Hi, I want to root my phone with this detail
Build number : Froyo.xfjp7
please help me
change your kernel with speedmood froyo, galaxian kernel or other.
please search at i9000 android development section.
you will find there
Easiest root is cf-root. Closest to stock with root priveleges. Read cf-root thread to see which version to download.

I don't know which file should i download , please tell me the cf-root file name.
If you just want root to flash a rom you can load any of the froyo ones if you want to use it with your stock rom then you should a get the right one. Best is to read the thread. It seems fairly daunting as it seems like a lot but is quite simple if you read it.
Sorry I can't be more help but I would need to reread the thread to figure it out. .

Sorry dude. Start reading the stickies. Get used to the idea that you need to figure out the simple things by actually reading stuff. After some personal input, people are of course prepared to answer any questions you have might have.

First off, this thread is in the wrong section. This is not development related.
Second, since its been asked anyway, you could start off by searching and reading stickes as suggested by androidsjonnie
And my suggestion is to decide on a custom ROM to use and follow the install instructions provided for that ROM. AFAIK, by default samsung rom's, cannot be flashed using clockwork recovery. you will have to rely on odin for them.
And if you just need clockwork recovery, you start by downloading ROM Manager.
**** Topic name !
Read Stickys and learn to use the Search Function !
don't be hard on the iPhone user! we all know how they are..
If you've read the info on ClockWork recovery.. It needs a compatible Kernel to work.. so checkout the kernels at the dev't section..

There are benefits to rooting.
If you follow those directions, you will have a fully functional phone.
As far as custom roms, i have used Doc's rom kitchen. That's about it. I can recommend that to you.

I had a lot of problems at first too.
The first step you need to do root it with super one click root.
Do a search in the forums. There are several tutorials that explain how to use it. It's really simple.
Using that programs getting the phone to root was easy. The problem I had was the flashing part and getting Odin to work for the first time to install clock work recovery.
Do you mind providing a link? I really need to know the step-by-step procedure and see the reliabilty.

1) download the latest 2.3.6 JW4 firmware (for GT-I9000) from sammobile.com. Also download ODIN and flashing guide.
2) For CF-root , following the instruction on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108.
If you don't want to upgrade to 2.36 then just follow link in the second step . That should have the instructions and the download link for your GB rom. Ensure that you pick the right tar file corresponding to your firmware version.
I am sorry but i am a little dumb and slow -.- I not quite get thr threadnposted by Chainfire, in which the link you provided. I am using a gingerbread 2.3.3 . So what am I supposed to do? Cos they say smth like CF-root Gingerbread (2.4 XXjvk or newer) . What does this actually means? And after that i couldn't get the whole chunk.

Update on advice
Hi thanks for posting advice.
I've managed to unlock the phone by using a combination of
Rooting it with Unlock Root via pc
That gave me Superuser (upgraded to pro for £2)
BusyBox Free, Titanium backup Free needed also
Then I was able to use Galaxy S Unlock to save files to sdcard and unlock to any network.:victory:
Now does this mean I'm rooted and don't have to follow all the steps that the link above advices
no need if already got busybox installed

Thanks for comments, can I ask now its rooted do I need to install anything else to allow me to change the Rom's such as newer official ones or once others are raving about.
Thanks.
updating or changing ROM was easy method but deadly also, wrong move will come to brick fone. if u really hav thought it well, juz follow any instruction on xda regarding i9000 after confirming ur device version, backed up baseband, build number n etc involve.
n now u ll need cwm for flashing. find cwm to gain access to recovery n thats where u gonna flash ur custom ROM, but read a lot before doing it as here in Q & A section, many success, also failure posted here, so be sure to read first mate

Congratulations on accomplishing your unlock. Now you might be helped with a good, rich toolbox and clear guides
I'm referring you to some wonderful threads I've come across during similar quests of my own.
(It's all there; but asking the right questions and not seeing the wood for the trees will always remain tricky )
So here are my top three suggestions for your toolbox, in order of importance and relevance. You might find some overlap among them.

As to what ROM to choose, I seriously like to push my own (eventual) ROM of choice, Mackay ROM (Unless gaming on the phone is your thing, which might bring up desires and demands that other ROMs serve even better.)
Good luck!
(And if this post was helpful, please hit THANKS. Thanks )
