UPDATE: The exploit script is now being made available. Check out the link for details. There is an interesting commentary from Dan Rosenberg, the individual who discovered it, at the following link (as well as a link to the script): http://vulnfactory.org/blog/2012/02/11/rooting-the-droid-4-a-failed-bounty-experiment/
I would suggest that if the reader decides to use his exploit that a donation be made; I intend to do so myself. His initial motives/approach have been questioned by much of the Android community, and for good reason. However, he did accomplish work that many of us will use, his approach notwithstanding.
==================================================================================================================
Android Police claim that the Droid 4 has been rooted and the methods are being held for a bounty. See article at: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-being-withheld-until-a-500-bounty-is-raised/
Widely known and respected security researcher Dan Rosenberg has evidently uncovered a root method for the Droid 4, in addition to a universal Motorola root method. Though the Droid 4's root access was discovered less than a day after its release, both exploits are being withheld until a $500 bounty is raised. I disagree, not all are, and Motorola is taking some nice steps now to ensure that. It took us a long time to root the Droid 3, and we only got root after Dan Rosenberg came in and found a nice exploit for us. I personally don't blame him for his initial motivation to withhold this exploit, the Android community isn't really entitled to root methods as soon as someone finds one. I personally think he deserved a little reward for not only finding root for you, but for all Motorola devices (which is helpful for us on the D3, as future OTAs will no longer be susceptible to our old exploit, but are to this one).

This is an amazing hack by Hashcode! He built a hack to load CM7 on the Droid 3 that will also work on the Droid Bionic! I tested it on the Droid Bionic today and it worked! (ya I am crazy)
Now you need to note that this is in the begining stages, but with us Devs teaming up, this can be great!
Thanks to Hashcode and of course Cyanogenmod team!

What is performance like (for both this current working version and the D3)?
What's currently broken in this one?
Just curious, I know this isn't a stable release. More wondering into the generals about it.
This is the excitement I've needed lately. I've been reading the hype on the galaxy nexus and razr which have been eclipsing our new bionics. I know that's just how it seems to me, in reality its the bootloader that its slowing the development and further excitement. Cyanogen was stellar on my OG Droid. Koush rules!

Definitely will be following this. Switched from reblurred to liberty, and when this becomes stable, which I'm sure will take no time at all, I'll flash this. But I thought there was a developer already working on a cm7 for the bionic? Has been for a while I think

I'm greatly appreciative of your comments mistawolfe. I was a victim of TDB with the X2 promises. After two months of waiting and very little progress on the X2 anywhere else, I gave up and threw in the towel. That was my lesson -- money wasted. I now own a Bionic and I can't be happier. And now, when I donate, it's to sites like MDW, Rootzwiki, DL and here. At least that way, I have a reasonable expectation that my money is going to good uses. I live for forums like these and I will do all that I can to help them thrive. I was just very touched and happy to hear that someone else identified with my pain. Thanks again.

I was already gone from my x2 when I stumbled across the Rootz thread. It's funny, Butch starts out all nice and open to the other members, then as soon as he gets the phone he changes tone. I'm in sales, so we call that the old "bait and switch" - By the end of it he was just downright nasty - probably crushed many people. I sat and read the whole thread one day and was just disgusted.
I'm not saying he should have given them a blow by blow on a daily basis, but if you read the thread from start to finish you'll see what I'm talking about. Absolutely no respect for that guy - ZILCH.

It's actually completely possible. The DInc got a full GB SDK port. The Nexus S has a ICS SDK port. The G2 (I believe by siulmagic) has an SDK port. It's just all those phones are unlocked completely. The 2nd-init used on Moto phones would be too hard and not worth the time for an only partly working port. With how close CM is, just wait for CM9 (CM8 would've been Honeycomb for all those about to ask "but i didn't c no cm 8 !?"). It will come. With time.
And is anybody working on a port for Jellybean or Key Lime Pie yet? How soon can we expect them?

