bug when the OS applies the wallpaper, on occasions it does not do it correctly hence the green screen!
I hope the upcoming wp7 update fixes this issue!
Hi, my SGS is working fine all the while. But sometimes after i unplug the power adapter upon fully charge, the screen keeps blinking in the way like loading home(loading icons)->black screen->loading honme-> black screen->.....
it repeats for very a long time, even if i manually screen off then unlock the screen, the blinking problem still repeating. Until i reboot the device, it works fine again... Happened once in the middle of playing game, it suddenly 'jump' to home screen and the blinking problem begin
Wonder if this related to system crash and cause home screen keeps loading on and off or hardware problem... did anyone experience this?
I've never heard of this before. To diagnose whether it's a hardware problem, your only bet would probably be to flash a clean firmware. Maybe someone will have heard of this though.

thx mate for suggestion seems like its only me having this problem, so far has been flashed 2 custom roms, and problem persists, i think need to flash it back to old GB stock rom to compare it.. sadly warranty period has expired, hope its not related anything with hardware issue..

Try a stock firmware, that should tell you whether or not it's a hardware issue. If it isn't, it's probably kernel related. Hopefully you can figure it out!
i have got the same problem too.. =(( how to fixed it.. the screen keep blinking...
Flash stock firmware . Then if its fixed pls report here.

I've flashed from 2.1 to 2.3.6 and still it's blinking
Does anyone know how to fix it?
same issue
hi,
i have the same issue as well with 2.3.6, BaseBand version I9000XXJVU.
It is not a stock rom and it started appearing just a few days ago. It happens when i plug to charge it and after unplugging it. I have not noticed when it stops.
A friend of mine has the same issue, but with 2.3.4 stock firmware, so i think it is not firmware related.
Any new info on this? what could i provide for further troubleshooting
Main issue is of course that it drains the battery quite much and also allows you to mistakenly unlock the phone when the screen is on, so i was forced to put patter or PIN lock.
Cheers...

If you have ChatOn app try to uninstall it. Did work for me. (I my case the issue appeared when the internet was accessed via any browser. Same blinking pattern though)
Hi all,
i recently installed darky rom 10.4 from darky rom 10.2 RE and have been encountering a few problems.
I own a sammy sgs i1900, and was experiening really bad freezing problems on 10.2 RE, where it would freeze when trying to load any app, and had to remove battery.
anyway have just flashed to 10.4 with no issues. now i have a new problem.
i am experiencing totally random reboots, well not quite random, its usually on the screen lock screen. i can replicate it when i have my ear phones plugged in listening to music, let the screen go into lock, then try to unlock it again, it will be unresponsive to touch, and just reboot.
Also this happens when im charging off usb to my computer. ill be sitting there watching tv or something, then i hear the voodoo bootup.
i have tried clearing the davlik cache in recovery mode, disabling auto rotation, installing a market launcher (go launcher) to no avail.
i did a few google searches, and searched these forums and found nothing definitive
i apologise if this has been asked before. any help would be appreciated
If these problems dont come from the Rom (i mean if they're not known issue) then i think the best would be to make a clean install.
Restart from the beginning (and make at least factory reset or flash with ODIN)
i know its a pain in the *** but it helps.
Dont forget to backup all ur data and apps.
Try next custom rom and see if any thing like that happens.
I had installed the latest darky rom, after wiping everything, and going back to stock......
there was a white horizontal line covering 1mm of the top of the screen...dunno why it is happening with this rom only...rest work perfecly fine....
Maybe darky rom has a few bugs...need not worry, there are plenty of roms to choose from....try each for a couple of days....after all, its the most addictive thing these days....

