I had been fairly lucky with the 4G/3G switching issue with my bionic. It happened occasionally but wasn't a big deal.
Got the 902 update yesterday afternoon. Almost immediately I lost all data. Tried airplane mode, reboot, pull the battery, take the sim out, boot without sim. Sometimes one or the other of these would bring back 4 G briefly. Today I lost all data at home and did all those things plus a factory reset and still did not have data. (I live in an area that is definitely in 4G)
So I drove to the Verizon store and tech support did all the things I told them I had already done and then he discovered I had no 3G. He tried all sorts of things to get 3G to turn on but it would not. 4G would turn on when he switched from cdma only to cdma/lte. I know I used to have 3G because when I would drop 4G i would see 3G in the notifications. So I have a new bionic on the way.
Has anyone else lost 3G after the 902 update? Anyway to get it back without getting a new phone?
Just a thought, but it seems something went wrong with the radio flash. I'd try reinstalling the .902 update (download it on the web).
I noticed the radio issues as well. Apearently not all handsets are affected. Motorola received feed back on this and say their looking into this...
Thier is something wrong with the idle settings affecting 3g/4g after the update.
If your push notifications are on then you probably won't have this issue.
At least that's what I've seen.

Yeah this happened to me. I lost all data. I thought I fried my Sim but after 4 hours at Verizon store and 3 Sims obviously that was not it.
I ended up flashing 893 system image, rooted and flashed a 902 update. It's finally back.

I regret that my first post here was asking for help rather than being a contribution but I'm stuck. I've been using my Hero since January, flashed a custom firmware day 2 (FreshROM) and it was fine back then, ever since though my connection, throughout the county, has been on a downhill slope...
Sprint customer service hasn't helped at all, got a single email reply and haven't been contacted since. I can't tell if it's an issue with Sprint or my phone though I'm starting to think it's the former, everyone I know with Sprint seems to be having problems lately...My particular problem is bad signal, I use to be pulling ~90dbm at all times, now I'm lucky to see a minimum of 98. Running speedtest (ookla) I can barely pull twice dialup speeds, though on occasion it runs ~120 kb/s (about normal out here, though pathetically below advertised speeds) and sometimes it just randomly drops into/sticks as 1x (even outside of the BestBuy I bought my phone from where I had full bars and definitely EvDo)
Currently running DarchDroid 2.7, PRL 60667 (I've tried all since 60663+), I don't know if it could be a PRI issue, I can't see PRI while using DarchDroid though I believe I'm running Flipz' custom PRI he put out after the leaked eris issues with 2.1 roms...
Suggestions? Further information I can provide?
Same problem here. Stuck in 1x, wireless also not connecting properly, voice signal minimal even sitting right next to my femtocell. Darch 2.7 only rom so far that keeps me on Sprint's network at all, others send me into roaming. I've tried Damagecontrol 2.0.9 (boot loops, kills SD), DamageR (roaming signal, frequent FC) Fresh 2.3.3 (roaming signal) and Aloysius 2.1.2 (roaming signal only)
Wireless not connecting with any of them. Any tips/fixes would be greatly appreciated

Forgot to mention, yes have also tried various basebands. Running the ancient stock seems to provide a minor boost.
I kept playing with this one, eventually broke the data connection altogether. Stuck in roaming unless using darchdroid. Took it to sprint store, they said once struck in roaming, no fix. They're replacing phone tomorrow

Thy the VZW PRL. It's here and in the EVO forum somewhere. I like it for my work and at the campground but here at home Im stuck with crappy signal because it wont work with the sprint airave. Im trying to talk my neighbor into buying a VZW one and putting it in my house. They don't have internet and use my WIFI so I think its a win win. For now I swap back to sprint on the weekends we are at home.
If you're using a custom rom, try rebooting into Recovery and wiping the Dalvik cache.
I had the same 'stuck in 1x' issue after trying to update my profile/PRL today, nothing I did seemed to make any difference, and when I did connect to EVDO my voice signal would drop out to, literally, 0.
Wiping the dalvik cache seems to have fixed it entirely - am now on the 60668 PRL (must've just come out today) and my signal is right where it should be, both EVDO and voice.

