Hi everyone,
Before I begin, I just want to say that I've searched for a clear answer (here and on some french forums), et and I really didn't understand anything... Since I bought my Note a few hours ago. I'm new to this.
I just don't get anything, with all the Odin and kernels stuffs...
So, let me explain my problem : I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Note that was previously simlocked (at SFR, I'm in France, and I'm with Orange), the seller said it was sim unlocked at a store (but hey, I don't know if it's true).
Thing is, the Note has a Custom Rom, and I'd really prefer a Stock one (I don't like JKay, I want OTA update etc..).
But :
1) I don't understand anything. CFW is installed, if that can help you... I don't know which Rom I should take, how to install it... I'm Lost.
2) Do I lose the sim unlock by reverting to a stock rom ? If so, how to keep the unlock ?
Since I'm a real newbe, I took a screenshot of the "About the Phone" section to give you more details. It's right here
Thanks to all of you, have a nice day =)
Daz.

Hello, my name is Esteban, I'm from Argentina and I'm new in the forum.
I'm going to buy in Rogers Canada the Samsung Captivate ( SHG-i896 )
I'm planning to Unlock it for using it in Argentina and I have 2 questions:
The easyest to answer: will the phone work here if I unlock it with Helroz app? (I've checked and the bands are the same, i mean, is something ELSE that could make my phone not to work here?)
and If so, the Captivate from Rogers Canada comes with 2.1 stock android... if I unlock it in 2.1 , and upgrate to 2.2 official or to a CRom, will it still be Unlocked? (I dunno how android works for networks permissions, i think it will still work, but i guess you could answer better).
I hope you can answer those ittems... if all goes as I want, in a month I'll have a Captivate in my hands.
Thanks. Esteban.
update 1:
PLEASE SPECIFY, if you manager to succefully unlock, wich tool did you use and where did you BUY the phone (Rogers, AT&T), tnx!
other thing: i need yo know where did you buy it in Rogers or AT&T (i mean, for your profile info) because i896 (Rogers) and i897 (AT&T) are EXACTLY the same, except when it comes to UNLOCKING.... the AT&T is easy.. but the Rogers one, is trickier. (and I would buy it in ROGERS) tnx!
From what I've read unlocking the captivate is very difficult, so make sure your research on the matter is extensive.
If you decide to get it, once you learn how to flash ROMs and such all of your other questions will be answered.
You can learn to do that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
I read (i cant paste links, i'm not at home, then i'll search in the visited links)
a lot of people could unlock it with success. (Rogers i896 version, not i897 from AT&T). I'll search and paste.. because they're recent posts (in this very forum).

says that he made it with this web

(the only one exaple i can find now)
Well I dont know much about that, hopefully someone else comes in here with more information.
unlock the network lock for cappy was pretty easy before, i am not sure the latest build changes that.
once you unlock it, it will NOT relock even if you upgrade your rom.
yup, I unlocked my phone by a software on Market SGS unlock tool or sth like that

I will buy it in Rogers.
Same question: did you buy it in Rogers?
I sure did. I unlocked it just to see if it would work, and it did.
EXCELENT! =D
what do you think? does it worth it to bring one here and be "sure" that , excepting a failure coming from me, it will work? =D when did u buy it (to see the stock and maybe new sub-models of crap like that xD) did it came with 2.1 outtof the box?
Well .. if anyone has something to add or tried to do so, please let me know becassue i'm going to give the confirmation to my aunt this week. thanks!
People.. I already have it xD . . . in 10 minutes I managed to unlock it.. it was easy. . .
mn... I installed Cognition 4.1.1 . . .and (even with stock rom) I noticed mn.. not poor.. but.. not that good batery usage... and GPS! I cant make it work =S. . .
In quadrant I get 1600 max... is it Ok? I saw people with 2000+ without OC . . .what do you think?
(can your recommend me any crom for performance.. without OC? I managed to esearch .. but there are a LOT of Roms... and they 're not THAT clear in features.. lagfixes, Gps fixes -i need that- etc... ... so.. if you know something, let me know xD
tnxs for previouss responses!
Hello,
Sorry for my bad English ^^
I search a ROM for the operator Proximus in Belgium. If someone know who find a official ROM ?
Thanks a lot,
Aireil
Are you looking for a ROM for a phone you bought from Proximus, or are you really looking for a ROM modified by Proximus? If so, I didn't even know they did that... I've certainly never bumped into one, I'd doubt providers would make them publicly available :/
However, if you're just looking for a ROM for a phone you bought from Proximus but is essentially just an i9000 (or variant) then just look in the development sections for a ROM that suits your needs. Usually the phone + SIM 'deals' in Belgium are just a regular phone plus a crappy service

