ICS backup problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem. Two day ago after restoring backup of my rom(cm9) i noticed that i haven't got status bar, wallpaper is all black and no "recent apps" when long press home button. Then i flashed fresh rom and it backed to normal. I though it was something wrong with backup. But today i made new backup because i wanted to try another ics rom. And after restoring i have the same problem :/ Any ideas how to fix it? All other apps are working.

Noob question on CWM backups

Hi all,
A question regarding backups:
I am currently on CM7 MIUI.US and am thinking of switching back to GB roms. If I do a backup on CWM now, and flashing stock GB + roms over, and if I so happen to not like the ROM and wishes to go back to MIUI, I can simply do a restore on my old backup is that correct?
Now backing up, do I need to do a factory reset? I am okay with cache + dalvik wipes, but factory resetting will reset all the customisation done on my MIUI rom and it is a nasty thing to do all over again (dragging and sorting all the apps into respective folders )
And I would have to use TiB to do all the restoration of my apps! and I would have to choose what apps to backup etc etc..
Thanks for any answers xda folks!
well you can maker a nandroid backup in CWM this is like an ISO image of the whole ROM, whether you will have issues restoring it on GB roms i dont know.
You could make a backup using the MIUI backup (which backs up settings and screen layouts and so on) but this would only be able to restore on MIUI ROM (if you decide to go back)
I would make a backup using MIUI, and make a backup using Ti Backup (if you have the paid version its all automated, No need to press DONE after each app has backed up)
Hope this helps.
EDIT: you could make a nandroid backup too, what the hell, if your flashing anyway, Im just not 100% sure it will work.
Yea i was asking if backing up nandroid will help when i want to revert.. But thanks for the heads up on the miui backup! And yeah I have tib pro so restoring isn't a pain, the tough part is the choosing of the apps to restore..

Well restoring a nandroid backup of a MIUI ROM and restoring it on a Different ROM MAY cause problems (ive never tried this)
Restore all your apps !! if you need to choose you obviously have too many and dont use them.
Delete the junk, Keep the good save yourself some space too !!
(im also an app collector lol)
There are those files from like 162939594 years ago that I use TiB to backup and never restored

[Q] X8 GDX backup and restore problem

Hello everyone.
So I have a pretty unique problem. I've been using GingerDX for quite some time (about 2-3 months) and i didnt get any big problems other than some lag, not that serious though.
Suddenly, my Wi-Fi stopped working, it would say it's on, but wouldn't actually connect or find any networks, so I decided to do a full wipe, didn't work, and then I reflashed the stock rom (2.1) to start all over again.
Of course I backed up all of my apps with Titanium, and I found the stock backup & restore app here in XDA.
After backing up and reflashing stock ROM, then GDX. I installed the backup & restore app with xrecovery.
Sadly, the app wouldn't recognize the .sbf file, but the older ones worked perfectly. Can anyone help me please?? I didn't have any other backups of my messages and bookmarks. Is there any way to extract that .sbf file? I've been searching for an hour and didn't find anything!!!
If you backup using TB you need use TB to recover data.
By default it is backing up only user apps+data (not system ones), so it |IS possible that you lose your bookmarks and messages
Yes, my apps are fully restored, what I'm worried about is the msgs and bookmarks, and it looks like I'm not going to be able to restore them :'(...

Challenging problem!

Hi all, i had a problem today. will explain in detail.
Background-
2 days back i flashed elol's ice cold sandwich AOKP 8.4.
»it was a little laggy and chrome was a real pain.
» so i followed the development section and as suggested flashed to CK's kernel .4d yesterday, but before that, did a nandroid backup, fortunately.
» also in the same topic it was suggested to remove 001-zram swap, so i did it.
»at the same time i installed titanium backup and lucky patcher and extracted old SMS from the old ROM (CM7.2) and restored it in this current ROM (ICS AOKP)
The Problem
I noticed that my DATA CONNECTION was neither working nor showing in the notification. I checked it in setting it was turned on, also wifi and call were working absolutely fine. reboot was not helpful.
So i restored from yesterday's backup and reflashed .4d kernel then deleted 001-zram swap again but this time data is working fine, only once it was gone but came back after reboot.
THE QUESTION
» What was the cause of the problem?
»its there any chance of recurrence of the problem?
»any suggestions for the improvement in manipulations i have done?

[Q] regarding back up & restore for contact

Hi All,
I've just flashed my Xperia TX to Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Before flashing, I've used the Back Up & Restore application in the phone to back u all my datas (contact+email+sms++call log+apps & games).
But after flashing is finished, I tried to restore all the data back using the Back Up & Restore once again.
But after it finished, I've found that several restored games can't be played. And all my contact + sms is not restored.
I've tried to restore it once again to no avail, although in the Back Up & Restore - Restore tab still shows that the back up do exist. (checked the .semc-fullbackup folder as well)
Is there any other way I can restore those information, especially the contacts and SMS? Because those contacts are fairly important for my job.
I didn't do back up to anywhere else, including to Google ( I know, I already regreted it)
Thanks for the help.
I faced the same problem. Luckily I backed up contacts in my Google account.
You could flash old ics ftf and restore contacts/messages. After that download contact and messages backup app from Google play. Backup and reflash JB ftf.
I know it will be annoying but if you want those content, you've to do it.
Seems the new backup & restore app has bugs.
Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Make sure you backup the content to memory card

restoring problems (Titanium Backup)

Could anyone explain all the steps of flashing a new rom because it will be my first time to play around with firmwares and i dont want to mess up my phone. I want to downgrade my xperia z because from the time on i upgraded to jelly bean 4.2.2 the Phone and Contacs icons disapeared and i think its because i backed up my phone on Titanium Backup two firmwares below 4.2.2 and then after upgrading two times it restored automaticly the backup from the Phone and Contact Apps and the new update doesent support these old versions...
Also the icon disappearing thing happened on my previous firmware ( before i upgraded to 4.2.2, so in my first updrage after the firmware i backed up ) always when i turned my phone off , but then i just restored it each time from Titanium Backup, with restore App+Data, and i justed wonderd why this is happening...now when i try to restore it from Titanium Backup it stucks in the loading process..
Do not restore system apps between different firmwares.
