I want to dual boot ubuntu on my sgm but I do not have a kernel with loop device support. I had a friend from australia (who's number I have lost doh!), and he had an sgm with ubuntu running alongside android however I have no idea where he got his kernel from!
Any links folks?
Or perhaps a dev could compile one?? Pretty please! =)

Hey guys.
I know this is a question that probably belongs in Dev, but I don't have enough posts to create a thread there.
Has anyone ever tried daisy-chain booting the motorola milestone? Say, have the phone boot the proprietary Motorola kernel, which I'm pretty sure is what is checked by the hardware bootloader, and then have the motorola kernel boot up a CyanogenMod kernel? I'm pretty sure using one kernel to boot another is more or less possible with desktop linux kernels, why not on android kernels?
Excuse me if it's a bit of a dumb question..
It has been done but it is not working for 100%. According to droid-developers.org/wiki/2ndboot the GSM part won't work and the last commit at bitbucket.org/droiddev/2ndboot/overview is 8 months ago ...

Another hope to stay with salsa!!!
Sent from my HTC Salsa C510e using xda premium
should be interesting being as its based around cm7 lol...im gonna watch this
Well I contacted the dev of Sosa and told him for the support, the message was as
" Hi, my name is kunal, I have htc salsa ... ..as u may know we also have unlocked boot loaders, so we have developed odexed and deodexed roms from the Chinese and stock rom till now ......till now there are 20 roms I guess with 7 to 8 devs ..problem is we made roms from stock kernel and we don't know how to make custom one .....so we are in 2.3.3 and 2.3.5 versions ......we would like to support sosa and would like to bring the Sosa to salsa ...... As if salsa gets support, the x8 and chacha both will be supported, due to similarity ......we are trying to port cm7 but have not yet succeeded ...so it would be great if we get support from u all and make thousands happy!!!! Please reply as then I will inform other devs to contact u Thank you for ur time and support"
So he replied me back as,
" Supp dude! (Im kind of a casual talk kinda emailer just so you know in advance)! Thank you SOOO much for your SOSA support. Like Ive said to other people who have contacted me (and others I've contacted), SOSA will go towards ANY phone that can run a gingerbread Rom. If you want to, you can build CM7 from source (which is ten times easier than I thought, easier than porting IMO) the only prerequisite is that you need Ubuntu (I will give out links to some helpful tools at the end of this email). Please feel free to tell other devs to email me. I will not have a finished product as soon as I'd hoped simply because I cannot get in contact with my team at the moment. However, I understand that everyone has a life outside of development and so I do not fault them at all for this situation. I promise a product will come about as soon as possible. Lastly, if you know any other devs of other phones that are interested (my goal is to support 50 devices by the beginning of 2013, and support every 2.3 device by next summer. so we could support well over 100+ devices). Thank you for your interest
Helpful tools: 1. If you want to build cm from source you need the following (I will be using this tutorial very soon also)
A. Ubuntu 10.04 [http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/] (Do not use 12.04 because it doesn't currently support Sun Java 6 for some odd reason, I tried. Also, Cygwin is not the way to go either) -Make sure you have about 20 GB free for the Ubuntu, a typical GB build of CM will run about 6 to 10 GB of space, so just double it to be safe -Use this tutorial to build CM from source: http://www.adamwhiles.com/2012/03/15/how-to-build-cyanogenmod-from-source/
If you need any other help, I am here just for that! My email is ALLLWWAAYYSS connected to my phone so I promise unless I am swamped with something, I am fully contactable.
Thanks for the support man! "
So to all salsa devs, email him to support and for furthur steps to be taken .... Thank you

what is sosa anyway ?
Supreme os android means Sosa

Since nobody seems to check the Q&A forum [Q] Kernel compiled in Ubuntu 12.04 fails
So i havent worked on a kernel in a while and decided id start workin on one again. Well I recently updated to 12.04 lts and no changes to my old source I just did a test compile and it wont boot. Same toolchain, source, ramdisk, etc.
Is there some sort of issue with compiling on 12.04?
Even redownloaded the source from my github and tried the toolchain recommended by samsung, stock tool chain, and 3 others and i still get nuthin. Just trying to compile a 2.2 kernel for the vibrant. No source i download works am i missing something?
does ANYONE have any ideas? I dont care who you are just something! I been at this for a freakin week and cant figure it out, ......i've changed nuthing but the OS and i really dont want to have to redo my entire setup because it is such a huge pain
Are you sure the kernel works? What is causing it to not boot?
I build ICS kernels just fine.
Check this and update tools for 12.04 http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html