The white line is a battery indicator....it's meant to be there. You can turn it off in settings.
I have samsung galaxy tab p1000, india.
I am experiencing a problem with touch screen.
Once it starts working, it works perfectly fine with no glitches or any problem but once it goes to sleep mode, it may or may not recover from the sleep mode. When I press the power button, the screen comes but i m not able to unlock it or used.
Initially this problem used to occur rarely but now it is very rare to get my touch working.
I have tried hard reset / soft reset / changing the firmware (approx 20 times) but m not able to make the touchscreen working reliably.
Have also flashed miui ICS, aokp , firmware from samfirmware , tsar300, but no use.
As far as i appreciate this is a software glitch as the touch screen are not able to load everytime the tab wakes up. So, if some body could correct this problem or suggest a solution.... it would mean a lot ..
continue
I was just working out things. When i flashed stock firmware ddjm2, i had a comparatively stable system and improved touch response, although the frequency has reduced but the problem still exists. Any help would be apperciated, i am really frustrated,
thanx in advance
It may be a kernel issue. Have you tried Overcome's kernel/ROM?
tried overcome kernel also, no use.....
It sounds like a software/firmware problem, but if you're still having issues on stock kernel & ROM, it may be a hardware issue...I've never had any issues with touch on my tab...

thanx bigz1981, one more thing discovered today.
once i flashed fresh froyo 2.2, it works fine but when i connect it to internet, something is updated which results in touchscreen showing above abnormal behaviour. This time after installing the firmware, I switched off the network, lets see if this solves the problem. Nyways thanx for the advice.
Also, i now remember that previously I updated my "tsp update" by dialing that *#____#* number, Which had failed. All this may be result of that. Can you throw some light on TSP,
1. is it touch screen ******,
2. whats wrong in updating it.
3. Was it trying to update through internet, since I was not flashing anything at that time.
4. Is there anything known as touch screen firmware , from where can i update it.
Thanx dear, for all the effort putin by you.....
I also request some senior administrator of the forum to show some way in this darkness...
from the developers, i wanna know, like we have device drivers in case of computers ,
1. we must be having some drivers for thetouch screen ,???.
2. Can this driver be loaded everytime the tab wakes up from sleep.
3. Can we shift loading of this touch screen driver higher in the booting sequence.
I am not a android nerd, but i know some basics of windows. Please guide the correct way. Thanxxxx
Just another input for processing, around 8hrs earlier i had again flashed my tab with ddjm2 foryo2.2, and disconnected from internet. The tab worked fine. I operated it for around 40 times waking up from sleep. It worked perfectly except 4-5 times. I am not able to understand,, what is there that is spoiling the firmware, once it starts updating through internet.
Hello .....
i came up to the forum ....with some expectations .... . ....
moderators , administrators pl listen,....
I saw a similar thread, but try to download ILITEK Touch Utility from the Play Store & see if this helps with your issue.
Dear,
I have the same issue!! very odd. I was a long time without using my tab and then I found out this issue few weeks ago. I've installed 2 applications (angry birds space and juice defender) right before the issue, no new rom updates (I'm still using the euro rom update on my t-mobile tab done 2y ago), however not sure if any automatic update has been performed on the apps. After deleting these 2 apps, issue still persists.
Let me know if someone found a solution.
B. Regards,
Marcel

Hey guys,
I bought an HTC One about 15 days ago. Within 2-3 days of using it, I started getting problems with the display screen. I suppose this problem was seen by few people who owned the HTC One X but I couldnt find any useful solutions in those formums hence im posting here.
This is what happens:
1. Whenever I receive a call, the screen goes black and doesnot turn on until I hang up the call. This effectively makes the device useless as a phone, as I can't see who is calling and also during call I cannot access the screen.
2. Sometimes, there is a delay with the power button. When I press the power button, the touchscreen becomes responsive but the display doesn't turn on.
The problem is, if I factory reset the device, it starts working perfectly again!! Again after about 2 days it starts the same problems.
So I thought it was a software issue and so, I got s-off and installed the GPE Rom on the device. 7 days passed, no problems. On the 8th day, the same problem occured again. And as earlier, factory resetting solved the problem.
Is this a software issue, hardware issue or something else I dont know about?
I have taken a video of the device malfunctioning, but I don't know if I can post it as an attachment.
Thanks in advance!