I've done entire wipes both factory resets as well as Davlik cache
I've tried both the verizon PRLs as well as the verizon baseband from flipz
I also managed to break my data connection at one point, eventually fixed it by driving out to where I had signal after doing the PRI reset thingy posted after the leaked Eris PRI issues. Tried the new *68 PRL as well when I finally had signal again, didn't seem to help at all, currently have no signal at my home at all anymore regardless of what I'm running, flashed back to an old FreshROM still on 1.5 so I can manually change PRLs, nothing seems to be working at all...
I'm likely to just run the new RUU to unroot and take the phone in demanding a fix, service seems to have just taken a hit out here period, weak connection at my gf's apartment, and she's now having issues even sending texts, seems like a network issue more than a phone issue at this point (she's using a Rumor Touch, not a Hero) also stuck on 1x (but amazingly not roaming) out here, but better than the no signal at my home :/
Help! I found this treadz by searching i bought the new iphone 4 and i have no signal when i hold the phonez.
I was hoping for a fix from apple and steve jobs said i was holding it wrong.
Thx any helpz would be awesomez
So I am already on my second Bionic after the first one stopped working (completely stock btw.) Just picked up the second one yesterday and have not been able to connect to 3G at all for the last 3 hours. I have done 5 battery pulls, toggled airplane mode more times than I can count, switched between CDMA only and LTE a handful of times and not even once has the 3g symbol appeared at the top. Just the phone signal and when I reboot it a triangle for a few second where the 3g symbol is supposed to be. Any ideas? If nothing else I am bringing this one back after work too and reverting to the D1 until something else comes out.
This appears to be a common problem with the Bionic. I am suffering from the same thing and getting ready to take mine back also, but I dont think it will fix anything.
Some on the forum have tried a fix outlined earlier on the forum that involves pulling your battery and SD card, then sliding your SIM card in and out repeatedly, which theoretically creates a better connection between the SIM card and phone. I have tried this and it did not work for me, but others have had success.
Verizon should extend the 14-day return period until after the supposed October/November patch is released.

Took my Bionic onto the local Verizon store, and the tech guy wanted to try a new SIM card and see if that worked, because I still have a week left of the 14 day period. I was willing to try it, because I have nothing else to loose.
So far, I haven't had any drops, but it has been only 4 hours. however, I would have experienced several by now, so hopefully it was fixed.
I find this odd because only the 4G is controlled by the SIM card, and you said you were having 3G issues?
In any case, my 3G drops sometimes, but a quick airplane mode ON, airplane mode OFF always works. I might take it in and say you had this help your case though, and see about getting mine looked at.

Well, the problem isn't fixed. It started shortly after I posted about the SIM card. This is getting frustrating.
I guess the next step is a new phone.
I'm having the same issue along with horrible data speeds for both 4G and 3G. My down speed for 3G is sometimes as low as 50kbps, and my down speed for 4G is 1.5mbps. That is also with apparently "full" signal strength.
The 14 day return/exchange policy is thursday for me so I'm thinking about going in and having them exchange it. I'll probably also point out the headphone issue since everyone seems to be having that one. There shouldn't be a problem right?
I got the official OTA yesterday and installed it. Ever since then, my phone can't hold a signal for more than a few minutes at a time. Not only does data go out, but so does voice! I get the little red circle on the signal bars. Only CDMA is enabled because 4g sucks the life from my phone. So I dont think it's a handoff issue between the 2. Wireless and bluetooth are also off.
The phone is completely stock, but with root. No debloat, mods, anything.
Same thing is happenning to my wife's Bionic and she is 100% stock, no root.
Anyone else having similar issues?
nothing like that here.
What did VZW tech support do?
No issues here either. I was one of the lucky ones and had very few issues before the update.

mine was doing that yesterday morning. i am rooted and had the latest leak version, still stock verizon build tho. i did battery pull and sim card pull. then i finally gave up and called verizon. while on hold, it started working again, and been good since.
VZW support said to power off and do a battery pull... even though I've done that several times.
I hardly had any issues with this phone before the update. Signal was usually fine. No BSOD, and a very rare random reboot... all issues that were supposedly fixed with the update.

I'll try the SIM card pull and see what happens. I'm also going to enable 4g and see if that helps.

I find it odd that tech support didn't recommend:
factory reset
address lookup to check towers/complaints etc of your location
check your provisioning
check your signal strength and prl version
etc
etc
I had few issues before the update, and my data is even better after it. I can hold 4G in places I would have it madly fluctuating before. I still leave it in CDMA only most of the time for battery, though.
You guys aren't having issues with 3g dropping with cdma forced after the update?
I try to force it to save battery but
It won't get a connection.. Turn on lte and it gets data right away..

Same as OP - reset to factory, permarooted, and installed OTA - data is MUCH worse than it was (and it was bad before).
Thankfully, I am still eligible for upgrade. This POS is going on Ebay and I am getting the Nexus tomorrow.
I have to agree. My data is horrible horrible. This was supposed to be my dream phone...... Data... cameras.....ota made camera bearable but data it grrrrrrr.