A lot of us would hope to have a developer based option up and running by the time that might be released. The current estimated dates would be no earlier than the RAZR gets ICS, so we're still months away from any official release.

Why do people assume the Razr will get ICS before the Bionic does? Just because they said the Razr will get it doesn't mean it will get it before the Bionic. I'd say its safe to say that any device being released with gingerbread will be updated to ICS. My guess would be to look for it in late winter/early spring.

The future of Rom development is not looking too good for the Droid Bionic. According to the Eclipse forums it appears that nitro the main developer of Eclipse is selling his Droid Bionic. Eclipse 2.2 was the only Droid Bionic Rom that was build off of the 902 update. The stable Rom choices for the Droid Bionic appear to be limited. Gummy appears to be the only stable Rom (not alpha or beta) for the Bionic that is remaining in development.
Yeah this is what happenes when we got a locked bootloader. It chases people away Maybe well have more people jump on the bionic when or if we get ICS soon. all we can do is hope :S

You asked a yes or no question so I gave you a yes or no answer.
I recommend waiting for an official ics if you really want blur so badly.
Or just get an ics theme for your blur rom as you wait it out.

Some people use the xda app, which doesn't have a search button on top. I have barely used a computer to access xda in almost 6 months. On another note, finding things for the bionic is much harder than it is on many other devices. This is my first android which I had to use 4-5 different websites to find all the files I needed. With my previous phones, xda was the first place to look for something, but with the bionic, it seems like xda is the last place you want to check. With some files, it was easier to google bionic root than it was to find it on here.
I've always felt that the rooting community are the embasssadors for Android and unless we are actively developing, we should be more than willing to help others who are having problems. The more we can help them, the less they will have to bother the developers for help. While some questions are based on people being lazy, many of them are based on the user not knowing better. The bionic seems to have a lot of newer android owners which helps explain the repetition of questions. I suggest when offering help, also let the user know of the rules we go by when searching before asking.
The sooner someone can get their phone running nice, the sooner they can go show it off to their friends and help promote the growth of android. I know I used to impress my iPhone friends back when I was new with wifi tether. They couldn't get a signal and needed to use mine. A couple of those people are now on Android.

I agree with everything you said, OTHER then the search functionality. I as well only use the XDA app. But from the home screen if the app, if you click the upper right hand tabs that says "more" it has the search function there. Which would save reposts over and over in all phone forums. It is irritating to read through forums, looking for new things, and reading the same questions over and over.

Don't mind him. A lot of people have a superiority complex here on XDA and consider posting a single line of helpful information, with the rest meant to bash, as a good thing. Big reason to why quite a few devs left XDA. Though I find it annoying, it can't be helped. So simply ignoring it seems to be the only way to go as he'll try to justify everything he says. We lost a decent amount of devs over in the Atrix 4G section over people like that so it seems ATGAdmin is the first arse of the Atrix HD forums.

Keep ignoring people on xda and it'll just be you and only you on here. Dumb ass.
"Scroll for my answer" The title of the thread was about obtaining 4.1.1, not rooting 4.1.1.

Always read through threads we are so small of a community it only takes a few minutes to find an answer to simple questions. Also download the utility to flash back and order the adapter from team black hat to make your OEM micro USB turn into a factory data cable. Well worth the money.

We lost a decent amount of devs over in the Atrix 4G section over people like that so it seems ATGAdmin is the first arse of the Atrix HD forums.

agreed he is so annoying, and so rude. I'm waiting for someone to like ip ban him its possible. I'm just sick of him commenting on stuff that he has no business to, xda is for help and development (NOT FOR BEING A LITTLE B*TCH).
He was arguing on my thread and caused it to be closed.

Your thread was closed because you stole someone else's idea and posted it as your own. Read what the Moderator posted about it.
When you post the same exact question in five different threads, it's called SPAM!
If anyone needs to be banned, it's thieves like yourself.