100% sure it works, its the same source as my old nightly# 3 kernel which i can flash and works fine. Its a 2.2 kernel so thatd be the main diff there, and I've already done the setup of the build environment. I dont get past the vibrant logo so i have no idea what the problem is >.< its driving me nuts
i tried the linaro TC, 2 diff code sourcery, google toolchain even, and no luck
I even started a fresh kernel from scratch and added just the EXT4/voodoo stuff and my ramdisk and still nuthin
so i remade my voodoo ramdisk and that still doesnt work.
I'm out of ideas, I've quadruple checked to make sure all my tools and erthing are installed......idk what the issue is
Not a developer but wouldn't downgrading to an older Ubuntu fix the problem? Btw I loved your gingerbread kernels and I hope you can get back to the top again Aim for 400mb ram with 720p and you will achieve something high

Id rather not but it seems that might be the case -_- I gotta look into how well older versions of ubuntu suppport the BullDozer cores before i do i guess.....
also I only made GB kernels for the NS4g i think ? o .o Vibrant I had been workin on it but I like being able to have MSAA in my games and what felt like greater stability, so i scrapt the new projects in favor of specific features i use :3
Ecotox I really wish you or another dev could make an updated CM7.2 kernel with Voodoo Color, OC/UV, and performance tweaks since Glitch is outdated and probably won't be updated for CM7.2. I know most devs have gone to ICS kernels, but CM 7.2 is still snappier and better for gaming then ICS.

I've been gone working on a game project, so I really haven't been doing much android stuff in months. If I get some time I might but can't make promises. Don't take this the wrong way but I'm looking for some help if anyone has any ideas not requests or compliments on previous work (though both are appreciated)

No but ty for the try....looks like imma have to revert back to 11.10...so let it be known for best results on compiling android use Ubuntu 11. If u have Ubuntu 12 and it works fine then leave it and good for u

Hey there! Try downgrading gcc and g++ to version 4.4. If that doesn't work you can always just set up a dev VM in xen or vmware instead of blowing away the whole box. Hope that helps.
Hello everyone. Is what may be the 3.0.x kernel for our galaxy mini?
And thank you for your answer.
No there is not.
Firstly there is no need of capital letters even if it is an important question for you..Anyway rohan(our cm10.1 developer) said that he will work on it as psyke got in booting on galaxy5 (and he still need to implement lots of things)..So maybe one day we'll have it..But don't expect anything in short times..
Hi Everyone !
I am a noob here and in the android kernel space too .
I have seen this USB-HID project here : https://github.com/pelya/android-keyboard-gadget and seen many kernels for the same, however there isn't any for lenovo k3 note and in general for any mediatek devices ( not sure about this one though ).
Coming to the point, I won't be asking this question if I knew exactly what to do here.
Although the github mentions how to compile custom kernel and I did see a few videos on how to create a custom kernel ( which were pretty good to say the least ).
However I don't understand which kernel source to choose and all that cause , in the github repo it gives an example for nexus device and then say that "change them for your device accordingly.".
So, for my lenovo k3 note what all do I have to change "accordingly" ?
Like in the first line it mentions
Code:
git clone https://android.googlesource.com/platform/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/arm-eabi-4.8
and then
Code:
git clone https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/tegra.git
So , how does it change for my device ?
I know that my device has octacore ARM processor, so arm thing should remain the same , right ?
What about the tegra thing, googling it finds me that its the nvidia processor but mine is mediatek, so that should change "accordingly" , but then again change to what ?
Sorry, for asking such noobish questions, I know there are great people out here with way better expertise than a noob like me and so am here.
I don't fear experimenting on my phone.
I did somewhat got stuck in a boot loop a few days back and got to use SP flasher to get it runninng again, I installed AOSP extended on my k3 device alongwith twrp.
I was trying to install nethunter and although it got installed but it's hid device wasn't showing up ( perhaps that needed the correct kernel to get it working ).
Thanks guys/gals.
Aniket
P.S. I am not someone who wants to get the work done from you guys, I am ready to get my hands dirty. Just guide me, how to proceed with that and I will comply
I'm in the same boat but with aLenovo P2