Unfortunately, i search a ROM by Proximus. The operator have his own ROM, like Orange in France. And this ROM have some application for Proximus
Yuck
There's probably nothing you can find in that case. If you currently have their ROM on your phone and there's no update made available to you it's highly unlikely Proximus would ever do any effort to provide updates... Is there any specific reason why you are looking for this ROM if you already have it on your phone?
Ho no, i don't have it on my phone. I need it for an application Proximus include in the ROM ^^
How could you ever want... more bloatware?!
Anyway, I found a couple of things you may find interesting. Firstly, if you're lucky the application you're looking for may be available from Google play, Belgacom has a couple of apps on there => https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Belgacom
Also, I found a topic on another site (in French, but since you're from Belgium too that shouldn't be a problem), which is here http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/55453-rom-originale-proximus-belgique/, where somebody has pretty much the exact same problem. You could always try that
Thanks for you're help, i saw the post on FrAndroid before come here, but i can't run CheckFus. :crying:
Yes, it's this app but i need an official ROM for it's work ^^
Hello,
It's possible to put a "official" version on my Galaxy S and after Upgrade by Kies ?
Because for the moment, i can't upgrade with Kies.

Ok, so my question is what if I unlock my phone? Is it just the same as De-branding my Galaxy S?
I debranded my Galaxy S because it was branded by Tmobile. I wanted to get the latest android versions, so I had to do that. (Tmobile NL always comes with the phone updates after half a year if not a year)
So now my question is, is unlocking the bootloader the same as de-branding? When the 4.2 update comes I would love to have it and not wait 3 years.
Thank you for reading, hope someone can give me advice or tips!
Unlocking the bootloader does not de-brand your phone, nor does making it simlock free.
I have a simlock free Xperia Z with a unlocked boot loader and also use T-mobile, but the T-mobile bootsplash is still there.
Iam pretty sure there must be ways to remove the splash when unlocked, but just unlocking itself will not de-brand it.
Lets hope someone can tell us how to get rid of this.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Ah oke, that clears some up. Now i just have to find a way to de-brand it. I hate the Tmobile brand. Just because they are just so late with their updates.... I buy a new phone and want to keep up-to-date.... Not get out-dated
To get rid of the T-Mobile stuff you just need to flash an unbranded firmware to your phone. Check the forums for how to do all that.

That makes sense. Do you think it will slow down my phone or something like that? Or lower the battery life?
Iam kinda sure it will not slow down the phone.
However I will wait for 4.2 to release and will then flash a unbranded firmware.
If not to many bugs are reported in 4.2 that is, else I will stay on 4.1 a little longer and perhaps look for a way to de-brand it then.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Good point, else we can install and install every week all our apps. :| I already found a solution for me so I dont need to break any Boot loaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190936 Hope it works and that I can use a Stoch 4.2 firmware from sony then!
Hi All,
I've seen a second hand I8190N (S3 mini) for sale that's locked to a UK carrier. I'm wondering if I can just flash the firmware with the unbranded French firmware...
I8190NXXAMG1.LPMAMG2 ( I believe)
so I can use it with French carriers?
I've had a read and a lot of people obviously say use the one for your carrier for warranty purposes. I'm not bothered about warranty in this case.
I did read one post saying you can flash any ROM but the phone will remain SIM locked?
There's so much info out there I'm struggling to find an answer. Anyone know the answer or point me at it?

Just read all that. No one posted back to say it worked for their s3 mini. (7 pages of attempts though.)
Purchased Note 5 gold on eBay from US seller. Turns out the phone was from Taiwan. This before I knew about model numbers and I thought that the bands were all I needed to think about to make sure it would work in southern VT US with AT&T. Obviously, came to find out Samsung has regional model numbers.
I love the 9208 for many reasons: unlocked, no AT&T bloatware, and a few other things that just seem to make it a better phone. However, no Samsung Pay and I can't register the phone on Samsung in the US. I don't care about the registering, but I REALLY want Samsung Pay. So, my question....
1. Can I root the phone and get Samsung Pay? I read somewhere that rooting "kicks off Knox" which is apparently bad (I have no idea what that means). Does that mean that I can root and still can't get SP? Also, if I root, what do I lose and what do I gain?
2. Flashing roms. I used to do this in the old days, but spent a few mindless years with iphone (for my husband and daughter) so I am starting over and consider myself a noob. So, can I flash a rom to get SP? Do I flash, then root? Does flashing automatically mean I am rooted? Or do I root first, then flash, then do I get SP? Finally, what do I lose flashing and what do I gain?
3. Lastly, does anyone know if and when the Taiwan model 9208 will get SP from Samsung?
Sorry for all the questions - thought I would get it all in one post! Thanks so much for any help and advice. Oh, and before anyone lectures me for buying non-US model just to get a color or something, please refrain! I already know I should have realized Samsung had regional models - my stupid mistake!
Welcome to the club!
I got the Singapore 920i version 1 for the Gold and 2 for the 64gb !
In answer of your questions. ..
1. No. Root is incompatible with SP.
But I think Android pay can work with Dr. KETAN'S rom and his kernel
Haven't tried it out yet but at least it let me install. SP wouldn't even allow install.
2. Flashing as of now will help no effect on SP. But there are some Roms out there that improve battery life and have mods..I'm on the latest Dr. Ketan 4.1
3. Unknown.
As to if the version you bought will be compatible with your carrier you can check on http://www.willmyphonework.net/
Compare your model with the 920a for at&t
Oh and enjoy ?
