Hello guys,
with some of the latest firmwares (M2/especially M5) I'm experiencing a new bug - namely that the GPS simply turns off after 3 minutes of usage. I'm testing this with applications like Google Navigation or GPS Test and after a few minutes the GPS Symbol in the notification bar just disappears and the apps don't receive any position/data update.
Any ideas?
greetings
Alex
check your auto task killer
I didn't install any... I also tried to turn off almost every service running but the behaviour stays the same.
interestingly the app that uses the GPS stays open
Same happened to me. I couldn't solve it so a reflash seems to have done the trick. Can't be to sure since I haven't tested it that much so far.
I take that back. It's happening again and I can't understand why. Happens with all apps, NDrive, Navigon, GPS Status and GPS Test.
Did you find a solution?
darn...
first reflashing helped, but happens again now exactly as you describe...
It's very annoying because beside this GPS works quite well
Guys,
I know there have been many posts relating to WiFi and Sleep Mode (I've read them!) but regardless of what settings I use and whether or not I use an application like Wi-Fi Keep Alive, I still cannot keep wireless on when my screen is off.
I have tried starting the copy of a big file from my PC to my android wirelessly. Then when I turn off the screen, the file continues for about 15 seconds and then dies. I have also tried streaming music over the internet....again this works for 15secs after the screen has been turned off and then dies, only to reconnect when I turn the screen back on.
Can ANYONE help me with this. I have tried Wi-Fi Keep Alive, Wi-Fi Fixer, and the stock settings all with no success.
I have a stock 2.2 Nexus One.
EDIT: Just realised that this should be in the Q&A forum - apologies.
Please help me - I miss being able to stream net stations on the move!
Tried a non-stock ROM? There is a fix that should be in any recent AOSP ROM.
Thanks for the reply - I don't particularly want to flash a custom ROM. Is there any other fix for this issue that can be applied to the Stock ROM?
I've had this problem with every rom I've tried, its frustrating and it looks like there is no hope.
Ya I have this problem been annoying for stream with Pandora, its a hardware problem and nothing has worked for me. But I use screen on widget from the market to keep the screen on temporary until I don't need wifi, and also I use the stock clock app dim the screen even more than normal while streaming to waste less power on the screen. But there no way to fix it atleast for me.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I don't usually ask questions on xda but this problem is killing me. I am currently on JVO with FuguMod and have no issues with the phone itself aside from one problem that was occurring on stock prior to the application of FuguMod.
When i use any tracking app such as Endomondo or My Tracks, I can get the lock but seemingly a few seconds after the screen goes off, the app loses it's lock and my run stops getting tracked.
I've tried a few different settings, enabled roaming data, etc.... Even tried using apps like GPS Booster to attempt to keep the lock, but they all end up doing the same thing.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour or know of some magic setting to sort it out?
Not sure but I could have sworn GPS always turned off when screen switched off, even in 2.2 (stock).
You said you tried boosting software. I used to have Tracker booster running to keep GPS alive, doesn't that work anymore with GB? Don't know how reliable GPS Booster is, might just be the same.
No the GPS does not turn off when the screen locks. If it would all those apps like My Tracks or Cardio Trainer wouldn't work.
I can confirm I have no problems with My Tracks on JVO.
I got the ****s and completely wiped my phone and the sd card contents before reflashing stock,.will see if this sorts it out when the rain clears

I'm using CM7 on my Nexus One. The issue happened twice; right now the GPS is working fine but I'd like to find what can be done to diagnose this, or if there's anyone out there who already knows a fix...
Here's what it looks like:
I turn on the GPS, open GNavigation (or Waze, or Maps). GPS gets a fix but when I start driving, it doesn't update my location. After a while, it loses the fix, the reacquires it, still doesn't update it, loses fix again, and this keeps happening as 5-minute long loops.
Here's how it looks like in the GPS Status app:
It's as if GPS gets a fix, then hangs (my coordinate are not updated in GPS Status app) without giving any errors, then turns itself off and on, gets a fix again, rinse and repeat.
What I tried:
Reset and download A-GPS state. Reset dalvik cache using recovery. Reset A-GPS state, turn off GPS, turn off phone, turn on phone (and variations of this). Didn't work...
What worked:
Finally I got sick of it and took out my real GPS device. I didn't turn off nexus' navigation (wanted to torture it a bit out of spite and frustration).
After driving for 40 minutes (and nexus finding, losing, finding ... GPS fixes as I was driving), suddenly it got a fix, and it just started working again without problems.
Anyone know what's happening here and how to fix it? Thanks so much in advance
You are not alone
Rebooting almost always fixes it for me. Unfortunately it takes several minutes.
Airplane mode also instantly fixes it, but then you lose A-GPS and all communications.
Radio updating may fix the problem.
Try flashing a latest radio image.
Latest radio
Thanks. I guess a new, functioning radio would indeed solve the problem.
However, I already have the latest radio flashed: 32.50.0032U_5.12.00.08 for the Nexus One. Earlier radios have other heavy shortcomings, so they are not a good option.
i wold know if it was good be4
cuz it was worked fine but now ive same problem
i thought this problem form rom
but now i dont know the reson
sorry 4 broken eng
thx
I am waiting for ICS and hope that will fix it.
I have a Nexus 6, flashed with the 6.0 factory image.
I have my wifi set to always on (for tmobile calling). After then screen locks it shuts wifi off. This is great for my battery but bad for my staying connected. At work cell coverage is spotty and without wifi always on I can get 30min + delay in getting text/calls. This has caused a few problems with my boss thinking im off screwing around and ignoring him.
Anyone else notice this? or have a way to keep wifi always on.
My wifi randomly drops since I updated to 6.0. It is annoying. I am not sure if it is tied to the screen shutting off or not.
Yeah it's getting supper annoying. I'm at wits end with it. Might flash back to 5
Probably it is related to this bug: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=188909
When I turned off my WiFi, it was still running, showed in the battery history detail. It was OFF, so I expect it's also OFF there. But it's not OFF. Although today, I don't have that problem.
So please STAR that bug to get more attention.
Have you all tried HellsCore kernel with the "old" WiFi drivers that he built? Apparently it resolved issues for people.
Happen to have a link? Had hoped to stay stock for awhile but ATM its killing me.