upload it on youtube and post the link.
And something else. Make a factory reset again and then don't install any apps. Does the error also occure?
Im new to XDA forums and hence the site does not allow me to post URLS. However I have uploaded the video to youtube.
If you put 'HTC One screen problem Aniruddha Joshi ' in the youtube search box, you will find my video.
Im sorry I couldnt think of any other way
I did not install anything out of the ordinary. Just updated the existing google apps and installed facebook, twitter and whatsapp! No crazy apks or unknown apps.
Also, once I factory reset the phone, it starts working perfectly and there is no way to know the time after which it starts giving problems again. Once it was 3 hours, once it was a week.
So I don't have any way to check if some app is causing the problems.

after seeing your video, I am even more confused. I really don't know what could cause this problem. But the fact, that I didn't have this issue and almost no other person too, makes me think about a hardware defect. But the randomness and that it only occures after several days don't support this theory. So the only thing we can do about his is basic troubleshooting.
- 1) Try to flash Cyanogenmod and try this mod for several days
- 2) Try another Rom, for example: Omni Rom
- 3) Try to use a different Kernel for GPE stock.
- 4) Use a RUU that matches for you
Sorry, I don't have any other ideas left! But after this troubleshooting we may get new information or gain some knowledge that allows us to determine the cause of this error more exactly!

The original device shipped with sense Rom. I flashed GPE to check if it was a software fault. But no luck. It gave the same problem although significantly later(about a week after I flashed it).
One more thing, I hope this gives some more information..
One time, I had rooted the device and installed a custom recovery. The phone was then working perfectly for about 4-5 days. and then later when I went ahead and unrooted the device, it immediately started giving problems. So I rooted it again hoping that the problem will go away, but no luck...the problem persisted. So, I had no option than to factory reset again, at which point it started working perfectly again.
This is all so bizarre, I have never seen something like this happen
This is just a theory, but is it possible that there is a problem with the hardware which gets triggered only on certain conditions, like some interrupt, or flag or something like that?
So until those conditions are not met, the device runs perfectly, and when they are, it starts giving issues.
Thats all i can think of as the reason.
well its clearly something youre installing if it is occuring after a few days, a root app which controls your sensor or brightness probably, do you have apps of that nature?

No I rooted the device but did not install any root apps...i unrooted the device to install the GPE Rom(not necessary i know, but it seemed like a proper way) and found that it started giving problems immediately. Can non-root regular apps also cause such problems? I had installed only a limited number of apps anyway, updated the pre installed apps, facebook, twitter, whatsapp, some games..thats it..nothing wierd..
Might be a Screen-Off max. frequency issue. Like the phone gets only 500Mhz in sleep mode at maximum. Which is to low for an incoming call. Could you install a app like Android Tuner or Trickster Mod to check your Screen-Off Max frequency. If it`s that low, set it to ~1000Mhz.

That is very stange indeed. As I don't know any other causes for this error than:
Underclocked CPU or/and GPU on screen off
Root application that controls the brightness
Hardware issue(But what would cause this???)
I can only advice you:
Since you are S OFF, take a RUU, and follow this guide and ****ing set back your device back to stock! Don't root it! Don't use custom kernels. Don't install any strange apps that may control your display brightness. SERIOUSLY! Don't install an app that controls brighness even if it works on a friends phone! Just don't!
And if you still get this issue: It is a hardware issue! If you followed step by step the instruction and if you did everything I told you to do, it HAS to be a hardware issue! The fact that the error didn't appear on GPE that fast is caused by the lower performance requierement by GPE! So I seriously have doubt that this issue is caused by a hardware defect. But it isn't impossible for sure. I just have the impression that you changed some system files and you didn't know what you were doing. This is NOT against you, but it seems to be a reasonable possibility because a factory doens't reset the /system partiton.
P.S.
I'd be very kind if you hit the thanks button since we, the community, are really trying to help you.

I will definitely follow your guide and try to troubleshoot the problem. I hope its not some hardware defect and I dont have to send the device to HTC. I've heard those guys are poor at customer service
Thanks a lot, you've been a great help!
Btw, I was trying to find that Thanks button since the first day, I just couldn't figure out where it was. I just did.

Thanks ! That's awesome and gives so much motivation! If you find out that you have a hardware defect and that you have to send it to HTC, I'll give you some information how to deal with those guys that you get your warranty.