Maybe I am in the minority but my data issues seemed to have been resolved with this update. The camera is working better as well.
All items that were supposed to be fixed with the update seem to be, but now I've got this problem.....
Anyone have any idea what is going on here?
I was rooted with the Bionic Bootstrap Recovery app installed and working. Today, I just installed the new Verizon update because I was having the black screen problem as well as the no data signal problem (all the time).
Since the update, I lost root (I figured I would) so I re-rooted. Now I cannot update my SU and Bionic Bootstrap Recovery doesn't work as well as WiFi tether. WTF Verizon?
Any help is welcome. Thanks
Adam

I just upgraded and gave my Hero to my son who is on his dad's account. Before I had his dad call in the transfer I flashed the Hero back to stock. The transfer is completed but the phone only shows Ev. The phone had been rooted and flashed several, several times before and the img I used to go back to the stock ROM is one I used a few times to get my phone back to working order when flashes went poorly so I know the ROM is good. And it had 3G in this area when I was using it 2 weeks ago. I have tried profile updates, PRL updates, checking for firmware and software updates and nothing is getting that 3G going Unfortunately since it's not my account I can't call in to trouble shoot and his dad is about 3 hours away. Does anyone have any ideas?
Ev is 3G. 1x is 2G. His phone should be fine.

Oh wow...I feel so dumb now! Once I read that I remembered that "3G" didn't show on the stock ROM. I swear I'm not a blond LOL

Hello All,
Something changed in my phone and not really sure as to what has happened. All of a sudden my phone loses data connectivity and thinks that it is roaming. If I enable airplane mode and disable it, then the phone works for about 10-15 minutes and then loses connectivity again. Running the 12B baseband (been using it for months with no issue) and haven't changed the ROM in quite some time. This started happening on yesterday.
Any suggestions?
The 4G radio seems to have crapped out completely. Getting a replacement sent on tomorrow

Damnit. I am having the EXACT same problem, running CM11.
How did you come to that conclusion? I am thinking I'm going to have to restore to stock if I'm going to get Verizon to do anything about it.

I reverted all the way back to 11A stock unrooted. The phone was in 4G for about 5 minutes (if that) and then remained in 3G mode.

I'm at the same point. Going to do an Asurion claim since I didn't buy my phone from VZW (Swappa).
I had this problem before when I tried other roms like cm rom and omni rom. I tried to do *228 to fix problem, but made it made it worse. I restored it back to stock and took it to the Verizon store. They put a new sim card in it for free and it fixed the problem. Now i am running stock with simple kernel.
Same exact problem here. I was on the phone with Verizon last night. I was running cloudy pro 2 (all his roms for that matter as they are international roms) and kept getting the roaming issue you speak of...with 3g. I went back to 11A completely bone stock. Just like you mentioned, I get 4g but then after like 10 minutes I get 3g with roaming. Of course this is after I spent 30 minutes on the phone with tech support. They 'zapped' my sim card and it appeared to work but no dice. Now before doing all this I downloaded build prop editor and changed the ro.build.target_country to US versus COM as everyone suggested in all the forums, still no dice. I've tried the toggle airplane mode trick...works for like 5 minutes and back to 3g roaming. I think maybe a new sim card and avoid international roms...bummer because cloudys roms are blistering fast. Interesting thing though, I installed xdabebbs rom and malladus' rom, after already running cloudys roms, and get 3g but no roaming. I also verified that Verizon wasn't throttling me or something like that. One more thing I tried is reflashing the basebands and 24A modem, no dice. If there is a build prop fix or some other fix I'd love to hear it.
Edit: One think I'd like to mention. When I had an S4 I switched between stock roms and AOSP roms and the network settings were responsible for causing the roaming because the stock rom was an older build than the AOSP. So when I had roaming, I'd reflashed the AOSP rom, changed the settings then flash the stock rom. It worked great.
Edit#2: Ok making a little progress. Just did this:
Get a build.prop editor from the play store, and change ro.carrier to VZW and ro.build.target_operator to VZW and ro.build.target_country to US.
Initially it worked but when I make calls it gives me Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped and I cant make calls. I went into Settings, Apps, reset app preferences...that didn't fix it either.
4G/LTE is pretty solid now but again, I cant make calls.
Edit#3: Nevermind...roaming again.
Alright, I'd be lying if this makes any sense to me, but the issue appears to be related strictly to the SIM card.
I had them swap the SIM, it fixed the issue, then it came back. I'm on a new phone now, and it appears to be working. The old SIM did not work on either phone, but the new one does. What makes no sense is the old SIM would work fine in my Galaxy Nexus, but would not work in the G2. Now the new SIM is working perfectly in the new G2 (haven't tried the old one).
I'm baffled.
I've never seen anything make so little sense. The guy at the store told me I would need to replace the SIM again in a few days. Whatever, if it happens again, I'll do just that.
I did the same with my gs3. What ROM are you running?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
The original phone was running CM 11 Nightlies.
I'm currently on stock - not sure if I'm going to stay with CM because the official thread indicates official development is DitW for the G2 .
That's actually strange... I'd expect roaming issues with an Intl ROM but not cm.
