Can't mount SD card to computer - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Embarrassing problem - can't seem to mount the external SD card on computer! The card worked with my previous phone (the almighty Dell Streak), and it's recognised by the Note too, can write and read to it no problem on the phone
I've enabled USB Debug, and connected the USB to computer, two empty removable drives appear in My Computer, but nothing mounts! So I'm not able to transfer anything across.
Any suggestions?

Here's how its done:
1. Disable USB debugging
2. Plug cable into your Note, don't connect to your computer yet
3. Go to Settings/Wireless and Network/USB Utilities
4. Click 'Connect storage to PC'
5. Note will tell you to plug your cable into PC
6. Click 'Connect storage to PC' (Note)
7. PC will mount both your cards
8. You're done.

Thanks, different way of doing it than when I was on the Dell. =]
The computer still loads up both drives as "empty" ones though.

Your computer probably doesn't have proper Samsung drivers. Download them from here:

Thanks, that sorted it =]

I'm glad you got there in the end.

SD Card is not recognized..!!

Hello guys,,
as you see from the title, i dunno what happened to my X1i
i was connecting it through cable and chose the option to make it as usb memory device, restarted the pc and the phone is connected and after that computer is not recognizing the phone and also the phone itself not recognizing the SD Card, also i hard-reset the phone and did not work.
i tried the card in another phone (nokia) and it works fine
is anyone knows about this issue? thanks a lot
anyone?!?
thanks for all those who tried to help me in this post, i was expecting this much of help in this huge forum .. =D
Copy all your files off the card, format it on the phone, copy them all back
If the computer is not recognising the phone itself, try a USB port that has more power or use a double plug cable (like the ones which come with USB hard drives)

Problem with USB Mass Storage

Hi,
I bought mine Galaxy yesterday, and now i found a serious problem!
I have 8gb (SanDISK) memory card and when i connect the USB cable (the original one) to the phone and give "mount" on the screen nothing appears on the PC (the PC is with WinXP)...the mass storage is missing!
On the phone itself all seems OK, i can enter in the SDCard, see and install apk., etc..
I will appreciate some help! Thanks!
Try turning on USB debugging in the applications menu and rebooting. Worked for me.

[Q] Can't get windows to see my sd cards as drives

The two drives show up in My Computer but when I click both it tells me to insert a disk into the drive. I've tried turning usb debugging on and off and the phone is set to mass storage so I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm running windows vista 32 bit and 99% sure I have the drivers installed but I will reinstall once more to make sure.
After you connect to your computer as mass storage do you then click to connect USB on your phone?

[Q] How to eject phone mass storage safely in Linux?

I've had problem ejecting phone mass storage in Linux. That is when you connect the sd card of your phone to PC via mass storage, you should eject it safely before disconnecting it in the phone.
However, when I right clicked the drive and select "eject safely", it failed every time. So every time I just disconnect it on the phone then unplug the cable, and something in the phone will go wrong.

You can try running umount yourself in terminal
Code:
sudo umount <device name>
I don't have that problem on my Linux machine (Ubuntu 12.0.4). Are you sure theres no processes holding onto the device?

How to use OTG in TWRP?

I installed the latest TWRP in my phone, when I tried to backup my ROM I noticed there is an OTG option, I've an Y-Cable, so I formated my usb drive to fat32 and plug in together, I rebooted the recovery, however nothing works, can anybody know how can I make backup to external storage? Thanks!!
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Plug in otg device
3. Go to mounts and mount the otg device
4. Go to backup
5. Hit the bar below the check boxes that says internal storage
6. Change to Otg
7. Backup as usual

Hi Red,
Ive already tried your options. However the otg device was showing 0mb in the mount menu. I've already formatted to fat32. Which otg cable type are you using? Does our device need external power?
It works with my otg cable with an old 512mb thumb drive in it. It also works with my 32gb Micro USB thumb drive.
You may have to hit the refresh sizes button to see something other than 0mb

I changed my otg cable to the traditional one (not the Y-Cable), it's working now
However, there are some weird things happened on my usb drive, I have two Kingstone DataTraveler usb drive and both of them have 8GB space, same model same space, same fat32 format. Both of them can be recognized by my computer, however only one of them can be recognized by my phone.
Try plugging in while the phone is running and format with the phone
